You know, 0:01:18.120 --> 0:01:20.120 I met her when she was eight. And so we had a little 0:03:18.310 --> 0:03:20.950 park that was right on. Um, I can't remember the 0:03:20.950 --> 0:03:23.790 name of the street. Uh, but it was, uh, LaSalle. 0:03:23.910 --> 0:03:26.030 And then as you go east, the next street, they 0:03:26.030 --> 0:03:28.790 got a little park there, and they went in and, uh, 0:03:28.790 --> 0:03:30.829 we went over and we were witnessing there were four 0:03:30.830 --> 0:03:34.549 of us and, uh, uh, we went in different directions 0:03:34.550 --> 0:03:37.350 to get different people. What, uh, what's his name? 0:04:10.830 --> 0:04:14.310 Doctor Phil Williams. Here's what he says. He says the 0:04:14.310 --> 0:04:19.670 law is a great mirror, but a terrible washcloth. He 0:04:19.670 --> 0:04:25.029 said the law is the light that reveals how dirty 0:04:25.070 --> 0:04:28.470 the room is. Not the broom that sweeps it clean 0:04:30.110 --> 0:04:32.790 so that we understand that. Then we know that our 0:04:32.790 --> 0:04:36.870 Christianity is not based on obeying a set of rules 0:04:36.870 --> 0:04:44.670 and regulations. And how many churches are in bondage because 0:04:44.870 --> 0:04:48.589 they're given a set of rules and regulations. Don't do 0:04:48.589 --> 0:04:51.589 this and don't do that and don't do this. That's 0:04:51.589 --> 0:04:55.110 not what the gospel is all about. Remember, we already 0:04:55.110 --> 0:04:58.270 saw it. The law says, do this and live. And 0:04:58.270 --> 0:05:03.630 Grace says, what? Let's go and do this. And so 0:05:03.630 --> 0:05:07.150 he says, listen, you need to understand that and notice 0:05:07.150 --> 0:05:10.469 what he says that we are those it was added 0:05:10.470 --> 0:05:15.510 because of transgression. Uh, and, and that's why the law 0:05:15.510 --> 0:05:17.190 was given. Here's the second, here's the second one. Here's 0:05:17.190 --> 0:05:20.110 the second one. Uh, it not only exposes our sin, 0:05:20.550 --> 0:05:27.910 it exalts our promise. Verse 19 B and 20, it 0:05:27.950 --> 0:05:31.430 exalts our promise. So he's saying, when you look at 0:05:31.430 --> 0:05:37.150 what the law has done, the promise is superior to 0:05:37.190 --> 0:05:39.430 the law. So notice what he says. Let me read it. 0:05:39.470 --> 0:05:46.070 He says, till the seed. Who's that? Jesus. How do 0:05:46.070 --> 0:05:51.150 we know that? Because he just told us that earlier 0:05:51.150 --> 0:05:55.270 in the chapter. He said, verse 16, Now to Abraham 0:05:55.270 --> 0:05:58.790 and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, 0:05:58.790 --> 0:06:02.750 and to seeds as of many, but as of one. 0:06:02.790 --> 0:06:07.390 And to thy seed, which is Christ. So he's telling 0:06:07.390 --> 0:06:11.550 us then, what was the job of the law? The 0:06:11.550 --> 0:06:15.430 law was a guide to direct us. What did the 0:06:15.430 --> 0:06:17.349 law do? Let me read some things. Don't try to 0:06:17.350 --> 0:06:19.950 take notes on this. Just let me read some things here. 0:06:19.990 --> 0:06:22.830 Here's here's here's what he wants us to understand. That 0:06:22.830 --> 0:06:28.710 the law then was given to us to show God 0:06:28.710 --> 0:06:33.589 had a standard we couldn't reach. Therefore, it demonstrated or 0:06:33.589 --> 0:06:37.510 showed to us the need for God's grace through the 0:06:37.510 --> 0:06:42.510 promise that he gave, which would be fulfilled in Jesus Christ. 0:06:42.670 --> 0:06:46.549 So the law then was designed to put on us 0:06:46.550 --> 0:06:54.110 guilt and shame. And to have an external witness that 0:06:54.110 --> 0:06:58.950 would would activate that internal witness that had been silenced 0:06:58.950 --> 0:07:03.510 because there was no sign that said how fast you 0:07:03.510 --> 0:07:07.750 could go. So if you go to Germany, they have 0:07:07.790 --> 0:07:11.110 they have the Autobahn. Now some of them have speed 0:07:11.110 --> 0:07:13.910 limits on. But but from what I understand, if the 0:07:13.990 --> 0:07:16.830 if the Google was right, there are about 18 of 0:07:16.830 --> 0:07:20.750 them that have no limit. Uh huh. Yeah. Because some 0:07:20.750 --> 0:07:25.710 of them go 120 miles an hour. So there's no sign. 0:07:25.710 --> 0:07:28.510 But all of a sudden now people start getting killed 0:07:28.510 --> 0:07:34.390 because if you're going 75 and I'm going 120, uh, 0:07:34.390 --> 0:07:39.150 you're like a wall. Yeah. And so people were being killed, 0:07:39.150 --> 0:07:42.910 so they start putting speed limits and they said, suggested 0:07:42.910 --> 0:07:46.870 speed limit 131km, which I believe is about 80 miles 0:07:46.870 --> 0:07:50.430 an hour, you see. Now, as long as there were 0:07:50.430 --> 0:07:53.870 no signs, were you wrong if you went 20? No, 0:07:54.670 --> 0:07:57.270 but but if you were going 120, you got you 0:07:57.270 --> 0:08:00.550 was kind of feeling like, you know, you're close to 0:08:00.590 --> 0:08:05.630 Jesus right now. You know, like, wow. But when they 0:08:05.630 --> 0:08:09.230 put up the sign now, now, you know you're a violator. 0:08:09.670 --> 0:08:11.869 Now you know you're a violator. So he says, then, 0:08:11.870 --> 0:08:15.510 that this law showed us that we needed grace and 0:08:15.510 --> 0:08:18.110 we were unworthy of it, that the law put on 0:08:18.110 --> 0:08:21.270 us guilt and shame. Why? Because there was no way 0:08:21.390 --> 0:08:24.230 we could live it to its fullest. And that's why 0:08:24.230 --> 0:08:29.190 I don't understand how law observers can think that they 0:08:29.510 --> 0:08:34.110 are able. Because, see, once you break one part of 0:08:34.110 --> 0:08:39.310 the law at any time, you've already broken the law. 0:08:39.510 --> 0:08:44.710 Where is the forgiveness? Where is the restoration from the law? 0:08:44.750 --> 0:08:48.870 The law says you should die. So the Israelites, they 0:08:48.870 --> 0:08:51.949 didn't even know it. They said in Deuteronomy, the blessing 0:08:51.950 --> 0:08:54.350 and the curse, if you do this, you know. And 0:08:54.350 --> 0:08:58.309 they said, we will do it. And then what happened? 0:08:58.350 --> 0:09:00.939 A couple of months later, they said they weren't going 0:09:00.940 --> 0:09:02.620 to do it. They said what they were going to do, 0:09:02.700 --> 0:09:04.819 what they ended up doing, doing it. Is there anybody 0:09:04.820 --> 0:09:06.500 here that said they wasn't going to do it and 0:09:06.500 --> 0:09:09.140 they did it? Amen. 0:09:09.460 --> 0:09:09.940 Amen. 0:09:10.020 --> 0:09:13.540 Thank God for grace. Because if it was law, we 0:09:13.540 --> 0:09:16.580 should be stoned. We should be killed. We should go 0:09:16.580 --> 0:09:21.420 to hell. But the law was just a guide to 0:09:21.460 --> 0:09:23.940 direct us because we're saying, wait, wait a minute, wait 0:09:23.940 --> 0:09:26.700 a minute. Oh, man, I thought that thought, you know, 0:09:26.740 --> 0:09:31.900 I did that deed. I've already broken it. So it's 0:09:31.900 --> 0:09:35.340 just taking us to Jesus because we couldn't handle it 0:09:35.340 --> 0:09:39.780 our selves. We can't pay our own debt. We need 0:09:39.820 --> 0:09:43.900 a savior. So the law shows us God's perfection. And 0:09:43.900 --> 0:09:50.900 it shows us our own inner perfection. Now, now, when 0:09:50.900 --> 0:09:54.179 you look at what he says and he says, then, uh, 0:09:54.179 --> 0:09:57.179 so it was ordained by angels in the hand of 0:09:57.179 --> 0:09:59.260 a mediator. But what do you what do you mean 0:09:59.260 --> 0:10:03.500 by that? he's saying, I want you to think about this. 0:10:04.860 --> 0:10:10.980 God appeared to Abraham personally, but the law was given 0:10:10.980 --> 0:10:16.220 through two mediators angels and Moses. What do you think 0:10:16.220 --> 0:10:20.460 he's trying to do? He is trying to get them 0:10:20.460 --> 0:10:26.380 to see that when God gave that promise, he did 0:10:26.380 --> 0:10:31.020 it face to face. That has more impact than something 0:10:31.020 --> 0:10:34.060 that has a mediator, and he's trying to get them 0:10:34.059 --> 0:10:37.020 to see. Listen, God did this thing. Personally, I believe 0:10:37.059 --> 0:10:39.740 he's going back to Genesis 15, but we're not going 0:10:39.740 --> 0:10:43.620 to argue about that. So what would the law do? 0:10:44.140 --> 0:10:50.740 Restrained us until the son came. Matthew 517 through 20. 0:10:50.780 --> 0:10:54.020 What did Jesus say? Matthew 517 through 20. Let me 0:10:54.020 --> 0:10:57.820 read that to you. Matthew 517 through 20. What did 0:10:57.820 --> 0:11:00.540 he say? Think not that I am I'm come to 0:11:00.540 --> 0:11:03.260 destroy the law or the prophets. I am not come 0:11:03.260 --> 0:11:06.260 to destroy it, but to fulfil it. For verily I 0:11:06.260 --> 0:11:08.940 say unto you, till heaven and earth pass away, one 0:11:08.940 --> 0:11:11.380 jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from 0:11:11.380 --> 0:11:17.700 the law, till all be fulfilled. Wherefore whosoever shall break one of these 0:11:20.660 --> 0:11:23.380 least commandments, and shall teach men to do so, he 0:11:23.380 --> 0:11:25.219 shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven. That is the, the, the reason we 0:11:53.540 --> 0:11:57.540 have the baptizing work of the Holy Spirit, because the 0:11:57.540 --> 0:12:02.100 baptizing work of the Holy Spirit is the spiritual operation 0:12:02.100 --> 0:12:07.740 by which God allows us to share in the death, burial, 0:12:07.740 --> 0:12:11.180 and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Wait wait wait wait wait 0:12:11.179 --> 0:12:13.580 wait wait wait. What do you mean? What happened to 0:12:13.580 --> 0:12:18.420 you spiritually when you became a believer that the Holy 0:12:18.420 --> 0:12:24.579 Spirit entered into your human spirit and you were born again, 0:12:25.460 --> 0:12:29.860 you were born again. You were regenerated. You were made 0:12:29.860 --> 0:12:35.020 alive again. Why? Ephesians two one through four. Dead in 0:12:35.020 --> 0:12:40.660 trespasses and sin, depraved in our morality, darkened in our 0:12:40.660 --> 0:12:45.860 minds in comprehension. And so he, he, he made us alive. 0:12:45.980 --> 0:12:51.459 And what was that process? He. He crucified the old man. 0:12:51.460 --> 0:12:56.420 And then he buried us spiritually and raised us in 0:12:56.420 --> 0:13:00.819 a newness of life in Jesus Christ, so over 3000 0:13:00.820 --> 0:13:05.060 times in the New Testament of Christ in Christ, it 0:13:05.059 --> 0:13:07.900 speaks of the baptizing work of the Holy Spirit, that 0:13:07.900 --> 0:13:13.020 spiritual operation of the Spirit of God, whereby he takes 0:13:13.020 --> 0:13:15.860 us out of the old Adam, where there is death, 0:13:16.140 --> 0:13:19.820 and puts us in the new Adam, Jesus, where there 0:13:19.820 --> 0:13:25.420 is life now. Galatians chapter two, verse 20. And you said already my clothes better be washed. 0:15:13.450 --> 0:15:16.810 My house better be clean. My kids better. You know 0:15:16.850 --> 0:15:21.010 you better. And so for ten years, she labored under 0:15:21.010 --> 0:15:26.570 that duty. When he died, she got married again. Ten 0:15:26.570 --> 0:15:31.450 year anniversary. She said. Wait a minute. I'm doing what 0:15:31.450 --> 0:15:36.930 I used to do. I'm cooking for him. Cleaning for him. 0:15:38.090 --> 0:15:39.530 What's the difference? 0:15:39.890 --> 0:15:47.090 Oh, that former husband demanded that I do it. It 0:15:47.090 --> 0:15:50.890 was a duty.
