And then don't forget, if you reject him, 0:02:10.400 --> 0:02:13.880 there is a hell that awaits. We don't want to 0:02:13.880 --> 0:02:18.320 say that, but it's a reality. Well, today we are in Luke 0:02:25.800 --> 0:02:28.880 chapter 16, so I hope you open your Bible. Join 0:02:28.880 --> 0:02:32.280 us there as we continue a message called Seven Things 0:02:32.280 --> 0:02:34.959 in Hell that ought to be in the church. Here 0:02:35.000 --> 0:02:36.000 is Pastor Ford. 0:02:36.840 --> 0:02:40.720 Look what it says in Luke 1619 through 31. Let 0:02:40.720 --> 0:02:46.400 me give you the characteristics of hell. Characteristics of hell, 0:02:46.639 --> 0:02:52.400 number one is for self righteous sinners. What's the problem 0:02:52.400 --> 0:02:56.320 with the rich man? It isn't that he just didn't share. 0:02:56.760 --> 0:03:00.950 He demonstrated that he did not have the love of 0:03:00.950 --> 0:03:07.430 God in him according to all Old Testament passages. And so, uh, 0:03:07.470 --> 0:03:13.830 he is a self righteous sinner. Secondly, it is a 0:03:13.830 --> 0:03:18.350 place for souls. It's a place for souls. So it's 0:03:18.350 --> 0:03:22.470 a place for self-righteous sinners, and it's a place for souls. 0:03:22.669 --> 0:03:26.070 So then this teaches us and the other passages about it. 0:03:26.070 --> 0:03:32.230 There's no such thing as annihilation that a soul is eternal. 0:03:32.230 --> 0:03:35.710 And so everybody in here, whether you know Jesus Christ 0:03:35.710 --> 0:03:42.110 or not, you are going to live forever somewhere. And so just because 0:03:52.590 --> 0:03:57.470 we don't believe it doesn't change anything. Notice then, so 0:03:57.510 --> 0:04:01.070 it's a place for self-righteous sinners. It's a place for souls. 0:04:01.270 --> 0:04:05.630 Then thirdly, it's a place of suffering. It's a place 0:04:05.630 --> 0:04:11.790 of suffering. So Matthew said, the worm dieth not. Uh, 0:04:11.790 --> 0:04:14.430 so it is, uh, a place where the worm. Now 0:04:14.470 --> 0:04:17.670 theologians aren't agreed. And I'm not a theologian, so I'm 0:04:17.670 --> 0:04:21.349 just going to tell you what both sides say. Where 0:04:21.350 --> 0:04:26.310 the worm dieth not. Some think it is your consciousness. 0:04:28.630 --> 0:04:31.710 Where the worm dieth not. Had you listened to 0:04:53.270 --> 0:04:56.550 your grandmamma or had you listened to, you know, that 0:04:56.550 --> 0:05:00.789 time you went to church on Resurrection Sunday and heard 0:05:00.790 --> 0:05:03.910 the gospel and came in just as I am, and 0:05:03.910 --> 0:05:08.550 left just as you were, that you heard this and 0:05:08.550 --> 0:05:11.270 and now you're in hell, the worm. In other words, 0:05:11.270 --> 0:05:16.990 your consciousness about the fact that. So then every opportunity 0:05:16.990 --> 0:05:20.469 that you've had to receive the good news of Jesus 0:05:20.470 --> 0:05:24.070 Christ for all of eternity, that's going to be playing 0:05:24.070 --> 0:05:27.630 in the computer of your mind. Can you imagine the 0:05:27.630 --> 0:05:32.990 agony of that man? And so it is a place 0:05:33.190 --> 0:05:35.870 of self righteous sinners. It's a place of souls. It's 0:05:35.870 --> 0:05:39.070 a place of suffering. But then here's what else he 0:05:39.110 --> 0:05:44.950 teaches us. It's a place of searing flames because he says, I'm. 0:05:44.950 --> 0:05:50.630 I'm tormented in these flames. I'm tormented in these flames. 0:05:51.230 --> 0:05:53.869 Then I want you to notice. Fifthly, it's a place 0:05:53.870 --> 0:06:00.950 of separation. Separation says there's a great gulf, verse 26, 0:06:00.950 --> 0:06:03.630 between us and you, there's a great gulf fixed so 0:06:03.630 --> 0:06:06.909 that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, 0:06:06.910 --> 0:06:11.070 nor can those from there pass to us. So then 0:06:11.070 --> 0:06:17.350 it's a place of self-righteous sinners, souls suffering, searing flames, separation. 0:06:17.470 --> 0:06:23.630 It's a place of supplication. The rich man is praying, 0:06:24.589 --> 0:06:30.670 and he uses a word that literally means where he says. 0:06:30.670 --> 0:06:34.310 Then he said, I beg you. Therefore other places that's 0:06:34.310 --> 0:06:43.270 translated prayer. And so he is supplicating. Uh, then number seven, 0:06:43.270 --> 0:06:46.710 it's a place of sensitivity. So, so let me just 0:06:46.710 --> 0:06:48.070 let me just show you this. Let me just show 0:06:48.070 --> 0:06:52.270 you this. He says, um, then he said, verse 27, 0:06:52.270 --> 0:06:54.270 I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him 0:06:54.270 --> 0:06:56.909 to my father's house, for I have five brothers, that 0:06:56.910 --> 0:07:00.750 he may testify to them, that they also, lest they 0:07:00.750 --> 0:07:05.349 also come to this place of torment. So in hell, 0:07:05.950 --> 0:07:16.590 they're concerned about lost people. How concerned are we? Yeah, 0:07:16.590 --> 0:07:21.510 there's sensitivity to lost people. Yeah. And then, uh, finally, 0:07:21.630 --> 0:07:28.630 it's ceaseless. It's ceaseless, it's incarceration, and people will never 0:07:28.670 --> 0:07:33.270 get out. Uh, you know, uh, but there was 0:14:46.860 --> 0:14:49.460 a certain beggar named Lazarus full of sores laid at 0:14:49.460 --> 0:14:51.420 his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which 0:14:51.460 --> 0:14:54.300 fell from the rich man's table. There's thirst in heaven. My 0:17:15.450 --> 0:17:18.010 mother used to say it all the time. Mama, can 0:17:18.010 --> 0:17:21.609 I have. I want people in hell want ice water, 0:17:21.609 --> 0:17:24.170 but they ain't getting none. That's what she tell me 0:17:24.170 --> 0:17:29.210 all the time. No people in hell want out. That's 0:17:29.210 --> 0:17:32.090 what they want. And so it says. The flames are 0:17:32.090 --> 0:17:37.530 intense and. And metaphorically. Don't we need a cool tongue? 0:17:38.369 --> 0:17:41.370 James says the tongue is a fire, and it needs 0:17:41.369 --> 0:17:45.090 to be cooled down.
