It's all very important. 0:05:45.080 --> 0:05:48.680 But I think oftentimes being the church on mission with 0:05:48.680 --> 0:05:51.930 Jesus is more about what it looks like to actually 0:05:51.930 --> 0:05:56.490 be functionally in the world with non-believers, rather than how 0:05:56.490 --> 0:05:58.410 to have a better inner life, or how to have 0:05:58.410 --> 0:06:00.599 a better prayer life or these kinds of things. And 0:06:00.600 --> 0:06:03.089 so God is sending us into all of life, whether 0:06:03.089 --> 0:06:06.180 it's the workplace I just got back from vacation. We were homeless on the streets of Detroit. 0:06:56.470 --> 0:06:58.150 We had a sign on the front of our home 0:06:58.150 --> 0:07:01.120 when we weren't homeless the moors, the atheists. We had 0:07:01.120 --> 0:07:04.029 a barrel for burning Bibles. I was not raised in 0:07:04.029 --> 0:07:07.150 the church. I had a radical come to Jesus born 0:07:07.150 --> 0:07:09.790 again experience while I was a university student at the 0:07:09.790 --> 0:07:12.910 University of Michigan, and I started attending church in my 0:07:12.910 --> 0:07:16.390 20s for the first time. And what I experienced was 0:07:16.390 --> 0:07:21.250 initially just a set of confusing feelings and observations as 0:07:21.250 --> 0:07:25.180 I watched many Christians, not all, but many Christians, believing 0:07:25.180 --> 0:07:28.690 that they were on mission and following Jesus simply because 0:07:28.690 --> 0:07:32.470 they could check the Nicene Creed, or they attended church 0:07:32.470 --> 0:07:35.680 and tithed, or those kinds of things. But again, there, 0:07:35.680 --> 0:07:40.330 Monday through Sunday, faith wasn't really integrated, right? So they 0:07:40.330 --> 0:07:43.420 had this idea that following Jesus was really about attending 0:07:43.420 --> 0:07:46.570 a church service. And when you look at the difference 0:07:46.570 --> 0:07:49.570 between somebody who's truly on mission, where Jesus is the 0:07:49.570 --> 0:07:52.990 Lord over every square inch of their lives, qualitatively there's 0:07:52.990 --> 0:07:56.350 no comparison. So when Jesus calls us to be disciples, 0:07:56.350 --> 0:07:59.680 that's what he's talking about. He's talking about. Yes. It's important. 0:07:59.710 --> 0:08:02.500 Don't neglect the gathering of yourselves together, as is the 0:08:02.500 --> 0:08:05.410 habit of some. We understand that gathering in the local 0:08:05.410 --> 0:08:09.100 church is important. It's a command, in my opinion. What's got people stuck? It's Christian leaders. What we're actually seeing is 0:11:46.679 --> 0:11:51.210 that the largest generation in American history, Gen Z, the 0:11:51.210 --> 0:11:57.150 largest unaffiliated generation in all of American history. Gen Z's largely, uh, 0:11:57.390 --> 0:12:02.459 non-affiliated when it comes to any religious affiliation, but 84% 0:12:02.460 --> 0:12:05.520 of Gen Z are open to talking about Jesus and 0:12:05.520 --> 0:12:09.599 the gospel. They're looking for transformative community. They are hoping 0:12:09.600 --> 0:12:14.100 for mentoring relationships with an adult. We call that discipleship. 0:12:14.100 --> 0:12:16.830 This is an opportunity like we've never seen before. I've 0:12:16.830 --> 0:12:19.710 been in college ministry now for 30 years, 27 years 0:12:19.710 --> 0:12:23.190 as the national evangelist with a ministry called InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, 0:12:23.190 --> 0:12:25.770 and now the president of the coalition for Christian Outreach. 0:12:25.770 --> 0:12:29.579 And I've never seen the amount of openness in this 0:12:29.580 --> 0:12:33.660 generation like what we're seeing right now. We know 0:13:02.050 --> 0:13:05.890 who is ministering on those campuses and across the country. 0:13:05.920 --> 0:13:08.980 You've mentioned UCLA, you've mentioned Ohio State. But here's the difference. When we who have 0:14:41.430 --> 0:14:45.150 the hope of heaven live in a way that's indiscernible 0:14:45.150 --> 0:14:47.550 from those people who are on their way to a 0:14:47.550 --> 0:14:51.930 crisis eternity. Something is wrong.
