We've lived in a culture of oppression, 0:01:22.810 --> 0:01:26.800 a culture of brokenness. We've lived in a culture in 0:01:26.800 --> 0:01:29.979 which our brokenness has become our comfort. And when God 0:01:29.980 --> 0:01:33.280 calls us out, we're afraid to walk in wholeness. These 0:01:33.280 --> 0:01:37.270 people were slaves. It's like an addict that leaves his addiction, 0:01:37.270 --> 0:01:39.820 and he's afraid to leave his addiction behind, even though 0:01:39.970 --> 0:01:43.179 he knows it's a slave master. It beats him down. 0:01:43.180 --> 0:01:47.650 It oppresses him. It takes away his liberty. It drives 0:01:47.650 --> 0:01:51.970 him to his knees. It takes away his economy. But oftentimes, 0:01:51.970 --> 0:01:55.059 an addict is afraid of leaving their addiction because they're 0:01:55.060 --> 0:02:03.560 not sure how they live without it. Elijah was called 0:02:03.560 --> 0:02:07.970 out of the cave because he had embraced self-pity and 0:02:07.970 --> 0:02:12.920 God was saying, you're done with that. Zacchaeus was called 0:02:12.919 --> 0:02:16.880 out of a tree because he was anonymous in hiding. 0:02:16.880 --> 0:02:19.940 And God said, come down. You'll have to do a reckoning. Well, 0:02:19.940 --> 0:02:23.389 every time that God calls us out of hiding, every 0:02:23.419 --> 0:02:26.630 time that God calls us out of the place that 0:02:26.630 --> 0:02:31.370 we're at, he calls us unto himself, unto a different destiny. 0:02:31.370 --> 0:02:38.540 And it's always scary. There's risk involved in it. Lazarus 0:02:38.570 --> 0:02:43.310 is called out of the grave. And this bent over woman. 0:02:43.880 --> 0:02:49.610 She's called out of anonymity. The nature of God is 0:02:49.610 --> 0:02:54.859 to call his people out. The church is called the Ecclesia, 0:02:54.889 --> 0:03:01.200 the called out ones. We are people that are called 0:03:01.200 --> 0:03:04.980 out of our culture. We're called out of our we're 0:03:04.980 --> 0:03:10.380 called out of society. We are chosen of God. But 0:03:10.380 --> 0:03:15.510 calling means that I respond and I leave something behind. 0:03:15.510 --> 0:03:19.140 And it's difficult to leave that behind. The nature of 0:03:19.139 --> 0:03:23.310 God is to call us out so that we can belong. 0:03:24.690 --> 0:03:29.160 I want you to notice this about this woman is 0:03:29.160 --> 0:03:34.830 that when Jesus saw her, he called her forward. I 0:03:34.830 --> 0:03:36.930 want you to remember that Jesus was the speaker at 0:03:36.930 --> 0:03:40.410 the synagogue. He was the guest speaker. Much like a 0:03:40.410 --> 0:03:43.830 church environment. There were probably hundreds of other people that 0:03:43.830 --> 0:03:47.220 were in the synagogue, and he was at the front, 0:03:47.220 --> 0:03:52.800 and he sees the woman. I'm pretty confident that the 0:03:52.800 --> 0:03:57.570 woman was in the back. And he calls the woman forward. 0:03:57.630 --> 0:04:01.130 And there is a moment in time. There's a moment 0:04:01.130 --> 0:04:04.670 in time in which this woman, who has been living 0:04:04.670 --> 0:04:10.220 in a season for 18 years, desirous to get out 0:04:10.220 --> 0:04:13.070 of the season. So she comes to the synagogue on 0:04:13.070 --> 0:04:17.060 a regular basis, but unable to get out of that season, 0:04:17.060 --> 0:04:21.200 and maybe accepting that season. But there's a moment with 0:04:21.200 --> 0:04:24.950 the voice of Jesus calls her out of her anonymity. 0:04:24.950 --> 0:04:29.300 And at that moment, every eye in the synagogue turns 0:04:29.300 --> 0:04:35.330 and looks at that woman who is Jesus, the rabbi, 0:04:35.360 --> 0:04:41.360 the rabboni calling out. Every head turns, every eye looks, 0:04:41.360 --> 0:04:48.200 every person sees her deformity. She has a choice at 0:04:48.230 --> 0:04:54.650 that moment. She can walk out, go to the back, say, 0:04:54.650 --> 0:05:01.410 I don't want people to see my brokenness. Or she 0:05:01.410 --> 0:05:08.010 can take a first step towards Jesus. I don't know 0:05:08.010 --> 0:05:10.770 if there was hesitation. I imagine there was a pause, 0:05:10.800 --> 0:05:14.580 a thinking should I go? Eyes are looking at her. 0:05:14.610 --> 0:05:18.960 Shame fills her again as she looks at the ground, 0:05:18.960 --> 0:05:27.300 unable to walk. And as she walks forward, awkwardly struggling. 0:05:31.080 --> 0:05:36.420 Knowing that everybody is wondering what is wrong with that woman, 0:05:36.900 --> 0:05:44.460 she takes a first awkward step towards Jesus understanding, believing 0:05:44.460 --> 0:05:50.340 that I have to walk towards Jesus. To leave this 0:05:50.339 --> 0:05:57.990 season behind. You know, I believe that the voice of 0:05:57.990 --> 0:06:02.540 God calls us. I believe that God is always working, 0:06:03.230 --> 0:06:06.260 and I believe that it's up to us to respond 0:06:06.260 --> 0:06:11.060 to his voice. I believe there's a first step that 0:06:11.060 --> 0:06:14.900 has to be taken when we hear the voice of God. 0:06:15.860 --> 0:06:19.790 Number three, if you're taking notes, write this down. I love this story 0:06:30.589 --> 0:06:40.580 because Jesus, the Bible, says he speaks to her. He says, woman, 0:06:42.230 --> 0:06:47.780 you are set free from your infirmity. Then he put 0:06:47.779 --> 0:06:52.909 his hands on her and immediately the Bible says, she 0:06:52.940 --> 0:06:57.500 straightened up. Now I want you to. I want you 0:06:57.500 --> 0:07:03.120 to notice it's the Since it's the word and it's 0:07:03.120 --> 0:07:10.619 the touch. She had been to the synagogue year after year, 0:07:10.620 --> 0:07:16.170 Sabbath after Sabbath, and nothing had ever happened. You know why? 0:07:17.550 --> 0:07:25.740 Because the presence wasn't there. But in this particular occasion. Yeah. Jesus, 0:07:27.420 --> 0:07:30.090 the word in the beginning was the word, and the 0:07:30.090 --> 0:07:31.920 word was with God, and the word was God, the 0:07:31.920 --> 0:07:35.280 incarnate Son of God. He showed up his presence. Was 0:07:35.280 --> 0:07:39.090 there something radically changed because the presence of God was 0:07:39.090 --> 0:07:44.370 there the presence of Jesus, the healer, the Messiah, the Resurrector? 0:07:45.480 --> 0:07:49.350 He was there. Not only was his presence there, but 0:07:49.350 --> 0:07:54.360 His word was there. He spoke. There's something about the 0:07:54.360 --> 0:07:58.320 words of Jesus. He spoke into her life. He spoken 0:07:58.320 --> 0:08:03.290 to her toxicity. He'd spoken to her brokenness and he said, woman, 0:08:03.290 --> 0:08:07.400 you are set free. Can I tell you there's something 0:08:07.400 --> 0:08:09.770 powerful about the words of Jesus? Can I tell you 0:08:09.770 --> 0:08:12.560 something that when the Word of God goes forth, the 0:08:12.560 --> 0:08:15.530 words of Jesus go forth, written in Scripture as we 0:08:15.530 --> 0:08:18.530 proclaim the Word of God? But we 0:10:46.880 --> 0:10:52.010 also simultaneously need to make sure that we are clothing 0:10:52.010 --> 0:10:57.200 ourselves or preparing ourselves to engage in spiritual battle. Blood would trickle down the hands 0:12:11.179 --> 0:12:19.400 that would be scarred. These hands, the Messiah, touch this woman. 0:12:20.510 --> 0:12:24.620 The Bible tells us that. I like this word, by 0:12:24.620 --> 0:12:31.340 the way. Immediately. Don't you like that word? Immediately. Suddenly? 0:12:31.460 --> 0:12:38.540 You know, sometimes healing is progressive. Sometimes our change is progressive. 0:12:38.540 --> 0:12:44.210 Sometimes it's a journey. But other times. Listen. Immediately she straightened up, and that straightening up 0:13:17.790 --> 0:13:21.990 marked a new chapter, a new season, a new identity, 0:13:22.020 --> 0:13:26.070 a new way of reacting, a new praise in her lips, 0:13:26.100 --> 0:13:30.420 a new social life for her. Why? Because immediately she 0:13:30.450 --> 0:13:33.929 straightened up that which Satan had power over in her life. 0:13:33.929 --> 0:13:38.730 That which had that which had bound her for 18 0:13:38.730 --> 0:13:41.969 years was released by the power of the Word of God, 0:13:41.970 --> 0:13:45.240 by his touch and by his presence. And immediately she 0:13:45.240 --> 0:13:48.510 was able to walk in newness of life. Immediately she 0:13:48.510 --> 0:13:51.300 was able to walk into a new season as soon 0:13:51.300 --> 0:13:56.790 as that was broken and let go of. In Luke 0:13:56.790 --> 0:14:00.800 chapter four, a few chapters earlier, Luke chapter four, verse 18. 0:14:00.830 --> 0:14:02.960 It says, The Spirit of the Lord is on me 0:14:03.380 --> 0:14:08.840 because he has anointed me. Anointing means the unction of 0:14:08.840 --> 0:14:12.170 power and authority to do something. He has anointed me 0:14:12.170 --> 0:14:14.630 to proclaim the good news to the poor. He has 0:14:14.630 --> 0:14:18.110 sent me to proclaim freedom to the prisoners, recovery of 0:14:18.110 --> 0:14:22.850 sight to the blind, and to set the oppressed free. 0:14:25.970 --> 0:14:31.310 He said to this woman, you are free from your infirmity. 0:14:31.310 --> 0:14:34.490 By the way, this is written the way that Jesus 0:14:34.490 --> 0:14:38.060 says it is in the perfect tense. And you say, well, pastor, 0:14:38.060 --> 0:14:39.770 I don't really care what tense it was in, but 0:14:39.770 --> 0:14:44.480 it makes a difference the verbiage of it, because it 0:14:44.480 --> 0:14:47.510 was written in the perfect tense, which means it took 0:14:47.510 --> 0:14:51.710 place in the past and continues in effect. In other words, 0:14:51.710 --> 0:14:57.050 what Jesus said is you were and you are set 0:14:57.050 --> 0:15:02.710 free from your infirmity. You were, and you are continuing 0:15:02.740 --> 0:15:05.470 to be set free from your infirmity. It's in the 0:15:05.470 --> 0:15:10.450 present tense, which has an implication to it, because he's 0:15:10.450 --> 0:15:14.440 telling her that she's been set free from the effects 0:15:14.440 --> 0:15:17.800 of her past. She's not just walking in freedom in 0:15:17.800 --> 0:15:21.670 her present, but the healing that Jesus was bringing about 0:15:21.670 --> 0:15:25.300 was affecting her past as well. It had. It was 0:15:25.300 --> 0:15:29.020 reaching out into her past. It was obliterating some of 0:15:29.020 --> 0:15:31.510 the effects of her past, and it was taking into 0:15:31.540 --> 0:15:38.470 her new season as well. The power of Jesus words, 0:15:40.300 --> 0:15:43.030 you know, by the way, and I don't have time 0:15:43.030 --> 0:15:47.290 to get into it today. But the Bible says in 0:15:47.290 --> 0:15:51.160 verse 14 that people were indignant because Jesus had healed 0:15:51.160 --> 0:15:53.620 on the Sabbath. And the synagogue leaders said to the people, 0:15:53.650 --> 0:15:56.500 are there sick days for works? So come, and why 0:15:56.500 --> 0:15:58.720 have you healed on those days and not on the Sabbath? 0:15:58.720 --> 0:16:02.030 People were not happy. Some of the religious Pharisees were 0:16:02.030 --> 0:16:04.370 not happy that she was set free. They were so 0:16:04.370 --> 0:16:07.850 bound in religion that they couldn't see what God was doing. 0:16:09.950 --> 0:16:13.550 I believe that some people are more comfortable with the 0:16:13.550 --> 0:16:17.960 old you than with the new you. I'm just wondering if you are here today 0:16:31.280 --> 0:16:35.030 and the presence of Jesus is here, and the Word 0:16:35.030 --> 0:16:39.200 of God is here, and the touch of God is here. 0:16:39.320 --> 0:16:42.350 I'm just wondering if you've been stuck in a season 0:16:42.350 --> 0:16:46.400 for a long time, and there is a route that 0:16:46.400 --> 0:16:52.250 the enemy has used to keep you stuck. I don't 0:16:52.280 --> 0:16:56.900 know what that route is. Maybe it's a route of shame. 0:16:58.070 --> 0:17:04.109 Maybe it's a route of guilt.
