I mean, 0:01:30.040 --> 0:01:32.000 if you knew the time, you'd wait until the last 0:01:32.000 --> 0:01:33.800 minute and say, okay, now's my time. I still have 0:01:33.800 --> 0:01:34.679 a couple of days. 0:01:34.680 --> 0:01:36.160 Yeah, there's some things he wants us to do in 0:01:36.160 --> 0:01:36.720 the meantime. 0:01:36.720 --> 0:01:40.520 He does not only about the spreading of the gospel, 0:01:40.520 --> 0:01:44.640 but also living with the continual readiness for his return. 0:01:45.000 --> 0:01:47.920 Well, the message title puts the question this way. Thankfully, I had my gym 0:03:02.490 --> 0:03:05.290 bag in the back and his foot fit my shoes 0:03:05.290 --> 0:03:08.490 so he didn't have to walk in the church barefoot. 0:03:08.690 --> 0:03:11.450 But when we say we're ready, it doesn't always mean 0:03:11.450 --> 0:03:15.450 we're ready. When we say, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm ready. 0:03:15.930 --> 0:03:18.690 Many of us believe that we're more ready than we 0:03:18.690 --> 0:03:23.329 really are. And some of us here, I believe, sitting 0:03:23.570 --> 0:03:28.850 in your chair today, you are very unprepared for the 0:03:28.850 --> 0:03:34.530 coming of Jesus Christ. And so this passage is all 0:03:34.530 --> 0:03:39.130 about preparing us. And I want you to notice how 0:03:39.130 --> 0:03:42.850 Jesus starts this passage. I'm going to begin reading in 0:03:42.890 --> 0:03:49.970 verse 36 of Matthew chapter 24. Jesus says, but about 0:03:49.970 --> 0:03:54.650 the day or the hour, no one knows, not even 0:03:54.650 --> 0:03:59.610 the angels in heaven, nor the son, but only the father. 0:04:00.700 --> 0:04:03.260 As it was in the days of Noah. So will 0:04:03.260 --> 0:04:06.460 it be at the coming of the Son of Man? 0:04:07.020 --> 0:04:09.420 For in the days before the flood, people were eating 0:04:09.420 --> 0:04:12.820 and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the 0:04:12.820 --> 0:04:16.100 day that Noah entered the ark, and they knew nothing 0:04:16.100 --> 0:04:19.260 about what would happen until the flood came and took 0:04:19.260 --> 0:04:22.779 them all away. That is how it will be at 0:04:22.779 --> 0:04:26.820 the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will 0:04:26.820 --> 0:04:29.940 be in the field, one will be taken and the 0:04:29.940 --> 0:04:33.779 other left. Two women will be grinding at a hand mill. 0:04:34.180 --> 0:04:39.620 One will be taken and the other left. Therefore, keep watch, 0:04:40.260 --> 0:04:43.779 because you do not know on what day your Lord 0:04:43.779 --> 0:04:47.660 will come. But understand this. If the owner of the 0:04:47.660 --> 0:04:50.020 house had known at what time of the night the 0:04:50.020 --> 0:04:52.940 thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would 0:04:52.940 --> 0:04:57.140 not have let his house be broken into. So you 0:04:57.140 --> 0:05:02.619 also must be ready, because the Son of Man will 0:05:02.620 --> 0:05:07.300 come at an hour when you do not expect him. 0:05:10.060 --> 0:05:13.180 Word of the Lord. So here's what I want to 0:05:13.180 --> 0:05:14.620 talk to you about today. I want to talk to 0:05:14.620 --> 0:05:18.099 you about three attitudes that you need to put on 0:05:18.100 --> 0:05:21.860 in order to be ready. How do I prepare for 0:05:21.860 --> 0:05:25.099 the day called the coming of the Lord? I believe 0:05:25.100 --> 0:05:29.380 that there's three key attitudes that this passage speaks about 0:05:29.380 --> 0:05:32.140 in order to be prepared for that day, that none 0:05:32.140 --> 0:05:34.420 of us know the time or the hour. Let's start 0:05:34.420 --> 0:05:38.820 with that. In fact, in Matthew chapter 24, verse 36, 0:05:38.820 --> 0:05:42.620 it says, but about the day or the hour? Who knows? 0:05:44.300 --> 0:05:50.020 Say it out loud. Who knows? No one knows. So 0:05:50.020 --> 0:05:56.460 if no one knows. Stop guessing. So here's what I know. 0:05:56.900 --> 0:06:03.150 When I hear a prediction that in October of 2020, 0:06:04.510 --> 0:06:08.510 on the 12th, Jesus is coming again and it's in 0:06:08.510 --> 0:06:11.469 the billboards and someone is predicting it. Guess what? I 0:06:11.470 --> 0:06:14.510 know it's definitely not going to happen on that day 0:06:14.910 --> 0:06:18.270 because the Bible says no one knows, so if someone 0:06:18.270 --> 0:06:24.830 predicts it, it's absolutely wrong. So I hope that you 0:06:24.830 --> 0:06:28.350 are trained enough and educated enough in this church to 0:06:28.390 --> 0:06:32.870 know that if someone is predicting a time, a date, 0:06:32.910 --> 0:06:37.349 a year, a month, that you know absolutely that that 0:06:37.350 --> 0:06:41.910 person is a false prophet or someone that has very 0:06:41.910 --> 0:06:46.549 little Bible education and knowledge, because the Bible tells us 0:06:46.550 --> 0:06:52.589 that no one knows except for the father. The angels 0:06:52.589 --> 0:06:55.070 in heaven don't know it. So if someone says, well, 0:06:55.110 --> 0:06:59.350 an angel came and told me the day and the time, 0:06:59.470 --> 0:07:03.390 I'm going to say it wrong. The angels don't even know. 0:07:06.950 --> 0:07:10.230 In fact, it says something shocking. And it says the 0:07:10.230 --> 0:07:15.830 son who's the son that the son doesn't even know. 0:07:15.870 --> 0:07:19.310 Hold on a second. Wait a second. Now, this is 0:07:19.310 --> 0:07:22.590 a pretty amazing statement that the say that the son 0:07:22.590 --> 0:07:25.710 doesn't know because God is made up of God the Father, 0:07:25.750 --> 0:07:27.870 God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They are 0:07:27.870 --> 0:07:31.110 3 in 1. They've always existed as God the Father, son, 0:07:31.110 --> 0:07:34.110 and the Holy Spirit. They will exist into eternity past 0:07:34.110 --> 0:07:37.630 that way. Jesus is not a created being. He's always 0:07:37.630 --> 0:07:42.310 existed with the father. And so as the father is omniscient, 0:07:42.310 --> 0:07:44.910 so the son is omniscient. So how can the son, 0:07:44.910 --> 0:07:47.190 who knows all things, not know the day that he's 0:07:47.190 --> 0:07:57.550 coming back? I believe there's a strategy in it. The 0:07:57.550 --> 0:08:01.640 Bible tells us that God in the Old Testament, He 0:08:01.680 --> 0:08:04.920 throws our sins as far as the East is from 0:08:04.920 --> 0:08:10.320 the West. And he remembers them no more. Have you 0:08:10.320 --> 0:08:15.679 read that passage? I love it. You mean what God 0:08:15.680 --> 0:08:21.320 has forgiven you for? He doesn't. Next time around, bring 0:08:21.320 --> 0:08:26.600 it up again. He doesn't say. You know, three years ago, 0:08:27.080 --> 0:08:30.560 you fell and you blew it. And you come to 0:08:30.560 --> 0:08:33.000 him and say, Lord, could you forgive me again? And 0:08:33.040 --> 0:08:35.880 remember when I fell through yours? No. When did you fall? 0:08:37.080 --> 0:08:39.559 He remembers our sin no more. Does that mean that 0:08:39.559 --> 0:08:43.640 God has amnesia? Does that mean he has a faulty memory? 0:08:43.800 --> 0:08:46.959 Does that mean he doesn't know? No. It means he 0:08:46.960 --> 0:08:51.800 chooses not to remember. So if God the Son chooses 0:08:51.840 --> 0:08:54.600 not to look at the date, it's not because he 0:08:54.600 --> 0:08:58.040 doesn't can't discover the date or know the date. He 0:08:58.040 --> 0:09:01.640 chooses to block the date out. when my wife and 0:09:01.640 --> 0:09:04.600 I were having our first child. We didn't want to 0:09:04.640 --> 0:09:06.719 know if it was a boy or a girl. And 0:09:06.720 --> 0:09:10.520 we went into the the specialist that did the sonogram. 0:09:10.559 --> 0:09:13.080 They put all that gooky yuck on her belly and 0:09:13.120 --> 0:09:16.560 kind of moved it around, and they discovered whether it 0:09:16.559 --> 0:09:18.240 was a boy or a girl. But we said, don't 0:09:18.280 --> 0:09:23.120 tell us. And they had in an envelope the images 0:09:23.120 --> 0:09:27.720 that would dictate definitely boy or girl, but we chose 0:09:27.720 --> 0:09:31.040 not to open the envelope, not because we couldn't know, 0:09:31.040 --> 0:09:33.959 because we did not want to know. We had a 0:09:33.960 --> 0:09:38.200 strategy in it. We wanted to be surprised by it. 0:09:38.840 --> 0:09:43.200 The Son of Man has a strategy as well. Jesus 0:09:43.200 --> 0:09:47.120 is coming back, but it's so top secret. The day 0:09:47.120 --> 0:09:51.360 and the time. Because I believe the reason that God 0:09:51.360 --> 0:09:54.880 did not reveal the day and the time, specifically the hour, 0:09:54.920 --> 0:09:57.960 although the father knows when it's going to happen, is 0:09:57.960 --> 0:10:01.450 that it would be A productive for you and I 0:10:01.809 --> 0:10:06.970 to know the exact day, time, and hour of his coming. 0:10:07.210 --> 0:10:11.090 Come on, think about it for a second. If it 0:10:11.130 --> 0:10:16.090 were extremely clear when Jesus was coming back, and you 0:10:16.090 --> 0:10:19.689 know that you had five years before the coming of Christ, 0:10:20.050 --> 0:10:24.810 what would that make you do? Oh, I know some 0:10:24.809 --> 0:10:28.650 of you would say I got five. I don't have 0:10:28.650 --> 0:10:32.330 to get serious yet. I could still party. I could 0:10:32.330 --> 0:10:35.570 still do my thing because now I have four years. 0:10:35.570 --> 0:10:38.530 I still got four, now I got three. I don't 0:10:38.530 --> 0:10:41.210 have to get too serious now. Now I got to. Okay, 0:10:41.210 --> 0:10:43.170 I got one year. Now I got to start getting serious. 0:10:43.210 --> 0:10:45.210 Now I got to start going to church I got. 0:10:45.250 --> 0:10:50.050 Because if you knew the time, you would measure how 0:10:50.050 --> 0:10:53.170 well you're doing by how much time you have. And 0:10:53.170 --> 0:10:59.130 it would be counterproductive to your spiritual life if you 0:10:59.130 --> 0:11:02.650 don't know the time. You don't know the date. But 0:11:02.650 --> 0:11:06.969 Jesus has said, be ready because I could come at 0:11:06.970 --> 0:11:11.890 any moment, at any time. We historically call that the 0:11:11.929 --> 0:11:15.689 imminent return of Christ. That means that at any moment, 0:11:15.690 --> 0:11:20.690 any time, any day, Jesus could come again. I believe 0:11:20.690 --> 0:11:24.770 that God tells us that because he wants us to 0:11:24.809 --> 0:11:30.090 live our life in constant readiness for the coming again 0:11:30.410 --> 0:11:36.170 of His Son, Jesus Christ. So here are the three 0:11:36.210 --> 0:11:40.210 attitudes that keep you ready. If you're taking notes, I 0:11:40.210 --> 0:11:43.970 want you to write this down. Number one, you need 0:11:43.970 --> 0:11:48.250 to stay ready by living with an expectant and informed 0:11:48.290 --> 0:11:56.650 attitude about his imminent return. Expectant and informed. Expectant means 0:11:56.650 --> 0:12:01.020 that you you're ready. Like it could happen at any time. 0:12:01.380 --> 0:12:05.660 Informed means that you are not ignorant of the fact 0:12:05.660 --> 0:12:08.820 that Jesus is coming again. That you know about it. 0:12:08.820 --> 0:12:11.699 You know about the times. She may roll 0:13:37.900 --> 0:13:40.460 her eyes. You may think that she's not listening. You 0:13:40.460 --> 0:13:43.620 may think that her peers have much more influence than 0:13:43.620 --> 0:13:46.739 you do. But I want to say there's only one father. 0:13:47.260 --> 0:13:50.420 There's only one voice. You have more influence than what 0:13:50.420 --> 0:13:55.300 you know. So keep that bridge of relationship strong and 0:13:55.300 --> 0:14:00.350 just help her walk her through this difficult, challenging time. So will it be 0:15:46.120 --> 0:15:49.920 at the coming of the Son of Man? How was 0:15:49.920 --> 0:15:53.320 it in the days of Noah before the flood? Well, 0:15:53.320 --> 0:15:56.359 if you read in the book of Genesis you'll discover 0:15:56.360 --> 0:16:00.720 several things. Do you remember that Noah Up lived in 0:16:00.720 --> 0:16:14.360 a time in which the world had become extremely ungodly. Violence. Chaos. Dysfunction. 0:16:14.800 --> 0:16:19.800 Godlessness had increased. In fact, it had gotten so bad 0:16:19.800 --> 0:16:21.960 that as God looked at the world, it said he 0:16:21.960 --> 0:16:26.640 repented of making mankind. God looked at mankind, and his 0:16:26.640 --> 0:16:30.800 heart was sorry that he had made mankind, because so 0:16:30.800 --> 0:16:34.360 much of humanity had turned their back on God. But 0:16:34.360 --> 0:16:39.680 he found in Noah a righteous man. So most of 0:16:39.680 --> 0:16:46.400 society was godless. Some very few in society were godly. 0:16:47.200 --> 0:16:51.520 And by and large, most people did not believe that 0:16:51.520 --> 0:16:54.680 a flood was going to come, although most people were 0:16:54.680 --> 0:17:00.280 heavily affected by this flood. Notice what Jesus says. he says, 0:17:00.280 --> 0:17:04.399 for in the days before the flood, people were eating, drinking, marrying, 0:17:04.400 --> 0:17:07.879 and giving in marriage up to the day that Noah 0:17:07.920 --> 0:17:11.040 entered into the ark, and they knew nothing about what 0:17:11.040 --> 0:17:14.600 would happen until the flood came and took them away. 0:17:15.800 --> 0:17:19.080 That is how it will be at the coming of 0:17:19.080 --> 0:17:23.959 the Son of Man. Let's compare the days before the 0:17:23.960 --> 0:17:28.560 flood to the days before the coming of Jesus. Number one, 0:17:29.440 --> 0:17:32.399 look at this. God had told Noah that the flood 0:17:32.400 --> 0:17:35.479 was coming to build an ark. No one knew the 0:17:35.480 --> 0:17:39.040 flood was coming about to happen, but did not know 0:17:39.080 --> 0:17:42.199 the day or the hour. God had told Noah, I'm 0:17:42.240 --> 0:17:45.280 going to bring a destruction upon humankind that Will has 0:17:45.280 --> 0:17:49.239 not been seen since the beginning of time. Most of 0:17:49.240 --> 0:17:53.879 the people on earth will be destroyed. It's coming. Warn 0:17:53.880 --> 0:17:57.040 people about it. But you don't know when it's going 0:17:57.080 --> 0:18:00.610 to happen or exactly how it's going to happen. Imagine, Noah. 0:18:00.970 --> 0:18:04.250 God said, so build an ark. Do you know how 0:18:04.250 --> 0:18:08.330 big the ark was? About the size of a football field. 0:18:08.930 --> 0:18:13.930 Think about that.
