So how do we step up 0:03:05.190 --> 0:03:09.209 to a different attitude? You find yourself that your attitude 0:03:09.210 --> 0:03:13.230 is not where it needs to be. Because let me 0:03:13.230 --> 0:03:16.139 tell you something. The world is always going to disappoint you. 0:03:18.060 --> 0:03:20.460 I want you to hear me well. The world is 0:03:20.460 --> 0:03:23.250 always going to disappoint. There's nothing in this world that 0:03:23.250 --> 0:03:28.410 will fill you forever. It will fill you temporarily. But 0:03:28.410 --> 0:03:30.210 there will come a day that you will look at 0:03:30.210 --> 0:03:32.550 what the world has to offer. And you will say, 0:03:32.550 --> 0:03:38.130 is this it? God, his love, his mercy, his forgiveness, 0:03:38.130 --> 0:03:40.890 his power is the only thing that can ever satisfy 0:03:40.890 --> 0:03:44.309 and fill the longing of your spirit. And so James talks to the people. 0:04:34.790 --> 0:04:40.220 And he says to them how to change their attitude. 0:04:40.640 --> 0:04:46.040 And he says, listen, verse six, But God, but he, 0:04:46.070 --> 0:04:55.700 God gives more grace. Say more with me. More. I 0:04:55.700 --> 0:04:57.589 don't know what you want in life, but you cannot 0:04:57.589 --> 0:05:05.100 live without Grace. You say what? What is grace? Grace 0:05:05.100 --> 0:05:13.020 is the unmerited, undeserved favor of God. Grace is God's favor. 0:05:14.160 --> 0:05:18.630 When you have God's favor, you have the most powerful 0:05:18.630 --> 0:05:22.740 force in the universe on your side. When you have 0:05:22.740 --> 0:05:27.029 God's favor, you have God's goodness pouring into your life. 0:05:27.060 --> 0:05:30.090 When you have God's favor, doors open up. When you 0:05:30.089 --> 0:05:34.469 have God's favor, there's a sense of his blessing, his goodness, 0:05:34.470 --> 0:05:37.740 his joy that's flowing on your life. Oh, grace is given to everybody. 0:05:50.820 --> 0:05:55.409 But some people have more grace than other people. You say, well, 0:05:55.410 --> 0:05:59.880 why does that person have so much favor? You know, there are certain things that repel, 0:06:14.450 --> 0:06:18.230 and there's other things that attract. Some people go and 0:06:18.230 --> 0:06:20.240 spend a lot of money on perfumes. They think this 0:06:20.240 --> 0:06:22.790 is this. They see the commercial where a guy sprays 0:06:22.790 --> 0:06:24.440 a little Cologne on them, and he's got a bunch 0:06:24.440 --> 0:06:30.050 of beautiful women around. They're like, where's that? Spray? A 0:06:30.050 --> 0:06:32.630 little bit you go like this, and no one but 0:06:32.630 --> 0:06:34.729 your dog comes and you're like, oh, well, what's going 0:06:34.730 --> 0:06:40.820 on here? I have a tendency, you know, some people 0:06:40.820 --> 0:06:44.720 attract mosquitoes and some people can just go out and 0:06:44.720 --> 0:06:49.100 never be bitten. I'm like a magnet. So the mosquitoes are like, no, 0:08:02.900 --> 0:08:06.500 I don't like that. There is a repellent to the 0:08:06.500 --> 0:08:09.710 grace of God. There is something that when God gets 0:08:09.710 --> 0:08:13.730 around you, he withdraws his favor from you because he says, no, no, no, 0:08:13.730 --> 0:08:16.580 I don't even want to be around that. You know 0:08:16.580 --> 0:08:20.090 what repels the grace of God? You know what causes 0:08:20.090 --> 0:08:22.370 the grace of God to pull away from you more 0:08:22.400 --> 0:08:25.040 than anything else? What causes the grace of God to 0:08:25.070 --> 0:08:27.830 just get away from you? The grace of God doesn't 0:08:27.830 --> 0:08:30.440 want to land on it. Be near it. Come close 0:08:30.440 --> 0:08:33.530 to you. He smells it on you and he backtracks 0:08:33.530 --> 0:08:36.530 from you. The Bible is very clear about this. Listen, 0:08:36.530 --> 0:08:41.210 it says God opposes the proud. Come on. God opposes 0:08:41.210 --> 0:08:53.900 the proud, but he gives grace to the humble. Humility 0:08:53.929 --> 0:09:02.490 attracts the favor of God. Pride repels the favor of God. Now, 0:09:02.490 --> 0:09:05.400 some people have a wrong idea of what pride and 0:09:05.400 --> 0:09:11.250 humility look like. Some people think that if you're humble, 0:09:11.250 --> 0:09:14.340 you walk around with your head low all the time. 0:09:14.340 --> 0:09:16.050 When someone says, hi, how are you doing? You can 0:09:16.050 --> 0:09:20.490 barely look up and say, hi. I'm, you know, staring 0:09:20.490 --> 0:09:24.960 down at your shoes. No, no, that's insecurity, not humbleness. 0:09:27.179 --> 0:09:31.709 There's a difference between being humble and being insecure. Jesus 0:09:31.710 --> 0:09:37.380 was humble, but he was. He was bold. He looked 0:09:37.380 --> 0:09:43.320 people in the eye. He spoke directly. He loved Moses. 0:09:43.350 --> 0:09:45.900 It says he was the most humble man of his day. 0:09:45.900 --> 0:09:51.240 Yet Moses led a couple million people into liberty. He 0:09:51.240 --> 0:09:54.630 stood up to the powerful forces of a nation in 0:09:54.630 --> 0:09:57.450 the name of God. Yet he was not a proud man. 0:09:57.450 --> 0:10:03.440 He was a humble man. Humility is the right assessment 0:10:03.440 --> 0:10:09.950 of who you are before God. Humility is recognizing reality 0:10:09.950 --> 0:10:12.829 that you are small and God is great and that 0:10:12.830 --> 0:10:24.320 you deeply, deeply need God. That's humility. Humility causes you 0:10:24.350 --> 0:10:27.230 not to judge someone else because, you know, if it 0:10:27.260 --> 0:10:29.300 were not for the grace of God, I would be 0:10:29.300 --> 0:10:33.320 in your same situation. Humility causes you to pray because 0:10:33.320 --> 0:10:36.470 you know how much you need the wisdom of God. 0:10:36.500 --> 0:10:39.740 Humility causes you not to brag about yourself, because you 0:10:39.740 --> 0:10:42.350 know that everything that you have has been given to 0:10:42.380 --> 0:10:46.370 you from on high. Humility causes you not to not 0:10:46.370 --> 0:10:49.429 to judge others quickly, because you know that you have 0:10:49.429 --> 0:10:52.189 been forgiven for so much and you need to forgive 0:10:52.220 --> 0:10:56.390 others for a lot as well. Humility causes you not 0:10:56.390 --> 0:10:59.780 to be intimidated by other people because you know they're 0:10:59.780 --> 0:11:03.010 mere human beings. The only one that you fear is 0:11:03.010 --> 0:11:08.590 God himself. Humility causes you to bow your knee before 0:11:08.590 --> 0:11:11.860 God and say, God, there's nothing or no one in 0:11:11.860 --> 0:11:14.829 this world that can fill me but you. God's 0:14:23.090 --> 0:14:25.580 favor is that way. He wants to give us his favor. 0:14:25.580 --> 0:14:27.920 He throws his favor at us. But if we're in 0:14:27.920 --> 0:14:31.280 a position of pride, we cannot receive his grace or 0:14:31.280 --> 0:14:36.440 his favor. We miss it. So submitting to God means 0:14:36.440 --> 0:14:40.940 to align ourselves under his authority. And there's three things 0:14:40.940 --> 0:14:44.630 that need to happen three practical steps to regain a 0:14:44.630 --> 0:14:47.750 new attitude. They're very simple. Resist the temptation to 0:15:01.810 --> 0:15:05.680 fill your life outside of God. You don't have to 0:15:26.440 --> 0:15:31.930 get married. Just live with her. It's easier. There's a 0:15:31.930 --> 0:15:34.240 better way outside of God's way. You don't have to 0:15:34.240 --> 0:15:37.060 tell the truth. Just lie. You can get away with it. 0:15:37.060 --> 0:15:42.610 There's a better way outside of God's way. Temptation is 0:16:20.750 --> 0:16:23.330 always going to be there, always going to be there. 0:16:23.480 --> 0:16:25.910 There's not a person in this auditorium that this week 0:16:25.910 --> 0:16:31.580 was not tempted. We're not all tempted with the same things. 0:16:32.870 --> 0:16:35.750 Your temptation may do nothing to me, but your. But 0:16:35.750 --> 0:16:40.760 my temptation may do nothing to you. Someone may be 0:16:40.760 --> 0:16:43.940 out there and say, man, I'm really fighting. I've been 0:16:43.940 --> 0:16:46.880 sober for six months and alcohol's a real temptation. I'm 0:16:46.880 --> 0:16:50.540 fighting it every day. I'm fighting it. I was never 0:16:50.540 --> 0:16:55.550 an alcoholic. Never, never struggled with alcoholism. So it's not 0:16:55.550 --> 0:16:59.600 a temptation for me. Doesn't draw me. Doesn't pull me. 0:17:01.260 --> 0:17:04.050 but for the person that's struggling with it, it's a major, 0:17:04.050 --> 0:17:09.750 major battle. There's someone else that may be out there 0:17:09.750 --> 0:17:14.850 that's struggling with their their thoughts of anxiety, and it's 0:17:14.850 --> 0:17:19.140 a real battle to to not fall into depression or anxiety. 0:17:19.380 --> 0:17:21.390 And someone else may be out there. They've always had 0:17:21.390 --> 0:17:24.689 a real positive mentality. They've never struggled with depression, so 0:17:24.690 --> 0:17:27.540 their temptation doesn't affect the other person. But we all 0:17:27.540 --> 0:17:30.750 have our temptations, every single one of us. And the 0:17:30.750 --> 0:17:33.900 root of every temptation is the same. The enemy is 0:17:33.900 --> 0:17:36.149 going to lie to you and try to get you 0:17:36.150 --> 0:17:40.380 to fall into the trap. That is not God's way. 0:17:40.859 --> 0:17:44.310 And so we resist it. We fight it. We say no. 0:17:44.670 --> 0:17:47.939 So first of all, you resist. You resist the temptation 0:17:47.940 --> 0:17:52.439 to fill your life outside of God. Secondly, oh, I 0:17:52.440 --> 0:17:56.429 love this verse.
