WEBVTT - Introducing: What Happened to Her

0:00:00.190 --> 0:00:04.450
<v Speaker 1>I'm investigative reporter Melissa Jeltsin. For four seasons, I've been

0:00:04.470 --> 0:00:08.150
<v Speaker 1>telling the stories of women whose lives and deaths were

0:00:08.190 --> 0:00:11.540
<v Speaker 1>caught up in a series of systemic and cultural failures.

0:00:12.100 --> 0:00:13.920
<v Speaker 2>If that was my friend, I would be flipping over

0:00:14.000 --> 0:00:16.500
<v Speaker 2>rocks trying to find her. I'd call the National Guard.

0:00:16.520 --> 0:00:17.259
<v Speaker 2>I would be out there.

0:00:17.800 --> 0:00:21.400
<v Speaker 3>You can put any damn thing you want down. That

0:00:21.440 --> 0:00:22.980
<v Speaker 3>doesn't mean that happened that way.

0:00:23.840 --> 0:00:29.450
<v Speaker 4>What happened to her is unknown. And it's something that

0:00:30.360 --> 0:00:30.960
<v Speaker 4>I need to know.

0:00:32.110 --> 0:00:35.490
<v Speaker 1>Now I'm going wider. In my new show, What Happened

0:00:35.530 --> 0:00:39.550
<v Speaker 1>to Her, I bring you new stories every week. Stories

0:00:39.610 --> 0:00:43.130
<v Speaker 1>about women whose deaths were too quickly ruled a suicide.

0:00:43.710 --> 0:00:45.720
<v Speaker 1>You're not going to kill yourself in the middle of

0:00:45.820 --> 0:00:49.800
<v Speaker 1>doing laundry. Stories about women no one believed.

0:00:50.700 --> 0:00:54.600
<v Speaker 5>We were feeling some guilt. We were feeling like, did

0:00:54.700 --> 0:00:58.410
<v Speaker 5>we overstep? Then we would have these discussions about like,

0:00:58.590 --> 0:00:59.950
<v Speaker 5>wait a minute, we did the right thing.

0:01:00.630 --> 0:01:03.280
<v Speaker 1>Cases that everyone else called closed.

0:01:04.160 --> 0:01:07.580
<v Speaker 6>I was like, how? How can it be? They can't

0:01:07.620 --> 0:01:10.520
<v Speaker 6>convict her, right? Like, she has so much evidence.

0:01:11.360 --> 0:01:14.399
<v Speaker 1>And the people who gave everything to get an answer.

0:01:15.140 --> 0:01:17.800
<v Speaker 4>It's taken my whole life. It's all I ever think about,

0:01:17.940 --> 0:01:19.550
<v Speaker 4>but we only have one shot at it.

0:01:20.240 --> 0:01:22.880
<v Speaker 1>Every one of these stories starts in the same place,

0:01:23.580 --> 0:01:26.650
<v Speaker 1>with a woman failed by a system that didn't believe her,

0:01:26.970 --> 0:01:29.410
<v Speaker 1>that didn't protect her, that didn't see her.

0:01:30.270 --> 0:01:32.890
<v Speaker 7>No child should ever experience that. And we were babies.

0:01:33.910 --> 0:01:38.060
<v Speaker 7>We were babies. She did all of these brave things

0:01:38.260 --> 0:01:41.540
<v Speaker 7>and came out and spoke about it, and he got

0:01:41.580 --> 0:01:41.880
<v Speaker 7>a year.

0:01:41.900 --> 0:01:43.640
<v Speaker 3>You never know who.

0:01:43.560 --> 0:01:45.880
<v Speaker 7>That devil is because he's wearing a disguise.

0:01:46.760 --> 0:01:47.960
<v Speaker 3>Sometimes it's a police uniform.

0:01:49.050 --> 0:01:52.650
<v Speaker 1>Listen to What Happened to Her starting on September 17th

0:01:52.970 --> 0:01:56.290
