He needed someone to 0:08:01.360 --> 0:08:03.920 show his nature through. Then, after making 0:08:30.480 --> 0:08:34.360 the man, he began to create not only the world 0:08:34.720 --> 0:08:38.280 the man, but a nation through Abram, through someone who 0:08:38.400 --> 0:08:42.920 seemed unlikely, and the nation of Israel spent a whole 0:08:42.920 --> 0:08:45.760 lot of time trying to figure out what we spent 0:08:45.840 --> 0:08:47.640 our whole lives trying to figure out, or at least 0:08:47.679 --> 0:08:52.480 our teenage years and our twenties is like, what's my identity? 0:08:53.960 --> 0:08:57.320 So what you're really seeing in Joshua be fourteen is 0:08:57.320 --> 0:09:01.079 not just people getting some real estate, but they're coming 0:09:01.160 --> 0:09:05.360 into their identity, their national identity. And it's hard because 0:09:05.400 --> 0:09:08.080 they've been through so much and they started from something 0:09:08.160 --> 0:09:11.680 so small. It's easy for them to see themselves according 0:09:11.760 --> 0:09:15.400 to what they've been through or where they started. And 0:09:15.480 --> 0:09:17.840 now they're breaking up. There's nine and a half tribes 0:09:17.880 --> 0:09:20.200 that get this land, and so Joshua and the priests 0:09:20.400 --> 0:09:23.200 they're shaking this receptacle. This is how they would cast lots. 0:09:23.520 --> 0:09:25.480 They would take the thing and shake it and they 0:09:25.480 --> 0:09:28.960 would have little wood blocks with different codes on them, 0:09:29.160 --> 0:09:30.920 and then they would kind of shake it out and 0:09:30.960 --> 0:09:33.680 what it fell on that meant this tribe gets that land, 0:09:33.720 --> 0:09:36.760 and this tribe gets that land. Okay, I 0:09:42.760 --> 0:09:47.280 got a promise, Moses said. Now, remember Moses was the 0:09:47.280 --> 0:09:50.280 one who was supposed to lead the people into the land, 0:09:50.679 --> 0:09:53.520 but he was unable to do it. And here's how 0:09:53.559 --> 0:09:58.000 I would put it if I were a preacher. So now your addiction speaks 0:10:22.080 --> 0:10:25.600 more to you about your potential than God's word over you, 0:10:25.720 --> 0:10:29.600 than the prophetic gift that's inside of you. It happens 0:10:29.600 --> 0:10:32.600 to all of us when when you've been suffering from something, 0:10:32.840 --> 0:10:35.000 you can begin to take on the name of your 0:10:35.040 --> 0:10:38.880 disease or your issue. It's writing the name of your creator, 0:10:39.040 --> 0:10:42.560 whose image you were made of. But see, it's how 0:10:42.600 --> 0:10:45.559 you see it, it's how you see yourself. And I 0:10:45.640 --> 0:10:47.240 think I can prove to you if you give me 0:10:47.360 --> 0:10:50.120 like two and a half minutes, that the reason the 0:10:50.240 --> 0:10:54.160 people didn't go into the land under Moses was because 0:10:54.240 --> 0:10:59.280 Moses never really saw himself in the image of his creator. 0:11:00.720 --> 0:11:02.719 Abram did. Abram did even though he had a hard 0:11:02.720 --> 0:11:04.160 time getting with it, even though he was like, you 0:11:04.160 --> 0:11:06.040 got any pills for that or anything like that, because 0:11:06.040 --> 0:11:07.840 I'm old now. And even though he had to wait 0:11:07.880 --> 0:11:09.960 for Isaac and he messed up in the process and 0:11:10.240 --> 0:11:12.560 ended up producing something that caused him more trouble by 0:11:12.559 --> 0:11:15.800 sleeping with Hagar. That Jesus shows 0:12:18.760 --> 0:12:23.120 us what God is like, that the Word became flesh 0:12:23.200 --> 0:12:26.120 and dwelled among us. That's what Jesus is. He is 0:12:26.480 --> 0:12:28.760 the image of the God that we can't see. Did 0:12:28.760 --> 0:12:31.360 I get it right? Colossians one fifteen, That he is 0:12:31.400 --> 0:12:35.240 the image of the invisible God. This is the challenge 0:12:35.640 --> 0:12:39.160 for everybody under the sound of my voice. I got all these mirrors in 0:13:02.800 --> 0:13:05.000 my house that are messed up, and I know they're 0:13:05.000 --> 0:13:07.160 messed up because they keep showing me. My beard is 0:13:07.160 --> 0:13:10.720 supposed to be black. But I look in those mirrors 0:13:10.800 --> 0:13:12.760 and they're messed up. They're defective. I'm gonna take them 0:13:12.800 --> 0:13:14.559 back to the store because they keep showing me these 0:13:14.600 --> 0:13:18.480 gray patches. Like I'm forty years old and I started 0:13:18.520 --> 0:13:21.680 rebuking mirrors in my house. You know, these lines coming 0:13:21.720 --> 0:13:23.800 up under my eyes, and I'm like, you are a liar, 0:13:23.880 --> 0:13:25.680 like your father the devil. I cast you back to 0:13:25.720 --> 0:13:29.040 the pit of Hell or this it actor. How many 0:13:29.080 --> 0:13:33.600 ever looked in a messed up mirror? How many ever 0:13:33.600 --> 0:13:35.600 have people around you that made you feel a certain 0:13:35.640 --> 0:13:44.160 way about yourself. When Moses was coming into his identity 0:13:44.160 --> 0:13:47.840 and assignment, he had to deal with the fact that 0:13:47.960 --> 0:13:50.560 he was really living with two different images of who 0:13:50.640 --> 0:13:54.680 he was. And remember, God is using Moses to deliver 0:13:54.760 --> 0:13:59.240 the Israelites out of this Egyptian oppression. And when Moses 0:13:59.280 --> 0:14:03.840 first first starts to act on his impulse, he does 0:14:03.880 --> 0:14:06.600 the right thing, but he does it the wrong way. 0:14:07.240 --> 0:14:11.040 He defends his people, but he does it by murdering 0:14:11.080 --> 0:14:14.600 an Egyptian. So he's ahead of his time and he's 0:14:14.640 --> 0:14:17.040 out of his own but he's doing the right thing. 0:14:17.600 --> 0:14:19.520 But he still doesn't know who he is yet, and 0:14:19.520 --> 0:14:21.720 it's difficult for him because he doesn't really fit in 0:14:21.800 --> 0:14:25.080 with either group that he's living with. The Hebrews are 0:14:25.080 --> 0:14:28.240 the people he was born from. The Egyptians are the 0:14:28.240 --> 0:14:31.720 people that he was raised by. But he identifies more 0:14:31.800 --> 0:14:34.080 with the people that he was born from than the 0:14:34.120 --> 0:14:37.960 people he was raised by, so he doesn't really fit in. 0:14:38.360 --> 0:14:41.160 And when you don't really fit into either group, you 0:14:41.240 --> 0:14:45.120 end up running. That's what happened to Moses. He confronted 0:14:45.160 --> 0:14:47.640 an Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew one day, and 0:14:47.720 --> 0:14:50.000 he killed him and buried him. But then the next 0:14:50.080 --> 0:14:52.320 day he went out and saw two of his brothers fighting, 0:14:52.520 --> 0:14:54.760 and he was like, break it up, guys. You know 0:14:55.000 --> 0:14:58.200 we're suffering enough from them. We don't have to kill 0:14:58.240 --> 0:15:00.760 each other. And this isn't a this chapter two. I 0:15:00.800 --> 0:15:02.080 want to show it to you real quick. You got 0:15:02.080 --> 0:15:06.520 it Exodus too. The man said back to him, who 0:15:07.120 --> 0:15:10.760 has made you a prince and a judge over us? 0:15:11.280 --> 0:15:13.840 Do you mean to kill me as you have killed 0:15:13.840 --> 0:15:17.600 the Egyptian? And then Moses was afraid and thought, surely 0:15:17.720 --> 0:15:21.520 the thing is known, and he ran. He ran. We 0:15:21.560 --> 0:15:24.920 don't really see him in his next stage of his 0:15:25.000 --> 0:15:29.560 assignment until forty years later. He ran because he was 0:15:29.600 --> 0:15:33.280 to Hebrew to be an Egyptian and to Egyptian to 0:15:33.360 --> 0:15:36.080 be a Hebrew. And when you don't really fit in 0:15:36.120 --> 0:15:39.000 with either, you don't know who you are, and you 0:15:39.120 --> 0:15:43.120 spend years of your life running from who you really are, 0:15:43.640 --> 0:15:46.960 looking in the mirror of your last mistake. People would 0:16:09.240 --> 0:16:14.560 rather define you by your worst mistake. What's crazy about 0:16:14.680 --> 0:16:18.240 Moses is he killed a man and there's only one 0:16:18.400 --> 0:16:22.440 verse in the Bible about the murder. Now, if you 0:16:22.520 --> 0:16:26.360 let church people write the Bible, they would have had 0:16:26.400 --> 0:16:30.040 a whole book about it. Would be called the Book 0:16:30.040 --> 0:16:34.760 of Moses's murder, the Book of Moses's Mistake, the Book 0:16:34.760 --> 0:16:39.280 of Debbi's divorce, the book of your lowest moment.
