And in doing that, you know, I mean, 0:01:11.817 --> 0:01:14.297 we've got to be real about how we end abortion. 0:01:14.417 --> 0:01:17.217 That includes getting involved in the political realm, and so 0:01:17.297 --> 0:01:21.257 I've been very outspoken against the Democrat Party. They've actually been trying 0:01:30.657 --> 0:01:34.457 to limit my work for the last twenty years, and 0:01:34.777 --> 0:01:37.057 it's been one excuse after another. You know, you try 0:01:37.057 --> 0:01:39.737 to you try to follow what they're asking you to do, 0:01:39.777 --> 0:01:43.137 and then they're always changing the goalposts. Basically. Then in 0:01:43.177 --> 0:01:44.777 the end of it, at the end of last year, 0:01:45.297 --> 0:01:48.337 some of these church leaders that oppose our were convinced 0:01:48.337 --> 0:01:52.497 Poke Francis. They actually dismissed me from the priesthood, and 0:01:52.617 --> 0:01:56.177 many even cardinals within the church are like outrage at this. 0:01:56.217 --> 0:01:58.297 They're saying, you know, we do this for priests that 0:01:58.337 --> 0:02:01.217 have committed terrible crimes, not for somebody who you know, 0:02:01.657 --> 0:02:04.417 we don't like his message, and nothing in the message 0:02:04.457 --> 0:02:07.137 was contrary to Catholic faith. They just don't like the politics. 0:02:07.177 --> 0:02:08.497 But that's what I was gonna say, is that's what 0:02:08.657 --> 0:02:10.857 I've heard of priests being kicked out for terrible things. 0:02:10.857 --> 0:02:14.577 You said. They all said everything was in order. So 0:03:07.297 --> 0:03:11.257 they couldn't find anything along those lines. So then they 0:03:11.337 --> 0:03:13.937 kept saying, oh, you're not being obedient, you know, to 0:03:13.977 --> 0:03:16.897 your bishop, and well, you know I have been. And 0:03:17.537 --> 0:03:20.617 the fact of the matter is that, you know, for 0:03:20.657 --> 0:03:23.337 the longest time the bishop I was under said that 0:03:23.417 --> 0:03:26.457 I didn't have any assignment. Now I had my full 0:03:26.457 --> 0:03:28.337 time role with priests for life, like I still do. 0:03:28.577 --> 0:03:31.777 So I had work that I was doing, but he said, oh, 0:03:31.777 --> 0:03:33.497 you don't have an assignment. So you can't have it 0:03:33.537 --> 0:03:35.857 both ways. You can't say, well, you didn't obey your bishop. 0:03:35.937 --> 0:03:38.217 In the meantime, the bishop is not telling you anything 0:03:38.217 --> 0:03:40.817 that you need to do. And I 0:04:22.617 --> 0:04:26.377 gladly said yes. They didn't like that, they didn't like 0:04:26.457 --> 0:04:29.737 me being publicly identified with the Trump campaign. And what 0:04:29.857 --> 0:04:33.577 I explained to them, and you know how these things work, 0:04:33.617 --> 0:04:36.937 I said, listen, I'm a priest on an advisory campaign. 0:04:37.017 --> 0:04:41.417 We're doing prayer calls for election volunteers across the country. 0:04:41.417 --> 0:04:43.737 They get on the phone and they asked me to 0:04:43.857 --> 0:04:48.257 lead them in the rosary. The feast of the Easter 0:04:48.377 --> 0:04:50.297 comes along, and they asked me to gig. We're going 0:04:50.337 --> 0:04:52.697 to get the election volunteers on the phone while Easter 0:04:53.257 --> 0:04:55.937 draws near, draw give us some reflections about Easter and 0:04:55.977 --> 0:04:58.097 that you know how that inspires our work to make 0:04:58.137 --> 0:05:00.257 a better nation. And I would do that. And I said, 0:05:00.257 --> 0:05:02.777 I'm doing priestly thing, I'm leading prayer. What in the 0:05:02.817 --> 0:05:05.577 world is the problem? And the problem really, of course, 0:05:05.777 --> 0:05:09.257 is that they have again it emphasized, this is just 0:05:09.377 --> 0:05:12.937 a handful. This is a minority of church leaders that 0:05:12.977 --> 0:05:15.857 have had a problem with with my work. But that 0:05:16.057 --> 0:05:17.697 was it. They said, oh no, no, you can't be 0:05:17.977 --> 0:05:21.137 associated with the Trump campaign. So, you know, I said 0:05:21.137 --> 0:05:23.297 to the campaign, hey, listen, I you know I want 0:05:23.337 --> 0:05:25.937 to I'm going to continue helping the campaign. I also 0:05:26.017 --> 0:05:28.057 want to be a faithful priest. I can't have an 0:05:28.057 --> 0:05:32.097 official title on this board. And so they were very 0:05:32.217 --> 0:05:36.017 very cooperative, of course, very very gracious and understanding about it. 0:05:36.217 --> 0:05:38.777 And then the Vatican was very very happy, you know 0:05:38.857 --> 0:05:42.297 that I no longer had an official role with the campaign, 0:05:42.537 --> 0:05:44.297 But then they were mad at me again a few 0:05:44.297 --> 0:05:46.897 months later. Why because I continued to speak out in 0:05:46.937 --> 0:05:49.377 favor of President Trump and his policies. So it's like 0:05:49.417 --> 0:05:51.017 I said to them, a why can't you be honest 0:05:51.057 --> 0:05:53.817 from the beginning. It's not about having an official title 0:05:53.897 --> 0:05:56.937 or anything about candid law. I'm not gonna lie I'm not 0:06:21.377 --> 0:06:23.897 the best Catholic as an adult, meaning you know, I 0:06:23.897 --> 0:06:25.737 haven't been at practicing the faith the way I should. 0:06:25.737 --> 0:06:27.737 But put that aside for a second, doesn't matter for 0:06:27.817 --> 0:06:29.937 my question, just just you know, being honest with everybody 0:06:29.977 --> 0:06:35.297 out there. How is it that there seems to be 0:06:35.377 --> 0:06:41.097 an allegiance between the Catholic hierarchy politically and the ideology 0:06:41.377 --> 0:06:44.617 of the Democrat party, which is the party of uh 0:06:44.657 --> 0:06:48.177 celebrating abortion for all nine months of a pregnancy. UH, 0:06:48.217 --> 0:06:51.657 the party of you know, transgender surgery not just for 0:06:51.737 --> 0:06:55.737 adults but for children. The party that is even more 0:06:56.497 --> 0:07:01.097 you know, strongly attached to UH, gay marriage and the 0:07:01.217 --> 0:07:03.777 l g B, t q I A plus issues of 0:07:03.817 --> 0:07:08.217 the day. How is the Catholic Church aligned with all 0:07:08.257 --> 0:07:08.457 of that? 0:07:09.737 --> 0:07:13.257 Yeah, well that is really the big question because the 0:07:13.297 --> 0:07:15.497 party the way it is now certainly is not the 0:07:15.537 --> 0:07:19.697 party that our grandparents knew, and that that maybe some 0:07:19.777 --> 0:07:22.217 of these bishops knew when they were young or and 0:07:22.297 --> 0:07:26.577 their family said, oh, we're Democrats. But but there's also 0:07:26.697 --> 0:07:29.217 a lot of financial connection. You know, a lot of 0:07:29.257 --> 0:07:32.777 these Democrat politicians, some of it in an effort just 0:07:32.777 --> 0:07:36.857 to politically align themselves with the Catholic vote. Will will 0:07:36.977 --> 0:07:41.297 fund major and good projects that the bishops are trying 0:07:41.297 --> 0:07:44.097 to do in the social services arena. And I think 0:07:44.177 --> 0:07:48.057 that some of the dynamic here is that these bishops 0:07:48.057 --> 0:07:52.417 don't want to offend their friends or alienate their benefactors 0:07:52.817 --> 0:07:55.897 by bringing up, you know, emphasizing too much the abortion issue, 0:07:55.937 --> 0:07:58.337 because you know, that's the arena obviously where I was 0:07:58.577 --> 0:08:01.657 being critical of of them, you know, by name and 0:08:01.897 --> 0:08:06.697 administrations obviously, like the Obama and and and now Biden administrations. 0:08:07.017 --> 0:08:09.297 So I think some of it is that, you know, 0:08:09.377 --> 0:08:11.257 we don't want to have our friend, you'll, maybe they're 0:08:11.257 --> 0:08:13.537 not going to help us with these social programs anymore 0:08:13.577 --> 0:08:17.137 if we if we embarrass them over the abortion issue. 0:08:17.417 --> 0:08:20.377 And you know, aside from that, I mean, I I 0:08:20.977 --> 0:08:24.777 don't know. I can't imagine that these these these bishops 0:08:24.777 --> 0:08:27.897 are completely ignorant of the way that the party has 0:08:28.737 --> 0:08:33.057 aligned itself, uh, not just contrary, but in a direct 0:08:33.337 --> 0:08:36.897 assault on the things we believe in terms of life, 0:08:36.937 --> 0:08:41.617 religious freedom, human sexuality, the family. I mean, these teachings 0:08:41.617 --> 0:08:44.097 are are completely emphathetical. 0:08:43.897 --> 0:08:47.617 All of the all of the deeply anti Christian animus 0:08:47.617 --> 0:08:50.057 in politics and law in this country comes from the 0:08:50.057 --> 0:08:51.457 Democrat Party in the left. 0:08:51.657 --> 0:08:51.857 Yep. 0:08:52.137 --> 0:08:56.337 And yet yep, and yet Catholics, by large measure will 0:08:56.377 --> 0:08:59.217 still vote Democrat in national elections. Put that aside for 0:08:59.217 --> 0:09:04.017 a second. The Catholic hierarchy itself seems to be like 0:09:04.057 --> 0:09:06.257 a bunch of woke Marxists, and I sit around that. 0:09:06.297 --> 0:09:09.137 I'm like, right, I'm like, what are you guys doing? 0:09:10.177 --> 0:09:12.417 Noah, that's exactly right. And this is one of the 0:09:12.417 --> 0:09:14.617 things I've been I've been objecting to. And you know, 0:09:14.657 --> 0:09:16.697 they'll put out their voter guides and they'll say in 0:09:16.777 --> 0:09:19.017 those guides, oh, yes, you know, we have to protect 0:09:19.017 --> 0:09:21.217 the unborn. But then they'll make it look like all 0:09:21.257 --> 0:09:23.577 the other issues are of equal importance, which of course 0:09:23.577 --> 0:09:27.017 they're not, Like no logical standard can can can they 0:09:27.057 --> 0:09:31.097 be of equal importance? I mean, economic issues are important, 0:09:31.097 --> 0:09:33.697 but you know you can't boil down you know, what 0:09:33.777 --> 0:09:37.137 should be the minimum wage, for example, or or what 0:09:37.217 --> 0:09:40.697 trade agreement should we support and put that on the 0:09:40.737 --> 0:09:42.657 same level of should we be able to kill a baby? 0:09:43.417 --> 0:09:46.537 And yet their voter guides leave the voters with the 0:09:46.577 --> 0:09:50.457 impression that it's just an arithmetic calculation. Let me see 0:09:50.457 --> 0:09:53.177 how many issues this this candidate lines up with about 0:09:53.177 --> 0:09:56.057 the Catholic faith and how many or she doesn't. It's 0:09:56.097 --> 0:10:00.177 not arithmetic, it's geometric. In other words, the right to 0:10:00.217 --> 0:10:02.817 life is the foundation of every issue. Why is an 0:10:02.817 --> 0:10:04.777 issue an issue at all if it doesn't impact human 0:10:04.817 --> 0:10:07.617 life and you know we serve the poor? Why because 0:10:07.617 --> 0:10:09.777 they have a right to life. Unemployment is important issue 0:10:09.817 --> 0:10:13.337 because because there's a right to life. Stopping terrorism is important. 0:10:13.497 --> 0:10:16.537 Economic issues are important why because they impact human life, 0:10:16.577 --> 0:10:19.697 so that life is the foundation. I mean, it's just it's the good thing 0:12:53.017 --> 0:12:55.617 is this. Look, we know that the faith, whether we're 0:12:55.617 --> 0:12:58.257 talking about the Catholic faith or the Christian faith more broadly, 0:12:59.337 --> 0:13:01.897 is not a matter of secrecy. You know, it has 0:13:01.977 --> 0:13:04.817 been open wide. God has revealed to the whole world 0:13:05.017 --> 0:13:08.497 what his word says. Everybody's got the access to the Bible, 0:13:08.777 --> 0:13:11.577 you know, the Catechism. You're a Catholic. There's no teaching 0:13:11.617 --> 0:13:13.857 that the Pope or the bishops have that the rest 0:13:13.897 --> 0:13:17.057 of us don't have. And it's understandable and it's clear 0:13:17.377 --> 0:13:21.457 so at certain times in history, if somebody's pastor if 0:13:21.457 --> 0:13:24.817 somebody's bishop, or even if a pope starts saying and 0:13:24.897 --> 0:13:28.977 doing things that contradict what the Church has always taught 0:13:29.897 --> 0:13:32.857 that the saving factor here is that the faithful are 0:13:32.937 --> 0:13:36.897 able to discern that difference overall, I mean under certain 0:13:36.897 --> 0:13:40.417 individuals will be confused, of course, especially if they're not 0:13:40.457 --> 0:13:43.617 tied into the church, and that's where the damage gets done. 0:13:43.777 --> 0:13:46.977 But we sometimes have to pick up the slack, the 0:13:47.017 --> 0:13:50.017 people in the pews, the laity, the parents teaching their children, 0:13:50.537 --> 0:13:53.257 folks that are, you know, spreading the word on social 0:13:53.337 --> 0:13:55.737 media or whichever way they can spread it. We've got 0:13:55.737 --> 0:13:58.977 to sometimes pick up the flack, the slack and get 0:13:59.017 --> 0:14:00.937 the true faith out there. And I think we're in 0:14:01.497 --> 0:14:03.417 we're in one of those phases of history right now. 0:14:03.617 --> 0:14:05.297 Do you think a Catholic Church is in trouble in 0:14:05.337 --> 0:14:06.137 America right now? 0:14:07.537 --> 0:14:12.897 Very much so, in trouble for going down in history 0:14:13.737 --> 0:14:17.537 as cowardly. That to me is the biggest issue. You know, 0:14:17.737 --> 0:14:21.377 in the Catholic Church, we honor in Uh we honor 0:14:21.737 --> 0:14:25.057 Saint Maximilian Kolbe, and people usually know the story. He 0:14:25.137 --> 0:14:26.697 was a priest, he was in the death camp, he 0:14:26.737 --> 0:14:30.337 exchanged his life for that of another prisoner who was 0:14:30.377 --> 0:14:34.137 a father of a family. Okay, So, but what people 0:14:34.257 --> 0:14:36.057 miss about that story is why he was in the 0:14:36.137 --> 0:14:38.537 death camp in the first place, and that was because 0:14:38.617 --> 0:14:43.057 as a priest, he was broadcasting and publishing from his 0:14:43.257 --> 0:14:49.457 monastery against the Nazi Party for its anti life, anti 0:14:49.617 --> 0:14:54.777 freedom positions. And now they punish priests wh or doing that. Meanwhile, 0:14:54.777 --> 0:14:57.737 they canonize this guy, and it's like we're forgetting a 0:14:57.777 --> 0:15:00.177 big part of the story. And it's a lesson to 0:15:00.217 --> 0:15:03.617 the American church about courage.
