I believe he might be 0:04:31.080 --> 0:04:38.240 of Middle Eastern descent something like that, and he is 0:04:38.279 --> 0:04:43.480 a person who's very passionate about the way people are treated. 0:04:44.480 --> 0:04:47.400 I wouldn't profess to know his religious background, but he 0:04:47.480 --> 0:04:50.240 is a brother to my people and so far as 0:04:50.240 --> 0:04:52.840 I can tell, and a brother to all people. And so his standard practice is his 0:05:06.720 --> 0:05:12.160 modus operandi is to tell a story on Instagram. He's 0:05:12.160 --> 0:05:14.520 got the video and everything like that. So he's filming 0:05:14.560 --> 0:05:18.320 himself and he's, you know, recalling a story that has 0:05:18.320 --> 0:05:22.000 taken place in the media. An individual was going about 0:05:22.000 --> 0:05:25.200 their business, they had an interaction with the police, they 0:05:25.279 --> 0:05:27.720 ended up dead or beat up or whatever, blah blah blah. 0:05:27.920 --> 0:05:34.960 And he exposes the many ways that police abuse their power. 0:05:36.560 --> 0:05:44.920 He exposes the many ways that human beings suffer at 0:05:44.920 --> 0:05:51.400 the hands of police, and often enough explains why it's 0:05:51.480 --> 0:05:55.520 unnecessary for there to be human citizen suffering, you know, 0:05:55.839 --> 0:05:57.800 the people that are supposed to protect and ser often 0:05:57.880 --> 0:06:07.080 hurting the citizens. And he points out things that are 0:06:07.600 --> 0:06:12.080 certainly necessary, and then ask the question, how do you 0:06:12.160 --> 0:06:14.919 reform this? And I think a lot of times his 0:06:15.040 --> 0:06:18.599 point is, or rather what he's trying to suggest, is 0:06:18.640 --> 0:06:22.039 that we need to really rethink it, not continue to 0:06:22.080 --> 0:06:25.279 revise it. We can't train these things away. This isn't 0:06:25.960 --> 0:06:28.640 this isn't an isolated incident or a few bad apples. 0:06:28.680 --> 0:06:31.880 There's so many bad apples. Granted, there's so many more 0:06:31.880 --> 0:06:35.200 police officers that I'm sure do you find work. And so reform, in his opinion, based 0:07:05.720 --> 0:07:12.280 on the videos that he makes, is something that is 0:07:12.440 --> 0:07:17.640 not necessarily the best way to go about dealing with this. 0:07:19.280 --> 0:07:24.960 Hence the question, how do you reform this? How 0:07:55.600 --> 0:07:59.400 is it that in twenty twenty three, in late January 0:07:59.400 --> 0:08:04.120 twenty twenty three, the things that we were pushing back 0:08:04.120 --> 0:08:08.280 against in the sixties with the civil rights movement and 0:08:08.360 --> 0:08:11.080 in the seventies with the Panthers, and in the eighties 0:08:11.160 --> 0:08:14.360 when we were you know, getting behind Jesse Jackson and 0:08:14.520 --> 0:08:17.080 was run for president, and we were trying to push back, 0:08:17.560 --> 0:08:19.800 you know, as a community against the scourge of crack, 0:08:19.960 --> 0:08:24.240 and you know, these these myths and these these these 0:08:24.720 --> 0:08:29.080 lies and rumors about how we treated our our families 0:08:29.120 --> 0:08:31.200 and that we abandoned our families as black men, or 0:08:31.200 --> 0:08:33.160 that we were all gang bangers and all this sort 0:08:33.160 --> 0:08:36.680 of stuff, and then on and on until now, you know, 0:08:36.840 --> 0:08:39.840 with the Trayvon Martin's birthing, the Black Lives Matter movement, 0:08:39.840 --> 0:08:41.960 all the way up to twenty twenty, with George Floyd 0:08:41.960 --> 0:08:43.880 and Breonna Taylor, all the way up to now, these 0:08:43.880 --> 0:08:46.400 things are still happening, and every single step of the 0:08:46.400 --> 0:08:49.720 way there's always been reformed. There's always been oversight, there's 0:08:49.760 --> 0:08:52.520 always all these things. We've already had these conversations, We've 0:08:52.520 --> 0:08:55.280 already tried these things, and they've been again. They've had 0:08:55.320 --> 0:08:57.920 their time in the sun for years. So now when 0:08:57.960 --> 0:09:00.720 we tell these stories, our question is how do we 0:09:00.760 --> 0:09:06.160 reform this? And I think that the idea here is 0:09:06.200 --> 0:09:08.800 not to like radicalize anyone or anything like that. You know, 0:09:08.840 --> 0:09:10.200 of course, we have our own beliefs. We do our 0:09:10.240 --> 0:09:13.120 best not to try to impose them, but to just 0:09:13.200 --> 0:09:18.920 highlight them, you know, shed light on our beliefs. We do believe that 0:09:22.280 --> 0:09:24.680 police reform is kind of a tall order, it doesn't work, 0:09:25.880 --> 0:09:30.000 and that we need to rethink what it means to 0:09:30.040 --> 0:09:33.760 be safe in a community, what that means and how 0:09:33.800 --> 0:09:37.000 that looks. And does that mean that the police departments 0:09:37.040 --> 0:09:39.720 need tanks or does that mean that we need to 0:09:39.760 --> 0:09:45.920 invest that tank money into programs that again, prevent the 0:09:45.920 --> 0:09:47.800 necessity of crime in the first place. If people have 0:09:47.920 --> 0:09:50.520 enough money, then they're not stealing. If people have children 0:09:50.559 --> 0:09:53.439 have after school programs or you know, programs to keep 0:09:53.480 --> 0:09:57.280 them engaged and you know, to help them excel in school, 0:09:57.480 --> 0:10:01.920 aren't they less likely to be caught up in juvenile 0:10:02.000 --> 0:10:06.480 delinquency and so forth? These things that make sense, but 0:10:06.760 --> 0:10:10.040 they never make it past these talking points where folks 0:10:10.120 --> 0:10:14.120 who do choose to humor us by engaging in this 0:10:14.200 --> 0:10:17.560 conversation say the same thing, We need police reform. An 0:10:30.440 --> 0:10:34.480 Ohio police sergeant has been placed on administrative leave after 0:10:34.559 --> 0:10:38.679 he was caught on video punching a black woman following 0:10:38.679 --> 0:10:45.040 a dispute over cheese at a local McDonald's. The incident 0:10:45.120 --> 0:10:48.440 unfolded on Monday, which would have been January sixteenth at 0:10:48.440 --> 0:10:53.000 the time, when Butler Township, Ohio police officers responded to 0:10:53.000 --> 0:10:56.120 a report of a woman yelling at employees over an 0:10:56.240 --> 0:11:00.280 order mistake at the fast food chain. She's mad a 0:11:00.320 --> 0:11:03.640 thirty cent piece of cheese. A McDonald's employee called nine 0:11:03.720 --> 0:11:09.480 one one dispatchers, per records obtained by Kiro seven News, 0:11:10.320 --> 0:11:17.400 which is also the source of this content. Hero body 0:11:17.400 --> 0:11:22.720 camera footage shows the woman, identified as Latinka Hancock, waiting 0:11:22.760 --> 0:11:26.120 in her car when Sergeant Todd Stanley and Officer Tim 0:11:26.200 --> 0:11:29.520 Zelders arrived at the scene. When Stanley directed her to 0:11:29.559 --> 0:11:33.640 fill out a notice for trespassing, she refused. In the footage, 0:11:33.760 --> 0:11:37.840 Hancock can be seen speaking with police before the encounter 0:11:37.920 --> 0:11:42.760 became physical, as officers said she resisted arrest. Zeller's was 0:11:42.840 --> 0:11:46.160 caught on body camera footage pointing his taser at Hancock, 0:11:46.480 --> 0:11:48.680 and Stanley punched the woman in the face three times 0:11:48.720 --> 0:11:51.760 before pressing her against a police cruiser and putting her 0:11:52.480 --> 0:11:57.360 handcuffs on bystander. Video also captured the violent arrest, sparking 0:11:57.440 --> 0:12:02.240 outrage among the community. Okay, so this is what is 0:12:02.280 --> 0:12:04.920 in the news. And when the officer presented the 0:12:30.160 --> 0:12:33.480 you know, the paperwork. Notice how it says a confrontation 0:12:34.080 --> 0:12:38.679 or what is it? The encounter became physical, as officers said, 0:12:38.720 --> 0:12:43.560 she resisted arresting, and that comes from uh the what 0:12:43.720 --> 0:12:46.120 is k i R O seven news and then was 0:12:46.160 --> 0:12:49.440 reported by b I in news. But this is the 0:12:49.520 --> 0:12:54.040 way police often describe incidents. And then they released the 0:12:54.280 --> 0:12:58.720 report to news news stations like kr R O seven 0:12:58.800 --> 0:13:03.440 News and then they just copy paste. So the encounter 0:13:03.520 --> 0:13:08.440 became physical implies that both parties were at fault. But 0:13:08.679 --> 0:13:11.120 I'm here to tell you that there was only one 0:13:11.160 --> 0:13:15.040 individual that made the encounter physical. Granted she didn't want 0:13:15.080 --> 0:13:18.080 to sign the paperwork, that's fine. There are many people, 0:13:18.480 --> 0:13:21.839 often white, they get pulled over and they say, hey, buddy, 0:13:21.880 --> 0:13:24.400 I'm not going to sign that ticket. I did nothing wrong. 0:13:24.800 --> 0:13:26.840 You're gonna take that ticket and shut whatever. You know, 0:13:27.040 --> 0:13:29.640 you get it right, I'm not picking on anybody. These 0:13:29.640 --> 0:13:31.160 are things that I've seen in my own life. I'm 0:13:31.160 --> 0:13:33.640 sure that you understand this, right. You know, 0:14:35.640 --> 0:14:41.280 these stories are quite commonplace, sadly, but he was I 0:14:41.320 --> 0:14:45.239 think he was handcuffed on the ground and the officers 0:14:45.240 --> 0:14:47.840 were like punching and kicking him when he was handcuffed. 0:14:48.600 --> 0:14:51.280 And because of the angle of the video, the officers 0:14:51.320 --> 0:14:54.040 came out with the story saying, oh, well, the guy's 0:14:54.200 --> 0:14:57.160 hands behind his back as he was handcuffed, the guy 0:14:57.320 --> 0:15:01.960 grabbed my genitalia and then that gave me license to 0:15:02.200 --> 0:15:04.960 like beat them up, right, which, of course, if you 0:15:05.000 --> 0:15:07.160 watch the video you don't believe that's true.
