So you fast forward 0:37:26.480 --> 0:37:30.359 one hundred some years later that using incarcerated people as 0:37:30.440 --> 0:37:34.600 workers and paying them pennies or nothing in many facilities, Um, 0:37:34.760 --> 0:37:38.319 it just goes back to their industry, the complex of 0:37:38.360 --> 0:37:42.040 an industry and businesses. And if we're talking about public safety, 0:37:43.560 --> 0:37:47.000 I believe rehabilitation achieves public safety. So when you release, 0:37:47.080 --> 0:37:49.520 there's six hundred thousand people come out every year out 0:37:49.520 --> 0:37:53.000 of our prisons nationally, six hundred thousand. And I worked. 0:37:53.120 --> 0:37:54.600 I'll give you an example. I didn't work for hand 0:37:54.640 --> 0:37:56.560 sanitizer anything I was. I just got I was released 0:37:56.640 --> 0:37:58.960 last year. But an example of one of my jobs 0:37:59.040 --> 0:38:00.960 was I worked in the kitchen. And I remember I 0:38:09.320 --> 0:38:12.279 was in a facility where I was given and where 0:38:12.600 --> 0:38:15.279 first first time in my in cars ration twelve years later, 0:38:15.320 --> 0:38:18.760 I was given an opportunity to join self help groups 0:38:18.760 --> 0:38:21.920 and programs and which I immediately got into. But one 0:38:21.960 --> 0:38:23.960 day I come back to my cell and April you 0:38:24.000 --> 0:38:26.399 know that I had a work assignment card on my 0:38:26.480 --> 0:38:28.719 top bunk on my bunk and I knew immediately what 0:38:28.760 --> 0:38:30.320 it was. I looked at him like, oh, they just 0:38:30.360 --> 0:38:34.160 assigned me to a job, which meant my job, which 0:38:34.200 --> 0:38:37.880 is eight cents an hour, is my priority, not my rehabilitation. 0:38:37.920 --> 0:38:40.319 So I had to leave my classes that I was 0:38:40.360 --> 0:38:44.719 taking for my childhood development, my childhood trauma, whatever it 0:38:44.800 --> 0:38:46.959 was that I was taking, I had to leave those 0:38:47.000 --> 0:38:52.640 because priority in prison is work.
