Yeah, 0:05:50.920 --> 0:05:54.159 there's actually, uh, here are the arguments that Apple puts 0:05:54.200 --> 0:05:57.799 forth as to why you should not jail break your phone. 0:05:59.120 --> 0:06:01.599 Argument number one that you pointed out that the app 0:06:01.680 --> 0:06:04.320 store already has thousands of apps in it which have 0:06:04.760 --> 0:06:10.200 passed presumably have passed Apple quality control, so they are 0:06:10.240 --> 0:06:12.120 going to do what they're supposed to do and they're 0:06:12.160 --> 0:06:14.080 safe to use, so you don't have to worry about 0:06:14.120 --> 0:06:17.279 it screwing up your phone. That's argument number one is safety. 0:06:17.839 --> 0:06:22.159 Argument number two is uh not you know that the 0:06:22.160 --> 0:06:25.440 the experience is going to It's not none of the 0:06:25.480 --> 0:06:26.920 apps that you're going to get in the Apple Store 0:06:26.960 --> 0:06:30.320 going to affect the other apps you have. Yes, so if you were to try 0:06:51.200 --> 0:06:54.680 and circumnavigate this whole UH system that Apples put in 0:06:54.720 --> 0:06:57.320 place that restricts you to the apps in the iTunes store, 0:06:57.720 --> 0:07:00.800 you violated your warranty. And if something goes Apple is 0:07:00.800 --> 0:07:06.359 not obligated to help you. So, uh, that's another issue 0:07:06.400 --> 0:07:09.600 that's putting the fear into the user. But section twelve oh one A one, 0:07:46.400 --> 0:07:51.239 Title seventeen of the United States Code on Copyright now says, 0:07:51.280 --> 0:07:56.040 and this this is a direct quote, persons making noninfringing 0:07:56.200 --> 0:07:58.920 uses of the following six classes of works will not 0:07:59.000 --> 0:08:03.239 be subject to the prohibition against circumventing access controls until 0:08:03.280 --> 0:08:06.920 the conclusion of the next rulemaking. And then it lists 0:08:06.960 --> 0:08:11.120 the six different classes. The second class is computer programs 0:08:11.120 --> 0:08:14.800 that enable wireless telephone handsets to execute software applications where 0:08:14.800 --> 0:08:18.640 circumvention is accomplished for the sole purpose of enabling interoperability 0:08:18.640 --> 0:08:22.120 of such applications. When they have been lawfully obtained with 0:08:22.160 --> 0:08:25.440 computer programs on the telephone handset, which is a long 0:08:25.480 --> 0:08:29.040 way of saying, if you if you create a software 0:08:29.120 --> 0:08:33.560 program that allows you to break this this restriction on 0:08:33.679 --> 0:08:37.520 a handset device, that's okay. It is not violating copyright. 0:08:38.120 --> 0:08:39.520 There is a word in there that I would like 0:08:39.559 --> 0:08:43.120 to point out, what's that lawful? Um. Once they 0:13:33.040 --> 0:13:35.360 find a way of doing that, they create a program 0:13:35.400 --> 0:13:39.680 that again kind of creates this shortcut for you, and then, uh, 0:13:39.800 --> 0:13:41.679 what will happen is Apple will take a look at 0:13:41.880 --> 0:13:45.240 and see that people have found workarounds, and then when 0:13:45.280 --> 0:13:48.880 they start updating the OS, they will patch those holes, 0:13:49.640 --> 0:13:51.920 which means that you start all over again. The hacker 0:13:51.960 --> 0:13:55.560 has to find a new route to accomplish the same thing. 0:13:55.920 --> 0:13:58.400 And you've got dozens of different people working on this 0:13:58.559 --> 0:14:01.559 independently of each other. So there are many, many, many 0:14:01.760 --> 0:14:05.920 versions of jailbreaking software out there, written by different people 0:14:06.240 --> 0:14:09.560 for the various operating systems. And I'll by the way, 0:14:09.600 --> 0:14:13.480 if you do jail break your phone, one of the downsides, um, 0:14:13.559 --> 0:14:17.120 because we some of the stuff. Apple says, it's absolutely true, right, 0:14:17.320 --> 0:14:22.520 like you could download an app that's harmful to your phone. Theoretically, yes, 0:14:22.600 --> 0:14:25.240 I mean there are two different viruses that have come 0:14:25.280 --> 0:14:27.880 out for the that that we're designed for the iPhone, 0:14:28.200 --> 0:14:30.160 but would only affect your phone if you had a 0:14:30.240 --> 0:14:35.040 jailbroken iPhone, so you could get a virus. But another downside is that when 0:14:53.720 --> 0:14:58.040 Apple updates its operating system, you're left out. If you've 0:14:58.040 --> 0:15:01.800 decided to jail break your your device, be haus you can't. 0:15:01.920 --> 0:15:05.560 If you update your your OS, it's going to UM, 0:15:05.600 --> 0:15:09.040 it's going to remove the jailbreak feature on your phone, 0:15:09.120 --> 0:15:11.640 or it's going to break it one of the two.
