The people realized that they weren't 0:27:52.180 --> 0:27:54.420 going to turn him away from Jesus, and they weren't 0:27:54.420 --> 0:27:57.220 going to stop him from telling other people. And so 0:27:57.220 --> 0:27:59.979 he was stabbed to death, leaving behind a wife and 0:27:59.980 --> 0:28:03.140 two young children. That happened in 2021. Within 0:31:31.490 --> 0:31:34.850 a year, he had led 80 other people to Christ. 0:31:34.850 --> 0:31:36.969 So so this is not somebody who got saved and 0:31:36.970 --> 0:31:39.810 then was real quiet about it. Within a year, he 0:31:39.810 --> 0:31:42.170 had led 80 people to Christ. He had planted a 0:31:42.170 --> 0:31:46.090 little church. Here's what seems to be what crossed the line. 0:31:46.090 --> 0:31:49.610 He had been threatened many times, but in May, early May, 0:31:50.010 --> 0:31:53.170 he had donated some of his own land to build 0:31:53.170 --> 0:31:55.610 a church building. So they were not just going to 0:31:55.610 --> 0:31:57.770 meet together as Christians. Now. They were going to have 0:31:57.770 --> 0:32:01.930 a church building in that community. That may have been 0:32:01.930 --> 0:32:04.450 what what was sort of the last straw for the 0:32:04.450 --> 0:32:07.130 Muslims who had threatened him. They were watching what he 0:32:07.220 --> 0:32:09.780 was doing, and now he's saying, hey, here's some property. 0:32:09.820 --> 0:32:12.660 We're going to build a church on May the 15th. 0:32:12.700 --> 0:32:17.060 A man dressed in Muslim clothing came up to Ibrahim Muhammad. 0:32:17.060 --> 0:32:20.460 He said, this is your last day witnessing and then 0:32:20.460 --> 0:32:24.340 shot him. Suddenly all their spells and 0:35:22.560 --> 0:35:25.799 all their things, they don't have power anymore. That's what 0:35:25.800 --> 0:35:28.560 makes them so angry. It's like, wait a minute. When 0:35:28.560 --> 0:35:31.080 the Christians came in, now we can't do what we 0:35:31.080 --> 0:35:34.520 were doing before. I'm encouraged by that because it shows 0:35:34.520 --> 0:35:37.040 us the power of God, but it doesn't make it 0:35:37.040 --> 0:35:40.000 any easier for our brothers and sisters. And what happened 0:35:40.000 --> 0:35:43.759 just last month is a lady, a Christian lady. She's 0:35:43.760 --> 0:35:47.120 been a Christian for 15 years, but she was beaten 0:35:47.120 --> 0:35:49.799 almost to death. In fact, she's in the hospital. Our 0:35:49.800 --> 0:35:53.400 contacts there are concerned whether she will survive or not. 0:35:53.880 --> 0:35:57.680 And this was by her own family, because she wouldn't 0:35:57.719 --> 0:36:01.250 lead them in the voodoo rituals. That is sort of 0:36:01.290 --> 0:36:03.890 her job as the matriarch of the family. They wanted 0:36:03.890 --> 0:36:05.490 to kill her because of that. 0:36:06.010 --> 0:36:09.130 Wow. Unbelievable. Todd, tell me 0:37:30.100 --> 0:37:30.700 the story. 0:37:31.020 --> 0:37:34.339 Yeah. Unfortunately, this is very fresh. So our brother we 0:37:34.340 --> 0:37:38.380 mentioned in Ethiopia was shot on May the 15th. May 23rd, 0:37:38.420 --> 0:37:42.219 eight days later in Burkina Faso. Across the continent of Africa, 0:37:42.540 --> 0:37:46.500 a large group of jihadists came into a village in 0:37:46.500 --> 0:37:50.900 Burkina Faso, and they began to attack. And it's interesting 0:37:50.900 --> 0:37:53.900 to me because the first home they went to was 0:37:53.900 --> 0:37:57.339 the home of the pastor in that village, the pastor 0:37:57.390 --> 0:38:00.670 and five other Christians were actually sitting in the courtyard 0:38:00.670 --> 0:38:03.830 of the home. They heard the jihadist coming and they fled. Uh, 0:38:03.830 --> 0:38:06.029 just just like we would do, they literally ran for 0:38:06.030 --> 0:38:09.750 their lives. Well, unfortunately, they were all captured and shot. 0:38:09.750 --> 0:38:14.029 So the pastor, five Christians martyred that day by the jihadist, 0:38:14.030 --> 0:38:17.390 they then started going house to house and burning down homes. 0:38:17.390 --> 0:38:19.989 And so by the time they were done, more than 0:38:19.989 --> 0:38:22.870 a thousand Christians, most of them are women and children. 0:38:22.870 --> 0:38:26.550 More than a thousand Christians were displaced by that attack. 0:38:26.750 --> 0:38:28.750 They had to flee. Some of the people in the 0:38:28.750 --> 0:38:32.029 next village heard about the threat. They also fled from 0:38:32.030 --> 0:38:36.750 their homes. This is unfortunately another day in Burkina Faso. 0:38:36.790 --> 0:38:40.670 Like these kind of attacks are not out of the ordinary. 0:38:40.710 --> 0:38:43.989 They've become far too common. But I think going back 0:38:43.989 --> 0:38:46.469 to the what, what is really interesting to me, the 0:38:46.469 --> 0:38:48.710 first place they went was the home of the pastor. 0:38:48.950 --> 0:38:51.509 This wasn't just people who were angry or people who 0:38:51.510 --> 0:38:54.910 wanted to shoot somebody. They were looking for the leader 0:38:54.910 --> 0:38:57.629 of the Christians in this village. That's the first house 0:38:57.630 --> 0:38:58.510 that they went to. 0:38:59.110 --> 0:39:01.069 Now this is and I want to underscore this based 0:39:01.070 --> 0:39:03.830 on what you were telling us before about Benin. In 0:39:03.830 --> 0:39:07.350 this case, the salt comes from jihadists, right? Tied back 0:39:07.350 --> 0:39:07.950 to Islam. 0:39:08.270 --> 0:39:11.989 Yeah. This is coming from jihadists. Burkina Faso shares a 0:39:11.989 --> 0:39:16.190 border with Mali, which is pretty uncontrolled. And so they're 0:39:16.190 --> 0:39:19.190 jihadists coming back and forth across that border. They are 0:39:19.190 --> 0:39:21.630 able to come across, attack a village like this, and 0:39:21.630 --> 0:39:25.150 then go back across into Mali. And really, the Burkina 0:39:25.150 --> 0:39:28.710 Faso government and the soldiers there haven't been able to 0:39:28.750 --> 0:39:32.110 provide security. They haven't been able to sort of keep 0:39:32.110 --> 0:39:33.589 these attacks from happening. 0:39:33.989 --> 0:39:36.469 This is a terrible question to ask, but are they 0:39:36.469 --> 0:39:41.910 unable to provide or are they unwilling to provide that? 0:39:42.070 --> 0:39:44.230 It is a terrible question, and it's a hard question 0:39:44.230 --> 0:39:46.790 to answer. But as I mentioned, these kind of 0:40:34.920 --> 0:40:38.400 attacks are happening like almost every week. And I, I 0:40:38.440 --> 0:40:42.120 think of one particular denomination that we are working alongside 0:40:42.120 --> 0:40:45.080 in Burkina Faso. In a matter of a three month span, 0:40:45.080 --> 0:40:48.720 they had six pastors killed. Um, and again, it's under 0:40:48.719 --> 0:40:51.719 the radar. It's not something that we're talking about, but 0:40:51.719 --> 0:40:55.610 it's reality for them every single week. Another attack, another attack, 0:40:55.650 --> 0:40:59.050 another village that had to flee. And so many displaced 0:40:59.050 --> 0:41:03.530 Christians and the church there is overwhelmed by the need of, 0:41:03.690 --> 0:41:06.129 you know, these Christians flee from the village and they 0:41:06.130 --> 0:41:08.569 come into the city, and then they show up at 0:41:08.570 --> 0:41:10.489 the church and say, hey, you know, we had to 0:41:10.489 --> 0:41:12.370 flee for our lives. Can you help us? And the 0:41:12.370 --> 0:41:14.410 church is like, man, we would love to help you, 0:41:14.410 --> 0:41:17.330 but we don't have the resources. That's actually part of 0:41:17.330 --> 0:41:19.609 what voice of the martyrs is doing, is equipping the 0:41:19.610 --> 0:41:22.210 church in Burkina Faso to be able to help some 0:41:22.210 --> 0:41:24.970 of these that are displaced from their homes and their villages. 0:41:25.010 --> 0:41:27.370 Wow. I'm glad I asked, because I just had this 0:41:27.370 --> 0:41:29.490 sense based on what you were saying about Burkina Faso, 0:41:29.530 --> 0:41:32.930 that maybe that was a particular problematic area. Let me 0:41:32.930 --> 0:41:35.890 linger if I can, just a little bit longer in Africa. Todd, 0:41:35.890 --> 0:41:37.730 what in the world is happening in Nigeria. 0:41:38.969 --> 0:41:41.529 That that was the other one. I was like, ah, 0:41:41.570 --> 0:41:44.969 should I mention Nigeria or Burkina Faso, northern Nigeria also, 0:41:45.010 --> 0:41:48.330 we see these kind of attacks and um, it's so 0:41:48.330 --> 0:41:51.819 frustrating because they happen. And then the government says, oh, 0:41:51.860 --> 0:41:53.540 we're going to put a stop to this. We're going 0:41:53.580 --> 0:41:57.900 to establish security. And then they don't. Um, and it's like, okay, 0:41:57.940 --> 0:42:01.299 another attack. Another attack. And we have seen, even in 0:42:01.300 --> 0:42:05.020 the last month, several really large scale attacks where a 0:42:05.020 --> 0:42:08.820 lot of people were affected. And so it is northern 0:42:08.820 --> 0:42:12.339 Nigeria also very, very difficult place to be a follower 0:42:12.340 --> 0:42:13.260 of Christ. 0:42:13.300 --> 0:42:17.100 Yeah, exactly. And again, let me ask you, because religious liberty, 0:42:17.100 --> 0:42:21.100 the geopolitics intersect, like it or not. So in Nigeria, 0:42:21.140 --> 0:42:25.219 because this is an ongoing people group specific assault, I mean, 0:42:25.219 --> 0:42:28.259 I was looking at some horrific pictures last weekend where 0:42:28.260 --> 0:42:30.660 their people are butchered. There's no other way to say it. 0:42:30.660 --> 0:42:32.780 I'll just say that and move on because it's so 0:42:32.820 --> 0:42:35.900 grotesque to contemplate. But what is the government doing to 0:42:35.940 --> 0:42:38.140 mitigate this in action? 0:42:38.180 --> 0:42:42.779 Foments right. Not not enough is the answer. And right now, 0:42:42.780 --> 0:42:45.180 what they're doing, and frankly, for years what they've been 0:42:45.180 --> 0:42:47.580 doing is talking. Uh oh. Yeah. You know, we have heard stories where armed 0:43:05.780 --> 0:43:10.460 military people stepped aside and let an attack happen. Um, 0:43:10.500 --> 0:43:15.180 and so it's like if that animosity between Christian and 0:43:15.180 --> 0:43:19.420 Muslim that sometimes supersedes your job, it supersedes your uniform. 0:43:19.420 --> 0:43:22.700 It's like, well, wait a minute. If you're attacking the 0:43:22.700 --> 0:43:25.580 people I consider my enemies, why would I get in 0:43:25.580 --> 0:43:29.180 your way of doing that? And so it is frustrating 0:43:29.180 --> 0:43:32.580 how often the Nigerian government talks about religious freedom, how 0:43:32.580 --> 0:43:36.500 often they talk about protecting their citizens who are religious minorities, 0:43:36.780 --> 0:43:39.620 and then comparing that to what actually happens. We have heard reports just in the 0:43:56.469 --> 0:44:00.990 last few weeks that they are more actively pursuing Christians, 0:44:00.989 --> 0:44:05.550 especially Christian leaders.
