Ever since Jesus died, the church has 0:02:12.090 --> 0:02:19.530 stopped sacrificing because the perfect sacrifice has been sacrificed. Before there was sin, there 0:05:06.460 --> 0:05:15.180 was no death. Sin brought death into the world. Jesus 0:05:15.180 --> 0:05:20.580 was sinless. Therefore, sin had no power to hold him down. 0:05:21.660 --> 0:05:26.820 And so on the third day, he rose. People saw 0:05:26.820 --> 0:05:32.940 him and talked with him. Not metaphorically. Rose. They had lived with them for 0:06:08.510 --> 0:06:11.310 three years. They knew who Jesus was. They knew his 0:06:11.310 --> 0:06:14.029 voice and his image, and they talked with them when 0:06:14.029 --> 0:06:17.190 he rose. They knew this is the man that died 0:06:17.190 --> 0:06:19.910 and rose again. He is the Messiah, the son of 0:06:19.910 --> 0:06:34.550 the living God. We celebrate an act that Jesus. Instituted. 0:06:35.110 --> 0:06:40.950 We call it the Last Supper. But it started hundreds 0:06:40.950 --> 0:06:45.670 of years before the Jewish people called it the Passover. 0:06:47.310 --> 0:06:52.670 A practicing Jew still celebrate the Passover starting in a 0:06:52.670 --> 0:06:56.270 few weeks from now, and they have a whole ceremony 0:06:56.270 --> 0:07:02.630 around it. Part of that ceremony is a lamb's leg 0:07:03.430 --> 0:07:09.870 because they celebrate when a lamb was slaughtered. The last 0:07:09.870 --> 0:07:15.910 of the ten plagues. And if they put splattered the 0:07:15.910 --> 0:07:19.310 blood of the lamb on the door of their house, 0:07:19.950 --> 0:07:23.070 the angel of death that would kill their firstborn child 0:07:23.070 --> 0:07:27.310 would pass over. It had to be a lamb without blemish. 0:07:29.070 --> 0:07:36.470 Does that sound familiar? You see, it was predicting what 0:07:36.470 --> 0:07:40.190 was to come. There would be a lamb. His blood 0:07:40.190 --> 0:07:47.590 will save you from death. He's the firstborn of all 0:07:47.630 --> 0:07:53.150 of creation. And so the Jewish people celebrated the Passover. 0:07:53.830 --> 0:07:58.070 As they got ready to celebrate the Passover, Jesus gathered 0:07:58.070 --> 0:08:01.960 with his disciples, and he said, I'm going to put 0:08:01.960 --> 0:08:06.800 a twist on this. I will no longer be able 0:08:06.800 --> 0:08:09.120 to celebrate the Passover with you. This will be my 0:08:09.120 --> 0:08:13.560 last Passover with you, because I'm going to a place 0:08:13.560 --> 0:08:17.960 where you're not going yet. He called it the Last Supper, 0:08:18.960 --> 0:08:21.200 and he said, I want you to do this often 0:08:21.200 --> 0:08:24.280 as you remember me. The disciples didn't know what he 0:08:24.280 --> 0:08:27.920 was talking about. And by the way, how many of 0:08:27.920 --> 0:08:32.679 you have seen Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper? When have you ever 0:08:43.040 --> 0:08:45.120 seen everybody sit on one side of the table, by 0:08:45.120 --> 0:08:47.360 the way? You know, you just. No one does that. 0:08:49.000 --> 0:08:51.079 By the way, they didn't sit on tables like that 0:08:51.080 --> 0:08:54.600 in the Jewish time. So if you tear the 0:14:15.150 --> 0:14:20.070 top off, if your neighbor, if your neighbor is struggling, 0:14:20.070 --> 0:14:24.590 you can help them. And the top of that little 0:14:24.590 --> 0:14:32.190 cup is something that's called unleavened bread. Leaven in the 0:14:32.190 --> 0:14:36.590 Passover was always a symbol of sin. The Jewish people, 0:14:36.630 --> 0:14:38.990 before they ate the Passover, they would go throughout the 0:14:38.990 --> 0:14:41.030 house and they would clean the house to make sure 0:14:41.030 --> 0:14:46.750 there was no leaven. Leaven causes things to rise. It 0:14:47.230 --> 0:14:51.990 affects everything. A little leaven causes the whole loaf of 0:14:51.990 --> 0:14:56.910 bread to rise. And Jesus says, A little leaven in 0:14:56.910 --> 0:15:02.480 your life. It affects your whole life. So this is 0:15:02.480 --> 0:15:04.840 a time to examine our hearts and to make sure 0:15:04.840 --> 0:15:08.880 that there's not areas in our life that are contrary 0:15:08.880 --> 0:15:14.320 to God. So we examine Lord, is the area of 0:15:14.360 --> 0:15:17.440 sin in my life an area of disobedience? An area 0:15:17.440 --> 0:15:21.000 where I haven't submitted to you because I don't want 0:15:21.000 --> 0:15:25.520 that to affect me. So the Bible says, examine yourself 0:15:25.520 --> 0:15:29.480 before you partake of this. The bread symbolizes the body 0:15:29.480 --> 0:15:31.280 of Christ, and in just a moment we're going to 0:15:31.320 --> 0:15:37.640 partake of. This symbolizes the body that was broken on 0:15:37.680 --> 0:15:42.560 that cross for you and I. But take a moment 0:15:43.480 --> 0:15:47.720 and just examine your life and say, Lord, is there 0:15:47.720 --> 0:15:55.880 anything you're dealing with? Pride. Lust? Lying? Any area that 0:15:55.880 --> 0:16:00.160 I need to confess to you right now? God, Anything 0:16:00.160 --> 0:16:04.640 I need to get right, Lord. Just allow the Spirit 0:16:04.640 --> 0:16:09.760 of God to speak to you. Maybe you're here and. 0:16:12.240 --> 0:16:17.680 You've never surrendered your life to Christ. And see, we partake of this unleavened 0:16:33.160 --> 0:16:40.120 bread that symbolizes the sinless body of Jesus, the sinless 0:16:40.560 --> 0:16:45.000 body of Jesus, broken on our behalf. And we partake 0:16:45.000 --> 0:16:46.800 of it in the name of the father, the son, 0:16:47.280 --> 0:16:50.840 and the Holy Spirit. And the Bible says that in 0:16:50.840 --> 0:16:54.200 the same way he took the cup, the fruit of 0:16:54.200 --> 0:17:00.600 the vine. This grape juice is red like blood. It 0:17:00.640 --> 0:17:05.640 symbolizes the blood of Jesus, that blood that dripped from 0:17:05.640 --> 0:17:08.040 his head, that blood that dripped from his hands, that 0:17:08.040 --> 0:17:14.280 blood that dripped from his feet. Blood symbolizes life. Jesus 0:17:14.560 --> 0:17:19.480 gave his life so that you and I could go 0:17:19.480 --> 0:17:25.880 into the Holy of Holies. Washed and clean. And so, 0:17:25.880 --> 0:17:28.879 as we drink of this cup, we say, thank you, Jesus, 0:17:28.880 --> 0:17:33.920 that you did it. We're extremely grateful. But the veil is rent. You don't have 0:18:27.490 --> 0:18:31.650 to stand outside of that which is holy. Well, it seems easy, but the way of 0:18:53.770 --> 0:18:57.449 the cross is not easy because you give yourself to 0:18:57.490 --> 0:18:59.660 God and let him cleanse you. There's no nothing. There's 0:18:59.660 --> 0:19:03.020 no penance that you can do to cleanse yourself. You 0:19:03.060 --> 0:19:06.820 can't pray enough Hail Marys or Our Fathers to wash 0:19:06.820 --> 0:19:10.460 your sins away. You can't do that. It's washed only 0:19:10.460 --> 0:19:15.660 through the blood of Jesus. There's no penance.
