She 0:03:01.680 --> 0:03:05.679 lived in DeLand, Florida, which is, for those unfamiliars, a 0:03:06.040 --> 0:03:10.800 pretty rural town in Vlusha County, Florida. It especially was 0:03:11.040 --> 0:03:15.720 in nineteen ninety four. Larlie went to DeLand High School 0:03:16.400 --> 0:03:20.000 and she was a just getting into the cheerleading squad, 0:03:20.360 --> 0:03:23.359 and in addition to that, she was active in her 0:03:23.760 --> 0:03:27.960 local church youth group. From all of the interviews with 0:03:28.200 --> 0:03:33.720 family and friends, those were her two main priorities. Extracurricular 0:03:33.760 --> 0:03:37.600 stuff outside of that didn't really didn't really exist. So 0:03:37.680 --> 0:03:40.480 it was it was school, homework, straight A. Y'all did not do that. Y'all immediately took 0:07:32.240 --> 0:07:35.800 this seriously, got some deputies over there, started a search, 0:07:36.280 --> 0:07:38.960 even put a helicopter in the air. But way back in the 0:13:19.960 --> 0:13:23.199 day when this started, through interviews that were done at 0:13:23.200 --> 0:13:27.000 the time, a dark colored truck became a focal point 0:13:27.000 --> 0:13:31.800 of this investigation after some neighbors in the area talked about, 0:13:32.600 --> 0:13:35.920 you know, hearing gunshots, hearing gunshots around the time of 0:13:35.960 --> 0:13:38.439 the murder when it would have happened, and then seeing 0:13:38.760 --> 0:13:42.120 a dark colored truck beaten feet pretty quick out of 0:13:42.120 --> 0:13:44.600 the area. It doesn't mean that's what we're looking for, 0:13:44.640 --> 0:13:48.280 but it's a clue. At the time, you know, before 0:13:49.120 --> 0:13:53.360 DNA evidence and anything like that existed, or while it 0:13:53.400 --> 0:13:56.320 was in its infancy, this dark colored truck was one 0:13:56.360 --> 0:13:59.480 of the biggest leads. We wound up with a guy. 0:14:01.320 --> 0:14:06.200 His name was Bobby Rally. Bobby Raley was he was 0:14:06.280 --> 0:14:11.679 currently in jail for a double murder that he and 0:14:11.800 --> 0:14:18.360 his cousin, Domingo Figueroa, committed in June of that year, 0:14:18.440 --> 0:14:21.240 So June nineteen ninety four, like a month and a 0:14:21.280 --> 0:14:25.440 half after this murder, and while he was in jail 0:14:25.480 --> 0:14:28.400 for it, there were some people in the jail that 0:14:28.680 --> 0:14:33.280 started giving information about him, saying that he had confessed 0:14:33.320 --> 0:14:36.560 to this, or he was making really weird comments about 0:14:36.560 --> 0:14:39.440 this case. What they were telling us or what they 0:14:39.440 --> 0:14:42.840 were telling the detectives at the time seemed very good. 0:14:42.920 --> 0:14:47.000 It was decent evidence. We got all these people, probably 0:14:47.040 --> 0:14:48.920 like five or six people in the jail. It was 0:14:49.000 --> 0:14:53.120 coming forward with this stuff that either Bobby Rally is 0:14:53.160 --> 0:14:57.560 telling them or they inadvertently observed about him when he 0:14:57.640 --> 0:15:01.320 was at the jail, and so, uh, that really put 0:15:01.360 --> 0:15:04.280 him on the radar. You know, he matched a or 0:15:04.320 --> 0:15:06.800 he drove a vehicle that was pretty close to the 0:15:06.840 --> 0:15:11.600 suspect description. I guess it was probably like a day 0:15:11.720 --> 0:15:15.720 or two after the murder he actually took off to Virginia. 0:15:16.360 --> 0:15:18.640 That was one of the things that we were looking for, 0:15:18.760 --> 0:15:20.720 is that somebody who may all of a sudden up 0:15:20.760 --> 0:15:23.760 and leave town, you know, after this sort of thing happens. 0:15:24.400 --> 0:15:29.600 And so all this evidence was was compiled, it was 0:15:29.640 --> 0:15:32.640 brought to a grand jury, and Bobby Rally was indicted 0:15:32.640 --> 0:15:37.760 for this murder. And then some inconsistencies started showing. Long 0:15:37.800 --> 0:15:43.640 story short, the investigation was reassigned and I guess I'll 0:15:43.640 --> 0:15:45.400 say it was determined that Bobby Rally didn't do it, 0:15:45.440 --> 0:15:49.000 but it was determined there wasn't probable cause for Bobby 0:15:49.080 --> 0:15:55.479 Rally having done it, especially especially one of one of 0:15:55.520 --> 0:15:59.920 the most impactful pieces of evidence was there was a 0:16:00.440 --> 0:16:03.680 truck upholstery shop in the area and that was run 0:16:04.160 --> 0:16:07.800 by a retired deputy who used to work with us. 0:16:08.120 --> 0:16:10.920 On the day of the murder, Bobby Raley brought his 0:16:10.960 --> 0:16:13.960 truck in there to get his seats replaced, and it 0:16:14.040 --> 0:16:16.800 was in such a timeframe that it wouldn't have been 0:16:16.920 --> 0:16:21.360 possible for him to do the murder and get back 0:16:21.400 --> 0:16:24.880 there and be there to have his truck work done. 0:16:25.160 --> 0:16:28.480 And so the charges against him were dropped and for 0:16:28.520 --> 0:16:30.880 all intents and purposes, it was back to square one 0:16:30.920 --> 0:16:35.680 with the investigation. Because this process with charging Bobby Raley, 0:16:35.680 --> 0:16:37.200 I think it went on for a couple of years, 0:16:37.240 --> 0:16:41.480 you know, after him being charged and you know, hearings 0:16:41.520 --> 0:16:44.080 and the court process and all of that. So during 0:16:44.120 --> 0:16:48.920 that time the investigation wasn't focused on anyone else. After 0:16:48.960 --> 0:16:53.120 going through the case file and the deep dives that 0:16:53.160 --> 0:16:56.440 I've done on it, there were a lot of good 0:16:57.240 --> 0:17:02.400 suspects at the time. Say, in my experience as a detective, 0:17:02.720 --> 0:17:07.000 I've never seen a rogues gallery of such good suspects 0:17:07.600 --> 0:17:10.720 in a small area, especially a small little town like this. 0:17:11.640 --> 0:17:15.040 Over the years after the charges against Rawlei were dropped, 0:17:15.200 --> 0:17:18.000 the detectives that have worked on this case before me, 0:17:18.320 --> 0:17:22.800 I've obviously done their due diligence to try and rule 0:17:22.840 --> 0:17:25.720 out these other good suspects that we have. Some of 0:17:25.760 --> 0:17:29.000 them have been ruled out, and you know, some of 0:17:29.040 --> 0:17:32.000 them haven't been cooperative or for whatever reason, they have 0:17:32.119 --> 0:17:36.600 not been ruled out.
