Skyler was in fact 0:01:15.297 --> 0:01:18.097 tied to Alexander Hamilton. He was his father in law, 0:01:18.737 --> 0:01:20.577 was one of the more prominent men of New York 0:01:20.657 --> 0:01:24.617 during that time. He was instrumental during the Saratoga campaign 0:01:24.657 --> 0:01:26.937 of creating the defenses at that time, which is how 0:01:26.937 --> 0:01:29.737 he became so prominent as a general. And at one 0:01:29.737 --> 0:01:32.257 time he was very well thought of. He was a 0:01:32.297 --> 0:01:34.577 prominent member of New York. He was one of the 0:01:34.577 --> 0:01:38.577 big families. Being tied to Alexander Hamilton was something that 0:01:38.577 --> 0:01:41.617 the family was very much proud of. The state was 0:01:41.697 --> 0:01:45.577 very much proud of him. He's been a fairly uncontroversial 0:01:45.617 --> 0:01:50.737 figure and a pretty prominent one until quite recently when 0:01:50.777 --> 0:01:53.937 it was discovered that well, he owned a few slaves 0:01:54.017 --> 0:01:58.217 during his lifetime, so therefore all of his accomplishments are 0:01:58.577 --> 0:02:02.137 Nolan Voyd and his statue had to be removed from 0:02:02.177 --> 0:02:05.297 the front of the Albany State Capital because people may 0:02:05.337 --> 0:02:07.377 have been offended by the fact that he at one 0:02:07.417 --> 0:02:11.217 point had owned slaves. So his statue was dragged off 0:02:11.337 --> 0:02:12.697 kind of in the almost in the middle of the 0:02:12.777 --> 0:02:15.737 night by a truck. There was very little fan feather fair. 0:02:15.817 --> 0:02:18.537 There was very little public discussion about whether or not 0:02:18.617 --> 0:02:22.497 people were actually offended in the community. They simply removed 0:02:22.537 --> 0:02:25.217 the statue, got rid of it, done away with again. 0:02:25.257 --> 0:02:29.097 Of course, many of the arguments about taking down statues 0:02:29.137 --> 0:02:31.937 and figures of America's past revolved around whether or not 0:02:32.017 --> 0:02:34.777 they were confederates or something along those lines. He was 0:02:37.417 --> 0:02:40.377 tied to the American Revolution at one time, considered a 0:02:40.377 --> 0:02:44.057 great patriot that could be celebrated by all Americans. Now 0:02:44.097 --> 0:02:46.097 he's gone, and now he held no record of him 0:02:46.177 --> 0:02:48.537 or his statue in front of the state capitol. 0:02:50.097 --> 0:02:52.297 So I just need to understand what the rules are, 0:02:52.337 --> 0:02:57.137 because if being a figure from the Revolutionary War era 0:02:57.377 --> 0:03:03.057 in America and having any connection to slavery, having owned 0:03:03.497 --> 0:03:06.817 slaves at any number at any point in time, is 0:03:06.937 --> 0:03:10.217 enough to get your statue torn down, we got some 0:03:10.257 --> 0:03:12.857 problems with the founders, don't we, right, Like what happens 0:03:12.897 --> 0:03:17.377 to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, Yeah, what happens. 0:03:17.057 --> 0:03:20.897 To Washington, d C. What happens to Benjamin Franklin. I mean, yes, 0:03:20.937 --> 0:03:23.577 he did release his slaves at some point, but is 0:03:23.617 --> 0:03:25.657 that good enough? It doesn't seem to be good enough 0:03:26.097 --> 0:03:29.977 for those who want to destroy our past. That means we have to effectively 0:04:08.857 --> 0:04:12.657 erase our history, or some body somewhere will be offended 0:04:13.137 --> 0:04:16.417 and will decide that they may either officially try to 0:04:16.417 --> 0:04:18.417 take down a statue or remove a name, or they 0:04:18.417 --> 0:04:20.937 may do so with a mob, as we saw in 0:04:20.977 --> 0:04:24.497 twenty twenty, where we saw people actually go after figures 0:04:24.497 --> 0:04:26.457 in history and statues to try to take them down 0:04:26.497 --> 0:04:27.097 to themselves. 0:04:28.137 --> 0:04:33.817 It's remarkable, you know. There was a marker at the 0:04:41.097 --> 0:04:45.417 grave of Robert E. Lee Civil War Confederate general of 0:04:45.497 --> 0:04:49.577 his horse that was messed with. 0:04:49.657 --> 0:04:54.577 What happened here This is really quite remarkable. Traveler, his 0:04:54.697 --> 0:04:56.977 horse that was sort of famous during the war and 0:04:57.017 --> 0:04:59.897 after it was his favorite horse, was there at the 0:05:00.017 --> 0:05:05.577 Washington and Lee University. They buried his horse on the grounds. Recently, 0:05:05.617 --> 0:05:08.737 they decided that the plaque to this horse, you know, 0:05:08.817 --> 0:05:12.817 the racist horse, had to be removed because it referenced 0:05:12.817 --> 0:05:14.897 the fact that it was tied to Robert E. Lee, 0:05:15.097 --> 0:05:18.217 one of the men who was responsible for the existence 0:05:18.217 --> 0:05:21.377 of that college. He was the first president of Washington 0:05:21.417 --> 0:05:24.617 and Lee when it became a prominent university after the 0:05:24.657 --> 0:05:28.137 Civil War, he least served in a civilian capacity trying 0:05:28.177 --> 0:05:32.937 to rebuild the country after the terrible Civil War. Traveler 0:05:33.017 --> 0:05:35.977 was a well known horse. People came to put apples 0:05:36.017 --> 0:05:39.177 by the grave and was very much beloved. But as 0:05:39.177 --> 0:05:42.577 we've seen with the iconic class of our moment, that's 0:05:42.617 --> 0:05:44.657 not good enough. And it doesn't matter if it's simply 0:05:44.977 --> 0:05:49.657 a horse. This is some symbol of America's horrible, terrible 0:05:49.737 --> 0:05:53.137 past that needs to be taken down. So they actually 0:05:53.937 --> 0:05:56.377 cracked up the statue. They removed it and tore it 0:05:56.417 --> 0:06:00.017 out from its place that existed there in Washington Lee campus. 0:06:00.057 --> 0:06:03.657 And it's certainly something that should be asked, is how 0:06:03.737 --> 0:06:08.857 long the school of Washington and Lee will continue to 0:06:08.897 --> 0:06:11.097 exist with its name. What's this all about? 0:06:36.897 --> 0:06:41.017 I think they see the American project, the Constitution, the 0:06:41.057 --> 0:06:44.777 American people as a major impediment to their ideas and 0:06:44.857 --> 0:06:47.297 their plans. I think that that is what a large 0:06:47.337 --> 0:06:51.817 part of this is. America stands for many traditional values. 0:06:51.817 --> 0:06:55.497 It stands for limitation on government and limitation on power. 0:06:56.497 --> 0:07:00.537 It stands for many traditional ideas that they find repugnant, 0:07:00.537 --> 0:07:03.497 and so I think their aim is to, of course, 0:07:03.577 --> 0:07:07.257 want to associate America with all terrible things. When you go after 0:07:11.417 --> 0:07:14.457 American history, you say, oh, America has a legacy of 0:07:14.577 --> 0:07:17.777 racism and has a legacy of slavery. Well, the whole 0:07:17.777 --> 0:07:20.777 world has a legacy of racism and slavery. What has 0:07:20.817 --> 0:07:24.177 made America different, of course, is that there are criticisms 0:07:24.217 --> 0:07:27.217 of those things even from the beginning. Even from that founding, 0:07:27.617 --> 0:07:30.337 of course, we have things like the sixteen nineteen Project 0:07:30.337 --> 0:07:33.697 and other I think radical ideas that say that essentially, no, 0:07:33.977 --> 0:07:36.937 the entire point of the United States wasn't liberty, wasn't 0:07:36.977 --> 0:07:41.177 seventeen seventy six. It was slavery and tyranny, and therefore 0:07:41.977 --> 0:07:44.417 you should give us power. We're going to tear down 0:07:44.457 --> 0:07:46.457 all those good things that you thought were good, which 0:07:46.457 --> 0:07:49.057 were actually terrible. We're going to tear down those things 0:07:49.057 --> 0:07:51.377 and put something in its place. And I think that 0:07:51.377 --> 0:07:53.417 that is a large part of what this is. It's 0:07:53.497 --> 0:07:59.617 not a nerdy discussion about history or statues. It's about power. 0:07:59.817 --> 0:08:02.617 It's about power in our society, and it's about removing 0:08:03.417 --> 0:08:06.897 any symbol or notion of traditional ideas that I think 0:08:06.937 --> 0:08:09.297 built this country and have made this country great. He said 0:10:29.857 --> 0:10:32.297 a lot of things that were in fact outright. I 0:10:32.337 --> 0:10:37.017 think defensive of Joseph Stalin, the Soviet dictator. I think that she wants to 0:10:42.337 --> 0:10:45.057 lay this country low. Unfortunately, many of those institutions now 0:11:30.017 --> 0:11:34.297 work actively against it. I mean, you talk about Harvard 0:11:34.377 --> 0:11:36.537 or Yale or the Ivy leagues or any of the 0:11:36.577 --> 0:11:39.537 other elite institutions. They're no longer able to put up 0:11:39.537 --> 0:11:42.257 any kind of defense of what built this country, even 0:11:42.257 --> 0:11:45.257 built those institutions themselves. And so I think this is 0:11:45.297 --> 0:11:48.977 a lot about gaining power and power over you and 0:11:48.977 --> 0:11:52.857 me and just regular Americans across this country and reducing 0:11:52.937 --> 0:11:56.057 any kind of resistance, reducing i think the constitutional limits 0:11:56.097 --> 0:11:58.977 on power, and empowering them in society. And I think 0:11:58.977 --> 0:12:01.017 that's what a big part of this is. They have 0:12:01.177 --> 0:12:05.457 ideas of creating this revolution that's going to equalize things. 0:12:05.457 --> 0:12:08.937 Of course, they themselves will not actually surrender the power 0:12:08.977 --> 0:12:12.737 that they have. Why is it 0:12:29.377 --> 0:12:33.257 that these days we're being told that there's a problem 0:12:33.297 --> 0:12:36.697 with teaching honest history. That's what they'll say. And then 0:12:36.737 --> 0:12:38.937 you look at this and say, well, wait, how is 0:12:38.977 --> 0:12:42.857 critical race theory honest history If you're supposed to be 0:12:42.897 --> 0:12:46.097 talking about like the American Revolution or you know, other 0:12:46.177 --> 0:12:49.657 periods in history. It seems like there's an infusion of 0:12:49.737 --> 0:12:51.697 ideology that's going through all of this. 0:12:51.817 --> 0:12:56.057 Now, that's exactly what it is, that honest history line 0:12:56.057 --> 0:12:58.457 which continues to be used over and over again. It's 0:12:58.617 --> 0:13:01.457 quite remarkable given the fact that they themselves do not 0:13:01.537 --> 0:13:04.617 promote honest history when they're actually pressed to it. I mean, 0:13:04.657 --> 0:13:07.057 the sixteen nineteen project headed a number of flaws that 0:13:07.097 --> 0:13:10.617 they absolutely denied that even got criticism from which was 0:13:10.657 --> 0:13:13.617 funny from even some socialists criticized it because it was 0:13:14.337 --> 0:13:17.857 just bad history in general. So I think there's that 0:13:17.977 --> 0:13:19.897 element to it. I think what it really is it's 0:13:19.897 --> 0:13:22.817 about imposing an ideology on the American people. This really 0:13:22.897 --> 0:13:26.657 doesn't have anything to do with actual historical baits about 0:13:26.897 --> 0:13:29.337 the various peoples of the past and the arguments they 0:13:29.377 --> 0:13:32.537 had about structure of government. This is about power in 0:13:32.577 --> 0:13:36.257 the modern times. It's about imposing ideology on the American people, 0:13:36.417 --> 0:13:39.137 especially young people who don't maybe have a lot of 0:13:39.657 --> 0:13:43.457 knowledge about history anymore about civics, something that's very much 0:13:43.497 --> 0:13:46.297 been lost in this country, where they're willing to accept 0:13:46.337 --> 0:13:48.697 I think a lot of radical ideas because they don't 0:13:48.737 --> 0:13:50.817 know any better. They don't know much about the founding. 0:13:50.897 --> 0:13:53.097 They don't know much about the history of the country 0:13:53.257 --> 0:13:56.457 or the world around us. They haven't been taught to 0:13:56.537 --> 0:13:59.897 have that kind of informed patriotism that I think existed 0:13:59.897 --> 0:14:03.177 for previous generations. That's been lost in the newer ones, 0:14:03.217 --> 0:14:05.537 and it's made us quite susceptible to a lot of 0:14:05.617 --> 0:14:09.177 radical ideas that have nothing to do with history, have 0:14:09.217 --> 0:14:12.297 nothing to do with the truth, And I think this 0:14:12.377 --> 0:14:14.137 is really the problem of where we are. I think 0:14:14.137 --> 0:14:17.497 it's it's great to see states like Florida and hopefully 0:14:17.617 --> 0:14:21.817 many others finally battle back, especially on this issue of 0:14:21.937 --> 0:14:24.097 curriculum and what we're going to pass along to the 0:14:24.097 --> 0:14:25.577 next generations of Americans. 0:14:26.217 --> 0:14:28.377 Are you a country music guy, Jared? 0:14:30.777 --> 0:14:33.377 I do like some country music.
