This term was coined by a conspiracy theorist 0:01:10.160 --> 0:01:15.800 named Alan Watt, different from the like pop Zen writer 0:01:15.959 --> 0:01:19.920 Alan Watts. Different guy. There's a one letter difference. I'm 0:01:20.480 --> 0:01:24.280 sure they share some amount of audience crossover, but they 0:01:24.280 --> 0:01:27.160 are different people. He kind of coined this concept around 0:01:27.200 --> 0:01:30.000 the early two thousands. From what I can tell, he's 0:01:30.040 --> 0:01:35.000 a Scottish Canadian conspiracy theorist. Oddly enough, he's kind of 0:01:35.000 --> 0:01:38.479 one of the least problematic conspiracy theorists that I've run into, 0:01:38.720 --> 0:01:42.680 Like he's openly pushed back on on like anti semitism 0:01:42.760 --> 0:01:46.119 from David Ike and Alex Jones, Like he just seems 0:01:46.120 --> 0:01:48.320 to kind of be a silly guy. He died a 0:01:48.320 --> 0:01:51.360 few years ago. From what I can tell, at least 0:01:51.400 --> 0:01:55.600 on like a cursory search, he's like not the most problematic. 0:01:55.640 --> 0:01:58.520 I mean, obviously still a conspiracy theorist, but like kind 0:01:58.600 --> 0:02:02.360 of like the token good conspiracy theorists. I don't know, 0:02:02.720 --> 0:02:06.400 but he defined predictive programming as the power of suggestion 0:02:06.600 --> 0:02:10.280 using the media of fiction to create a desired outcome. 0:02:10.919 --> 0:02:14.400 A more expansive definition that he gave is quote, predictive 0:02:14.440 --> 0:02:17.480 programming is a subtle form of psychological conditioning provided by 0:02:17.480 --> 0:02:21.040 the media to acquaint the public with planned societal changes 0:02:21.160 --> 0:02:24.680 to implemented by the elites. Like I said, he 0:02:46.840 --> 0:02:48.320 kind of came up with this idea in the early 0:02:48.360 --> 0:02:52.239 two thousands, and it spread like wildfire throughout his competitors 0:02:52.240 --> 0:02:56.400 and his contemporaries in the conspiratorial milieu. But the actual term predictive programming 0:03:14.480 --> 0:03:17.480 and the modern understanding of that term are much more recent. 0:03:18.160 --> 0:03:21.440 An Ohio State University article on the topic said, quote, 0:03:21.680 --> 0:03:24.280 Predictive programming, at its core is a tactic to reduce 0:03:24.320 --> 0:03:28.600 resistance by introducing concepts that seem far fetched and continuously 0:03:28.840 --> 0:03:32.480 reintroducing them to make these concepts appear more likely or 0:03:32.480 --> 0:03:35.600 at the very least acceptable. So that's more of like 0:03:35.680 --> 0:03:41.680 an outside in definition from from researchers. So let's let's 0:03:41.680 --> 0:03:43.400 go back to Alan watch a little bit, because he's 0:03:43.440 --> 0:03:47.560 kind of been largely forgotten in the conspiratorial milieu, replaced 0:03:47.560 --> 0:03:51.880 by a whole bunch of more like bombastic and troubling 0:03:51.920 --> 0:03:55.920 figures like Jones and Ike and many many smaller, smaller 0:03:55.920 --> 0:03:59.880 conspiracy theorists. But I listened to what I believe to 0:03:59.920 --> 0:04:03.240 be the first kind of broadcast where where he coined 0:04:03.280 --> 0:04:07.360 this idea as opposed to Alex Jones. Alan Watt is 0:04:07.400 --> 0:04:10.800 like a very like calm speaker, like he's he's actually 0:04:10.840 --> 0:04:13.280 kind of just like pleasant to listen to because he's 0:04:13.320 --> 0:04:18.400 just so like like calm, methodical. He's not like bombastic. 0:04:19.080 --> 0:04:22.600 He just sounds like a regular, like chill guy. His 0:04:22.600 --> 0:04:25.599 his website is amazing. But Alan Watt describes predictive programming as a 0:04:38.120 --> 0:04:42.920 quote unquote ancient science. He thought that quote families of 0:04:43.000 --> 0:04:46.640 actors go back thousands of years. They're a specialized section 0:04:46.680 --> 0:04:51.040 of society that intermarries within their own ranks unquote. So 0:04:51.080 --> 0:04:54.000 like he thinks all actors come from like this one 0:04:54.160 --> 0:04:58.480 large like intergenerational family that have been that have been 0:04:58.520 --> 0:05:01.240 like in the profession of acting, which like is kind 0:05:01.240 --> 0:05:04.120 of true for like the Coppolas, but like, eh, you know, 0:05:04.200 --> 0:05:07.440 it's like, yes, there's a massive like inepotism problem, but 0:05:07.520 --> 0:05:11.279 like no, yeah, actors art like a single family that 0:05:11.360 --> 0:05:14.760 goes back like millennia. Quote Shakespeare was the magician that brought 0:05:36.200 --> 0:05:41.839 the English language into being unquote. So he said, like 0:05:41.920 --> 0:05:46.120 Shakespeare is like the person who developed like the modern 0:05:46.440 --> 0:05:49.560 the modern English language. Like obviously English like pre dates Shakespeare, 0:05:49.560 --> 0:05:51.840 but like he thinks that through Shakespeare's writing, he was 0:05:51.880 --> 0:05:54.760 able to like popularize the modern form of English, which 0:05:54.839 --> 0:05:57.440 just isn't true, but it's a it's a it's a 0:05:57.560 --> 0:06:00.440 funny thing to believe. And he thinks all people are 0:06:00.480 --> 0:06:03.039 like literal magicians, like like wizards, like you know, like 0:06:03.040 --> 0:06:06.280 like wands, pointy hats, like they're all like doing actual 0:06:06.279 --> 0:06:09.440 like magic. He then discusses how 0:06:30.640 --> 0:06:36.400 like Hollywood controls people through like war movies, and how 0:06:36.480 --> 0:06:39.799 like the DoD helps Hollywood with equipment for war movies, 0:06:39.800 --> 0:06:42.080 but they have to approve the messaging, which like that 0:06:42.120 --> 0:06:44.400 has like a little grain of truth in there, Like yes, 0:06:44.680 --> 0:06:47.000 to use military equipment, you do need to get like 0:06:47.040 --> 0:06:50.800 approval from people in the government. And yeah, there is 0:06:50.839 --> 0:06:53.640 a form of Hollywood that is like just war propaganda 0:06:53.640 --> 0:06:56.080 like that there is there's there's a kernel of truth here, 0:06:56.400 --> 0:06:58.920 but not exactly in the way. So probably the funniest thing he gets to 0:07:40.040 --> 0:07:45.360 on this whole Hollywood as magician's rant is quote, if 0:07:45.360 --> 0:07:49.040 you look at the word Hollywood, it means holy wood, 0:07:49.360 --> 0:07:52.600 which of course is the staff of the magi, the 0:07:52.680 --> 0:07:56.560 grand magus of the occult. He waves a wand and 0:07:56.720 --> 0:08:03.880 everything is changed. He casts the spell. So so he 0:08:03.960 --> 0:08:06.880 thinks that Hollywood literally refers to like a magic wand, 0:08:07.000 --> 0:08:13.000 like a holy a holywood. He then he then also 0:08:13.040 --> 0:08:15.800 talks about Hollywood as like as like a grove, like 0:08:15.800 --> 0:08:18.440 like Hollywood, like the place is is is a grove 0:08:18.680 --> 0:08:23.760 quote similar to Jewish holy groves and folklore. Moses's staff 0:08:23.880 --> 0:08:26.160 was placed in a grove and that was a special 0:08:26.240 --> 0:08:30.200 place for higher magi to meet. Unquote. Things or ideas that would otherwise be seen 0:09:05.000 --> 0:09:09.400 as bizarre, vulgar, undesirable, or impossible are inserted into films 0:09:09.440 --> 0:09:13.160 in the realm of fantasy. When the viewer watches these films, 0:09:13.240 --> 0:09:16.000 his or her mind is left open to suggestion and 0:09:16.040 --> 0:09:19.760 the conditioning process begins. These same movies, which are designed 0:09:19.800 --> 0:09:22.839 to program the average person, can give the discerning viewer 0:09:22.920 --> 0:09:26.160 a better understanding of the workings and the plan of 0:09:26.200 --> 0:09:30.240 the world agenda unquote. So Unlike a lot of modern 0:09:30.240 --> 0:09:33.520 conspiracy theorists who like refuse to watch movies because of 0:09:33.559 --> 0:09:37.280 predicting programming, Alan Watt thinks it's actually useful to watch 0:09:37.320 --> 0:09:40.079 movies because you can get like a future like glimpse 0:09:40.120 --> 0:09:42.520 of what is gonna happen in the world, which is 0:09:42.559 --> 0:09:45.160 like a neat little difference compared to some of his 0:09:45.280 --> 0:09:47.680 modern contemporaries. Yeah you can. You can. Now. A writer and 0:10:11.320 --> 0:10:13.680 producer of The Simpsons from back in the nineties, Bill Oakley, 0:10:13.840 --> 0:10:16.040 gave a statement to Reuters a few years ago about 0:10:16.040 --> 0:10:19.080 the concept of The Simpsons being able to predict real 0:10:19.120 --> 0:10:22.200 world events. Quote. I would say in general, when people 0:10:22.240 --> 0:10:25.000 say The Simpsons has predicted something, it's that we were 0:10:25.120 --> 0:10:28.640 really just satirizing real life events from years before, and 0:10:28.720 --> 0:10:31.840 because history keeps repeating itself, it just seems like we're 0:10:31.840 --> 0:10:34.320 predicting things unquote. So I think is actually a really 0:10:34.360 --> 0:10:38.720 great observation. Now, many of the kind 0:11:02.480 --> 0:11:05.800 of vigral quote unquote predictions you see online associated with 0:11:05.800 --> 0:11:09.400 The Simpsons actually just have a vastly different context within 0:11:09.520 --> 0:11:13.480 the show, and in many cases are actually just altered 0:11:13.520 --> 0:11:18.280 images fan art, photoshops or memes with mislabeled timestamps, or 0:11:18.480 --> 0:11:23.200 genuine images satirizing current events, making it appear as if 0:11:23.200 --> 0:11:26.000 the Simpsons version happened beforehand, when really it was like 0:11:26.120 --> 0:11:29.920 something satirizing an event a month ago, made to look 0:11:29.960 --> 0:11:31.520 like it was actually produced in like two thousand and 0:11:31.559 --> 0:11:33.840 seven or something, Right, So it's just a whole bunch 0:11:33.840 --> 0:11:38.000 of manipulated media. One instance of something that appears to 0:11:38.040 --> 0:11:40.400 be an impressive prediction but is actually just showing how 0:11:40.400 --> 0:11:42.720 the creators of the show pay attention to politics is 0:11:42.760 --> 0:11:46.080 the purple suit that President Lisa wears, bearing similarity to 0:11:46.160 --> 0:11:49.920 Kamala Harris's get up on an inauguration day, but purple 0:11:50.240 --> 0:11:53.720 was also worn by Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton during 0:11:53.760 --> 0:11:56.440 previous inauguration days. It's the color of the Suffagette movement, 0:11:56.760 --> 0:11:59.360 and it tends to symbolize unity between red and blue states. 0:11:59.200 --> 0:12:04.000 It's a very common thing that women wear at inauguration day, 0:12:04.080 --> 0:12:07.240 so like it's just a good guess.
