So that girl, as a freshman in college, 0:02:24.530 --> 0:02:28.730 feels this incredible gratitude to her mother for paying off 0:02:28.730 --> 0:02:31.490 her a bill that she couldn't pay. She's been working 0:02:31.490 --> 0:02:33.370 and working and getting more and more in debt and 0:02:33.370 --> 0:02:35.210 couldn't do it on her own. And her mother has 0:02:35.210 --> 0:02:38.810 just paid off her complete debt, so now she owes nothing. 0:02:42.130 --> 0:02:45.730 What do you think is the response of this girl? And so the Apostle Paul 0:06:33.310 --> 0:06:37.750 reminds us that those who live according to the flesh 0:06:37.750 --> 0:06:40.430 have their minds set on what the flesh desires, but 0:06:40.430 --> 0:06:42.429 those that live according to the spirit have their minds 0:06:42.430 --> 0:06:45.590 set on what the spirit desires. The mind governed by 0:06:45.589 --> 0:06:47.670 the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the 0:06:47.670 --> 0:06:50.590 spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the 0:06:50.589 --> 0:06:53.110 flesh is hostile towards God. It doesn't submit to the 0:06:53.110 --> 0:06:55.630 law of God, nor can it. Those who are in 0:06:55.630 --> 0:06:59.990 the realm of the flesh cannot please God. So there's 0:06:59.990 --> 0:07:04.270 a battle within our minds. If you're driven by the 0:07:04.270 --> 0:07:08.390 flesh or you're driven by the spirit, you can be 0:07:08.390 --> 0:07:14.110 very religious, but incredibly, incredibly and fully dominated by the flesh. 0:07:16.310 --> 0:07:18.510 Some of the most fleshly people I've run into are 0:07:18.510 --> 0:07:24.230 religious people. That are full of pride and self righteousness, 0:07:24.230 --> 0:07:26.510 and think they're earning their way to God when they 0:07:26.510 --> 0:07:32.070 are so condemned. And Jesus said it in a parable 0:07:33.030 --> 0:07:36.710 where he compared a a real bad sinner to a 0:07:36.710 --> 0:07:39.270 religious person, and the religious person was saying, I'm glad 0:07:39.270 --> 0:07:41.070 I'm not like those people. God, aren't you glad you 0:07:41.070 --> 0:07:44.590 have me on your team? And the sinner was in 0:07:44.590 --> 0:07:49.510 the back saying, I'm so broken over my sin. And 0:07:49.510 --> 0:07:51.990 Jesus said, who do you think God was pleased with? 0:07:53.270 --> 0:07:56.030 Just because you're religious doesn't mean you're walking in the spirit. 0:07:57.110 --> 0:07:59.630 The spirit gives you power to overcome the flesh and 0:07:59.630 --> 0:08:07.800 what it means to be spirit led. I don't have 0:08:07.800 --> 0:08:10.160 time to get fully into it, because I want to 0:08:11.040 --> 0:08:13.040 wrap it up with my last point that there's no 0:08:13.040 --> 0:08:15.960 condemnation to the power that raised Jesus from the dead 0:08:16.000 --> 0:08:20.360 is in you. Verse nine you, however, are not in 0:08:20.360 --> 0:08:22.920 the realm of the flesh, but in the realm of 0:08:22.920 --> 0:08:26.880 the spirit. If indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. 0:08:26.880 --> 0:08:29.360 And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, 0:08:29.360 --> 0:08:32.880 they do not belong to Christ. You cannot be a 0:14:02.630 --> 0:14:04.709 Christian without the spirit. What makes you a Christian is 0:14:04.710 --> 0:14:11.950 the spirit. If someone comes to you and says, oh, 0:14:11.950 --> 0:14:13.829 you're a Christian, but you don't have the Holy Spirit, 0:14:13.830 --> 0:14:16.950 they're wrong. They may be talking about other things, but 0:14:16.950 --> 0:14:19.110 you cannot be a Christian without the Holy Spirit. It's 0:14:19.110 --> 0:14:21.470 the Holy Spirit that gives you the power to be sanctified, 0:14:21.470 --> 0:14:23.750 the Holy Spirit that comes in you, that rose Jesus 0:14:23.750 --> 0:14:27.150 from the dead, that applies salvation to your life. It's 0:14:27.150 --> 0:14:31.350 God's power inside of you, sanctifying and changing you and 0:14:31.350 --> 0:14:34.670 making you new, that lives in you. Listen to me. If God has 0:15:01.360 --> 0:15:04.720 not condemned you, what right in the world do you 0:15:04.720 --> 0:15:10.440 have to condemn yourself? Listen, you say, well, pastor, why aren't you 0:16:46.680 --> 0:16:49.320 out on the street with a turn or burn T-shirt 0:16:49.360 --> 0:16:58.440 flagging people down? Turn or burn? I'm not condemned. You are. 0:17:00.280 --> 0:17:03.040 Why don't you hold up signs and say, turn or burn. 0:17:03.040 --> 0:17:08.919 You're going to hell. Are people condemned? Yes, but I'm 0:17:08.920 --> 0:17:12.280 going to tell you something. I have been so washed 0:17:12.320 --> 0:17:16.879 free and so non condemned that my goal is not 0:17:16.880 --> 0:17:20.280 to tell people how condemned they are. My goal is 0:17:20.280 --> 0:17:23.760 to point to the person that condemns them. I want 0:17:23.800 --> 0:17:27.280 to show them Jesus. I want to point to Jesus. 0:17:27.280 --> 0:17:31.880 I'll point to Jesus all day long. I'll point to 0:17:31.880 --> 0:17:35.040 Jesus all day long and saying, he's the one. He's 0:17:35.040 --> 0:17:38.800 got to save you. Come to Christ. The gospel is 0:17:38.800 --> 0:17:45.200 good news that wipes away our condemnation. Now, people sometimes 0:17:45.200 --> 0:17:47.720 have to understand that they're condemned before they want their 0:17:47.920 --> 0:17:51.080 condemnation wiped away. But I want to talk about the 0:17:51.080 --> 0:17:54.360 one who set me free. I want to declare the 0:17:54.359 --> 0:17:57.400 goodness of the one who's cleansed me. I want to 0:17:57.440 --> 0:18:01.449 worship him and say, see? Have a world. See, man, 0:18:01.490 --> 0:18:04.570 these people really love God. What is it about these 0:18:04.570 --> 0:18:07.370 crazy Christians that love God and have so much joy 0:18:07.369 --> 0:18:11.090 in their life? I want to point to Jesus, not 0:18:11.090 --> 0:18:15.730 focus my entire time on telling people how condemned they are. 0:18:17.730 --> 0:18:22.130 And then lastly, number three, you stop letting the enemy 0:18:22.130 --> 0:18:25.130 when you know you're not condemned. When God has said 0:18:25.170 --> 0:18:30.330 you're condemnation free, there's no condemnation upon you. You know 0:20:09.460 --> 0:20:14.220 that your sin is constantly knocking at the door, and 0:20:14.220 --> 0:20:20.300 you're failing over and over, and you feel ashamed. You 0:20:20.300 --> 0:20:23.340 feel condemned. You know, you fall short. And let me 0:20:23.340 --> 0:20:27.500 tell you, you do. I had a man come up 0:20:27.500 --> 0:20:31.420 to me after service recently and he said, you know, 0:20:31.460 --> 0:20:35.699 I feel like I fall short. I feel like my 0:20:35.820 --> 0:20:40.020 sin is heavy. He said, I feel like I probably 0:20:40.020 --> 0:20:43.100 deserve hell. And I looked at him with compassion and 0:20:43.100 --> 0:20:46.180 I said, friend, you do deserve hell. 0:20:46.260 --> 0:20:46.859 So do I. 0:20:46.980 --> 0:20:50.060 And so do I.
