But that's not something we can do 0:00:49.240 --> 0:00:49.960 on our own. 0:00:50.080 --> 0:00:53.199 No it's not. And Wayne, I know some people will 0:00:53.240 --> 0:00:57.040 be shocked to know there's a lot of dead men 0:00:57.080 --> 0:01:01.320 walking and the Bible talks about we can be dead 0:01:01.840 --> 0:01:05.880 spiritually even though we're alive physically, right? And it talks 0:01:05.880 --> 0:01:08.440 about a moment in time that has to come where 0:01:08.560 --> 0:01:12.360 we become alive spiritually. And this is a powerful, powerful 0:01:12.520 --> 0:01:15.360 insight into what it means to be born again and 0:01:15.360 --> 0:01:17.520 going from death to life. 0:01:17.520 --> 0:01:19.200 If you have a copy of the scriptures with you, 0:01:19.200 --> 0:01:22.200 turn to Ephesians chapter two. How many of you had 0:01:43.520 --> 0:01:47.960 that nightmare before? Some have nightmares of falling off buildings. 0:01:49.480 --> 0:01:53.160 You're falling, falling, falling. Seems like you're going to hit. 0:01:53.360 --> 0:01:56.760 And you never do, right? I'm told that if you do, 0:01:56.760 --> 0:02:01.250 forget it. Life's over. So don't. Don't ever hit. Some 0:02:01.250 --> 0:02:06.490 people have nightmares about being paralyzed. You're paralyzed. You can't 0:02:06.490 --> 0:02:09.010 move a bone in your body. You try to scream 0:02:09.010 --> 0:02:11.489 and you can't scream. Your mouth opens, but it doesn't 0:02:11.490 --> 0:02:15.250 come out. And you just you feel like there's not 0:02:15.250 --> 0:02:18.090 a bone in your body that can that can do anything. 0:02:18.130 --> 0:02:21.490 Ever had that nightmare? Okay, some of you have all 0:02:21.530 --> 0:02:23.370 of them. You must have a lot of nightmares. I 0:02:23.370 --> 0:02:25.290 like I had that one, that one, that one. And 0:02:26.730 --> 0:02:30.570 one of the worst nightmares that people mention, though, is 0:02:30.570 --> 0:02:36.850 the nightmare or the dread of being buried alive. What 0:02:36.889 --> 0:02:39.570 a terrible feeling it would have to be to be 0:02:39.570 --> 0:02:46.650 buried alive. Recently, we've all watched with rapt amazement at 0:02:46.650 --> 0:02:50.690 the miners that were buried in in Chile, um, and 0:02:50.690 --> 0:02:57.609 just thousands of feet underground and and just the claustrophobic 0:02:57.610 --> 0:03:02.970 feeling that they must feel. But the nightmare of thinking 0:03:02.970 --> 0:03:06.250 that somehow you would be put in a coffin and 0:03:06.250 --> 0:03:09.609 put six feet under the ground, only to wake up 0:03:09.610 --> 0:03:13.130 and realize that you were buried alive. What a nightmare 0:03:13.130 --> 0:03:18.690 that is. I'm told that George Washington had such a 0:03:18.690 --> 0:03:21.730 fear that they would bury him alive, that on his 0:03:21.730 --> 0:03:25.330 deathbed he talked to his servants, and he made them 0:03:25.370 --> 0:03:29.410 vow that they would not bury him until 12 days 0:03:29.410 --> 0:03:32.210 after he was dead. I mean, he just wanted to 0:03:32.210 --> 0:03:34.490 make sure I don't want you to bury me alive. 0:03:34.530 --> 0:03:37.650 So wait 12 days and then you can bury me. 0:03:39.690 --> 0:03:41.970 In fact, there was a scare in the early days 0:03:41.970 --> 0:03:47.370 because during some of the hundreds of years ago, during 0:03:47.410 --> 0:03:49.330 some of the Middle Ages and some of the other 0:03:49.330 --> 0:03:55.290 plagues that hit, uh, some people were actually literally, seriously 0:03:55.290 --> 0:04:00.690 buried alive, in part because when some of these dreaded 0:04:00.780 --> 0:04:04.980 plagues hit. The doctors and other family members did not 0:04:04.980 --> 0:04:07.220 want to get too close for fear that they would 0:04:07.220 --> 0:04:10.140 get the plague, so they sort of rolled the bodies 0:04:10.140 --> 0:04:12.620 into coffins, not want to touching them, not wanting to 0:04:12.620 --> 0:04:16.300 get sick. And there's historical evidence in some of these 0:04:16.420 --> 0:04:20.700 places that actually people woke up and found themselves buried. 0:04:21.740 --> 0:04:27.500 I read an article that just in August of this year, 0:04:27.860 --> 0:04:32.219 there was a young mother in Mexico, Miss Hernandez, that 0:04:32.220 --> 0:04:36.620 was grieving over a baby that she had had, and 0:04:36.820 --> 0:04:42.140 the doctors had pronounced the baby dead, and they had 0:04:42.140 --> 0:04:45.460 put this premature baby in a coffin, and they were 0:04:45.460 --> 0:04:50.260 about to begin, commence the funeral ceremony to bury this. 0:04:50.260 --> 0:04:52.420 And as the mother was weeping and crying and so forth, 0:04:52.420 --> 0:04:54.779 she thought she heard some noise in this little coffin. 0:04:54.779 --> 0:05:00.020 Now that's spooky. And she she kept hearing the noises. 0:05:00.020 --> 0:05:02.900 So finally she opened the. She opened the little coffin 0:05:02.900 --> 0:05:05.700 that her that her daughter was in. And lo and behold, 0:05:05.700 --> 0:05:08.820 the baby was crying and moving around. It had been 0:05:08.820 --> 0:05:14.860 mispronounced and saved her from a burial. But here's the thing. 0:05:15.339 --> 0:05:20.420 When you are alive and when you are well, you 0:05:20.460 --> 0:05:27.820 cannot be placed in the coffins of the dead. Because 0:05:27.820 --> 0:05:31.659 when you're alive, that's not where you belong. When you're alive, 0:05:31.700 --> 0:05:34.500 that's not where you want to be. When you're alive, 0:05:34.540 --> 0:05:38.420 you want to burst out and say, I am not dead. 0:05:38.460 --> 0:05:45.540 I am alive spiritually. The same thing is true when 0:05:45.540 --> 0:05:52.460 you are alive spiritually, you will not tolerate being in 0:05:52.460 --> 0:05:56.820 the place of the dead when you are spiritually alive. 0:05:57.380 --> 0:06:00.300 When you are spiritually alive, you will not want to 0:06:00.470 --> 0:06:05.230 be put in a spiritual coffin because your spirit will say, 0:06:05.230 --> 0:06:08.589 I am. This is not where I belong. My spirit 0:06:08.589 --> 0:06:11.549 is alive and well. And when you're alive. You cannot 0:06:11.550 --> 0:06:16.469 be contained in the coffin of the dead. Ephesians chapter two. 0:06:16.510 --> 0:06:21.229 Paul begins this second chapter of Ephesians with a very 0:06:21.230 --> 0:06:29.070 interesting statement. He says. Verse one. As for you, now 0:06:29.070 --> 0:06:33.790 he's speaking to believers. He says, as for you, you 0:06:33.790 --> 0:06:43.790 were dead. In your transgressions and sins. Hold on. Dead? Yeah, dead. 0:06:44.630 --> 0:06:46.390 I mean, he's talking to a bunch of people that 0:06:46.390 --> 0:06:49.750 are Christians, believers. They know God. And he's saying to them, hey, 0:06:49.750 --> 0:06:52.870 you were dead. And I'm sure they probably looked at 0:06:52.870 --> 0:06:57.789 one another and said, dead. I mean, when were we dead? Well, 0:06:57.790 --> 0:07:02.510 there's a lot of ways of being dead. You see, 0:07:03.110 --> 0:07:06.150 I believe in the trichotomy of man. That means that 0:07:07.070 --> 0:07:11.430 you compose. What makes up your being is body, soul, 0:07:12.590 --> 0:07:16.710 and spirit, as found in First Corinthians chapter five. Your 0:07:16.710 --> 0:07:18.990 body is the physical part of you. When you're born, 0:07:18.990 --> 0:07:22.550 that little naked baby, everybody sees it, holds it, slaps it, 0:07:22.550 --> 0:07:27.270 makes it cry. That's the physical part of you. But 0:07:27.270 --> 0:07:30.390 then there's an unseen part of you called the soul. 0:07:31.390 --> 0:07:37.989 The soul is that part of you that houses your intelligence, 0:07:38.590 --> 0:07:44.270 your personality, your intellect, your will. And then there's another 0:07:44.270 --> 0:07:48.150 part of you. There's the body, there's the soul, and 0:07:48.150 --> 0:07:53.550 then there's the spirit. The spirit is the intangible part 0:07:53.550 --> 0:07:57.510 of you. It's the part of you that relates to 0:07:57.550 --> 0:08:04.720 the spirit world and more importantly, that relates to God. 0:08:05.400 --> 0:08:08.520 Because God is a spirit and they that worship him 0:08:08.520 --> 0:08:12.880 must worship him in spirit and in truth. Now we 0:08:12.880 --> 0:08:16.560 are more aware of the physical world because the physical 0:08:16.560 --> 0:08:21.400 world is what we see, touch, smell, feel. So we're 0:08:21.400 --> 0:08:25.360 very aware of the physical world. We're somewhat aware of 0:08:25.360 --> 0:08:28.760 the soul world because it's the thinking world, the thought world, 0:08:28.760 --> 0:08:33.280 the personality world. But sometimes we're oblivious to the spiritual 0:08:33.280 --> 0:08:36.320 world because we can't see it. We can't touch it, 0:08:36.360 --> 0:08:39.719 we can't feel it. We walk right into the spiritual 0:08:39.720 --> 0:08:42.880 world and don't always know what's happening in that unseen 0:08:42.880 --> 0:08:46.599 world around us. But the spiritual world is as real 0:08:46.640 --> 0:08:52.480 as the physical world. So Paul is speaking to these 0:08:52.480 --> 0:08:57.480 believers and he's saying, you were dead. Now were they 0:08:57.520 --> 0:09:01.480 dead in the body? No. Were they dead in the soul? No. 0:09:01.480 --> 0:09:04.680 They could think and live where they were dead. As 0:09:04.679 --> 0:09:08.240 in the spirit. So Paul looks at these people and 0:09:08.240 --> 0:09:14.200 says before, in your former life, at another time you 0:09:14.200 --> 0:09:21.760 were dead. Spiritually, you were dead. Now when were they dead? Well, 0:09:22.520 --> 0:09:25.440 in order to understand when they were dead, we have 0:09:25.440 --> 0:09:32.160 to understand how they died. He tells us this. As 0:09:32.200 --> 0:09:38.080 for you, you were dead. In what? In your transgressions 0:09:38.080 --> 0:09:44.160 and sin. What put them spiritually to death was their 0:09:44.160 --> 0:09:49.199 transgressions and sins. Now we all pretty much know what 0:09:49.240 --> 0:09:51.400 sin is, but some of us aren't quite sure what 0:09:51.440 --> 0:09:57.320 transgressions mean. Well, let me define it for you. To 0:09:57.360 --> 0:10:08.170 transgress Talks about our other translations say trespasses, transgressions. There 0:10:08.370 --> 0:10:14.690 are similar words and synonymous basically to to transgress speaks 0:10:14.690 --> 0:10:19.730 of a man as a rebel, or our lack of 0:10:19.730 --> 0:10:24.330 desire of going God's way. When I when I'm a transgressor, 0:10:24.730 --> 0:10:27.330 it means that I know what's right, but I don't 0:10:27.330 --> 0:10:30.250 want to do it. Speaks of my rebellion towards God. 0:10:30.290 --> 0:10:36.330 God's authority. Sin speaks of our failure to meet God's standard. 0:10:36.650 --> 0:10:39.450 So one speaks about our desire to do our own 0:10:39.490 --> 0:10:43.290 thing and the other speaks about our failure. So what 0:10:43.290 --> 0:10:47.730 killed our spirit was our desire to do our own 0:10:47.770 --> 0:10:53.170 thing and our failure to meet God's standard. It makes 0:10:53.170 --> 0:10:58.010 me ask myself this question. However, when you were born, 0:10:58.010 --> 0:11:01.170 you had a body, you had a soul and you 0:11:01.170 --> 0:11:06.449 had a spirit. Was your spirit alive when you were born? 0:11:08.850 --> 0:11:14.050 When did your spirit die? That's a good question, right? 0:11:16.210 --> 0:11:20.929 Let's think about that for a second. It's transgression and 0:11:20.929 --> 0:11:28.329 sin that kills our spirit. Can a baby sin a newborn? 0:11:28.330 --> 0:11:32.610 Can they sin? Oh, no. They're not even aware how 0:11:32.610 --> 0:11:35.810 to sin yet. There's no conscious of right or wrong. 0:11:35.850 --> 0:11:38.809 They don't have the ability to sin. I believe that 0:11:38.809 --> 0:11:43.250 every child is born with an innocent spirit within them. 0:11:43.450 --> 0:11:46.290 That when you are born, you are born body, soul 0:11:46.290 --> 0:11:50.569 and spirit, and the spirit that the spirit part of 0:11:50.570 --> 0:11:56.610 you is innocent, free and responsive to God in a child. 0:11:57.490 --> 0:12:00.380 In fact, let me go. Let me go a step further. 0:12:01.460 --> 0:12:05.420 I believe that even when a baby is in the 0:12:05.420 --> 0:12:10.060 womb of its mother, and doctors and other people call 0:12:10.059 --> 0:12:14.060 it a fetus, I call it a child. I believe 0:13:13.300 --> 0:13:15.660 it because. Do you remember the story? I mean, there's 0:13:15.660 --> 0:13:18.060 several places in Scripture, but one of them that comes 0:13:18.059 --> 0:13:22.420 to mind is that when Mary was pregnant with Jesus, 0:13:23.380 --> 0:13:28.860 she encountered her cousin Elizabeth, who was also pregnant with 0:13:28.860 --> 0:13:35.100 John the Baptizer. When they encountered these, two pregnant women 0:13:35.100 --> 0:13:40.780 encountered each other. The Bible says that the baby within 0:13:40.820 --> 0:13:47.300 Elizabeth's womb jumped, was filled with the spirit. The baby 0:13:47.300 --> 0:13:50.620 in the womb was filled with the spirit when encountered 0:13:50.820 --> 0:13:55.540 the baby Jesus within the mother's womb. So what's it? 0:13:55.540 --> 0:13:58.100 Tell me? It tells me that that unborn baby had 0:13:58.100 --> 0:14:01.990 a spirit And that the unborn baby was able to 0:14:01.990 --> 0:14:05.309 be filled with the spirit even within its mother's womb. 0:14:05.590 --> 0:14:09.190 That's why I'm so pro-life. To me, when an unborn 0:14:09.190 --> 0:14:12.510 baby is not born, it's not a mass of tissue 0:14:12.510 --> 0:14:17.150 or just some, uh, product of the mother's womb. Because my kids are so good. I mean, 0:14:56.070 --> 0:15:00.280 they're just so innocent and good. They just don't know 0:15:00.280 --> 0:15:03.200 how to sin. So could we teach a little course 0:15:03.200 --> 0:15:05.440 on sinning one on one? Never had a parent asked 0:15:05.440 --> 0:15:10.400 me that. Most parents I have had parents come to 0:15:10.400 --> 0:15:13.400 me with four year olds and say, pastor, can you 0:15:13.400 --> 0:15:16.000 do an exorcism out of my kid? Because I, you know, 0:15:16.240 --> 0:15:17.880 he's got some spirit in him. I don't know where 0:15:17.880 --> 0:15:20.760 he got it from. I have had parents come to 0:15:20.760 --> 0:15:23.080 me like that, but but but here's the thing. Listen, 0:15:24.120 --> 0:15:28.560 children don't have to be taught to sin. Why not? 0:15:29.880 --> 0:15:32.520 Here's the thing. When a child is born, they're born 0:15:32.520 --> 0:15:38.240 with a spirit. Their spirit is clean and and and uncontaminated. However, 0:15:38.240 --> 0:15:44.280 every child is born with a sin nature. Now, some 0:15:44.280 --> 0:15:48.840 people believe, and some traditions of faith believe that because 0:15:48.880 --> 0:15:51.480 a child is born with a sin nature, the sin 0:15:51.480 --> 0:15:54.560 nature has to be cleansed from them at birth. And 0:15:54.560 --> 0:15:58.320 so some people do infant baptism in order to cleanse 0:15:58.320 --> 0:16:01.840 the sin, nature and so forth. But. But I want 0:16:01.840 --> 0:16:07.240 you to understand something a sin. Nature never condemns us 0:16:07.240 --> 0:16:10.560 before God. It is sin that kills our spirit, not 0:16:10.560 --> 0:16:14.120 a sin nature. A sin nature means we have the 0:16:14.120 --> 0:16:18.080 propensity to sin, that we're born with a disposition to sin. 0:16:18.080 --> 0:16:20.040 Where did we get that from? We got it from 0:16:20.040 --> 0:16:24.480 Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve were were created without 0:16:24.480 --> 0:16:28.240 a sin nature. They were made by God, without a 0:16:28.240 --> 0:16:30.480 sin nature, but they were made in the image of 0:16:30.480 --> 0:16:36.440 God so that God did not create robots. God did 0:16:36.440 --> 0:16:38.600 not wind Adam and Eve up and say, you will 0:16:38.600 --> 0:16:40.760 love me, serve me, and never sin. Yes, we will 0:16:40.760 --> 0:16:43.760 love you. We will serve you. We will. No he didn't. 0:16:43.760 --> 0:16:46.480 He didn't create him that way. He created them with 0:16:46.480 --> 0:16:51.280 the power to make choices. And there came a time 0:16:51.280 --> 0:16:54.440 when they made a choice to sin against God. As 0:16:54.440 --> 0:16:57.800 soon as they chose to sin against God. The Bible 0:16:57.800 --> 0:17:02.360 calls it the fall of man. as soon as they sinned. 0:17:02.400 --> 0:17:06.560 Every child that was born after Adam and Eve inherited 0:17:06.560 --> 0:17:10.000 the sin nature. Cain and Abel inherited the sin nature. 0:17:10.040 --> 0:17:14.399 Their children inherited the sin, the sin nature. Every generation, 0:17:14.400 --> 0:17:18.320 from people in Africa to Europe to Asia to Australia, 0:17:18.359 --> 0:17:21.800 everybody that's come from Adam and Eve, which is all generations. 0:17:21.800 --> 0:17:24.320 We've all inherited the sin nature. That means that the 0:17:24.320 --> 0:17:28.120 moment that you were born, you were born without sin, 0:17:28.119 --> 0:17:30.720 but you were born with the propensity to sin, that 0:17:30.720 --> 0:17:34.480 when you got old enough, you would sin. That's why, 0:17:34.520 --> 0:17:37.399 by the way, I believe that every child, it's not 0:17:37.400 --> 0:17:39.720 the sin nature that condemns us, it's sin. That's why 0:17:39.720 --> 0:17:43.960 I believe that a child, every child that dies before 0:17:43.960 --> 0:17:46.920 the age of accountability, before they know right and wrong 0:17:46.960 --> 0:17:49.240 and sin. I believe every child goes to the presence 0:17:49.240 --> 0:17:53.800 of God. But it's a sin nature that gives us 0:17:53.800 --> 0:18:00.850 the propensity to sin. That's why when Jesus came Adam 0:18:00.850 --> 0:18:05.210 was created without a sin. Nature. Every child after Adam 0:18:05.210 --> 0:18:10.010 had the sin nature. When Jesus came, Jesus had to 0:18:10.010 --> 0:18:13.650 be born of a virgin and not through the seed 0:18:13.690 --> 0:18:17.610 of man, because the sin nature is passed down through 0:18:17.609 --> 0:18:22.609 the seed of man. That's why Mary became impregnated without 0:18:22.609 --> 0:18:25.970 a man. Because if she had been impregnated by a man, 0:18:26.290 --> 0:18:30.369 that child born would have the sin nature. So therefore 0:18:30.410 --> 0:18:36.970 Mary was was was held the impregnation of Jesus, but 0:18:36.970 --> 0:18:40.210 without the seed of man. So that Jesus, when he 0:18:40.210 --> 0:18:43.530 was born, he was born without the nature to sin. 0:18:43.770 --> 0:18:46.889 That's why the Bible refers to him as the second Adam. 0:18:47.010 --> 0:18:49.690 There was the first Adam with the sin nature, and 0:18:49.690 --> 0:18:53.650 Jesus was born also without a sin nature. He became 0:18:53.650 --> 0:18:57.129 the second Adam, the firstborn. The Bible tells us among 0:18:57.130 --> 0:18:59.129 many brethren, are you tracking with me? Just not. I 0:18:59.130 --> 0:19:01.500 want to make sure I didn't lose anybody. Okay, this 0:19:01.500 --> 0:19:06.500 is important. I know it's theology, but it's important.
