The FBI also got involved in the investigation. For a while, it seemed 0:09:01.560 --> 0:09:05.361 true that, as Sheriff Wayne Mcalvin said, there were no witnesses, 0:09:06.160 --> 0:09:08.641 but it turned out there was someone who knew something, 0:09:09.121 --> 0:09:11.921 a woman who stopped by at around eleven forty five 0:09:11.961 --> 0:09:15.321 pm to get some gas. They talked to this witness, 0:09:15.481 --> 0:09:19.081 Virginia Johnson, about a week after the murders. She said 0:09:19.121 --> 0:09:21.521 that she got to Kk's just as Stacey was closing 0:09:21.521 --> 0:09:24.241 the door, but Stacy led her into the store so 0:09:24.321 --> 0:09:28.041 she could get her gas. Virginia came in and paid 0:09:28.041 --> 0:09:31.160 ten dollars for the gas. They said they 0:11:01.921 --> 0:11:03.881 were looking for the man in the drawing, who was 0:11:03.921 --> 0:11:06.761 seen in Kk's Corner with a second man at around 0:11:06.801 --> 0:11:10.201 eleven to fifty pm on July fifth. At the time, 0:11:10.481 --> 0:11:12.601 police said the man they were looking for was around 0:11:12.681 --> 0:11:16.321 six feet tall and in his twenties or thirties. They said that he was a 0:11:32.961 --> 0:11:36.561 dead ringer for twenty seven year old Richard mcalvin, the 0:11:36.681 --> 0:11:43.441 son of the Calcashu Parish Sheriff Wayne mccelvin. After the 0:11:43.761 --> 0:11:46.841 poset drawing was released, people in town were calling police 0:11:46.881 --> 0:11:50.121 and telling law enforcement that that drawing looked a lot 0:11:50.280 --> 0:11:53.321 like Richard mcalvin, the twenty seven year old son of 0:11:53.361 --> 0:11:56.841 the sheriff, Wayne mclvin. And this was not the first 0:11:56.881 --> 0:12:00.081 time that Richard Mcalvin's name had been mentioned by people 0:12:00.081 --> 0:12:04.281 in town as potentially connected to a possible homicide. Richard 0:12:04.321 --> 0:12:07.521 Mcalvin has never been arrested or charged in connection with 0:12:07.561 --> 0:12:10.800 these murders. In fact, as we'll get into, according to 0:12:10.841 --> 0:12:14.521 local law enforcement, he has been cleared. I'm mentioning this 0:12:14.561 --> 0:12:17.041 because we're trying to understand the series of events that 0:12:17.121 --> 0:12:20.160 led to his name coming into the picture, and because 0:12:20.201 --> 0:12:24.241 many people, including members of Stacy Ruf's family, still believe 0:12:24.441 --> 0:12:28.561 Richard was somehow involved. Back in nineteen 0:12:33.401 --> 0:12:36.321 ninety one, there was another infamous double homicide in the area, 0:12:36.961 --> 0:12:42.521 known locally as the Ellender murders. On Marty Grass February twelfth, 0:12:42.601 --> 0:12:46.161 nineteen ninety one, in soul For, Louisiana, also in Calcashue Parish, 0:12:46.280 --> 0:12:49.321 right down the road from kk's corner. The bodies of 0:12:49.401 --> 0:12:52.281 twenty seven year old Eric Ellender and his wife, twenty 0:12:52.280 --> 0:12:54.601 five year old Pam Ellender were found in their home. 0:12:55.401 --> 0:12:57.721 Pam was a stay at home mom. Eric was an 0:12:57.761 --> 0:13:01.081 insurance adjuster. Eric worked at his father in law, Huey 0:13:01.081 --> 0:13:04.041 Littlden's business. The couple had been shot to death in 0:13:04.121 --> 0:13:07.041 their bed with a sowd off shotgun, one that police 0:13:07.161 --> 0:13:10.241 later said belonged to Eric. Their eighteen month old daughter 0:13:10.321 --> 0:13:14.041 was found in the home unharmed. Pam and Eric's Toyota 0:13:14.121 --> 0:13:17.521 four Runner had been stolen. Police found the stolen car 0:13:17.561 --> 0:13:22.280 the next day. Four young men, Chris Prudom, Robert Adkins, 0:13:22.321 --> 0:13:24.921 Philip Ladeux and Kurt Reese, had been seen in the 0:13:24.921 --> 0:13:29.681 car riding around Baton Rouge. Chris Prudom later confessed that 0:13:29.721 --> 0:13:32.481 he had committed the murders alone. He was charged with 0:13:32.521 --> 0:13:35.961 the killings, but there was a strange series of events 0:13:36.001 --> 0:13:40.201 following this case. Seventeen days later, Chris took his own 0:13:40.241 --> 0:13:42.641 life by hanging himself in the shower stall of the 0:13:42.681 --> 0:13:46.841 Calcashue Parish Jay. Rumors spread that other people had been 0:13:46.841 --> 0:13:51.280 involved in the murders, though that was never proven. Pam's father, 0:13:51.521 --> 0:13:55.641 Huey Littlden, believed that Chris did not act alone. He 0:13:55.761 --> 0:14:00.320 spent years with private investigators, conducting hundreds of interviews. Eventually 0:14:00.801 --> 0:14:02.921 he came to believe that Chris was a member of 0:14:02.961 --> 0:14:08.201 a group called Skater. He believed that there was a party 0:14:14.561 --> 0:14:17.441 inside the house after the couple was murdered, and that 0:14:17.521 --> 0:14:21.521 Pam and Eric's dead bodies had been sexually molested. It's worth mentioning these murders happened 0:14:28.601 --> 0:14:30.441 right at the height of the Satanic Panic era. 0:14:31.001 --> 0:14:32.921 Back in the eighties and nineties. 0:14:33.001 --> 0:14:36.401 There were a lot of allegations making news, things like 0:14:36.521 --> 0:14:40.321 ritual sacrifice. A lot of instances were happening around the US, 0:14:40.441 --> 0:14:43.921 and they were all later found to be unsubstantiated. But 0:14:44.281 --> 0:14:47.281 I'm old enough to remember the media hysteria around cases 0:14:47.321 --> 0:14:50.481 like the West Memphis three in Arkansas and the Martin 0:14:50.561 --> 0:14:54.241 Preschool trial in Los Angeles, California. Some of the stories 0:14:54.241 --> 0:14:57.761 that people told were pretty out there, but there were 0:14:57.881 --> 0:15:00.881 a lot of hard facts that Huey Littlden gathered that 0:15:01.001 --> 0:15:03.441 did seem to indicate that there was more than one 0:15:03.481 --> 0:15:05.761 person at least present on the day of these murders, 0:15:06.281 --> 0:15:08.121 and Huey Littleton got results. 0:15:08.441 --> 0:15:10.161 I'm not sure if I've ever heard of this. 0:15:10.201 --> 0:15:14.121 Happening, but police agreed to let Huey Littlden present his 0:15:14.161 --> 0:15:17.481 evidence to the grand jury. He found out that Robert 0:15:17.561 --> 0:15:19.761 Adkins had told a friend that he was there during 0:15:19.801 --> 0:15:22.841 the murders and that Chris didn't actually kill the islanders. 0:15:23.681 --> 0:15:26.121 There was also another woman, someone who said that she 0:15:26.281 --> 0:15:28.761 was there and helped with the murders. There were actually 0:15:28.841 --> 0:15:31.081 murder charges filed against her at one point, but the 0:15:31.161 --> 0:15:35.601 charges were later dropped. One of the people who some 0:15:35.641 --> 0:15:38.681 people mentioned as being at the home was Richard Mcalvin, 0:15:39.201 --> 0:15:42.961 and Hughey Lyttleton believed that this lead wasn't pursued because 0:15:43.081 --> 0:15:46.041 Richard was the sh a son. This is something Sheriff 0:15:46.081 --> 0:15:53.161 Wayne Mcalvin always completely denied. In the end, Robert Adkins 0:15:53.161 --> 0:15:55.121 pled guilty to two counts of manslaughter. 0:15:55.281 --> 0:15:56.001 He got probation. 0:15:56.481 --> 0:15:59.601 Philip Leadeux and Kurt Reese pled guilty to being an 0:15:59.601 --> 0:16:02.681 accessory after the fact. Richard Mcalvin was never connected in any 0:16:10.801 --> 0:16:14.761 way with these murders, but according to the book Murdering 0:16:14.801 --> 0:16:18.121 the Bayeux, the rumors about Richard Mcalvin being seen at 0:16:18.121 --> 0:16:22.921 the Ellanders and not properly investigated, refused to die. And 0:16:22.961 --> 0:16:26.641 then after kk's Corner, the rumors started up again, and 0:16:26.761 --> 0:16:32.201 again some people believed Richard was involved. Some of Stacy's 0:16:32.241 --> 0:16:35.121 family members believed that kk's Corner was not just a 0:16:35.201 --> 0:16:39.041 robbery gone wrong.
