And as you might expect, 0:00:38.880 --> 0:00:41.360 the Apostle Paul in the book of acts in that chapter, 0:00:41.360 --> 0:00:45.239 he is in a storm. He was actually sailing for Rome. 0:00:45.479 --> 0:00:49.080 A storm came up and Paul was involved in a shipwreck. 0:00:49.280 --> 0:00:53.600 And ultimately it was through that shipwreck that many people 0:00:53.600 --> 0:00:56.680 around Paul got to see God at work in his life. 0:00:56.680 --> 0:01:01.280 And ultimately many of them were saved, not just physically, 0:01:01.520 --> 0:01:06.280 but saves spiritually as well. And that principle holds true 0:01:06.400 --> 0:01:09.800 in our lives today. It's very often in the storms 0:01:09.800 --> 0:01:13.240 of life where we feel like our plans and what 0:01:13.240 --> 0:01:17.319 we thought was going to happen gets absolutely shipwrecked, that 0:01:17.319 --> 0:01:21.280 we see God show up. You've probably known people I 0:01:21.280 --> 0:01:24.360 know I certainly have, who have said it was in 0:01:24.360 --> 0:01:28.479 this moment of pain and desperation that I recognized my 0:01:28.480 --> 0:01:31.320 need for God. I cried out to him and I 0:01:31.319 --> 0:01:35.480 began a personal relationship with Jesus because of that storm. 0:01:36.000 --> 0:01:38.480 For others who maybe have been believers for some time, 0:01:38.680 --> 0:01:42.679 they say it was in that storm that I didn't want, 0:01:42.720 --> 0:01:46.800 but God allowed that God really got Ahold of my heart, 0:01:47.080 --> 0:01:50.680 that he really grew my relationship with him. And I 0:01:50.720 --> 0:01:55.120 am changed spiritually. I grew so much in my spiritual 0:01:55.120 --> 0:01:58.320 maturity in that storm that I never want to go 0:01:58.320 --> 0:02:00.760 through that again. But I can look back and say, 0:02:00.840 --> 0:02:03.560 God used that tremendously in my life, and I'm so 0:02:03.560 --> 0:02:08.360 glad of what I've learned in that storm. Here is Pastor Ford. 0:02:29.680 --> 0:02:32.280 Some of you may remember what happened. Uh, I guess 0:02:32.280 --> 0:02:35.280 it was about 10 or 11 years ago. There was 0:02:35.280 --> 0:02:40.200 an infestation of mosquitoes in Louisiana. As a matter of fact, 0:02:40.200 --> 0:02:47.320 it was epidemic. They hadn't seen that many in years. Um, and, uh, 0:02:47.680 --> 0:02:52.320 there was great concern, uh, because, uh, they carried disease 0:02:52.320 --> 0:02:55.000 and all that kind of stuff. And then to add 0:02:55.000 --> 0:02:59.960 injury to insult, they were expecting a hurricane. And so 0:02:59.960 --> 0:03:05.030 they're dealing with this infestation of mosquitoes. Now there's a 0:03:05.030 --> 0:03:11.750 hurricane coming. Injury to insult. But something that they thought 0:03:11.750 --> 0:03:17.790 was going to be devastating, uh, turned out to their delight. Uh, 0:03:17.790 --> 0:03:23.190 because when the storm came, they had mosquitoes. When the 0:03:23.190 --> 0:03:28.510 storm left, the mosquitoes were gone. Uh, so the thing 0:03:28.510 --> 0:03:31.190 that they feared turned out to be the thing to 0:03:31.230 --> 0:03:36.190 deliver them. So their deliverance was in their storm. So 0:03:36.190 --> 0:03:40.710 you missed it already? Their deliverance was in their storm. 0:03:41.190 --> 0:03:46.270 In other words, God has a divine design for the 0:03:46.270 --> 0:03:49.430 storms of our life. And I say it all the time, 0:03:49.430 --> 0:03:52.950 at infinitum, ad nauseam, that what we actually see as 0:03:53.230 --> 0:03:58.589 setbacks may be set ups for God to work in 0:03:58.590 --> 0:04:01.830 our lives. Uh, so we started this passage a couple 0:04:01.830 --> 0:04:04.550 of weeks ago, and we said that when you look 0:04:04.590 --> 0:04:09.950 at what God is doing, this is a cogent, concise 0:04:10.110 --> 0:04:16.190 passage that gives us a panorama of what God does 0:04:17.230 --> 0:04:21.550 with us, to us, for us, through every storm of life. 0:04:22.150 --> 0:04:24.710 So it really doesn't matter. Uh, now there's some that 0:04:24.710 --> 0:04:26.790 aren't in here, but at least we can do with 0:04:26.790 --> 0:04:29.870 the ones that are in here. So they accomplish six things. 0:04:29.870 --> 0:04:33.909 Walk with me. Uh. Real quick. Uh, storms are given 0:04:33.910 --> 0:04:41.550 to inspect us. That's verses nine through 13. Everybody follow along. Alright. Secondly, 0:04:41.550 --> 0:04:46.830 storms in this passage are given to correct us 14 0:04:46.870 --> 0:04:52.029 through 20 storms. Third of all are given to protect 0:04:52.029 --> 0:04:58.150 us 21 through 25, and storms are given verses 26 0:04:58.190 --> 0:05:05.270 through 32 to direct US 33 through 41. Storms are 0:05:05.270 --> 0:05:11.070 given to perfect us. And then finally 42 through 44 0:05:11.470 --> 0:05:16.029 storms are given to resurrect us. And so God wants 0:05:16.029 --> 0:05:19.390 to do these things. Uh, he wants to, first of all, 0:05:19.390 --> 0:05:23.790 inspect us. That when you look at verses nine through 13, 0:05:23.790 --> 0:05:29.750 here's what you find. God uses the test to inspect. 0:05:30.230 --> 0:05:36.750 In other words, God tests your faith with problems. What 0:05:36.750 --> 0:05:42.470 do your problems reveal about you? Because they always reveal 0:05:42.670 --> 0:05:46.150 something about you. As if the old adage is true. 0:05:46.310 --> 0:05:49.390 Christians are like tea bags. If you want to know 0:05:49.390 --> 0:05:52.750 what's really in a Christian, drop them in some hot 0:05:52.790 --> 0:05:55.870 water and then you're going to begin to find out 0:05:55.870 --> 0:05:59.630 if they have anything that God has put in them 0:05:59.630 --> 0:06:04.390 that will come out and flavor that hot water and 0:06:04.390 --> 0:06:07.990 take over the taste and the control where you see 0:06:07.990 --> 0:06:12.710 the analogy anyway. And so that's what he wants to do. So. 0:06:12.710 --> 0:06:15.870 So what did he test walk through with me. Verse 0:06:15.870 --> 0:06:20.589 nine that it tested uh, they had a failure to 0:06:20.630 --> 0:06:26.390 wait uh, that your problems test your patience. So God 0:06:26.430 --> 0:06:30.349 told them in verse nine, don't go. They went anyway. Why? 0:06:30.390 --> 0:06:33.669 Because we're in a hurry. We want it right now. 0:06:34.430 --> 0:06:36.430 I mean, God, give me a husband. Give me a 0:06:36.430 --> 0:06:39.110 wife now! And if you don't, we're going to go 0:06:39.110 --> 0:06:43.870 get a Hagar and have ourself a Ishmael. And so 0:06:43.870 --> 0:06:46.230 what do we do? You know, I heard a phrase. 0:06:46.230 --> 0:06:48.830 It wasn't mine. I wish it was because I loved it. 0:06:48.830 --> 0:06:52.109 When I heard it, I wrote it down in my computer. 0:06:52.110 --> 0:06:57.270 Of my mind, there are no shortcuts on the highway 0:06:57.270 --> 0:07:02.190 to holiness. No shortcuts. That's one of the things I 0:07:02.190 --> 0:07:04.830 had to deal with, Deke, because I. Uh, you you saw, uh, that, uh, 0:07:19.510 --> 0:07:22.230 God was inspecting their faith. They didn't have any because 0:07:22.270 --> 0:07:28.070 ten and 11, they made foolish decisions. Then in verse 12, 0:07:28.190 --> 0:07:31.710 they're following the crowd. So there's a vote. Should we 0:07:31.710 --> 0:07:37.190 listen to God? And God lost 273 to 3. And 0:07:37.190 --> 0:07:41.990 then we saw fair weather circumstances. That is verse 13 0:07:42.270 --> 0:07:46.830 of things begin to look like God wasn't telling the truth. 0:07:47.550 --> 0:07:50.110 I need to let you know. Every open door is 0:07:50.110 --> 0:07:56.350 not from God. Amen. Amen. Yeah. See, here's the problem. 0:07:56.350 --> 0:07:58.910 And let me summarize it and move on. We think 0:07:58.910 --> 0:08:04.390 we can make foolish decisions and still be blessed. Some 0:08:04.390 --> 0:08:09.710 shipwrecks are our own fault. Now let's move on. In 0:08:09.710 --> 0:08:15.430 14 through 20, he says, storms are given to correct us. 0:08:15.430 --> 0:08:17.350 Let me read a few of these verses. It says. 0:08:17.390 --> 0:08:20.630 But not long after there arose against it a tempest 0:08:20.630 --> 0:08:25.390 wind called euroclydon. And when the ship was caught and 0:08:25.390 --> 0:08:28.230 could not bear into the wind, we let her drive. 0:08:28.390 --> 0:08:32.069 And running unto a certain island, which is called Clauda, 0:08:32.070 --> 0:08:34.790 we had much work to come by the boat, which, 0:08:34.790 --> 0:08:37.870 when they had taken up, they used helps under-girding the ship, 0:08:37.870 --> 0:08:41.910 and fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands. Strike sail, 0:08:41.910 --> 0:08:45.270 and so were driven, and we be exceedingly tossed with 0:08:45.270 --> 0:08:50.390 a tempest. The next day they lighten the ship, and 0:08:50.390 --> 0:08:52.949 the third day we cast out our own hands, the 0:08:52.990 --> 0:08:56.189 tackling of the ship. And when neither sun nor stars 0:08:56.230 --> 0:08:59.790 in many day appeared. And no small tempest lay on 0:08:59.790 --> 0:09:03.179 us all. Hope that we should be saved was then 0:09:03.179 --> 0:09:09.179 taken away. Some storms are designed to correct us. In 0:09:09.179 --> 0:09:12.059 other words, what's going on? Look at the text. This 0:09:12.059 --> 0:09:17.620 storm comes up sudden and unexpected. And that's the way 0:09:17.660 --> 0:09:22.339 storms come. And it starts off with soft winds that 0:09:22.340 --> 0:09:29.260 turn into storm winds. Don't waste this word because sometimes 0:09:29.700 --> 0:09:34.620 it starts off real good at first when we're not 0:09:34.620 --> 0:09:38.339 doing what God has called us to do. But how 0:09:38.340 --> 0:09:41.380 many know? All you gotta do is just wait a 0:09:41.380 --> 0:09:45.580 little bit that it always catches up with us, that 0:09:45.580 --> 0:09:48.380 we can be sure our sins will find us out, 0:09:48.740 --> 0:09:50.980 that God said, this is how we are to do it. 0:09:50.980 --> 0:09:53.940 This is how we do it. As a matter of fact, 0:09:53.940 --> 0:09:57.740 look at it because it calls it a tempest, a typhoon, 0:09:57.980 --> 0:10:03.300 and it gives it a name Euroclydon gave the storm 0:10:03.700 --> 0:10:16.179 a name. What's the name of your storm? Husband. Wife. Boss. Ministry. Finances. 0:10:16.860 --> 0:10:21.300 Everybody say. Yeah, yeah, that's. That's my storm. Here's what 0:10:21.300 --> 0:10:23.460 I want you to see. Uh, that when we talk 0:10:23.500 --> 0:10:26.459 about storms, he names them. I believe it's because the 0:10:26.460 --> 0:10:31.220 identification of the problem is the first step necessary to 0:10:31.340 --> 0:10:39.980 resolving the problem. Note something. They name the source of 0:10:39.980 --> 0:10:44.740 the storm, not the agent. I just thought I'd bring 0:10:44.740 --> 0:10:47.140 that out because I. I looked at it, the source, 0:10:47.140 --> 0:10:50.580 not the symptom. And see the winds and the waves. Uh, 0:10:50.620 --> 0:10:55.020 had a source. Euroclydon. And the word of the Lord came to 0:12:05.420 --> 0:12:09.780 Jonah and said, Go to Nineveh, that great city, and 0:12:09.780 --> 0:12:14.380 preach against it. What did Jonah do? Jonah said, Hades, no, 0:12:14.420 --> 0:12:20.220 I won't go. So Jonah went down and went down 0:12:20.220 --> 0:12:22.860 and went down and went down. That's what it says. 0:12:22.860 --> 0:12:25.540 He went down and then down and then down, and 0:12:25.540 --> 0:12:29.099 then down into a ship. Everybody wants to do what's convenient and 0:15:37.010 --> 0:15:40.690 God hasn't called us to convenience. He said that that 0:15:40.690 --> 0:15:45.170 you are to follow him. Pick up your cross daily 0:15:45.370 --> 0:15:50.810 and follow me. That's what Jesus said. Cross isn't something 0:15:50.810 --> 0:15:56.130 you wear around your neck or your ear. Cross goes 0:15:56.130 --> 0:15:59.370 on your back. Anybody that saw anybody carrying a cross, 0:15:59.370 --> 0:16:02.250 guess what? They knew that person getting ready to die. 0:16:04.770 --> 0:16:07.450 And so here it is. Now God says, look, I 0:16:07.490 --> 0:16:10.650 told you, don't do this. His name has been changed to Israel. 0:17:10.450 --> 0:17:13.010 And God says, okay, go back where I first met 0:17:13.010 --> 0:17:18.169 you in Genesis 28. What's that? That's Bethel, house of God. 0:17:18.570 --> 0:17:21.170 Where does he go? She came. Where is that? A 0:17:21.170 --> 0:17:25.010 little over halfway. Why did he stop there? Because there 0:17:25.010 --> 0:17:29.490 was prosperity there. He could see that. He couldn't see 0:17:29.490 --> 0:17:33.330 where God was taking him.
