All authority that he exercises 0:07:04.610 --> 0:07:08.330 today is fake. Now he comes to us, knocking on 0:07:08.330 --> 0:07:12.050 our door saying, hey, you still owe me, but we don't. 0:07:12.410 --> 0:07:16.330 But here's another exciting thing. You'll notice that it says 0:07:16.330 --> 0:07:21.410 that Jesus disarmed principalities and powers, triumphing over them and 0:07:21.410 --> 0:07:26.050 and putting him to an open shame. In the imagery 0:07:26.050 --> 0:07:30.570 that Paul is using is Rome used to take defeated 0:07:30.570 --> 0:07:36.090 kings and march them through the city of Rome in humiliation, 0:07:36.690 --> 0:07:40.090 because they were the losers and Rome was triumphant. And 0:07:40.090 --> 0:07:44.330 that's the imagery here. Yeah, Jesus Christ put the devil 0:07:44.370 --> 0:07:48.810 to an open shame, and he has shamed the devil. 0:07:49.050 --> 0:07:53.410 So the bottom line. We send Jesus to 0:09:03.090 --> 0:09:07.170 the door, so to speak, and say, oh, you're knocking 0:09:07.170 --> 0:09:11.610 on my door. Guess what? I have a guest who 0:09:11.610 --> 0:09:15.050 has taken care of you. Jesus. You go and you 0:09:15.050 --> 0:09:16.730 fight this battle for me. 0:09:17.050 --> 0:09:18.569 So I rebuke you. Just because Jesus Christ won a 0:11:10.700 --> 0:11:15.260 legal victory, that does not mean that it is automatic. 0:11:15.780 --> 0:11:19.460 That's why you have in the Scripture the war against 0:11:19.460 --> 0:11:23.820 the devil putting on the armor of God. It means 0:11:23.820 --> 0:11:27.540 we yield ourselves to the Lord every single day. And I think 0:12:13.220 --> 0:12:19.420 of all of the exercise and the discipline that is 0:12:19.420 --> 0:12:24.140 needed to attain that kind of recognition. And Paul says 0:12:24.140 --> 0:12:28.140 they do it to receive a corruptible crown. Could you 0:12:28.140 --> 0:12:32.459 even imagine what would happen if we had the discipline 0:12:32.460 --> 0:12:35.340 that they have? But at the same time, as Carl 0:12:35.340 --> 0:12:41.620 likes to emphasize, this isn't human, Will. This isn't self-help. 0:12:42.179 --> 0:12:46.939 It is enlisting God's help. Talk about the importance of community. So that community has to 0:16:21.580 --> 0:16:25.020 be found. If we're talking to people who have been 0:16:25.020 --> 0:16:29.380 hurt by the church. I understand that.
