Well, one of the 0:01:29.840 --> 0:01:39.040 greatest fears that we have. Is to stand up in public. 0:01:43.720 --> 0:01:49.680 You want to get someone nervous? Most people. Just. Then suddenly you start thinking, man, everybody's 0:02:46.610 --> 0:02:51.290 going to be fixated on my pimple. And that little 0:02:51.290 --> 0:02:53.369 pimple that you covered up with makeup, suddenly you think 0:02:53.370 --> 0:02:58.130 it's a volcano? Everybody's going to be looking, but they're 0:02:58.130 --> 0:02:59.690 not even going to look at my eyes when they 0:02:59.690 --> 0:03:01.050 talk to me. They're just going to look down at 0:03:01.050 --> 0:03:03.770 the pimple on my chin. Come on. Is that not 0:03:03.770 --> 0:03:10.770 the way we think? Because there's something about all of 0:03:10.770 --> 0:03:13.329 us that we know. We're broken. We know we're not perfect. 0:03:13.330 --> 0:03:15.810 We know we have issues. And when we stand in 0:03:15.810 --> 0:03:18.850 front of other people, we think that everybody's looking at 0:03:18.850 --> 0:03:28.410 our issues. This woman imagined she had a definite physical issue, 0:03:28.450 --> 0:03:33.010 a severe curvature of the spine. And so to ask 0:03:33.010 --> 0:03:36.410 her to come forward in front of the crowd, she 0:03:36.410 --> 0:03:41.130 knew that everybody's eyes would be on her. I think 0:03:41.130 --> 0:03:44.010 that she was probably sitting somewhere in the back and 0:03:44.010 --> 0:03:46.970 probably left early, because she didn't want people to look 0:03:46.970 --> 0:03:50.690 at her, ask about her, or little children whisper at her. 0:03:50.690 --> 0:03:53.250 She was the kind of woman that mothers would say, 0:03:53.250 --> 0:03:56.690 stop staring, son. Stop, stop. Mom, why is she like this? No. 0:03:56.690 --> 0:04:02.860 Not now. And she had to take this hard step 0:04:02.860 --> 0:04:08.940 to come forward. Jesus saw her and he called her forward. 0:04:08.940 --> 0:04:12.780 Do you notice those words? He called her forward not 0:04:12.780 --> 0:04:18.460 just to himself, but he called her forward. And the 0:04:18.460 --> 0:04:21.860 moment she stood up, she knew that everybody's eyes would 0:04:21.860 --> 0:04:27.460 be on her. She knew that her deformity would be evident. 0:04:28.140 --> 0:04:30.860 She knew that people would know that she had a problem. 0:04:31.420 --> 0:04:34.739 She knew that people would be focused on the fact 0:04:34.740 --> 0:04:38.140 that she was curved over, that she was not normal, 0:04:38.140 --> 0:04:40.659 that she was deformed, that she was stuck, that she 0:04:40.660 --> 0:04:45.380 was well, she she had flaws and issues in her life. 0:04:46.820 --> 0:04:51.340 And so many of us struggle with that in our 0:04:51.339 --> 0:04:55.300 life because, you know, deep inside, well, you know, the 0:04:55.300 --> 0:05:02.220 ugliness of your own soul. You know your issues. And 0:05:02.220 --> 0:05:08.219 when Jesus calls us forward, it's a hard step to 0:05:08.260 --> 0:05:12.380 come to the father and to admit before other people 0:05:12.380 --> 0:05:16.700 that we have issues that we need God's hand to touch. 0:05:19.540 --> 0:05:23.180 And so it says in he he called her forward. 0:05:23.180 --> 0:05:26.100 I love what it says in revelation chapter three, verse 20. 0:05:26.140 --> 0:05:28.220 Here I am. When Elijah was 0:05:54.060 --> 0:05:59.180 in the cave in depression, the Spirit of God calls 0:05:59.180 --> 0:06:01.469 him out of the cave. Come out of the cave. 0:06:02.430 --> 0:06:07.750 You don't belong there. When Lazarus was in the grave, 0:06:08.630 --> 0:06:11.310 Jesus spoke to Lazarus and he said, come out of 0:06:11.310 --> 0:06:15.670 the grave. He didn't belong there. When Zacchaeus was in 0:06:15.670 --> 0:06:20.310 the tree, God said, come down from there. You don't 0:06:20.310 --> 0:06:26.150 belong there. You know Jesus, God is always calling us 0:06:26.150 --> 0:06:29.110 out of where we don't belong, calling us out of 0:06:29.110 --> 0:06:32.870 our place, of being stuck. His voice says, you don't 0:06:32.870 --> 0:06:38.550 belong there. Come on out. Step out. And the more 0:06:38.550 --> 0:06:40.549 you hear the voice of God, the more you step 0:06:40.550 --> 0:06:44.390 into those places that you need to step into. And 0:06:44.390 --> 0:06:46.510 we hear his voice. And you say, you're stuck. Now 0:06:46.510 --> 0:06:50.070 step out. Step out in faith. Step out in. So many of you here have been doing that. 0:07:07.150 --> 0:07:11.750 And I, sister, this morning tell me, after 25 years, 0:07:12.270 --> 0:07:21.350 she just got married. Right, a long time. But she 0:07:21.350 --> 0:07:24.430 knew what she needed to do. She stepped out and said, okay, 0:07:24.430 --> 0:07:27.830 I'm done with this. I need to do what's right. 0:07:28.990 --> 0:07:32.550 And here's the thing. I believe the power of God 0:07:32.550 --> 0:07:36.110 calls us to take those those tough steps in response 0:07:36.110 --> 0:07:38.710 to him. You're never going to break out of your 0:07:38.710 --> 0:07:42.710 place of stuckness unless you take the hard steps. What 0:07:42.830 --> 0:07:46.190 what many what keeps most of us stuck is our 0:07:46.190 --> 0:07:50.750 unwillingness to go to the hard places. Our unwillingness to 0:07:50.830 --> 0:07:55.590 face the difficulty, our unwillingness to go to those places 0:07:55.590 --> 0:07:59.030 that we know are difficult. Someone that has an addiction. 0:07:59.190 --> 0:08:02.360 They know what needs to happen, but they they refuse 0:08:02.360 --> 0:08:04.640 to go to the place of having to deal with 0:08:04.640 --> 0:08:08.520 their addiction. Someone that has to make things right with 0:08:08.520 --> 0:08:11.480 someone else and forgive someone. It's so hard to go 0:08:11.480 --> 0:08:14.640 to that place of pain and release someone that needs 0:08:14.640 --> 0:08:17.240 help in their spiritual life. It's so hard to say, 0:08:17.240 --> 0:08:20.760 I repent, oh God, I need you. Come Lord, and 0:08:20.760 --> 0:08:25.160 change my life. And so oftentimes we stay stuck because 0:08:25.160 --> 0:08:27.800 we know that if we're going to get unstuck, it 0:08:27.840 --> 0:08:34.760 requires some hard steps in our life. Number four, the 0:08:34.760 --> 0:08:37.480 power of God will lead you to places where your 0:08:37.480 --> 0:08:41.640 own self effort could never take you. You see, I 0:08:41.640 --> 0:08:45.600 believe that this woman tried to straighten up hundreds of times, 0:08:45.600 --> 0:08:49.679 maybe thousands of times, but in her own strength, she 0:08:49.679 --> 0:08:53.640 couldn't do that. You don't think this woman would grab 0:08:53.640 --> 0:08:57.680 a table and try to straighten her back out? You 0:08:57.679 --> 0:09:00.560 don't think this woman would try to lay straight on 0:09:00.559 --> 0:09:02.120 the back and just say, well, I'm going to try 0:09:02.120 --> 0:09:05.319 to walk as straight as I can, only to go 0:09:05.320 --> 0:09:12.040 back to her place of deformity. She had tried so 0:09:12.040 --> 0:09:15.240 many times in her in her own self effort to 0:09:15.280 --> 0:09:20.520 change herself, only to fall back over and over and 0:09:20.520 --> 0:09:26.920 over again. But finally, something changes because she meets Jesus. 0:09:28.040 --> 0:09:30.880 Some of us need to understand that we need a 0:09:30.880 --> 0:09:33.840 power greater than ourselves to take us out of our 0:09:33.840 --> 0:09:38.280 place of bondage, that we need a power that's greater 0:09:38.280 --> 0:09:40.880 than us. Because in our own self effort and strength, 0:09:40.880 --> 0:09:44.520 we cannot break out of these places that we've tried 0:09:44.520 --> 0:09:47.839 for so long. We need a power that's greater. I'm sure the 0:14:23.270 --> 0:14:26.150 whole crowd held their breath as they watched this woman. 0:14:26.150 --> 0:14:28.550 I'm sure the little kid was out there seeing this 0:14:28.550 --> 0:14:32.390 woman again, and everybody watched. And when Jesus extended his hands, 0:14:32.390 --> 0:14:36.710 he touched this woman. He said, woman, you are free 0:14:36.710 --> 0:14:41.750 from your infirmity. He put his hands on her. And 0:14:41.750 --> 0:14:46.870 the Bible says that immediately, not progressively, that immediately. She 0:14:46.870 --> 0:14:51.110 straightened up. For the first time in 18 years, this woman, 0:14:51.110 --> 0:14:54.030 because of the touch of God, was able to straighten up. 0:14:54.030 --> 0:14:56.950 And for the first time, the first eyes that met 0:14:56.990 --> 0:14:59.830 her eyes were the eyes of her Savior Jesus. The Bible says, and she praised God. 0:15:11.520 --> 0:15:13.200 Now I want you to notice that this is written 0:15:13.200 --> 0:15:15.280 in the. If you look into the Greek. This is 0:15:15.280 --> 0:15:19.280 written in the perfect tense, which means that it is. 0:15:19.320 --> 0:15:22.200 It took place in the past, but it continues to 0:15:22.240 --> 0:15:25.920 have effect on the present. That's the perfect. The perfect 0:15:25.960 --> 0:15:29.120 tense in the Greek. In other words, you're. You were 0:15:29.240 --> 0:15:33.760 free and are set free from your infirmities. You were 0:15:33.760 --> 0:15:38.040 set free and you continued to be set free. Because 0:15:38.040 --> 0:15:40.120 I believe that when God sets us free, he sets 0:15:40.120 --> 0:15:42.400 us free to stay free. Now here's what I want 0:15:42.400 --> 0:15:45.000 you to know. Listen to me. Well, this is really important. 0:15:46.200 --> 0:15:48.680 I believe the power of God can set anybody free 0:15:48.680 --> 0:15:51.480 from whatever they're stuck in. But I believe that also 0:15:51.480 --> 0:15:54.240 we have to fight to stay in our place of freedom, 0:15:55.080 --> 0:15:57.280 that we have to maintain the freedom that God has 0:15:57.280 --> 0:16:00.840 called us to, because there's always a call to the past. 0:16:00.880 --> 0:16:03.760 Whatever your weakness has been in the past, the Yemeni, 0:16:03.800 --> 0:16:06.080 the enemy, will use it to try to take you 0:16:06.080 --> 0:16:10.520 back there. But listen, that 0:16:16.040 --> 0:16:19.560 voice will always call you back. There'll always be the 0:16:19.560 --> 0:16:21.640 voice of the past. They'll say, well, come back. Don't 0:16:21.640 --> 0:16:25.240 you want me anymore? I know so many people in 0:16:25.240 --> 0:16:28.160 this congregation that have been set free from alcoholism and 0:16:28.160 --> 0:16:30.880 drug addiction. But listen, there's always a voice in the 0:16:30.880 --> 0:16:34.320 back of your head when when you're down, when you're out, 0:16:34.320 --> 0:16:36.840 when things are going rough, that that voice is always 0:16:36.840 --> 0:16:39.320 going to say, hey, how about come on, don't you 0:16:39.320 --> 0:16:44.280 want just a sip? Don't you want to feel good again? 0:16:46.960 --> 0:16:49.720 Every time the chains are broken, they will call from 0:16:49.720 --> 0:16:52.480 the past to try to lure us back into whatever 0:16:52.480 --> 0:16:56.400 it was that kept us bound. And God can set 0:16:56.400 --> 0:16:59.520 us free. But it's our responsibility to walk in the 0:16:59.640 --> 0:17:03.120 freedom that God has called us to. And lastly, number 0:17:03.120 --> 0:17:07.000 five and I close with this, I see some people 0:17:08.160 --> 0:17:13.200 are more comfortable with an old problem than with a 0:17:13.200 --> 0:17:21.120 new solution. So expect pushback. This woman is set free. 0:17:21.440 --> 0:17:24.160 She's in the middle of religious people. She's finally set free. 0:17:24.160 --> 0:17:28.080 And look at what verse 14 says. Verse 14 says, 0:17:28.119 --> 0:17:33.719 indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue 0:17:33.720 --> 0:17:37.119 leader said to the people, there are six days for work, 0:17:37.119 --> 0:17:39.720 so come and be healed on those days and not 0:17:39.800 --> 0:17:44.320 on the Sabbath. Come on. You know, there's some people 0:17:44.320 --> 0:17:47.600 around you that don't want you to change. Do you 0:17:47.600 --> 0:17:52.360 know that these were religious people, and they were upset 0:17:52.359 --> 0:17:54.920 that Jesus healed on the Sabbath? And they basically said, 0:17:54.920 --> 0:17:56.800 if you want to be healed, come on. Any. Don't 0:17:56.800 --> 0:18:01.170 come on the Sabbath to be healed. There are six 0:18:01.170 --> 0:18:05.690 other days to be healed. Some people get extreme in 0:18:05.690 --> 0:18:09.290 legalism and they don't look for the heart of God. 0:18:09.290 --> 0:18:12.010 They just look because they're not comfortable with change. Let 0:18:12.010 --> 0:18:14.650 me tell you something. I believe that some people don't 0:18:14.650 --> 0:18:17.730 want you to change because some people are more used 0:18:17.730 --> 0:18:20.250 to they they are more comfortable with you with a 0:18:20.250 --> 0:18:24.209 problem than you setting free. Some people are used to 0:18:24.250 --> 0:18:27.250 looking down at you.
