I can trace my 0:05:40.600 --> 0:05:42.839 family on my mother's side all the way back to 0:05:42.880 --> 0:05:46.560 the Whitney Plantation, which is now the Whitney Slave Museum 0:05:47.040 --> 0:05:51.440 in Saint John, the Baptist Parish, Louisiana. That particular plantation 0:05:51.520 --> 0:05:54.839 had some three hundred plus slaves. But the point of 0:05:54.839 --> 0:05:57.040 the matter is is that I think that there's energy 0:05:57.560 --> 0:05:59.799 in the house. We're gonna have to build the energy 0:05:59.839 --> 0:06:02.279 in the United States Senate. I think it's time to 0:06:02.400 --> 0:06:07.000 do this. I mean, we have to articulate 0:07:15.600 --> 0:07:18.480 that vision, which I think is a positive vision well 0:07:18.520 --> 0:07:22.360 at the same time helping people understand the predicate. The reason 0:11:03.360 --> 0:11:06.840 why I'm speaking up is clearly this is wrong. I went to school in the South, the 0:13:12.240 --> 0:13:14.480 elementary school, I went to, the middle school I went 0:13:14.520 --> 0:13:15.679 to in the high school I went to. I was 0:13:15.720 --> 0:13:17.559 one of the first African American students to go to 0:13:17.600 --> 0:13:21.040 all three of those schools. And I remember being indoctrinated 0:13:21.280 --> 0:13:24.840 with the lost Cause narrative, the idea that the South 0:13:25.240 --> 0:13:29.239 waged the Civil War for the principle of states rights 0:13:29.280 --> 0:13:31.400 and that it was a war against the Northern aggression, 0:13:31.640 --> 0:13:34.240 not that it was a war to defense slavery. So 0:13:34.559 --> 0:13:39.600 in many respects, the narratives that many have learned have 0:13:39.840 --> 0:13:44.080 contributed to, if you will, the racial injustice we see 0:13:44.080 --> 0:13:47.880 in public policy even to this very day. So I don't believe in white privilege, 0:13:53.000 --> 0:13:56.280 Asian privilege, Hispanning privilege, but there is parental privilege. To find out?
