The reason he's in the news 0:02:26.160 --> 0:02:29.160 is because he served nearly thirty years in prison for 0:02:29.400 --> 0:02:35.000 murder before being exonerated, and of course he filed a lawsuit. 0:02:35.360 --> 0:02:37.200 This happened in Chicago, so it was against the Chicago 0:02:37.280 --> 0:02:41.400 police department, alleging that he was beaten, tortured and officers 0:02:41.440 --> 0:02:44.440 coerced him in deciding a false confession, which, as we 0:02:44.520 --> 0:02:47.280 know from you know, the video when they see us, 0:02:47.320 --> 0:02:50.440 and from our own personal stories and of course many 0:02:50.480 --> 0:02:55.280 documented instances throughout history, is something that does happen, especially 0:02:55.320 --> 0:03:01.200 to black and brown people when they're incarcerated. And he says, 0:03:01.240 --> 0:03:03.080 you know, quote, I think everyone in the world should 0:03:03.120 --> 0:03:05.959 know that these people are still out here. He wants justice, 0:03:06.000 --> 0:03:08.320 and he's starting the lawsuit today because he's seeking justice 0:03:08.320 --> 0:03:11.080 for the people who are treated unjust, not like human beings. 0:03:11.840 --> 0:03:15.320 The person responsible for putting him in prison is the 0:03:15.440 --> 0:03:19.560 Chicago police commander John Birch, who died, but the lawsuit 0:03:19.639 --> 0:03:25.560 names his estate, and I guess he had a quote 0:03:25.600 --> 0:03:28.520 midnight crew of officers and detective that are believed to 0:03:28.560 --> 0:03:33.519 have you arrested falsely over one hundred people, mostly black men, 0:03:34.200 --> 0:03:37.640 and they really sought to obtain false confession.
