Back en Bridge, 0:09:11.080 --> 0:09:14.280 a Canadian oil giant, started the process of applying to 0:09:14.320 --> 0:09:18.880 replace their existing Line three pipeline with a new, bigger pipeline, 0:09:19.280 --> 0:09:22.079 large portions of which are along a completely new route, 0:09:22.120 --> 0:09:24.680 including areas that would violate the treaty rights of the 0:09:24.720 --> 0:09:30.640 indigenous Oshawanabe by passing through tribal territory, fresh water sources, ecosystems, 0:09:30.840 --> 0:09:35.000 and public lands, while endangering primary areas of hunting, fishing, 0:09:35.240 --> 0:09:38.640 wild rice, and cultural resources in the eighteen fifty five 0:09:38.720 --> 0:09:42.120 treaty territory. For most of the past seven years, the 0:09:42.160 --> 0:09:44.880 plans for the pipeline going through Minnesota have been caught 0:09:44.960 --> 0:09:48.360 up in litigation and regulatory hearings. There have been on 0:09:48.400 --> 0:09:51.080 the ground direct actions and protests, but all in hopes 0:09:51.120 --> 0:09:55.240 of preventing the construction from starting. That changed November of 0:09:55.280 --> 0:09:59.800 twenty when the Minnesota Pollution and Control Agency issued water 0:10:00.000 --> 0:10:03.439 crossing permits in mid November, and then the Army Corps 0:10:03.480 --> 0:10:07.079 of Engineers issued the other necessary permits mere days later. 0:10:07.960 --> 0:10:11.000 Embridge had been positioning pipes and equipment for years doing 0:10:11.040 --> 0:10:14.200 so called pre construction, so as soon as they got 0:10:14.200 --> 0:10:16.880 the go ahead they could rush to dig, drill and 0:10:16.920 --> 0:10:20.320 start placing pipes in the ground. M Bridge has a 0:11:59.760 --> 0:12:03.240 job promise that the Line three replacement project would create 0:12:03.280 --> 0:12:06.920 about eight thousand and six hundred jobs, the majority of 0:12:06.920 --> 0:12:10.280 which are local in Minnesota over a two year period, 0:12:10.400 --> 0:12:13.840 including forty hundred union construction jobs, half of which are 0:12:13.840 --> 0:12:17.840 expected to be filled locally. However, instead of seventy of 0:12:17.960 --> 0:12:21.720 jobs being local, the opposite is true, with nearly scent 0:12:21.840 --> 0:12:25.080 of hours being worked by out of state workers. In 0:12:25.120 --> 0:12:28.120 Minnesota alone, the new Line three pipe would cross more 0:12:28.160 --> 0:12:31.880 than two hundred water ecosystems and tunnel under twenty rivers, 0:12:31.920 --> 0:12:36.240 including the Mississippi River twice, the source of drinking water 0:12:36.320 --> 0:12:39.280 for millions of people. The new Line three would threaten 0:12:39.360 --> 0:12:43.480 many pristine lakes, rivers, and streams, including where wild rice grows, 0:12:43.600 --> 0:12:47.080 a foundation of the Oshanabes people's traditional way of life 0:12:47.240 --> 0:12:51.320 and spiritual practices. Since the announcement that construction could begin 0:12:51.440 --> 0:12:54.880 last November, and Bridge has been literally working non stop 0:12:54.960 --> 0:12:58.680 to finish this pipeline as soon as possible.
