We 0:01:54.160 --> 0:01:56.840 had gone to visit my father in law, and he 0:01:56.840 --> 0:01:59.919 lived downtown and was in a condo, and his condo 0:01:59.960 --> 0:02:02.290 happened to have a swimming pool. So he said, why 0:02:02.290 --> 0:02:05.450 don't you just have the kids swim in the swimming pool? 0:02:05.450 --> 0:02:08.610 And so I was tired that Sunday, preached a couple 0:02:08.650 --> 0:02:11.210 of times. And so I sat on the side of 0:02:11.210 --> 0:02:16.130 the swimming pool outside, fully clothed, reading the newspaper and 0:02:16.130 --> 0:02:19.290 my children, my two oldest jumped in, and Grant, who 0:02:19.290 --> 0:02:21.930 was only about maybe two years old. He was on 0:02:21.930 --> 0:02:24.250 the steps and I told him, don't go in too 0:02:24.250 --> 0:02:27.850 far because it can be dangerous. It's over your head. 0:02:27.850 --> 0:02:30.330 And so I was watching them reading the paper, looking 0:02:30.330 --> 0:02:34.889 up and watching them, got engrossed in an article. And I want you to take your 0:04:34.740 --> 0:04:41.500 Bibles and turn to Ephesians chapter six, Ephesians chapter six. 0:04:43.300 --> 0:04:45.339 If you at all are trying to raise a family 0:04:45.339 --> 0:04:48.500 in this generation, you know that we live in a crazy, 0:04:48.500 --> 0:04:54.180 crazy culture. And to try to keep the family together, 0:04:55.420 --> 0:04:58.100 to try to keep the integrity of the family together 0:04:58.140 --> 0:05:02.299 is a challenge. There are Our forces pulling our families apart. 0:05:02.300 --> 0:05:09.620 Left and right families are disintegrating all around us. Many 0:05:09.620 --> 0:05:14.620 families are struggling to stay together, children struggling to connect 0:05:14.620 --> 0:05:19.180 with their parents, parents struggling to stay together in their marriage, 0:05:19.580 --> 0:05:23.020 spouses that are at each other's throats, in-laws that can't 0:05:23.020 --> 0:05:26.020 get along all the time. There is extreme pressure on 0:05:26.060 --> 0:05:30.779 families together to stay together in this day and age. 0:05:30.779 --> 0:05:32.340 And here's what I've learned. I want you to write 0:05:32.339 --> 0:05:35.420 this principle down. First of all, write this down if 0:05:35.420 --> 0:05:42.060 you're taking notes. I've discovered this lesson that if you 0:05:42.060 --> 0:05:47.580 align yourself with God, alignment with God and His design 0:05:47.900 --> 0:05:54.219 positions you for your assignment. In other words, you have 0:05:54.220 --> 0:05:59.020 to come into alignment with God's plan and his design 0:05:59.300 --> 0:06:04.550 in order to be able to embrace your divine assignment. 0:06:05.830 --> 0:06:07.110 As some of you are looking at me like you 0:06:07.110 --> 0:06:08.430 don't know what I'm talking about. Alignment positions you for 0:06:13.630 --> 0:06:18.989 your assignment. Go ahead. Alignment positions you for your assignment. 0:06:19.270 --> 0:06:23.630 In other words, if you are a father today, you 0:06:23.630 --> 0:06:26.470 have to align yourself with what it means to be 0:06:26.470 --> 0:06:29.430 a father according to the Word of God. And when 0:06:29.430 --> 0:06:33.869 you align yourself with God's plan for fatherhood, it releases 0:06:33.870 --> 0:06:38.670 you to your divine assignment and the greatest influence possible 0:06:38.670 --> 0:06:44.430 in your life. If you are misaligned, then you will 0:06:44.430 --> 0:06:48.150 also if you don't align yourself right, if you're misaligned, 0:06:48.190 --> 0:06:50.870 you will miss your assignment. So I want 0:07:23.150 --> 0:07:25.670 you to turn your Bible in your Bibles to Ephesians 0:07:25.670 --> 0:07:30.470 chapter six, because I see in this passage really two 0:07:30.510 --> 0:07:34.510 battlefronts that we need to engage in if we're going 0:07:34.550 --> 0:07:37.510 to fight for the destiny and future of our families. 0:07:37.790 --> 0:07:43.390 Ephesians chapter six, verse one says, children, obey your parents 0:07:44.110 --> 0:07:49.350 in the Lord, for this is right. I tried to 0:07:49.350 --> 0:07:52.950 drill this verse into my children before they could even walk. 0:07:55.870 --> 0:07:59.470 Honor your father and your mother, which is the first 0:07:59.470 --> 0:08:03.880 commandment with a promise, so that it may go well 0:08:03.880 --> 0:08:07.240 with you, and that you may enjoy a long life 0:08:07.240 --> 0:08:13.760 on earth. Fathers, do not exasperate your children. Instead, bring 0:08:13.760 --> 0:08:17.840 them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. 0:08:18.480 --> 0:08:21.720 Word of the Lord. There are two battlefronts that you 0:08:21.720 --> 0:08:24.120 are going to face if you are fighting for the 0:08:24.120 --> 0:08:29.640 future of your family. Battlefront number one is the battlefront 0:08:29.640 --> 0:08:35.320 of the heart. Notice what it says. It says to children, 0:08:35.920 --> 0:08:38.320 there are two things that children and by the way, 0:08:38.320 --> 0:08:41.719 this word children. Someone say, well, what age are you 0:08:41.720 --> 0:08:45.200 talking about? This word children in the in the Greek 0:08:45.200 --> 0:08:49.040 is technia. It doesn't mean little ones necessarily. It means 0:08:49.080 --> 0:08:54.840 offspring at various ages. So this says offspring, sons and daughters. 0:08:55.200 --> 0:09:00.240 It says children obey your parents. And then secondly, it says, 0:09:00.360 --> 0:09:02.720 and honor your parents. So there's two words that's given 0:09:02.720 --> 0:09:07.000 to our offspring. Number one is obedience. And secondly is honor. 0:09:08.080 --> 0:09:10.840 Obedience has to do with the idea of putting ourselves 0:09:10.840 --> 0:09:15.040 under the authority of someone. It's a military term. It 0:09:15.040 --> 0:09:19.640 means coming under the authority. And the word honor has 0:09:19.640 --> 0:09:24.439 to do with not taking them lightly. In fact, literally, 0:09:24.440 --> 0:09:30.000 the word honor means heavy. Um, you know, when someone 0:09:30.000 --> 0:09:31.720 says something to you and you don't really care what 0:09:31.720 --> 0:09:34.200 they're saying, you just take it lightly. It doesn't matter. 0:09:35.120 --> 0:09:38.480 But if you're showing honor, you want to listen to 0:09:38.520 --> 0:09:41.040 what they're saying because what they're saying is important. The Bible talks to offspring and it 0:10:10.610 --> 0:10:16.770 says you owe your parents two things obedience and honor. Now, 0:10:16.770 --> 0:10:20.610 those two things have to do with how your children 0:10:20.610 --> 0:10:25.810 position themselves under authority. I want to talk to you. 0:10:25.809 --> 0:10:29.850 This is really, really important. This is how it works. 0:10:30.850 --> 0:10:33.809 I'm going to teach you a principle that's a powerful principle, 0:10:33.809 --> 0:10:36.530 not just for children, but for those of you that 0:10:36.530 --> 0:10:39.930 are adults. And it starts in childhood and it has 0:10:39.929 --> 0:10:47.490 repercussions into adulthood. I have an umbrella with me right now. Now, 0:10:47.490 --> 0:10:51.530 why do we use umbrellas? Well, we pull an umbrella 0:10:51.570 --> 0:10:56.929 out when it's raining torrentially outside. I use an umbrella 0:10:56.929 --> 0:10:59.530 because when it's raining outside, I don't want to mess 0:10:59.530 --> 0:11:06.410 up my hair. So here's what happens. If it's raining, 0:11:06.410 --> 0:11:09.890 I put myself under the umbrella. And as long as 0:11:09.890 --> 0:11:14.410 I am under the umbrella, I don't get wet. I 0:11:14.410 --> 0:11:18.929 can have an umbrella. And if I hold the umbrella outside, 0:11:18.929 --> 0:11:21.609 then I get wet, even though I have an umbrella. 0:11:21.850 --> 0:11:25.410 As long as I'm under, I'm protected. The insight of their parents, the prayers 0:12:13.059 --> 0:12:16.380 of their parents, the favor of their parents is on 0:12:16.380 --> 0:12:21.660 their life. When a child decides gets a seed of 0:12:21.700 --> 0:12:25.980 here it goes rebellion. When a child gets a seed 0:12:25.980 --> 0:12:29.820 of rebellion, a child says, I don't want to be 0:12:29.820 --> 0:12:33.620 under the authority of my parents. Are you tracking with me? Here's 0:13:11.780 --> 0:13:14.939 what I want you to understand. This is huge. It's 0:13:14.940 --> 0:13:20.420 a huge principle. Do you realize that the reason that 0:13:20.420 --> 0:13:24.579 humanity is in the situation that it is, is because 0:13:24.580 --> 0:13:28.820 the very first individuals that God created the problem, what 0:13:28.860 --> 0:13:32.260 led them out of God's protection was what leads us 0:13:32.260 --> 0:13:34.340 out of the protection of our family, the protection of 0:13:34.340 --> 0:13:36.980 our church, the protection of God. Over 0:14:48.230 --> 0:14:51.470 a thousand people come to Christ and get baptized in 0:14:51.470 --> 0:14:55.430 the last 24 months, mainly under the age of 35. 0:14:55.990 --> 0:15:01.480 Many that had no religious background and are just hungry 0:15:01.480 --> 0:15:04.240 for God. And I think the turbulence of the world 0:15:04.240 --> 0:15:08.360 has caused them to say I need something. And many 0:15:08.360 --> 0:15:12.960 of us as believers, we're getting too distracted by what's 0:15:12.960 --> 0:15:16.400 happening and not focused enough on the gospel. And so 0:15:16.400 --> 0:15:19.360 I want to bring your attention back to the opportunities 0:15:19.360 --> 0:15:21.760 that you have around you.
