WEBVTT - Jay Z Almost Quit Rap!

0:00:00.409 --> 0:00:03.530
<v Speaker 1>Jay-Z says he nearly walked away from rap right after

0:00:03.590 --> 0:00:06.910
<v Speaker 1>Reasonable Doubt because he thought becoming a businessman made more sense.

0:00:07.310 --> 0:00:09.850
<v Speaker 1>I guess he didn't love the artist's lifestyle, felt he

0:00:10.030 --> 0:00:12.930
<v Speaker 1>already was living better than some rappers at the time.

0:00:13.780 --> 0:00:17.210
<v Speaker 1>Videos and interviews and all that stuff, he wasn't into it.

0:00:17.570 --> 0:00:20.740
<v Speaker 1>He looked at Russell Simmons as the blueprint for the

0:00:20.780 --> 0:00:23.180
<v Speaker 1>executive lane that he wanted, but he did stick with music.

0:00:23.579 --> 0:00:25.709
<v Speaker 1>dropped some more chart toppers and built one of the

0:00:25.750 --> 0:00:28.960
<v Speaker 1>biggest business empires in entertainment. So almost walked away and

0:00:29.000 --> 0:00:30.690
<v Speaker 1>now he's doing both, which is pretty amazing.
