So that's what that was based on. Even though this guy 1:14:29.520 --> 1:14:32.120 is surrounded by US marshals, he's got the nerve to 1:14:32.160 --> 1:14:35.400 be like shooting dirty looks around the courtroom, and he's 1:14:35.439 --> 1:14:38.599 saying stuff like I shouldn't be serving time for this, 1:14:38.720 --> 1:14:40.360 like you guys are liars, Like this is not I 1:14:40.360 --> 1:14:42.920 didn't do anything. The judge doesn't buy it, and on 1:14:42.960 --> 1:14:45.240 April seventh, two thousand and five, he was sentenced to 1:14:45.280 --> 1:14:47.080 forty years for his plot. 1:14:46.800 --> 1:14:48.400 To kill the judge. 1:14:48.439 --> 1:14:54.360 Meanwhile, just five weeks earlier from the sentencing, judge Lefgal's 1:14:54.520 --> 1:14:57.960 husband and mother were murdered in the judge's home on 1:14:58.040 --> 1:15:00.720 the North side of Chicago. The judge judge came home 1:15:00.760 --> 1:15:03.479 to find her husband, Michael Francis Lefcou, aged sixty four, 1:15:03.520 --> 1:15:06.559 and her mother, Donna Grace Glenn Humphrey, eighty nine, in 1:15:06.640 --> 1:15:10.040 the basement, both shot multiple times. There was evidence of 1:15:10.080 --> 1:15:12.360 a break in. There were twenty two caliber bullet casings 1:15:12.360 --> 1:15:14.200 found at the scene. They also got a fingerprint, a 1:15:14.240 --> 1:15:16.720 bloody footprint, a soda can, and a cigarette butt in 1:15:16.760 --> 1:15:20.360 the sink. So this guy was Richard ramirezing about basically 1:15:20.439 --> 1:15:23.759 just like leaving so much evidence, and Hale was initially 1:15:23.800 --> 1:15:26.559 a suspect. They thought he might have orchestrated this from prison, 1:15:26.600 --> 1:15:29.240 and that is where SVU went with that episode that 1:15:29.520 --> 1:15:32.799 Hale is organizing this like revenge campaign on a judge, 1:15:33.080 --> 1:15:35.559 which obviously they moved because they could get Marshall Gay 1:15:35.560 --> 1:15:38.479 Harden to an FBI agent in this episode. But on 1:15:38.560 --> 1:15:43.200 March ninth, about ten or twelve days after the murder 1:15:43.240 --> 1:15:47.280 of these family members of this judge, in West Allis, Wisconsin, 1:15:47.920 --> 1:15:50.759 local police stopped a van for a routine traffic stop 1:15:50.840 --> 1:15:53.960 and as the police officer approached the van, the driver 1:15:54.120 --> 1:15:57.200 named bart Allen Ross, age fifty seven, shot and took 1:15:57.240 --> 1:16:00.720 his own life, and later a sumer side note was 1:16:00.760 --> 1:16:03.840 found confessing to the murders of Lefsko's husband and mother. 1:16:04.640 --> 1:16:08.240 So Hale was cleared of that, but he's still currently 1:16:08.400 --> 1:16:10.400 in jail. His DNA was matched to the cigarette 1:16:24.800 --> 1:16:27.599 butt that was found in the sink, and his deal 1:16:27.840 --> 1:16:31.360 is basically Lefko had dismissed a case that he had 1:16:31.400 --> 1:16:34.840 been suing for medical malpractice. This man Ross had been 1:16:34.880 --> 1:16:37.960 a financially stable worker with a home, and then he 1:16:38.000 --> 1:16:40.960 contracted a rare mouth cancer. He had to go get 1:16:41.040 --> 1:16:43.799 multiple surgeries and treatments which did get rid of the cancer, 1:16:43.840 --> 1:16:46.640 but he was left disfigured and in constant pain and 1:16:46.680 --> 1:16:48.720 financially in debt, and he was living in his van. 1:16:49.520 --> 1:16:52.680 So he killed the judge because she threw out his 1:16:52.760 --> 1:16:56.640 malpractice case, and it's a really sad story of desperation 1:16:56.720 --> 1:16:58.640 in our broken medical system, but it is not an 1:16:58.640 --> 1:17:02.000 excuse to murder people.
