But that but the fact that they 0:02:12.320 --> 0:02:14.760 were able to overwhelm and shut down an entire school 0:02:14.760 --> 0:02:17.480 board meeting with hundreds of people like invading this building, 0:02:17.880 --> 0:02:20.040 UM and shutting this down with just the shurement of 0:02:20.120 --> 0:02:23.320 like power that the people had there was it was 0:02:23.960 --> 0:02:28.240 It's notable because it's like it's it's a liberal ish city, right, 0:02:28.280 --> 0:02:31.079 It's that's generally how people view it as. You know 0:05:12.600 --> 0:05:14.800 this that this was happening the last last school season 0:05:14.839 --> 0:05:18.000 as well, but really the past few months, the the 0:05:18.040 --> 0:05:22.320 prevalence and the number of these types of like mobs 0:05:22.720 --> 0:05:25.599 based overtaking these school boards has become so much more 0:05:25.640 --> 0:05:29.039 common UM that the school Board Union put in like 0:05:29.279 --> 0:05:32.080 sent like a letter directly to the president saying, hey, 0:05:32.279 --> 0:05:35.240 we kind of need help here. So it's it's 0:05:35.279 --> 0:05:37.960 not just it's this is this is a problem that's 0:05:37.960 --> 0:05:42.240 recognized widely even among people like on school boards, because yeah, 0:05:42.240 --> 0:05:45.680 they're getting like harassed, they're getting death threats. UM. This 0:05:45.760 --> 0:05:49.200 is becoming like unsafe to hold school board meetings. UM. 0:05:49.560 --> 0:05:51.919 And whether or not you like our modern school system 0:05:52.000 --> 0:05:54.640 or not, the resulting effect of this is that it's 0:05:54.640 --> 0:05:58.360 gonna be hurting like kids, like like, it's a good 0:05:58.640 --> 0:06:01.279 whether it be through like COVID, whether it be through 0:06:01.400 --> 0:06:05.080 teaching them racist like curriculums, or whether it be to 0:06:05.440 --> 0:06:08.719 you know, making trans kids make their lives a whole 0:06:08.720 --> 0:06:10.760 lot harder. Right, all of this kind of stuff is 0:06:10.800 --> 0:06:13.239 gonna be worse by this happening. So it is something 0:06:13.279 --> 0:06:17.760 definitely worth caring about. Yeah, it's worth caring about. And so the 0:06:48.160 --> 0:06:51.800 ultimate goal of all of this is to stop progress 0:06:51.839 --> 0:06:56.479 towards racial justice, to roll back gay rights, UM, to 0:06:56.680 --> 0:07:01.159 enshrine white supremacy using violence. And that's why, I that's 0:07:01.200 --> 0:07:03.839 why all of these different school board meanings, like the 0:07:04.040 --> 0:07:08.479 threat of violence from these people is a constant factor. UM. 0:07:08.520 --> 0:07:11.080 There's regular discussion of it. There's like, I mean, that's 0:07:11.080 --> 0:07:13.960 why the Proud Boys are showing up. Is to be 0:07:14.120 --> 0:07:17.320 a of like is to be a death squad, um, 0:07:17.400 --> 0:07:19.600 you know, a little precursor death squad. They're not quite 0:07:19.600 --> 0:07:22.920 willing to start start pulling triggers yet, but they want 0:07:22.960 --> 0:07:25.040 people to know that it's possible. They want to scare 0:07:25.080 --> 0:07:28.960 people away from getting involved in local politics unless they 0:07:29.080 --> 0:07:32.440 adhere to a very specific far right political ideas. It's 0:07:32.480 --> 0:07:34.160 working because a lot of these school boards are getting 0:07:34.200 --> 0:07:35.960 these school meanings are just getting shut down, like they 0:07:36.000 --> 0:07:38.400 just can't have them in person or sometimes not at 0:07:38.400 --> 0:07:40.200 all because they'll just they'll like zoom bam. Like it's 0:07:40.240 --> 0:07:43.080 not like they're just shutting down so they cannot take 0:07:43.120 --> 0:07:45.120 place or at school by members are afraid to go 0:07:45.160 --> 0:07:48.280 out in public because these people are are going to 0:07:48.400 --> 0:07:53.200 hurt them. Um. And this is like a lot of 0:07:53.200 --> 0:07:56.920 people involved in this are maybe not themselves like Proud 0:07:56.920 --> 0:07:58.800 Boys like they they're they're they're they're not super like 0:07:59.160 --> 0:08:03.080 their individual lee are more kind of regular Republicans in 0:08:03.120 --> 0:08:05.600 these states. But the reason why it gets so extreme 0:08:05.640 --> 0:08:08.720 and accelerate so quickly is mostly because of how these 0:08:08.800 --> 0:08:11.280 organizing efforts take place, and also because of stuff like 0:08:11.280 --> 0:08:12.960 Fox News and News Marx and on it and O 0:08:13.080 --> 0:08:15.240 A N like pushing people further right in the past 0:08:15.240 --> 0:08:18.320 few years, but like specifically the method of organizing on 0:08:18.360 --> 0:08:21.440 apps like Telegram and Facebook groups. This this is, this 0:08:21.480 --> 0:08:23.000 is the thing common on the Internet, but like it 0:08:23.400 --> 0:08:27.880 rewards accelerationism, it rewards the most extreme, takes those the 0:08:27.920 --> 0:08:30.040 ones to get shared the most. So even if you 0:08:30.080 --> 0:08:33.360 know this is just some mom and her forties who's 0:08:33.480 --> 0:08:37.199 not a proud boy by any means, she's she still 0:08:37.240 --> 0:08:40.240 poses a threat in this in this way because she's 0:08:40.640 --> 0:08:42.839 who boosting this same rhetoric and as part of these 0:08:42.840 --> 0:08:48.240 same organizing channels that are full of like actual fascists. Uh, 0:08:48.760 --> 0:08:51.839 there's a decent amount of very popular posts from very 0:08:51.840 --> 0:08:55.560 popular channels I pulled that talks about the Jews in 0:08:55.600 --> 0:08:57.439 the school boards and we we'll get to that kind 0:08:57.440 --> 0:09:02.440 of stuff shortly. Um So there, Robert, do you wanna 0:09:03.400 --> 0:09:08.680 start on the telegram with the whole the whole school 0:09:08.679 --> 0:09:11.199 board Telegram channel that is popped up by no means 0:09:11.280 --> 0:09:13.960 the most popular Telegram channel for organizing, but it is 0:09:14.080 --> 0:09:17.160 specifically dedicated to school boards because of how Telegram works. 0:09:17.200 --> 0:09:19.520 This channel gets shared around a lot in other much 0:09:19.559 --> 0:09:22.560 bigger channels. Yeah, and and just so you know, So 0:09:22.679 --> 0:09:27.199 the way Telegram works, if you're a decent person, um 0:09:27.240 --> 0:09:29.240 and you don't live in a country where Telegram is 0:09:29.240 --> 0:09:32.079 a legitimately good choice for you, there's some areas where 0:09:32.080 --> 0:09:34.880 it's perfectly normal social media network, but for the most 0:09:34.880 --> 0:09:37.920 part in the United States it's used by fascists and 0:09:37.960 --> 0:09:42.040 weirdos um. So if you're fortunate enough to not use Telegram, 0:09:42.040 --> 0:09:44.360 the way it works is you have open groups and 0:09:44.400 --> 0:09:48.079 closed groups. Open groups are anyone can view them, Uh, 0:09:48.120 --> 0:09:51.360 you don't expose yourself by looking at them, and people 0:09:51.600 --> 0:09:55.520 largely just kind of post images, memes, videos and then 0:09:55.600 --> 0:09:57.640 can comment on them. And a lot of what's posted 0:09:57.640 --> 0:10:00.880 in any given Telegram channel is shared from another Telegram channel. 0:10:01.160 --> 0:10:03.960 So for people like Garrison and I who research extremism, 0:10:03.960 --> 0:10:06.880 one of the uses of telegram is that by looking 0:10:06.920 --> 0:10:09.480 at what's being shared in one group from other groups, 0:10:09.480 --> 0:10:11.920 you can actually start to build networks and see, oh, 0:10:11.960 --> 0:10:15.439 there's affinity between these two groups. Because this group may 0:10:15.520 --> 0:10:18.760 claim that they're just concerned conservatives, but they're sharing all 0:10:18.800 --> 0:10:21.920 of this, all of this content from this far right 0:10:22.000 --> 0:10:24.320 you know Pepe group that's also sharing a lot of 0:10:24.360 --> 0:10:26.719 neo Nazi content, and you can see there's a lot 0:10:26.720 --> 0:10:29.280 of affinity between the other thing that happens is that 0:10:29.720 --> 0:10:31.920 these channels that are getting big and being you and 0:10:32.000 --> 0:10:33.720 you are being used for this kind of like right 0:10:33.720 --> 0:10:37.200 wing organizing who present themselves as more just like regular 0:10:37.240 --> 0:10:40.360 conservative channels. If you I've been in this channel for 0:10:40.400 --> 0:10:42.760 like years at this point, and this channel used to 0:10:42.800 --> 0:10:45.680 be a like proud Boy channel. They just change their name. 0:10:46.040 --> 0:10:48.480 Like It's like that happens all the time, where a 0:10:48.520 --> 0:10:50.840 lot of the big organizing channels used to be like 0:10:50.960 --> 0:10:54.400 openly violent organizing, like for different mobs to go beat 0:10:54.480 --> 0:10:59.040 up people, and now they've rebranded to make them appeal 0:10:59.160 --> 0:11:02.400 more to like regular Trump voters. Unfortunately, one of them is now a late 0:13:16.040 --> 0:13:19.320 thirties CNN jabbed zombie and has infected my grandkids with 0:13:19.360 --> 0:13:26.040 this inspiric experimental treatment.
