Why would they say that? Because 0:01:34.760 --> 0:01:37.840 they believed in the imminent return of Christ. Let me 0:01:37.840 --> 0:01:41.240 tell you why we don't expect and anticipate and look 0:01:41.240 --> 0:01:44.480 forward to the coming of Christ. If you live your 0:01:44.480 --> 0:01:52.120 life in comfort, if there's relative safety, security, and economic prosperity, 0:01:52.960 --> 0:01:57.640 we tend to get enamored with this world, comfortable with 0:01:57.640 --> 0:02:02.650 our living. In fact, most people in America, Christians that 0:02:02.650 --> 0:02:06.610 I know don't necessarily look forward to the coming of Christ. 0:02:06.610 --> 0:02:10.250 If I were to say Jesus was coming Thursday, some 0:02:10.250 --> 0:02:13.890 of you would say, whoa, hold on, I had a 0:02:13.930 --> 0:02:17.050 quinceanera planned for next month. It's going to really mess up. 0:02:17.050 --> 0:02:24.609 I already put the deposit down. Some of you would 0:02:24.610 --> 0:02:28.370 say I was about to retire in February. I mean, 0:02:28.370 --> 0:02:30.970 come on, after all these years of working, finally I 0:02:30.970 --> 0:02:33.930 was going to go and have some free time. And. Jesus, 0:02:33.930 --> 0:02:38.810 you're coming now. Some of you say, hey, I already 0:02:38.810 --> 0:02:43.490 put the down payment for our vacation in the Bahamas. 0:02:43.730 --> 0:02:46.889 It's already bought over orbits. And now, Jesus, you're going 0:02:46.930 --> 0:02:51.570 to mess up my vacation plans. But if you go 0:02:51.570 --> 0:02:56.810 to a country where people are being persecuted, put in prison, tortured, 0:02:57.169 --> 0:03:04.930 suffering their belongings, taken away hiding because they, their wife 0:03:04.930 --> 0:03:09.330 has been kidnapped. That they're living without their possessions mere 0:03:09.370 --> 0:03:12.810 by for the mere fact that they're followers of Jesus. 0:03:12.810 --> 0:03:25.650 They would say, yes, come, Lord Jesus. Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus. Secondly, 0:03:26.650 --> 0:03:30.290 Jesus tells us not only to live with a expectant 0:03:30.290 --> 0:03:34.410 and informed attitude about his imminent return, but to stay 0:03:34.410 --> 0:03:38.810 ready by living alert and watchful for his imminent return. 0:03:39.090 --> 0:03:44.690 Verse 42 says this therefore. And anytime you see the 0:03:44.690 --> 0:03:47.530 word therefore, you need to ask, what is it therefore right? 0:03:48.290 --> 0:03:50.770 When you see the word therefore in Scripture, it means 0:03:50.770 --> 0:03:55.130 that it's building on the previous thought, because people will 0:03:55.130 --> 0:03:58.410 be taken away, because one person will be left behind 0:03:58.410 --> 0:04:05.660 and because Jesus will come unexpectedly. Therefore keep watch because 0:04:05.660 --> 0:04:09.380 you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 0:04:09.780 --> 0:04:11.940 But understand this if the owner of the house had 0:04:11.940 --> 0:04:14.860 known at what time of the night the thief was coming, 0:04:14.860 --> 0:04:17.180 he would have kept watch and would not have let 0:04:17.180 --> 0:04:21.219 his house be broken into. I went with her the first time, 0:05:41.580 --> 0:05:43.179 and I said, you're going to go on your own, 0:05:43.180 --> 0:05:46.740 but you're going to drive through this neighborhood, and I'm 0:05:46.740 --> 0:05:49.339 going to tell you how to drive through that neighborhood. 0:05:49.980 --> 0:05:55.380 So first of all, leave two car spaces ahead of you. So I think we have 0:07:17.470 --> 0:07:20.510 some time. I don't think it's for you to tell 0:07:20.510 --> 0:07:23.870 us if we have time or not. My Bible says 0:07:23.910 --> 0:07:28.750 live ready. And so we live with this expectation that 0:07:28.750 --> 0:07:34.070 Jesus could come at any time, any moment, any day. 0:07:35.230 --> 0:07:38.350 You keep ready. What does that mean? It means listen. 0:07:38.950 --> 0:07:45.870 The greatest way to keep ready. Is not to get 0:07:45.910 --> 0:07:51.270 five transformers in your house. Bottles of water and a bunker. 0:07:53.910 --> 0:07:58.670 And a time chart of the end days. Predicting. Yeah, 0:07:58.670 --> 0:08:00.840 it's about three months away. No, no, no, that's not 0:08:00.840 --> 0:08:03.880 how you get ready. The best way to get ready 0:08:04.720 --> 0:08:07.880 is to get up in the morning, pull out your 0:08:07.880 --> 0:08:11.560 Bible and say, Lord, my life today belongs to you. 0:08:11.920 --> 0:08:15.200 I want to live with no unconfessed sin. I want 0:08:15.240 --> 0:08:17.960 to live in obedience to you. I want to live 0:08:17.960 --> 0:08:20.760 full of the Holy Spirit. And whether I have a 0:08:20.760 --> 0:08:24.600 time chart or not, I want to live every day 0:08:24.800 --> 0:08:29.400 in line with you, in obedience to you, obeying you, 0:08:29.440 --> 0:08:32.679 loving you, and serving you. Because that's how I live. 0:08:32.679 --> 0:08:40.600 Ready for the end times. See, I know people that 0:08:40.600 --> 0:08:44.920 have charts but aren't living ready. I know people that 0:08:44.920 --> 0:08:49.040 have the whole outline of the end times figured out, 0:08:49.040 --> 0:08:52.880 but they're not living their personal life ready. You don't 0:08:52.880 --> 0:08:55.320 have to be an expert in prophecy to be ready 0:08:55.320 --> 0:08:57.960 for the coming of Christ. You don't have to know 0:08:57.960 --> 0:09:01.160 what the ten horns of revelation Mean to be ready 0:09:01.160 --> 0:09:03.480 for the coming of Christ. You don't have to have 0:09:03.480 --> 0:09:07.319 diagrammed and diagnosed the entire book of revelation and know 0:09:07.320 --> 0:09:09.679 what the dragon means and know who's coming from the 0:09:09.679 --> 0:09:12.079 East and the south, the east or the West. You 0:09:12.080 --> 0:09:14.480 don't have to know all that to be ready. You 0:09:14.480 --> 0:09:19.079 have to determine, I'm going to live my life surrendered 0:09:19.200 --> 0:09:22.040 to the Son of God, full of the Holy Spirit. 0:09:22.040 --> 0:09:25.760 And and if he comes today, I'm ready because I'm 0:09:25.760 --> 0:09:28.720 living for him every day of my life. That's how 0:09:28.720 --> 0:09:30.520 you live. And, um, 0:10:16.050 --> 0:10:19.130 technology has allowed us to do that. And I'm amazed 0:10:19.130 --> 0:10:23.370 when suddenly we get a email from Eastern Europe of 0:10:23.370 --> 0:10:26.410 someone saying, hey, I haven't found a church yet, but 0:10:26.410 --> 0:10:31.130 I listened to Bold Steps recently. Someone told me that 0:10:31.610 --> 0:10:35.250 a doctor in Mexico had joined their church, and they 0:10:35.250 --> 0:10:39.610 got saved through bold steps. And I'm like, wow, this 0:10:39.610 --> 0:10:43.410 is amazing how seeds are just being shot throughout all 0:10:43.410 --> 0:10:47.370 the world. We know specifically that there are people in 0:10:47.370 --> 0:10:52.370 closed countries right now that listen in secret, because it's 0:10:52.370 --> 0:10:56.090 dangerous for them to be caught listening to Christian radio. 0:10:56.690 --> 0:10:59.929 This is an amazing time to get the gospel out there. 0:11:00.330 --> 0:11:04.330 There are close to 9 billion people in the world, 0:11:04.490 --> 0:11:07.730 and there are millions and millions of people that have 0:11:07.730 --> 0:11:13.330 very little gospel presence in their world. They are saturated 0:11:13.330 --> 0:11:17.290 with false religion, with heresies, with a lot of different 0:11:17.330 --> 0:11:21.250 ideology that does not allow Jesus Christ to come to 0:11:21.290 --> 0:11:27.050 the forefront. And so radio, podcasting, our technology as people 0:11:27.050 --> 0:11:29.530 can live stream, this is one of the ways that 0:11:29.530 --> 0:11:33.850 we get past the guards at the borders and we 0:11:33.890 --> 0:11:36.890 through the airwaves. God has given us a beautiful gift 0:11:36.890 --> 0:11:41.290 to go past the guards, into the houses, into the homes, 0:11:41.290 --> 0:11:44.370 and right to into the bedrooms and kitchens of where 0:11:44.370 --> 0:11:47.410 people live, so that they are hearing the good message 0:11:47.410 --> 0:11:52.450 of Jesus like never before. And we are passionate about this. 0:11:52.890 --> 0:11:55.449 We know that there's a lot of other believers that 0:11:55.450 --> 0:11:59.250 are passionate as well, and we're saying, join us, please. 0:11:59.450 --> 0:12:02.900 This is a powerful moment for us to proclaim the 0:12:02.940 --> 0:12:06.220 gospel of Jesus Christ, especially as the world is being 0:12:06.220 --> 0:12:07.900 shaken in so many ways. 0:12:07.900 --> 0:12:10.300 I believe there is some listening right now who are 0:12:10.300 --> 0:12:12.219 not just hearers of the word, but want to be 0:12:12.220 --> 0:12:15.460 active participants in spreading that word. Verse 45 says, 0:13:06.700 --> 0:13:10.339 who then is the faithful and wise servant? So now 0:13:10.340 --> 0:13:16.939 Jesus contrasts two people, the ready servant and the unprepared servant. 0:13:17.740 --> 0:13:21.060 One he calls faithful and wise, the other he calls wicked. 0:13:22.300 --> 0:13:27.100 And he basically says, hey, imagine that there was a 0:13:27.100 --> 0:13:33.860 master that owned a a precinct and a household, and 0:13:33.860 --> 0:13:38.380 he leaves to go to a foreign country and he 0:13:38.380 --> 0:13:42.140 tells the manager in charge, hey, take care of my estate. 0:13:42.140 --> 0:13:45.620 I will be back. Take care of it the way 0:13:45.620 --> 0:13:48.180 I've trained you to take care of it. And so 0:13:48.179 --> 0:13:54.220 that manager, when he leaves, he runs the household on 0:13:54.220 --> 0:13:57.420 line with the purposes of his master. He takes care 0:13:57.420 --> 0:14:00.230 of the household as if his master was there. The 0:14:00.590 --> 0:14:04.870 owner of the household. He runs it, prepares it. The 0:14:04.870 --> 0:14:09.829 house is clean. The the property's kept up. The employees 0:14:09.830 --> 0:14:16.710 are paid. You've 0:14:32.310 --> 0:14:35.630 managed this property the way I would have had you 0:14:35.630 --> 0:14:39.830 manage it if I were present, he said. There's another manager, though. 0:14:40.790 --> 0:14:44.790 The owner leaves. He waves goodbye and he turns around 0:14:44.790 --> 0:14:49.110 and says, party time. The boss is away. The children 0:14:49.110 --> 0:14:51.110 will play like some of you do at work, but 0:14:51.150 --> 0:14:56.470 he says, alright, the owner is gone. And so now 0:14:56.470 --> 0:14:59.310 he starts acting like, hey, I'm not going to run 0:14:59.310 --> 0:15:02.920 this house. So like my owner wants it to be run. 0:15:02.920 --> 0:15:06.240 I'm going to start. I'm going to start having people 0:15:06.240 --> 0:15:08.720 serve me and I'm going to have a party. And 0:15:08.720 --> 0:15:11.880 it gets drunk and he parties in there. He uses people, 0:15:11.880 --> 0:15:16.280 abuses people, runs it, acts like he's the guy in charge, 0:15:16.320 --> 0:15:19.800 uses everything for himself, gets in the wine cellar, pulls 0:15:19.800 --> 0:15:22.400 out the oldest wine that he knows the owner would 0:15:22.400 --> 0:15:25.040 only have. He breaks it open, acts like it's his. 0:15:25.080 --> 0:15:28.920 He splurges, he uses, and then suddenly, when he's in 0:15:28.920 --> 0:15:32.400 the middle of his big party, the outside is unkept. 0:15:32.400 --> 0:15:37.240 People are in disarray. The other staff members feel abused 0:15:37.240 --> 0:15:40.880 and trampled down. Uh, the the the inside is like 0:15:40.880 --> 0:15:44.840 one big party. And suddenly the owner of the household 0:15:44.840 --> 0:15:50.040 returns and says, hey, what's going on? Oh, I didn't 0:15:50.040 --> 0:15:55.480 think you were returning this quickly. That's how it will 0:15:55.480 --> 0:16:00.320 be with the coming of the Son of God. There 0:16:00.360 --> 0:16:06.080 are some people that understand about Christ that have heard 0:16:06.080 --> 0:16:09.040 the gospel, that have said, I'm going to live my 0:16:09.040 --> 0:16:12.440 life as though my life belongs to God. I'm purpose 0:16:12.440 --> 0:16:16.320 with God. He's entrusted me with a mission and gifts 0:16:16.480 --> 0:16:20.000 and a vision, and I'm going to live my life 0:16:20.600 --> 0:16:26.080 using my gifts and my talents and my time and 0:16:26.080 --> 0:16:29.120 my treasure in line with the purposes of God. Because 0:16:29.120 --> 0:16:32.160 I know that my life belongs to God and everything 0:16:32.160 --> 0:16:34.280 that I am belongs to God. So I'm going to 0:16:34.280 --> 0:16:37.320 live my life as though God is my the Lord 0:16:37.320 --> 0:16:42.600 of my life. Others have heard about God and the gospel, 0:16:43.040 --> 0:16:46.000 but they determined to say, well, he's not coming soon. 0:16:46.200 --> 0:16:49.120 I'm going to live my life for me, and I'm 0:16:49.120 --> 0:16:51.760 going to act as though I'm the owner of my life. 0:16:51.800 --> 0:16:54.520 Though every the talents that I have belong to me, 0:16:54.520 --> 0:16:57.320 the resources that I have belong to me. He's the first to get up 0:17:36.880 --> 0:17:41.920 and look out the window. She's gone. He's the guy 0:17:41.920 --> 0:17:44.840 that gets everybody riled up. Pretty soon he gets up front, 0:17:44.840 --> 0:17:47.119 acts like the teacher jumps on her chair. He's on 0:17:47.119 --> 0:17:50.040 the desk doing a little dance. Gets everybody riled up 0:17:50.040 --> 0:17:53.520 because they think, aha, she's not coming back. There's a 0:17:53.520 --> 0:17:55.560 couple of them that are doing their assignment, a couple 0:17:55.560 --> 0:17:57.720 of them that are still working on it, and the 0:17:57.720 --> 0:18:01.649 class goes wild because they think, oh, she's going to 0:18:01.650 --> 0:18:03.970 come back in about ten minutes, but she comes back 0:18:03.970 --> 0:18:07.090 in about four minutes and catches the dancer up on 0:18:07.090 --> 0:18:15.890 her desk. The Bible says basically, that's the way it's 0:18:15.890 --> 0:18:18.970 going to be with the coming of the Son of Man. 0:18:20.730 --> 0:18:27.970 So the question that Jesus stirs us with is, are 0:18:27.970 --> 0:18:30.250 we ready? In fact, look at what he says at 0:18:30.250 --> 0:18:32.650 the end. It's pretty harsh what he says.
