You know, 0:07:04.360 --> 0:07:07.320 some of us, I think, in the greater society got 0:07:07.400 --> 0:07:11.200 lulled into a sense of homelessness being headed in the 0:07:11.280 --> 0:07:14.960 right direction, if you will, during the pandemic, But that 0:07:15.080 --> 0:07:18.800 was because jurisdictions like New York and others put eviction 0:07:18.920 --> 0:07:23.240 moratoriums in place that gave us a false sense of progress. 0:07:23.400 --> 0:07:27.560 So things are as, unfortunately, as bad as they have 0:07:27.760 --> 0:07:31.520 ever been. Why is that? A couple of reasons? One, 0:07:32.640 --> 0:07:35.920 what are the root causes of homelessness? I mean there's 0:07:35.920 --> 0:07:40.360 a few. One domestic violence, right, eighty percent of WINS 0:07:40.440 --> 0:07:44.680 moms are survivors of domestic violence. We as a society 0:07:44.760 --> 0:07:49.120 have yet to take INTI mid partner violence as seriously 0:07:49.240 --> 0:07:51.920 as we should, and have yet to come up with 0:07:52.080 --> 0:07:56.400 real strategies to deter it from happening and to really 0:07:56.440 --> 0:08:01.400 help those who are the survivors. Move on to people 0:08:01.440 --> 0:08:05.880 getting evicted. Fifty two percent of WINS moms are working, 0:08:06.240 --> 0:08:08.720 but they can't pay the rent. So you can put 0:08:08.760 --> 0:08:11.680 out whatever job numbers you want, whoever the president is, 0:08:11.680 --> 0:08:13.920 and I'm happy that the recent ones are good for 0:08:14.000 --> 0:08:17.720 President Biden, but that doesn't really address those who are 0:08:17.800 --> 0:08:23.960 living if they're lucky on minimum wage. No electric leader a real 0:09:11.240 --> 0:09:15.960 significance has said I'm gonna end the crisis of homelessness. And that is who is homeless in New York.
