Ninety seven of them nothing happens. One of the things that while we're here, 0:12:39.000 --> 0:12:41.800 one of the things that I brought up in a 0:12:41.840 --> 0:12:47.120 conversation more recently was the myth that black men don't 0:12:47.160 --> 0:12:50.560 take care of our children, right, is a very very 0:12:50.600 --> 0:12:57.080 harmful myth that was created in I believe it was 0:12:57.160 --> 0:13:04.920 the fifties by a Democrat, a liberal Democrat, who was 0:13:05.000 --> 0:13:14.679 trying to find a reason for uh uh, economic inequality 0:13:15.000 --> 0:13:19.560 black families and non black white families. Right. He's trying 0:13:19.600 --> 0:13:23.480 to find the basis for this. And what this liberal gentleman, 0:13:23.520 --> 0:13:25.160 I forget his name, but what he found out in 0:13:25.200 --> 0:13:29.679 his published report that became sort of the bible when 0:13:29.679 --> 0:13:32.240 it came to dealing with black people in economics in 0:13:32.280 --> 0:13:35.160 this country for many years. What he found was that 0:13:36.240 --> 0:13:39.960 the black family structure was broken, and as a result 0:13:39.960 --> 0:13:49.480 of that, that black people were suffering economic disadvantages. Right now. 0:13:50.679 --> 0:13:53.440 His report did not account for let me let me, 0:13:53.600 --> 0:14:00.440 let me, uh consult my list here housing this crimination. 0:14:01.520 --> 0:14:05.200 It did not account for environmental racism, It did not 0:14:05.280 --> 0:14:09.720 account for the corrupt criminal justice system. It did not 0:14:09.880 --> 0:14:17.440 count for account for the the lack of teaching and 0:14:17.120 --> 0:14:23.680 the educational inequities. It did not account for improper funding 0:14:23.680 --> 0:14:26.320 of the GI Bill and the promises to Black Americans. 0:14:26.320 --> 0:14:31.000 It did not account for redlining and the disenfranchisement of 0:14:31.080 --> 0:14:38.920 the Black voat. It did not account for drugs and 0:14:38.920 --> 0:14:40.960 the way the drugs have been criminalized in this country 0:14:41.560 --> 0:14:44.080 with respect to black people in particular, And that list 0:14:44.120 --> 0:14:45.600 goes on. You get what I'm trying to say. This 0:14:45.720 --> 0:14:49.120 guy singularly said the reason that black people don't have 0:14:49.160 --> 0:14:51.560 money is because black fathers are not in the homes. 0:14:51.640 --> 0:14:56.960 And that started this myth. Right, first off, it wasn't true, 0:14:57.200 --> 0:15:03.640 but his basis was marriage rates and the birth rates 0:15:03.720 --> 0:15:06.920 of black children. Right, I'm telling you, like you don't know, 0:15:07.120 --> 0:15:11.240 but our listeners don't know. So some of our listeners 0:15:11.280 --> 0:15:14.680 don't know I've died. Those are the people that 0:15:50.280 --> 0:15:52.480 are in the pictures that you remember that jumped into 0:15:52.480 --> 0:15:56.440 your mind when I gave you that example. Right, But 0:15:56.560 --> 0:15:59.800 imagine how hard black people were hit during that time 0:16:00.200 --> 0:16:02.880 and what resources black people had because the country was 0:16:02.920 --> 0:16:05.480 way more racist back then, so black people was way 0:16:05.480 --> 0:16:08.080 at the back of that line. Right. But how you 0:16:08.120 --> 0:16:10.880 could get a little bit more compassion, a little bit 0:16:10.880 --> 0:16:14.880 more empathy is if you were a mother, a woman 0:16:15.040 --> 0:16:19.120 who was a mother and unmarried, right, So again you 0:16:19.200 --> 0:16:23.200 might know people who operate this way. Furthermore, it doesn't 0:17:04.640 --> 0:17:09.720 account for the fact that there is a large migration 0:17:09.760 --> 0:17:13.160 of black people from the South to the north, places 0:17:13.160 --> 0:17:17.360 like Detroit where you're from the automotive industry, and other 0:17:17.359 --> 0:17:20.240 places you know in Chicago and you know, Michigan and 0:17:20.280 --> 0:17:22.840 places like that where black people were able to find 0:17:23.600 --> 0:17:32.159 job opportunities. Right, So this man just decides that, Okay, 0:17:32.240 --> 0:17:34.200 black fathers are not in their homes, not that they're 0:17:34.200 --> 0:17:36.600 not providing none of this sort of stuff. And this 0:17:36.640 --> 0:17:39.399 is why it's important for there to be more black researchers, 0:17:39.440 --> 0:17:42.280 because they might have known, Okay, well, maybe there's something 0:17:42.280 --> 0:17:44.200 else that we need to look into. Right.
