And 0:01:36.880 --> 0:01:41.040 in our relief. Sometimes we overeat. We overindulge. Some of 0:01:41.040 --> 0:01:43.360 us have tried to camouflage that pain or deal with 0:01:43.360 --> 0:01:47.480 that pain by, um, you have tried. You have gone 0:01:47.480 --> 0:01:50.960 down the road of workaholism to try to forget about 0:01:50.960 --> 0:01:52.840 the pain. Some of you have tried to drink the 0:01:52.840 --> 0:01:54.960 pain away. Some of you have tried to smoke the 0:01:54.960 --> 0:01:57.280 pain away. Some of you have tried to sex the 0:01:57.280 --> 0:02:01.010 pain away. Some of you have tried to, uh, Achieve 0:02:01.010 --> 0:02:04.290 the pain away. Some of you have tried to, uh, 0:02:04.410 --> 0:02:08.210 just have fun. Fun? The pain away. You've tried a 0:02:08.210 --> 0:02:10.450 lot of ways to get away from that pain, but 0:02:10.450 --> 0:02:15.850 you know it's still there. The Bible tells us in 0:02:15.850 --> 0:02:22.450 verse 27 when she heard about Jesus. If you're taking notes, 0:02:22.450 --> 0:02:27.130 write this down. Faith is birthed by hearing and fueled 0:02:27.330 --> 0:02:34.290 by our thinking. When she heard about Jesus. She came 0:02:34.290 --> 0:02:40.810 up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak 0:02:41.090 --> 0:02:47.049 because she thought, if I just touch his clothes, I 0:02:47.050 --> 0:02:52.690 will be healed. There's something about the name of Jesus. 0:02:54.850 --> 0:03:02.090 When she heard about Jesus. She never met Jesus. She 0:03:02.090 --> 0:03:05.010 didn't know Jesus. She'd never seen Jesus, but she heard 0:03:05.010 --> 0:03:09.169 about him. There's something about Jesus that when you hear 0:03:09.169 --> 0:03:16.930 about him. It bursts. Something inside of you. The hope, 0:03:17.889 --> 0:03:26.290 the healer, the Savior. When you hear about Jesus, there's 0:03:26.290 --> 0:03:31.570 something you're wired spiritually to react and respond to. The 0:03:31.570 --> 0:03:37.810 name of Jesus. You're created by your divine creator to 0:03:37.850 --> 0:03:42.730 have a longing for relationship with him. You don't always 0:03:42.730 --> 0:03:45.450 know it. You can't explain it. But there's something inside 0:03:45.450 --> 0:03:48.610 every single one of us that desires a relationship with 0:03:48.610 --> 0:03:52.010 our creator. And when she heard about Jesus, something was 0:03:52.010 --> 0:03:54.730 awakened inside of her. In fact, I believe that there's 0:03:54.730 --> 0:03:58.210 some people here in this auditorium today that you can't 0:03:58.210 --> 0:04:00.370 even believe you're in a church today. You're like, what 0:04:00.370 --> 0:04:02.420 am I doing in a church today? This is kind 0:04:02.460 --> 0:04:05.700 of crazy that me in a church, people are waving 0:04:05.700 --> 0:04:07.540 their hands like that. I'm like, this is so weird. 0:04:07.540 --> 0:04:09.180 I don't even know what I'm doing. What am I 0:04:09.220 --> 0:04:11.380 doing in a church? Some of you have wanted to run, 0:04:11.380 --> 0:04:14.460 but you know why you're here? Because you've heard about Jesus. 0:04:20.380 --> 0:04:22.820 You don't know what it is, but there's something about 0:04:22.820 --> 0:04:25.700 the longing in your heart that desires to connect with 0:04:25.700 --> 0:04:29.460 the divine, that desires to connect with that which has 0:04:29.460 --> 0:04:33.900 made you. And you're you're you're afraid, but yet you're drawn. 0:04:33.940 --> 0:04:36.700 You want it, but yet you're afraid. You're not sure 0:04:36.740 --> 0:04:42.339 exactly what it is. When she heard about Jesus. It 0:04:42.380 --> 0:04:46.460 motivated her. And in her mind, she started to think, 0:04:46.820 --> 0:04:50.140 maybe if I just reach out and touch the hem 0:04:50.140 --> 0:04:54.219 of his garment, maybe if I just touch him, then 0:04:54.220 --> 0:04:57.900 maybe I will be healed. Maybe he's the solution that 0:04:57.900 --> 0:05:01.700 I've been wanting, asking for, praying for, longing for in 0:05:01.700 --> 0:05:06.620 my life. In Matthew chapter nine, verse 21, when it 0:05:06.620 --> 0:05:10.700 tells this story, it uses the verbiage that she repeated 0:05:10.700 --> 0:05:16.020 to herself. So she kept repeating to herself, how many 0:05:16.020 --> 0:05:20.700 of you talk to yourself? Some of you say it's 0:05:20.700 --> 0:05:23.620 the only intelligent conversation I've had just talking to myself. 0:05:25.500 --> 0:05:28.940 Come on, you can admit it. Your spouse says, were 0:05:28.940 --> 0:05:30.860 you talking to me? No, I'm just talking to myself. 0:05:33.580 --> 0:05:36.500 And sometimes we have this conversation with ourselves. And in 0:05:36.500 --> 0:05:39.300 her mind, she was saying, if I just touch Jesus, 0:05:39.300 --> 0:05:42.700 faith has been birthed in her. Faith that was undeveloped. 0:05:42.700 --> 0:05:46.300 Faith that was not really theologically grounded, but faith that 0:05:46.300 --> 0:05:49.859 had risen within her. This dream of if I just 0:05:49.860 --> 0:05:53.020 touch him, maybe I believe maybe he is the Messiah. 0:05:53.060 --> 0:05:55.620 Maybe he's the one who he says he is. And 0:05:55.620 --> 0:05:58.660 so she thought to herself, if I can just touch 0:05:58.700 --> 0:06:01.070 it now, it doesn't tell us in Mark, but in 0:06:01.070 --> 0:06:04.830 Luke and in Matthew it tells us that she reached 0:06:04.830 --> 0:06:10.910 out and she touched the tassels on his garment. Now 0:06:10.910 --> 0:06:16.589 you say, well, what's that? Well, the tassel, if you 0:06:16.630 --> 0:06:19.070 know what a tassel is like a curtain or a blanket. 0:06:19.070 --> 0:06:23.030 We don't walk around with tassels typically now. But the 0:06:23.029 --> 0:06:28.190 tassel was something that religious Jewish men wore. It was 0:06:28.190 --> 0:06:32.190 a like a blanket that they wore that had tassels 0:06:32.190 --> 0:06:35.669 on every on the four corners. Now, it was important 0:06:35.670 --> 0:06:42.710 to the Jewish man because these tassels had 613 knots 0:06:42.710 --> 0:06:50.630 in them. Those 613 knots represented the 613 laws of 0:06:50.630 --> 0:06:56.230 Moses found in the Old Testament. So when a Jewish 0:06:56.230 --> 0:06:59.030 man went to pray, he would put this. He would 0:06:59.029 --> 0:07:02.150 put this sort of outer garment over his head. The 0:07:02.150 --> 0:07:06.589 prayer garment and these tassels would hang there. It represented 0:07:06.589 --> 0:07:10.550 the holiness of God, the law of God. And so 0:07:10.550 --> 0:07:14.830 when this woman reached out to touch the tassel on 0:07:14.830 --> 0:07:21.630 Jesus garment, these tassels represented the law, the holiness of God. 0:07:21.670 --> 0:07:27.470 So listen, this woman, full of shame and pain, is 0:07:27.470 --> 0:07:32.110 reaching out to touch something that represents the holiness of God. 0:07:33.230 --> 0:07:36.310 You see it there. When we reach out to touch 0:07:36.310 --> 0:07:38.950 that which is holy, immediately do we feel like I'm 0:07:38.950 --> 0:07:42.750 unworthy to touch that which is holy? And this is 0:07:42.750 --> 0:07:48.950 significant because Luke and Matthew indicate that it's the tassel 0:07:48.950 --> 0:07:52.030 that she's reaching out to touch. It's an act of faith, 0:07:52.030 --> 0:07:55.870 and she's reaching out to touch, believing that, hey, Jesus, 0:07:55.870 --> 0:07:59.030 if I just touch you, maybe just the hem of 0:07:59.030 --> 0:08:02.080 your garment that something will be released and I will 0:08:02.080 --> 0:08:08.040 be changed. Then the Bible goes on and tells us. 0:08:09.840 --> 0:08:15.960 I love this. It says immediately when she touched the tassel, 0:08:17.560 --> 0:08:22.120 her bleeding stopped. Now I want you to picture what's happening. 0:08:23.640 --> 0:08:28.640 She's in a crowd. They're pressing up against each other. 0:08:28.800 --> 0:08:32.680 She's not supposed to be in a crowd. Anybody that 0:08:32.679 --> 0:08:37.080 touches her is unclean. They don't know it, but she 0:08:37.080 --> 0:08:41.000 knows it. She feels like I'm making all these people 0:08:41.000 --> 0:08:44.680 unclean that touch me. But she's pressing through the crowd. 0:08:44.679 --> 0:08:48.760 They're bumping up against her. She's pressing and pushing, and 0:08:48.760 --> 0:08:52.480 she sees Jesus right over there. And in her mind 0:08:52.480 --> 0:08:56.040 she says, if I can just touch the hem of 0:08:56.040 --> 0:08:57.920 his garment. Have you ever been in a crowd that's 0:08:57.920 --> 0:09:00.920 really crowded and you're pressing up against each other and 0:09:00.920 --> 0:09:03.000 you feel like you're going to be smashed. Anybody felt 0:09:03.000 --> 0:09:08.160 that way before? It's a scary thing, right? My son, 0:09:08.160 --> 0:09:14.160 when he was 16, he took me to a. A 0:09:14.160 --> 0:09:19.800 concert at the Metro. A bunch of screamo music. He 0:09:19.800 --> 0:09:22.200 said they were Christian. I couldn't understand a word that 0:09:22.200 --> 0:09:28.920 they were saying. It just sounded like this. And I said, son, 0:09:28.960 --> 0:09:36.679 are they Christian? Yeah, dad. They were packed out. Crowded. 0:09:37.600 --> 0:09:41.760 I was watching from the balcony and a girl next 0:09:41.760 --> 0:09:43.800 to her says, I was last year. I went down 0:09:43.800 --> 0:09:45.679 there in a mosh pit and they broke my jaw. 0:09:45.720 --> 0:09:50.680 I said, wow. And so Josiah, my son, he looks 0:09:50.679 --> 0:09:52.320 at me and he says, dad, I bet you won't 0:09:52.320 --> 0:09:55.880 go down there. Don't dare your dad when you're 16. 0:09:56.760 --> 0:10:00.080 So next thing, I'm in the crowd like this, looking 0:10:00.080 --> 0:10:04.650 at my son up there going. And then a mosh 0:10:04.650 --> 0:10:07.650 pit breaks out right beside me. I look up at 0:10:07.650 --> 0:10:10.449 my son and I jump right into it, just all over, 0:10:10.490 --> 0:10:13.410 you know, acting crazy. And then no other one breaks 0:10:13.410 --> 0:10:17.530 out and I'm jumping, acting crazy. And then I get 0:10:17.530 --> 0:10:19.290 up there, I said, I hope no one saw me. 0:10:22.490 --> 0:10:25.050 I walk out in front and someone comes up and says, hey, 0:10:25.050 --> 0:10:28.809 pastor Mark, um, great to see you at the concert. Yeah, 0:10:28.850 --> 0:10:32.570 I'm just here with my 16 year old son. They said, 0:10:32.610 --> 0:10:34.610 you know, we saw you in the mosh pit. It 0:10:34.610 --> 0:10:38.130 was really cool. In fact, we we tweeted it out. 0:10:38.170 --> 0:10:42.610 It's like, okay, thanks a lot. Yeah, but the crowd 0:10:42.610 --> 0:10:46.130 was pressing, pressing, pressing. And this woman is reaching out. 0:10:46.130 --> 0:10:49.010 She sees Jesus, the tassel. If I could just touch it. 0:10:49.010 --> 0:10:52.210 The Bible says that she's reaching out in shame, knowing 0:10:52.250 --> 0:10:55.690 that everybody that she's touching is making them unclean. But 0:10:55.690 --> 0:10:57.770 she thinks in her mind. If I could just touch 0:10:57.770 --> 0:11:00.290 the hem of his garment. And so she reaches through 0:11:00.290 --> 0:11:02.929 the crowd and she touches the hem of his garment 0:11:02.929 --> 0:11:07.290 and suddenly she knows. The Bible says immediately, because faith 0:11:07.290 --> 0:11:10.170 works that way. Every good thing that comes from God 0:11:10.170 --> 0:11:13.770 comes via the faith. Faith is the conduit by which 0:11:13.770 --> 0:11:17.810 all the good of God travels. Grace comes through faith. 0:11:17.850 --> 0:11:22.170 Salvation comes through faith. Healing comes through faith. So she's feeling it. 0:13:23.740 --> 0:13:27.860 The crowd still. Jesus is still walking. And she's there 0:13:27.860 --> 0:13:32.500 feeling it like something's happened. I feel it. You see, there's a difference between bumping 0:13:52.140 --> 0:13:57.140 in to the sacred and reaching out in desperate faith 0:13:57.140 --> 0:14:09.590 to touch the sacred. Augustine long ago said flesh presses, 0:14:09.870 --> 0:14:15.510 but faith touches. He can always distinguish between the jostle 0:14:15.510 --> 0:14:20.150 of a curious mob and the agonized touch of a 0:14:20.150 --> 0:14:25.150 needy soul. There's a difference. You know, there's a lot 0:14:25.150 --> 0:14:27.110 of people in a crowd like this here on a 0:14:27.110 --> 0:14:31.230 Sunday morning, and you can bump up against the sacred, 0:14:31.630 --> 0:14:34.310 but it doesn't mean that everybody's reaching out in faith 0:14:34.310 --> 0:14:40.190 to touch the sacred. Oh, we're all around it. The sound, 0:14:40.190 --> 0:14:43.910 the music, the word, the Bible, the presence of Jesus. 0:14:43.910 --> 0:14:47.670 But not everybody receives the same. Because not everybody here 0:14:47.670 --> 0:14:53.830 is reaching out in desperate, faith filled focus to say, 0:14:53.950 --> 0:14:58.150 I need a touch of the Savior. You can be 0:14:58.150 --> 0:15:02.000 in a crowd, listen like this. And someone right beside you. 0:15:02.000 --> 0:15:05.080 You may not even know, but God has touched them, 0:15:05.080 --> 0:15:08.560 dealt with them. Something is happening in their soul. And 0:15:08.560 --> 0:15:11.120 you may be sitting two rows back saying, hey, what's 0:15:11.120 --> 0:15:13.640 going on with that person? You know what? Because in 0:15:13.640 --> 0:15:16.800 their faith, they've reached out their invisible hand of faith. 0:15:16.800 --> 0:15:19.440 They've reached out to the God that they so desperately 0:15:19.440 --> 0:15:22.360 need and say, God, I need you. And something has 0:15:22.360 --> 0:15:25.760 happened within their soul. O that maybe hasn't happened to 0:15:25.760 --> 0:15:29.160 everybody around them, because they've reached out in desperation and 0:15:29.160 --> 0:15:32.120 faith to touch the sacred. And as they had the 0:15:32.120 --> 0:15:35.440 supernatural power of God is released into their spirit and 0:15:35.440 --> 0:15:47.880 something divine is happening within their soul. Number four, our 0:15:47.880 --> 0:15:52.680 wholeness and healing is not complete until he touches the 0:15:52.680 --> 0:15:57.640 core of our being. The Bible says in verse 32 0:15:57.680 --> 0:16:01.880 two But Jesus I kept looking around to see who 0:16:01.880 --> 0:16:07.240 had done it, and then the woman, knowing what had 0:16:07.240 --> 0:16:11.360 happened to her, came and fell at his feet, trembling 0:16:11.360 --> 0:16:18.000 with fear, and told him the whole truth. I asked 0:16:18.000 --> 0:16:21.720 myself Jesus was in a hurry. There was a little 0:16:21.720 --> 0:16:26.520 girl that was dying. Why did he insist on calling 0:16:26.520 --> 0:16:29.239 out a woman who didn't want to be called out? 0:16:31.320 --> 0:16:37.800 He stops and says, where is she? Who touched me? 0:16:39.000 --> 0:16:41.440 The disciples of Jesus were in a hurry. Jerry is 0:16:41.440 --> 0:16:44.680 his daughter's dying. This is important, man. Keep going. There's 0:16:44.680 --> 0:16:47.960 a lot of people around. Why are you stopping? He 0:16:47.960 --> 0:16:51.040 could have walked away, but he stopped. I think there 0:16:51.040 --> 0:16:55.200 was an important. There was an important reason that he stopped. 0:16:56.520 --> 0:17:01.120 He wanted this woman to have more than Healing. He 0:17:01.120 --> 0:17:05.880 wanted this woman to have wholeness. Can I tell you something? 0:17:07.960 --> 0:17:11.560 She could have walked away a healed woman, but never 0:17:11.560 --> 0:17:16.879 experienced the wholeness that she needed in her life. Because 0:17:16.880 --> 0:17:20.240 her problem was more than just bleeding. Her problem was 0:17:20.240 --> 0:17:24.480 shame and condemnation. And I want you to notice that 0:17:25.200 --> 0:17:28.160 when Jesus says, who touched me? Who touched me? He's 0:17:28.160 --> 0:17:30.639 the Son of Man. He knows. He knows who touched him. 0:17:31.720 --> 0:17:36.640 He needed her to come out. He needed her to 0:17:36.680 --> 0:17:41.160 speak out. He needed her to acknowledge I am the 0:17:41.160 --> 0:17:44.800 one who you have touched. I am the one that 0:17:44.800 --> 0:17:49.639 God has worked in. Listen. The Bible says that she 0:17:49.640 --> 0:17:53.399 fell down in fear and trembling. Why was she fearful? 0:17:53.400 --> 0:17:56.480 And why was she trembling? Because when you reach out 0:17:56.480 --> 0:18:00.490 in shame and in guilt and condemnation, nation feeling unworthy, 0:18:00.690 --> 0:18:04.210 and you touch the holy. You always feel like I'm 0:18:04.250 --> 0:18:07.370 not worthy to touch the Holy. It was her shame 0:18:07.369 --> 0:18:11.649 and guilt and condemnation that caused her to fall in trembling. 0:18:11.650 --> 0:18:15.170 But Jesus knew that something more needed to happen. And 0:18:15.170 --> 0:18:18.410 I love how Jesus. What happened here? The Bible says 0:18:18.410 --> 0:18:24.650 she told them the whole truth. And he said to her. Daughter, 0:18:26.609 --> 0:18:28.570 you know, it's the only place in the Bible where 0:18:28.609 --> 0:18:33.369 Jesus speaks to a woman and calls her daughter. I 0:18:33.369 --> 0:18:37.850 don't know how old she was. But she needed to 0:18:37.890 --> 0:18:44.129 hear the sacred, the holy, the Messiah say to her, 0:18:45.369 --> 0:18:49.609 you're not rejected. You're not condemned. You're not unclean.
