But how are we then, to look 0:00:55.080 --> 0:00:57.880 at ourselves? Sure, we can really think that we deserve 0:01:46.760 --> 0:01:50.520 to be able to worship. And the psalmist 0:04:05.710 --> 0:04:10.150 says worship is a privilege because I get to call 0:04:10.150 --> 0:04:12.190 on God in prayer. So let me go back to 0:04:12.230 --> 0:04:13.990 the oh, let me go back to the oh, look 0:04:13.990 --> 0:04:17.950 at the text. O thou that hearest prayer unto thee 0:04:17.950 --> 0:04:20.750 shall all flesh come. Now, last week, anybody want to 0:04:20.750 --> 0:04:28.349 stand up and tell us what O means? Exclamation point! Excitement, enthusiasm. 0:04:28.350 --> 0:04:31.550 So he says in verse one, praise Waiteth for thee. 0:04:31.550 --> 0:04:34.470 I can't wait to praise God. Hey, listen, how many 0:04:34.470 --> 0:04:40.830 of you understand that worship is not a spectator sport? 0:04:41.029 --> 0:04:45.750 It's a participatory sport that all of us ought to 0:04:45.750 --> 0:04:51.390 be engaged in worship. So here he says, oh, I'm 0:04:51.390 --> 0:04:55.390 excited about you, God. I'm waiting to praise you. I'm getting ready to sit down because I'm tired. 0:06:40.270 --> 0:06:42.390 I ain't been this tired a long time. It says 0:06:42.390 --> 0:06:46.029 to continue steadfastly in the apostles doctrine. They were consistent 0:06:46.029 --> 0:06:50.190 in four areas in acts chapter two. 42 Apostles doctrine. 0:06:50.190 --> 0:06:52.549 What was that? That was the Bible, the word of God. 0:06:52.589 --> 0:06:56.589 Because they didn't have a completed canon. So they had 0:06:56.589 --> 0:06:59.950 the Word of God given to them directly by the apostles. 0:06:59.950 --> 0:07:03.390 Then fellowship, social and spiritual. In other words, they came 0:07:03.390 --> 0:07:06.510 to church. They came, they, they, they gathered together house 0:07:06.510 --> 0:07:10.230 to house, every day in the breaking of bread. That's communion. 0:07:10.230 --> 0:07:14.070 Then it says, and prayers. And the church got together 0:07:14.070 --> 0:07:17.830 and prayed, and they prayed together, and there was power. 0:07:17.830 --> 0:07:21.790 You remember the power. Remember what happened? They beat them 0:07:21.790 --> 0:07:24.270 in acts four and five and said, don't say anything 0:07:24.270 --> 0:07:27.270 about Jesus. Anybody who's been beaten don't want to open 0:07:27.270 --> 0:07:30.310 their mouth again. And it says, and the church prayed, 0:07:30.310 --> 0:07:32.670 and the Holy Ghost filled them. And they went back 0:07:32.670 --> 0:07:36.030 on the same corner where they had been beaten, Elder Green. 0:07:36.030 --> 0:07:38.710 And they began to preach the word of God. Peter 0:07:38.710 --> 0:07:43.510 went to prison. What happened? An angel fetched Peter from 0:07:43.510 --> 0:07:49.670 the prison. Well, what fetched the angel? Prayer? And maybe 0:07:49.670 --> 0:07:52.790 we don't see what we need to be seeing because, 0:07:52.790 --> 0:07:56.230 like the psalmist, we don't understand that we ought to 0:07:56.230 --> 0:08:00.870 have consistency in prayer as well as we do in 0:08:00.870 --> 0:08:05.550 everything else that we do. See, the psalmist knows, 0:08:21.510 --> 0:08:23.989 and the church ought to know, that it's a privilege 0:08:23.990 --> 0:08:26.830 to worship God. Why? And the Christian that does not worship, fellowship 0:08:30.190 --> 0:08:32.710 and prayer is like a student who will not go 0:08:32.710 --> 0:08:36.349 to school. A soldier who went AWOL from the army, 0:08:36.390 --> 0:08:39.070 a businessman on a deserted island, a seaman on a 0:08:39.070 --> 0:08:42.630 ship without a crew, an author without readers, a child 0:08:42.630 --> 0:08:45.589 without a family, a football player without a team, a 0:08:45.590 --> 0:08:48.869 politician who tells the truth and a bee without a hive. 0:08:51.110 --> 0:08:53.670 And so look at here. What's he talking about? He 0:08:53.670 --> 0:08:57.950 says the consistency. Oh, but then notice the communion of prayer. 0:08:57.950 --> 0:09:02.940 Thou he says, O thou talking to God, and thou 0:09:02.980 --> 0:09:06.580 that heareth prayer, and unto thee shall all flesh come. Notice, 0:09:06.580 --> 0:09:09.100 notice what he's doing. He's trying to get us to 0:09:09.140 --> 0:09:12.260 understand something. He's talking to God. Well, that's what you 0:09:12.260 --> 0:09:16.420 do when you worship, right? Yeah. Well. Well, why now 0:09:16.540 --> 0:09:18.860 do you emphasize it in the context of a worship 0:09:18.860 --> 0:09:22.820 song that has to do with thanking God for the harvest? 0:09:22.860 --> 0:09:25.979 Why are you doing this? Prayer is primarily communion 0:09:37.860 --> 0:09:41.459 with God, because you can go into his presence in 0:09:41.460 --> 0:09:45.620 an attitude of prayer and never open your mouth. You 0:09:45.620 --> 0:09:48.979 can be still before him and know that he's God, 0:09:48.980 --> 0:09:52.339 but prayer is just the privilege of coming. Okay, I 0:09:52.340 --> 0:09:54.780 know you get it. In other words, it's communion with God. 0:09:55.340 --> 0:09:59.100 I wonder if you remember the story of the empty chair. New pastor said, 0:10:12.179 --> 0:10:13.900 can I go and talk to him? Said, sure. So 0:10:13.900 --> 0:10:17.339 he goes in and grabs a chair, sits down and 0:10:17.340 --> 0:10:20.220 starts talking to him and he says, uh, yeah, I'm 0:10:20.460 --> 0:10:22.819 going to be with the Lord. I finally get to 0:10:22.820 --> 0:10:24.060 talk to him. He said, well, you talk to him 0:10:24.059 --> 0:10:26.260 every day, don't you know? He said, you know, this 0:10:26.260 --> 0:10:28.020 prayer thing is kind of rough for me. So I 0:10:28.020 --> 0:10:32.900 don't pray. You never pray. No, I've never prayed. Why? And the 0:11:20.340 --> 0:11:23.260 pastor said, let me tell you what happened. And he 0:11:23.260 --> 0:11:27.860 told her he understood. Before he left here, prayer was 0:11:27.860 --> 0:11:32.500 communion with Jesus. And he put his head in the 0:11:32.500 --> 0:11:36.500 lap of Jesus Christ and went home to be with him. 0:11:37.140 --> 0:11:39.700 Now notice notice the other two things. He he's confident 0:11:39.700 --> 0:11:44.140 about the prayer. He says he hears prayer and he 0:11:44.140 --> 0:11:48.140 has a conviction about it.
