That's sharefacs dot org. 14 00:00:54,680 --> 00:00:56,880 Speaker 2: I mentioned before. We're gonna go to Indianapolis coming up 15 00:00:56,920 --> 00:01:00,279 Speaker 2: at four thirty five and talk about Reuben Bain and 16 00:01:00,360 --> 00:01:04,000 Speaker 2: is his arm length the Brendan Sorosby thing. Will discuss 17 00:01:04,640 --> 00:01:07,240 Speaker 2: in further detail a little bit later on. Chad Brendle's 18 00:01:07,240 --> 00:01:09,160 Speaker 2: going to join us at three forty five to talk 19 00:01:09,480 --> 00:01:14,560 Speaker 2: about Soresby versus you see and UC Bearcat basketball on 20 00:01:14,600 --> 00:01:19,840 Speaker 2: the heels of Tuesday's loss to Texas Tech. So we 21 00:01:19,959 --> 00:01:24,600 Speaker 2: today found out that Rubin Bain, who look may or 22 00:01:24,640 --> 00:01:26,440 Speaker 2: may not be there when the Bengals go on the 23 00:01:26,440 --> 00:01:31,720 Speaker 2: clock with the tenth overall pick, has historically short arms 24 00:01:32,400 --> 00:01:35,759 Speaker 2: thirty and seven a seven inch And this has been 25 00:01:35,800 --> 00:01:39,080 Speaker 2: talked about really since midway through his final season in college, 26 00:01:39,120 --> 00:01:43,000 Speaker 2: when the production was off the charts. Twenty and a 27 00:01:43,040 --> 00:01:45,440 Speaker 2: half sacks during his college career, nine and a half 28 00:01:45,520 --> 00:01:48,800 Speaker 2: last season, fifty four tackles, a forest fumble had a pick. 29 00:01:49,400 --> 00:01:51,520 Speaker 2: If you watched him in the Big Ten title game, 30 00:01:52,520 --> 00:01:55,440 Speaker 2: I'm sorry. If you watched him in the National title game, 31 00:01:55,640 --> 00:01:57,480 Speaker 2: the hell I'm thinking there. If you watched him in 32 00:01:57,480 --> 00:02:00,320 Speaker 2: the National Title Game, even though Miami lost in Ena, 33 00:02:00,400 --> 00:02:04,200 Speaker 2: he was spectacular, He was awesome. You could not help 34 00:02:04,240 --> 00:02:06,920 Speaker 2: but watch him that night and imagine what it might 35 00:02:07,120 --> 00:02:09,639 Speaker 2: what it would be like to have him in stripes. 36 00:02:10,919 --> 00:02:14,519 Speaker 2: But all along, as his season played out and as 37 00:02:14,560 --> 00:02:18,680 Speaker 2: the draft process has started, people have talked about his 38 00:02:18,840 --> 00:02:24,200 Speaker 2: arm length. Today, his arm measurements length, the arm measurements 39 00:02:24,200 --> 00:02:27,640 Speaker 2: were made public for what it's worth. David Bailey from 40 00:02:27,840 --> 00:02:30,400 Speaker 2: Texas Tech, who is viewed as a lot to be 41 00:02:30,440 --> 00:02:34,360 Speaker 2: a first rounder has arms that are being measured as 42 00:02:35,280 --> 00:02:39,800 Speaker 2: thirty three and five as of an inch, so basically 43 00:02:39,840 --> 00:02:43,720 Speaker 2: three inches longer than ruben Bain. And there's a whole 44 00:02:43,720 --> 00:02:47,240 Speaker 2: bunch of other players who play ruben Bain's position and 45 00:02:47,320 --> 00:02:50,920 Speaker 2: they've come in with marks of thirty two plus or 46 00:02:51,000 --> 00:02:54,800 Speaker 2: thirty three plus, and for comparison's sake, for what it's worth, 47 00:02:54,880 --> 00:02:57,240 Speaker 2: because you could see that number and go, Okay, I 48 00:02:57,240 --> 00:02:59,040 Speaker 2: don't know if that's long or short. I'll be the 49 00:02:59,040 --> 00:03:01,240 Speaker 2: first man I ain't know it. I saw that. I'm like, okay, 50 00:03:01,320 --> 00:03:04,920 Speaker 2: is that long as short? Well? Because people keep track 51 00:03:04,960 --> 00:03:07,880 Speaker 2: of such things. The only edge rushers to have shorter 52 00:03:08,040 --> 00:03:10,480 Speaker 2: arms since nineteen ninety nine than Reuben Bain or Cash 53 00:03:10,520 --> 00:03:14,120 Speaker 2: as how and Nate Williams. That is it so historically 54 00:03:14,280 --> 00:03:18,800 Speaker 2: short arms? Now you know who knows dude? That dude 55 00:03:18,880 --> 00:03:20,800 Speaker 2: might not be there when the Bengals go on the clock. 56 00:03:21,360 --> 00:03:24,400 Speaker 2: Maybe he's there, and maybe Caleb Downs is there. And 57 00:03:25,320 --> 00:03:29,679 Speaker 2: Caleb Downs is being called like the greatest safety prospect 58 00:03:29,680 --> 00:03:33,200 Speaker 2: that some of these draft knicks have ever studied. And 59 00:03:33,760 --> 00:03:35,960 Speaker 2: I said this to Paul Danner Junior last week. When 60 00:03:36,000 --> 00:03:39,840 Speaker 2: you hear smart people talk about Caleb Downs. After breaking 61 00:03:39,880 --> 00:03:45,200 Speaker 2: down his tape, you almost almost get aroused, and you 62 00:03:45,920 --> 00:03:48,680 Speaker 2: start to think about and salivate over what that dude 63 00:03:48,760 --> 00:03:52,160 Speaker 2: can do in a Bengals uniform, if he was available 64 00:03:52,520 --> 00:03:54,840 Speaker 2: and if the Bengals took him. But I think the 65 00:03:54,920 --> 00:03:58,280 Speaker 2: Ruben Bain conversation is interesting because we just did something 66 00:03:58,920 --> 00:04:03,960 Speaker 2: somewhat similar last year. The Bengals leaned into traits. Now 67 00:04:03,960 --> 00:04:06,880 Speaker 2: with Shamar Stewart, the traits were off the charts, right. 68 00:04:07,080 --> 00:04:11,320 Speaker 2: The measurables, the stuff that you could hold a stopwatch 69 00:04:11,360 --> 00:04:15,640 Speaker 2: too or put a measuring tape on. The measurables were 70 00:04:15,680 --> 00:04:18,799 Speaker 2: off the charts, And like I do believe we focused 71 00:04:18,800 --> 00:04:22,679 Speaker 2: a little bit too much on the relatively low sack total, 72 00:04:22,760 --> 00:04:25,760 Speaker 2: not even relatively the low sack total, because he was disruptive. 73 00:04:25,800 --> 00:04:29,760 Speaker 2: He frequently beat his blocker. He did impact plays from 74 00:04:29,800 --> 00:04:33,680 Speaker 2: a positive perspective at Texas A and M, but he 75 00:04:33,720 --> 00:04:35,719 Speaker 2: didn't finish plays. He didn't get to the quarterback and 76 00:04:35,760 --> 00:04:38,360 Speaker 2: finish the play and get a sack as often as 77 00:04:38,400 --> 00:04:40,839 Speaker 2: you would like for a player who plays his position 78 00:04:41,200 --> 00:04:43,599 Speaker 2: that you're gonna use a first round pick on. So 79 00:04:43,640 --> 00:04:45,760 Speaker 2: what the Bengals lean into. They leaned into the traits. 80 00:04:46,600 --> 00:04:50,080 Speaker 2: So Duke Tobin has said pass rush is king, Like 81 00:04:50,120 --> 00:04:54,080 Speaker 2: that's from Duke Tobin. If there's one takeaway from either 82 00:04:54,120 --> 00:04:56,760 Speaker 2: of Duke Tobin's two press conferences that he has had 83 00:04:57,040 --> 00:04:59,560 Speaker 2: since the end of the season last year, it's a 84 00:05:00,120 --> 00:05:02,880 Speaker 2: that he's the guy who traded for Joe Flacco and 85 00:05:03,040 --> 00:05:07,400 Speaker 2: b pass rush is king. Duke Tobin telling you that 86 00:05:07,440 --> 00:05:10,480 Speaker 2: would suggest they're going to go heavy into upgrading the 87 00:05:10,520 --> 00:05:13,160 Speaker 2: pass rush. Now, the first wave is obviously free agency. 88 00:05:13,800 --> 00:05:18,240 Speaker 2: Are there starting caliber edges? Are there starting caliber defensive tackles? 89 00:05:18,480 --> 00:05:20,760 Speaker 2: Can they use free agency to make the pass rush 90 00:05:20,800 --> 00:05:23,599 Speaker 2: better and then combine that with players from last year 91 00:05:23,720 --> 00:05:26,880 Speaker 2: like Miles Murphy who feels like an ascending player and 92 00:05:27,040 --> 00:05:29,320 Speaker 2: like Shamar Stewart who they're not going to give up on. 93 00:05:29,640 --> 00:05:32,200 Speaker 2: Can they take what they have add from outside in 94 00:05:32,279 --> 00:05:36,159 Speaker 2: free agency and make the pass rush significantly better? But 95 00:05:36,240 --> 00:05:39,359 Speaker 2: if pass rush is king, it would suggest that statement 96 00:05:39,400 --> 00:05:42,240 Speaker 2: would suggest that even if they address pass rush and 97 00:05:42,320 --> 00:05:45,440 Speaker 2: free agency, they're not gonna stop there, which means if 98 00:05:45,440 --> 00:05:48,160 Speaker 2: a guy like Ruben Bain is there at ten, then 99 00:05:48,200 --> 00:05:50,160 Speaker 2: you at least have to consider the possibility that the 100 00:05:50,160 --> 00:05:52,960 Speaker 2: Bengals would take them. Where are they going to be 101 00:05:53,080 --> 00:05:58,600 Speaker 2: with traits? When and if that is the scenario, because 102 00:05:58,720 --> 00:06:00,760 Speaker 2: it was easy to look at last year and say, 103 00:06:00,839 --> 00:06:03,479 Speaker 2: what what they should do is care less about the 104 00:06:03,520 --> 00:06:06,800 Speaker 2: traits and look more at the production. And I would 105 00:06:06,800 --> 00:06:09,240 Speaker 2: agree with that, I think, frankly right now most of 106 00:06:09,320 --> 00:06:11,200 Speaker 2: us would. And part of it is a reaction to 107 00:06:11,360 --> 00:06:15,120 Speaker 2: just the rookie season that Shamar Stewart had, which you know, 108 00:06:15,160 --> 00:06:17,080 Speaker 2: he got hurt and that was really the big story 109 00:06:17,080 --> 00:06:20,320 Speaker 2: to his rookie season. But last year it was ignore 110 00:06:20,400 --> 00:06:24,360 Speaker 2: the traits, ignore the traits, focus more on what the 111 00:06:24,480 --> 00:06:27,960 Speaker 2: dude puts on tape. If you're doing that with Ruben Bain, 112 00:06:28,480 --> 00:06:33,320 Speaker 2: I mean, just go watch, go look the tape. Don't lie. 113 00:06:34,200 --> 00:06:38,040 Speaker 2: He is disruptive, he is powerful, He can come at 114 00:06:38,080 --> 00:06:41,160 Speaker 2: you with a variety of different moves like he's everything 115 00:06:41,200 --> 00:06:44,080 Speaker 2: you're looking for if you're trying to upgrade your pass 116 00:06:44,160 --> 00:06:48,040 Speaker 2: rush via the draft, if you're just looking at it 117 00:06:48,080 --> 00:06:52,200 Speaker 2: through the lens of production. If we want the Bengals 118 00:06:52,240 --> 00:06:54,279 Speaker 2: to do what many said we want them to do 119 00:06:54,400 --> 00:06:58,880 Speaker 2: last year, then we're sort of we're not totally discounting 120 00:06:58,920 --> 00:07:01,560 Speaker 2: the arm length, but it's it's not going to be 121 00:07:01,560 --> 00:07:06,000 Speaker 2: the major variable that influences the decision to not take 122 00:07:06,080 --> 00:07:09,920 Speaker 2: them that dramatically influences the decision to not take them, 123 00:07:10,040 --> 00:07:12,640 Speaker 2: or do the Bengals have their way of doing things 124 00:07:12,640 --> 00:07:14,320 Speaker 2: and go, you know what, we love the production. The 125 00:07:14,320 --> 00:07:17,679 Speaker 2: production is awesome. But yeah, there was abundantly good production. 126 00:07:17,840 --> 00:07:20,280 Speaker 2: But you know what, this one measurable and by the way, 127 00:07:20,360 --> 00:07:24,520 Speaker 2: all the other measurables are fine. Like, there's not a 128 00:07:24,560 --> 00:07:27,280 Speaker 2: lot else to not like about Ruben Baine if you're 129 00:07:27,320 --> 00:07:33,160 Speaker 2: looking at you know, measurables size, Wait, how he runs 130 00:07:33,200 --> 00:07:35,520 Speaker 2: all that sort of stuff. I do think this is 131 00:07:35,520 --> 00:07:37,960 Speaker 2: interesting and like I think a lot of us want 132 00:07:37,960 --> 00:07:42,240 Speaker 2: to do just what comes naturally, and it's it's lean 133 00:07:42,320 --> 00:07:45,400 Speaker 2: into what we've seen. Like again, man, I watched that 134 00:07:45,520 --> 00:07:48,880 Speaker 2: National championship game and I was rooting for Indiana, but 135 00:07:49,560 --> 00:07:53,960 Speaker 2: I couldn't help stop but thinking about Ruben Bain and like, dude, 136 00:07:53,960 --> 00:07:55,760 Speaker 2: who knows if that dude's going to be there? Who 137 00:07:55,800 --> 00:07:59,360 Speaker 2: knows if? Who knows who knows how free agency is 138 00:07:59,360 --> 00:08:02,680 Speaker 2: gonna unfold? Who knows how? Who knows how the first 139 00:08:03,320 --> 00:08:05,360 Speaker 2: nine picks of the draft are going to unfold. Maybe 140 00:08:05,400 --> 00:08:06,920 Speaker 2: a lot of teams are scared off by the arm 141 00:08:06,960 --> 00:08:08,240 Speaker 2: length and you go, you know what, this is not 142 00:08:08,280 --> 00:08:09,640 Speaker 2: a guy we would take with a third or fourth 143 00:08:09,680 --> 00:08:12,040 Speaker 2: overall pick, but with where we are drafting, we will 144 00:08:12,080 --> 00:08:17,200 Speaker 2: gladly take him. I don't know, but they measure arm 145 00:08:17,280 --> 00:08:21,160 Speaker 2: size and arm length for a reason. So the fact 146 00:08:21,200 --> 00:08:23,160 Speaker 2: that they measure for it would tell you that it's 147 00:08:23,200 --> 00:08:26,480 Speaker 2: not something that anybody is necessarily going to ignore. It 148 00:08:26,560 --> 00:08:31,000 Speaker 2: will be fascinating to see if he's available. If the 149 00:08:31,040 --> 00:08:33,320 Speaker 2: Bengals say, you know what, this year, we're gonna go 150 00:08:33,400 --> 00:08:37,160 Speaker 2: more for what we're seeing on tape and we're gonna 151 00:08:37,200 --> 00:08:40,880 Speaker 2: let that sort of I don't know outweigh this one 152 00:08:41,200 --> 00:08:46,800 Speaker 2: basic measurable metric arm length, or or does a team 153 00:08:46,800 --> 00:08:50,640 Speaker 2: that leans into traits say, you know what, we're leaning 154 00:08:50,640 --> 00:08:53,040 Speaker 2: into traits and with this there's this one thing we 155 00:08:53,080 --> 00:08:54,880 Speaker 2: don't like and so we're gonna go in another direction. 156 00:08:55,240 --> 00:08:56,800 Speaker 2: I don't know how you don't take him if he's there, 157 00:08:57,559 --> 00:08:59,560 Speaker 2: unless you want to draft Caleb Downs. And again, very 158 00:08:59,559 --> 00:09:01,240 Speaker 2: good question as to whether or not he'll be there, 159 00:09:01,240 --> 00:09:03,080 Speaker 2: because many are calling him a top two or three 160 00:09:03,080 --> 00:09:05,760 Speaker 2: player in this draft. And then there's the whole question 161 00:09:05,840 --> 00:09:09,960 Speaker 2: of positional value how much they should value safety with 162 00:09:10,240 --> 00:09:14,240 Speaker 2: a top ten pick. We're not done talking about Reuben 163 00:09:14,320 --> 00:09:17,840 Speaker 2: Bain's arm length, not just today, but over the course 164 00:09:17,840 --> 00:09:20,600 Speaker 2: of the next two months. More on that coming up 165 00:09:20,640 --> 00:09:24,320 Speaker 2: here in just a bit. The news broke yesterday right 166 00:09:24,360 --> 00:09:28,400 Speaker 2: around five o'clock that the University of Cincinnati is suing 167 00:09:28,840 --> 00:09:32,199 Speaker 2: Brendan Soresby, who obviously played for UC the last two 168 00:09:32,280 --> 00:09:36,800 Speaker 2: years and is now said to be the starting quarterback 169 00:09:37,360 --> 00:09:40,200 Speaker 2: at Texas Tech, where he reportedly is going to make 170 00:09:40,840 --> 00:09:44,720 Speaker 2: five million dollars. The school is suing their former quarterback 171 00:09:44,800 --> 00:09:49,400 Speaker 2: in federal court, saying that he breached his NIL contract 172 00:09:50,360 --> 00:09:53,240 Speaker 2: when he refused to pay a one million dollar exit 173 00:09:53,280 --> 00:09:56,719 Speaker 2: fee once he transferred to Texas Tech. U SEE is 174 00:09:56,760 --> 00:10:01,319 Speaker 2: looking for one million dollars in liquidated damage. School says 175 00:10:01,320 --> 00:10:04,280 Speaker 2: Sowresby was contractually obligated to pay within thirty days of 176 00:10:04,280 --> 00:10:08,760 Speaker 2: transferring reportedly signed an NIL agreement with Texas Tech that's 177 00:10:08,800 --> 00:10:10,480 Speaker 2: going to pay him. I'm reading from the AP story 178 00:10:10,520 --> 00:10:13,400 Speaker 2: here between four and six million dollars, The school says. 179 00:10:13,480 --> 00:10:17,520 Speaker 2: Quote in his lucrative NIL agreement with Cincinnati Athletics, Brendan 180 00:10:17,600 --> 00:10:20,240 Speaker 2: Sowersby committed a play and to stay and play for 181 00:10:20,280 --> 00:10:23,920 Speaker 2: two years as a proud Bearcat. Representative also agreed that 182 00:10:23,920 --> 00:10:25,960 Speaker 2: if he left the university before that time, he would 183 00:10:26,000 --> 00:10:29,560 Speaker 2: pay the university a specific amount for the substantial harm 184 00:10:29,600 --> 00:10:34,440 Speaker 2: that his breach would cause. Cincinnati Athletics intends to enforce 185 00:10:34,480 --> 00:10:37,520 Speaker 2: that contractual commitment as stewards of the university's resources, the 186 00:10:37,520 --> 00:10:40,480 Speaker 2: athletics department as a duty to do so, and then 187 00:10:40,520 --> 00:10:44,240 Speaker 2: they went on to thank Brendan for his time and 188 00:10:44,880 --> 00:10:50,319 Speaker 2: wish him success in the future. This is going to 189 00:10:50,360 --> 00:10:54,959 Speaker 2: be interesting to me because we've wondered with a lot 190 00:10:55,000 --> 00:10:58,319 Speaker 2: of these nil deals and revenue sharing agreements. We've wondered 191 00:10:58,440 --> 00:11:02,880 Speaker 2: about the enforcement, if you will, how binding these contracts are. 192 00:11:04,040 --> 00:11:07,040 Speaker 2: And this is not U see being petty. It's it's 193 00:11:07,200 --> 00:11:11,360 Speaker 2: U see feeling like he an agreement that we went 194 00:11:11,400 --> 00:11:14,760 Speaker 2: into was violated and be trying to recoup a million dollars, 195 00:11:14,800 --> 00:11:17,760 Speaker 2: which is a really big deal. And like, your guess 196 00:11:17,800 --> 00:11:19,200 Speaker 2: is as good as mine as to whether or not 197 00:11:19,240 --> 00:11:22,439 Speaker 2: this goes to court. It certainly does add a dimension 198 00:11:22,520 --> 00:11:24,880 Speaker 2: to the UC Texas Tech game next season, which was 199 00:11:24,960 --> 00:11:29,080 Speaker 2: already going to be interesting because of Brendan Sorosby's presence 200 00:11:29,120 --> 00:11:32,200 Speaker 2: on the Red raiders. But like the way I look 201 00:11:32,200 --> 00:11:35,280 Speaker 2: at this, and you know who knows. But if we 202 00:11:35,320 --> 00:11:38,079 Speaker 2: want these contracts to be valid, if we want them 203 00:11:38,120 --> 00:11:44,480 Speaker 2: to be binding, then you know, then you can't You 204 00:11:44,520 --> 00:11:47,439 Speaker 2: can't blame a school. Can't blame a player either if 205 00:11:47,440 --> 00:11:49,920 Speaker 2: he feels like his contract has been breached. But you 206 00:11:49,920 --> 00:11:52,120 Speaker 2: can't blame a school for going Look, we had an agreement, 207 00:11:52,840 --> 00:11:56,160 Speaker 2: it got breached. We're owed money, we haven't gotten it yet. 208 00:11:56,280 --> 00:11:58,680 Speaker 2: We're going to court. Like that's kind of how it 209 00:11:58,679 --> 00:12:01,600 Speaker 2: works in the real world. If this gets shot down 210 00:12:02,440 --> 00:12:05,760 Speaker 2: based on just the basics of what we know, then 211 00:12:06,320 --> 00:12:09,520 Speaker 2: what's to stop anybody from breaching I can't say it. 212 00:12:09,559 --> 00:12:12,559 Speaker 2: What's to stop anybody from breaching a contract? What's to 213 00:12:12,600 --> 00:12:15,320 Speaker 2: stop anybody from just walking away from a deal that 214 00:12:15,360 --> 00:12:17,880 Speaker 2: they agreed to? Brendan Soaresby agreed to a deal at 215 00:12:17,880 --> 00:12:19,640 Speaker 2: the end of the twenty twenty four season that u 216 00:12:19,720 --> 00:12:22,880 Speaker 2: SE says was a two year contract that was they 217 00:12:22,920 --> 00:12:26,800 Speaker 2: believe binding through the end of the upcoming regular season. 218 00:12:27,440 --> 00:12:30,320 Speaker 2: And so the dude leaves, if he leaves, was supposed 219 00:12:30,320 --> 00:12:32,680 Speaker 2: to give UC a million dollars, hasn't done it yet. 220 00:12:33,000 --> 00:12:34,840 Speaker 2: I'll know about you, But where I work. If I 221 00:12:34,920 --> 00:12:38,160 Speaker 2: break my contract, I subject myself to a lawsuit. It 222 00:12:38,200 --> 00:12:41,880 Speaker 2: will be fascinating to see and hear how the courts 223 00:12:42,160 --> 00:12:45,760 Speaker 2: handle this. Reds are playing today 246 00:13:59,320 --> 00:14:03,640 Speaker 2: in Goodyear. Chase Burns on the hill for Cincinnati. A 247 00:14:03,800 --> 00:14:08,600 Speaker 2: Uhaneo Souarez, Ellie Dela Cruz, Matt McClain, Spencer Steer, Noel 248 00:14:08,720 --> 00:14:12,520 Speaker 2: ve Marte, TJ. Friedel all in the starting lineup today. 249 00:14:13,360 --> 00:14:15,680 Speaker 2: Elie Dela Cruz, by the way, has just hit a triple, 250 00:14:15,880 --> 00:14:17,959 Speaker 2: So the Reds have a guy on third. Bottom of 251 00:14:18,000 --> 00:14:20,720 Speaker 2: the first inning, game of scoreless. Chase Burns got through 252 00:14:20,720 --> 00:14:22,880 Speaker 2: the first inning without giving up a run. He did 253 00:14:22,920 --> 00:14:26,480 Speaker 2: surrender one hit. We had Sal Stewart hitting a home 254 00:14:26,560 --> 00:14:32,040 Speaker 2: run yesterday. You know, we could do this about a 255 00:14:32,040 --> 00:14:36,200 Speaker 2: lot of different guys on the team. But like, imagine, 256 00:14:37,080 --> 00:14:44,240 Speaker 2: imagine how the season unfolds. If Matt McClain ends up 257 00:14:44,280 --> 00:14:47,760 Speaker 2: being able to replicate over the course of an entire season, 258 00:14:48,360 --> 00:14:52,040 Speaker 2: the production we saw over the course of roughly ninety 259 00:14:52,120 --> 00:14:55,080 Speaker 2: games three years ago. Now that's a big ask, and 260 00:14:55,080 --> 00:14:57,080 Speaker 2: by the way, that was a very very small sample 261 00:14:57,160 --> 00:15:00,160 Speaker 2: size for Matt McClain. But the Rats have a lot 262 00:15:00,240 --> 00:15:03,840 Speaker 2: faith in him. Imagine what it is like if he 263 00:15:04,000 --> 00:15:09,000 Speaker 2: rewards their faith and sal Stewart ends up just from 264 00:15:09,040 --> 00:15:12,320 Speaker 2: a power perspective, having the sort of season that we 265 00:15:12,360 --> 00:15:17,560 Speaker 2: all believe he can have. Like that, like bookend that 266 00:15:17,720 --> 00:15:19,920 Speaker 2: like put Matt McLain in the two hole. We'll see 267 00:15:19,920 --> 00:15:24,400 Speaker 2: if he starts the season there and uh bat sal 268 00:15:24,520 --> 00:15:27,840 Speaker 2: Stewart six. By the way, Matt McLain is hitting second today. 269 00:15:27,880 --> 00:15:29,920 Speaker 2: He struck out in the first inning for what it's worth, 270 00:15:29,960 --> 00:15:34,840 Speaker 2: which is not much like. Just the key that those 271 00:15:34,880 --> 00:15:39,960 Speaker 2: two guys individually and together hold for this season is 272 00:15:40,240 --> 00:15:42,200 Speaker 2: something that we will talk about a lot just over 273 00:15:42,240 --> 00:15:45,880 Speaker 2: the next month. If you can get the sort of 274 00:15:45,920 --> 00:15:49,320 Speaker 2: production they were expecting from Matt McLain a year ago 275 00:15:50,080 --> 00:15:53,040 Speaker 2: and the sort of production from Sal Stewart that is 276 00:15:53,320 --> 00:15:56,200 Speaker 2: an extended version of what we saw from him late 277 00:15:56,200 --> 00:16:00,560 Speaker 2: in the season last year, then that's really where this 278 00:16:00,680 --> 00:16:03,760 Speaker 2: offense and offense can go from being you know, kind 279 00:16:03,800 --> 00:16:07,800 Speaker 2: of middle of the pack to something that's much much 280 00:16:07,800 --> 00:16:10,320 Speaker 2: better I was I was gonna say elite. I'm not 281 00:16:10,360 --> 00:16:15,280 Speaker 2: gonna go with elite, but much much, much much better. 282 00:16:16,440 --> 00:16:19,280 Speaker 2: More on that later on the college basketball from last night. 283 00:16:19,320 --> 00:16:22,040 Speaker 2: We had Rick Bring on the show yesterday talking Xavier 284 00:16:22,080 --> 00:16:25,200 Speaker 2: and NKU basketball. Both teams were in action last night. 285 00:16:26,120 --> 00:16:28,720 Speaker 2: Xavier falls to Providence in a game that they lose 286 00:16:28,800 --> 00:16:32,000 Speaker 2: by ten points. I don't know that the score is 287 00:16:32,160 --> 00:16:36,600 Speaker 2: really reflective of how non competitive that game was at times. 288 00:16:36,640 --> 00:16:41,160 Speaker 2: There was a stretch midway through the first half where 289 00:16:42,440 --> 00:16:45,600 Speaker 2: Xavier defensively was as bad as I've seen them this 290 00:16:45,720 --> 00:16:48,520 Speaker 2: year defensively, and that stretch was one of the worst 291 00:16:48,560 --> 00:16:51,920 Speaker 2: defensive stretches we've seen, I think from any team, certainly 292 00:16:51,920 --> 00:16:54,760 Speaker 2: in the region, at any point this year. Richard Patino 293 00:16:54,800 --> 00:16:57,760 Speaker 2: after the game on his team's lack of defensive identity. 294 00:17:01,440 --> 00:17:06,760 Speaker 5: Yeah, we just have a zero defensive you know, just identity. 295 00:17:07,480 --> 00:17:11,119 Speaker 5: We tried three different pick and roll coverages, we tried 296 00:17:11,160 --> 00:17:14,480 Speaker 5: two different zones. You know, it's just really hard to 297 00:17:14,520 --> 00:17:19,840 Speaker 5: win that way. Made some more shots in the second half. Offensively, 298 00:17:19,880 --> 00:17:23,000 Speaker 5: a little bit rattled in the first half, but obviously 299 00:17:23,000 --> 00:17:25,639 Speaker 5: shot sixty one percent in the second half, but you 300 00:17:25,640 --> 00:17:28,440 Speaker 5: know when you let a team they had two turnovers 301 00:17:28,480 --> 00:17:31,200 Speaker 5: for the majority of the game, and you know, a 302 00:17:31,240 --> 00:17:33,880 Speaker 5: lot of that's isolation basketball, so sometimes that I can 303 00:17:33,920 --> 00:17:36,800 Speaker 5: turn it over, but we just could not get a 304 00:17:36,840 --> 00:17:38,520 Speaker 5: stop to save our life. 305 00:17:39,960 --> 00:17:43,200 Speaker 2: Third straight loss for the Musketeers. Richard on with Joe 306 00:17:43,200 --> 00:17:47,399 Speaker 2: and Byron on fifty five KRC. Three consecutive losses, five 307 00:17:47,480 --> 00:17:50,960 Speaker 2: losses in six games, eight out of ten And like 308 00:17:51,640 --> 00:17:53,720 Speaker 2: I think most of us have watched Davier this year 309 00:17:53,760 --> 00:17:57,840 Speaker 2: and we've arrived at the conclusion that Richard Patino is 310 00:17:57,880 --> 00:17:59,959 Speaker 2: the guy because it has felt like he has got 311 00:18:01,160 --> 00:18:03,880 Speaker 2: as much out of that roster as you could ask. 312 00:18:04,000 --> 00:18:09,159 Speaker 2: There's a huge talent efficiency. Now it also sort of 313 00:18:09,160 --> 00:18:12,359 Speaker 2: feels like they're they're on the they're on the cusp 314 00:18:12,400 --> 00:18:14,640 Speaker 2: of limping to the finish line here and there. They're 315 00:18:14,680 --> 00:18:17,480 Speaker 2: home for Georgetown, who they beat in the game where 316 00:18:17,560 --> 00:18:19,320 Speaker 2: Ed Cooley threw a water bottle at the end of 317 00:18:19,359 --> 00:18:23,840 Speaker 2: it in late December. That feels like forever ago. They 318 00:18:23,880 --> 00:18:27,600 Speaker 2: have Seaton Hall here. They're gonna be underdogs in that game, 319 00:18:27,640 --> 00:18:30,240 Speaker 2: I believe, and they have to go to Villanova. They 320 00:18:30,240 --> 00:18:33,639 Speaker 2: will be underdogs in that game. They're five and twelve 321 00:18:33,720 --> 00:18:39,919 Speaker 2: in league play like it, it's gonna feel unfulfilling if 322 00:18:40,040 --> 00:18:44,640 Speaker 2: limping to the finish line includes three consecutive losses and 323 00:18:45,200 --> 00:18:47,879 Speaker 2: you end the regular season with eighteen ls. In the 324 00:18:47,920 --> 00:18:50,280 Speaker 2: grand scheme of things, that may not matter because ultimately 325 00:18:50,320 --> 00:18:52,000 Speaker 2: what they need is better players. And I think it's 326 00:18:52,000 --> 00:18:55,280 Speaker 2: gonna be really interesting when you know we're getting set 327 00:18:55,280 --> 00:18:57,520 Speaker 2: for the season next year, to see how much better 328 00:18:57,640 --> 00:19:00,760 Speaker 2: the Xavier talent is at the beginning of next season 329 00:19:01,280 --> 00:19:04,280 Speaker 2: compared to what we've watched so far for twenty eight games. 330 00:19:04,800 --> 00:19:06,480 Speaker 2: And they got back in the game offensively in the 331 00:19:06,480 --> 00:19:09,439 Speaker 2: second half. They were at Xavier at their best this 332 00:19:09,560 --> 00:19:12,679 Speaker 2: year has been fun to watch. Offensively, they've run, they've 333 00:19:13,040 --> 00:19:15,160 Speaker 2: converted at a pretty good rate near the rim, better 334 00:19:15,200 --> 00:19:17,919 Speaker 2: than certainly back in November, and they did some of 335 00:19:17,960 --> 00:19:20,320 Speaker 2: that last night, But frankly, it just it felt like 336 00:19:20,359 --> 00:19:23,120 Speaker 2: at that point garbage time came really early last night. 337 00:19:23,200 --> 00:19:26,240 Speaker 2: In Providence, NKU wins last night go to Cleveland State 338 00:19:26,840 --> 00:19:29,679 Speaker 2: beat the Vikings eighty one to seventy. Donovan Oday with 339 00:19:29,720 --> 00:19:33,280 Speaker 2: a perfect night twenty two points on eight of eight 340 00:19:33,320 --> 00:19:35,639 Speaker 2: shooting from the field, two of two from behind the ark, 341 00:19:35,720 --> 00:19:39,240 Speaker 2: and four for four from the free throw line. LJ. 342 00:19:39,400 --> 00:19:41,680 Speaker 2: Wells with his fifth double double twenty four and twelve 343 00:19:41,720 --> 00:19:43,879 Speaker 2: for the Norse last night, who improved to ten and 344 00:19:44,119 --> 00:19:48,040 Speaker 2: nine in Horizon League play, and we discussed the tournament 345 00:19:48,040 --> 00:19:51,320 Speaker 2: format with Rick Browing yesterday. You can hear that conversation 346 00:19:51,800 --> 00:19:56,280 Speaker 2: on the iHeartRadio app. Speaking of which, we had Paul 347 00:19:56,359 --> 00:20:00,240 Speaker 2: Danner Junior on the show yesterday from the combine on 348 00:20:00,440 --> 00:20:02,880 Speaker 2: like the aftermath of what Duke Tobin had to say 349 00:20:02,920 --> 00:20:06,040 Speaker 2: in Zach Taylor's comments and talking with Al Golden and 350 00:20:07,240 --> 00:20:10,160 Speaker 2: Paul as always was terrific. If you did not hear 351 00:20:10,680 --> 00:20:13,560 Speaker 2: that chat, you should go listen to it now or 352 00:20:13,680 --> 00:20:17,080 Speaker 2: later on. And we also had on I know a 353 00:20:17,200 --> 00:20:21,440 Speaker 2: segment on this show is good when at the end 354 00:20:21,480 --> 00:20:25,879 Speaker 2: of it, I get multiple texts, including from people that 355 00:20:25,920 --> 00:20:29,240 Speaker 2: I don't usually hear from, who go out of their 356 00:20:29,240 --> 00:20:31,679 Speaker 2: way to tell me how much they liked a certain guest. 357 00:20:31,880 --> 00:20:34,919 Speaker 2: So we had on Lindsay Roads yesterday. Lindsey for years 358 00:20:35,840 --> 00:20:39,800 Speaker 2: was on the NFL Network, hosted NFL All Access and 359 00:20:39,840 --> 00:20:44,840 Speaker 2: now she's with Sumer Sports, and we had like a 360 00:20:45,000 --> 00:20:49,800 Speaker 2: real kind of wonky we'll go with wonky analytical but 361 00:20:49,960 --> 00:20:53,639 Speaker 2: fun conversation about the combine and what we should be 362 00:20:53,720 --> 00:20:56,720 Speaker 2: paying attention to this week. We ended the interview by 363 00:20:56,720 --> 00:21:00,919 Speaker 2: talking about hotel room beds, which hoole unimportant. But the 364 00:21:00,960 --> 00:21:02,960 Speaker 2: other stuff, like the first thirteen fourteen minutes of it 365 00:21:03,000 --> 00:21:05,920 Speaker 2: was terrific. So if you missed that, take it from 366 00:21:05,920 --> 00:21:08,040 Speaker 2: the people who texted me yesterday. Go listen to it. 367 00:21:08,040 --> 00:21:11,199 Speaker 2: It's available on the iHeartRadio app, or you can go 368 00:21:11,240 --> 00:21:13,960 Speaker 2: to my page at ESPN fifteen thirty dot com. They've outscored them 398 00:22:56,880 --> 00:23:00,800 Speaker 2: thirteen nothing in the two matches they've played, so they'll Meanwhile, 399 00:23:00,800 --> 00:23:02,800 Speaker 2: they got up to a good start in MLS regular 400 00:23:02,840 --> 00:23:06,840 Speaker 2: season play. Who is with us right now, Dax, 407 00:23:24,119 --> 00:23:27,240 Speaker 2: It's awesome to have you. Good afternoon. How are you doing? 408 00:23:27,280 --> 00:23:27,480 Speaker 6: Great? 409 00:23:27,480 --> 00:23:27,760 Speaker 2: Guys? 410 00:23:27,760 --> 00:23:31,400 Speaker 7: How are we doing? That was quite the offensive outburst last. 411 00:23:31,240 --> 00:23:31,800 Speaker 8: Night, wasn't it. 412 00:23:31,880 --> 00:23:38,080 Speaker 2: Huh yeah, you know, Wei, yeah, yeah, really, we got 413 00:23:38,119 --> 00:23:41,920 Speaker 2: a glimpse into FC Cincinnati's youth, which was really cool. 414 00:23:42,000 --> 00:23:45,880 Speaker 2: How many times in your career, pro or amateur were 415 00:23:45,880 --> 00:23:48,080 Speaker 2: you a part of a match where a team scored 416 00:23:48,160 --> 00:23:50,000 Speaker 2: nine goals and were you ever on the receiving end 417 00:23:50,040 --> 00:23:50,239 Speaker 2: of it? 418 00:23:51,560 --> 00:23:54,520 Speaker 7: Absolutely not, ever on the receiving end of something like that. 419 00:23:54,600 --> 00:23:57,280 Speaker 7: I think if you're an MLS team and you're on 420 00:23:57,320 --> 00:23:59,879 Speaker 7: the receiving end of a nine to zero result or 421 00:24:00,080 --> 00:24:02,040 Speaker 7: four line, and I think it's time to hang them up. 422 00:24:02,080 --> 00:24:04,440 Speaker 7: But I was on you know, I was on the 423 00:24:04,520 --> 00:24:07,920 Speaker 7: right side of a seven zero victory in a very 424 00:24:07,960 --> 00:24:12,000 Speaker 7: big Darby game. New York Red Bulls NYCFC. I don't 425 00:24:12,040 --> 00:24:14,239 Speaker 7: need to bring it up. If any NYC fans get 426 00:24:14,280 --> 00:24:16,520 Speaker 7: a hold of this audio, they're gonna hate me even 427 00:24:16,520 --> 00:24:19,320 Speaker 7: more than they already do. But nine goals in a game, 428 00:24:19,400 --> 00:24:21,760 Speaker 7: I mean, doesn't matter who the opponent is. That's definitely 429 00:24:21,800 --> 00:24:22,640 Speaker 7: something to celebrate. 430 00:24:23,400 --> 00:24:26,520 Speaker 2: Yeah, I had I had two thoughts. One was this 431 00:24:26,600 --> 00:24:28,879 Speaker 2: is awesome, this is fun, and the other wise you 432 00:24:28,960 --> 00:24:31,240 Speaker 2: might need some of those on Saturday. What do we 433 00:24:31,320 --> 00:24:35,960 Speaker 2: learn about FC Cincinnati in the match against Atlanta? Well, 434 00:24:36,080 --> 00:24:36,439 Speaker 2: I think you. 435 00:24:36,520 --> 00:24:39,439 Speaker 7: Learned that they have a little bit of depth to 436 00:24:39,520 --> 00:24:42,640 Speaker 7: be able to handle what, hopefully, I believe Pat Newton confirmed, 437 00:24:42,680 --> 00:24:45,600 Speaker 7: is not a serious injury to Evander. I think FC 438 00:24:45,680 --> 00:24:48,000 Speaker 7: Cincinnati fans have known for a couple of years now. 439 00:24:48,280 --> 00:24:52,080 Speaker 7: What a fantastic I guess you'd call him a reserve, 440 00:24:52,200 --> 00:24:55,720 Speaker 7: But what a fantastic compliment to a Vander that Dotto 441 00:24:55,800 --> 00:24:58,560 Speaker 7: Valezuela is. He came in, he didn't miss a beat, 442 00:24:58,640 --> 00:25:02,080 Speaker 7: he kept things ticking. He doesn't have, at this moment 443 00:25:02,119 --> 00:25:05,320 Speaker 7: in time, the same. I guess you could call it 444 00:25:06,720 --> 00:25:10,840 Speaker 7: final third killer instinct that Evander has. But Valezuela is 445 00:25:10,840 --> 00:25:13,840 Speaker 7: a soccer player. He is a great, great soccer player. 446 00:25:13,880 --> 00:25:17,600 Speaker 7: He's got a really bright future and I want to 447 00:25:17,640 --> 00:25:20,119 Speaker 7: see him with more opportunities to be on the field 448 00:25:20,160 --> 00:25:22,280 Speaker 7: more and I hope it doesn't have to come at 449 00:25:22,280 --> 00:25:25,400 Speaker 7: the expense of an injury to Evander. But I think 450 00:25:25,440 --> 00:25:27,920 Speaker 7: Cincinnati fans will will find out a lot more about 451 00:25:27,920 --> 00:25:30,119 Speaker 7: their team in the next couple of weeks in Pat 452 00:25:30,160 --> 00:25:34,199 Speaker 7: Noonan how he has evolved things tactically to try to 453 00:25:34,240 --> 00:25:36,760 Speaker 7: make up for not only losing your one of your 454 00:25:36,760 --> 00:25:38,560 Speaker 7: best players, one of the best players in the league, 455 00:25:38,600 --> 00:25:42,280 Speaker 7: but also how you can continue to evolve from being 456 00:25:42,400 --> 00:25:45,080 Speaker 7: just a very good regular season team to then carrying 457 00:25:45,119 --> 00:25:47,520 Speaker 7: that over into the playoffs. And so it was a 458 00:25:47,560 --> 00:25:51,400 Speaker 7: professional performance against Atlanta United. I was able to watch 459 00:25:51,440 --> 00:25:55,600 Speaker 7: back most of that game, and it was comfortable. They 460 00:25:55,680 --> 00:26:00,159 Speaker 7: looked comfortable. They missed a couple of golden opportunities, but 461 00:26:00,440 --> 00:26:03,359 Speaker 7: you got big moments in the match. Cincinnati got the 462 00:26:03,400 --> 00:26:05,920 Speaker 7: big moments in the match, especially in the second half. 463 00:26:06,000 --> 00:26:10,240 Speaker 2: Right, I was thinking the worst, as most of his 464 00:26:10,320 --> 00:26:12,760 Speaker 2: sports fans do, when a Vander went down the other night. 465 00:26:13,119 --> 00:26:16,520 Speaker 2: It feels like they've dodged something really serious, which is good, 466 00:26:16,800 --> 00:26:19,600 Speaker 2: I do think, though it provides an interesting test because 467 00:26:20,440 --> 00:26:22,440 Speaker 2: and I think you could say this about FC Cincinnati 468 00:26:22,440 --> 00:26:24,280 Speaker 2: going back to when Lucho Acosta was here, it felt 469 00:26:24,280 --> 00:26:26,840 Speaker 2: like there were times where they leaned on him a 470 00:26:26,880 --> 00:26:28,560 Speaker 2: little bit too much. And then I would say the 471 00:26:28,600 --> 00:26:31,159 Speaker 2: same about Avander last year, and he was up to 472 00:26:31,200 --> 00:26:33,399 Speaker 2: the task and they had a good season. But I 473 00:26:33,440 --> 00:26:35,680 Speaker 2: do think like that's been one of the storylines this year, 474 00:26:35,680 --> 00:26:38,119 Speaker 2: like can you find offense without him on the field, 475 00:26:38,600 --> 00:26:41,720 Speaker 2: And while you want him and you are breathing a 476 00:26:41,800 --> 00:26:43,800 Speaker 2: huge sigh relief that it feels like this is not 477 00:26:43,880 --> 00:26:46,680 Speaker 2: going to be something all that serious. I do think 478 00:26:46,760 --> 00:26:49,879 Speaker 2: it provides them a chance to pass an early season test, 479 00:26:50,320 --> 00:26:53,840 Speaker 2: just to see if they can generate more offense without him. 480 00:26:53,840 --> 00:26:54,520 Speaker 2: What do you say to that. 481 00:26:55,359 --> 00:26:57,919 Speaker 7: It's a wonderful point. And I put a Vander in 482 00:26:57,960 --> 00:27:01,440 Speaker 7: the same category as I would an Anders Dryer, a 483 00:27:01,560 --> 00:27:06,280 Speaker 7: Lionel Messi, Denny Bowonga, a Sun Hung Men, a superstar 484 00:27:06,480 --> 00:27:08,760 Speaker 7: who can win a game for you at the drop 485 00:27:08,800 --> 00:27:11,200 Speaker 7: of a hat. That is what Evander is and that 486 00:27:11,320 --> 00:27:13,679 Speaker 7: is why he is one of the best players in 487 00:27:13,720 --> 00:27:15,960 Speaker 7: Major League soccer. And that's why Pat Noonan is gonna 488 00:27:15,960 --> 00:27:18,239 Speaker 7: say ten times out of ten, well, I I want 489 00:27:18,320 --> 00:27:20,000 Speaker 7: him on the field, and I want him healthy, but 490 00:27:21,119 --> 00:27:23,560 Speaker 7: you also want a plan B in a Plan CE, 491 00:27:23,800 --> 00:27:28,480 Speaker 7: and sometimes whether that's through manufactured rest or whether that's 492 00:27:28,520 --> 00:27:31,160 Speaker 7: through a small injury, you are able to find out 493 00:27:31,160 --> 00:27:33,280 Speaker 7: more about your team when some of these players aren't 494 00:27:33,280 --> 00:27:35,520 Speaker 7: on the field. I would love to see Pat Noonan 495 00:27:35,880 --> 00:27:39,480 Speaker 7: be able to incorporate Valenzuela into the lineup even when 496 00:27:39,560 --> 00:27:42,840 Speaker 7: Evander is healthy, because there are times where FC Cincinnati 497 00:27:43,160 --> 00:27:45,439 Speaker 7: I think they're going to dominate the game based on 498 00:27:45,480 --> 00:27:48,320 Speaker 7: the quality of players that they have. I would love 499 00:27:48,359 --> 00:27:50,840 Speaker 7: to see them put more attacking players on the field 500 00:27:50,840 --> 00:27:53,200 Speaker 7: that are able to find different solutions. And I thought 501 00:27:53,200 --> 00:27:55,760 Speaker 7: Pat Noonan got the balance right against Atlanti and Nighted. 502 00:27:56,200 --> 00:27:59,640 Speaker 7: It was a surprise to me to see Jabbari up 503 00:27:59,640 --> 00:28:01,720 Speaker 7: top from the start. I mean, look, maybe I don't 504 00:28:01,760 --> 00:28:04,040 Speaker 7: I didn't follow them too closely in preseason. Maybe that 505 00:28:04,080 --> 00:28:07,760 Speaker 7: wasn't a surprise to Cincinnati fans, but he impressed me. 506 00:28:07,960 --> 00:28:10,879 Speaker 7: He's a big body. He provides you a different profile 507 00:28:11,320 --> 00:28:15,119 Speaker 7: to say a Brenner. He's more of a Robin to 508 00:28:15,480 --> 00:28:18,639 Speaker 7: Evander and Kevin Denk. If they're Batman right, you have 509 00:28:18,840 --> 00:28:20,720 Speaker 7: you need another guy on the field. Who's willing to 510 00:28:21,080 --> 00:28:23,280 Speaker 7: do the dirty work, who's willing to have hold up play, 511 00:28:23,440 --> 00:28:27,199 Speaker 7: who's willing to make unselfish plays and unselfish runs to 512 00:28:27,240 --> 00:28:29,879 Speaker 7: open up space for your superstars. And so I was 513 00:28:29,920 --> 00:28:33,520 Speaker 7: impressed with Jabbari's performance. I was impressed with Brian Ramirez. 514 00:28:33,640 --> 00:28:35,880 Speaker 7: Pat Noonan went out of his way to praise him 515 00:28:35,880 --> 00:28:37,800 Speaker 7: after the game. And by the way, what is it 516 00:28:37,800 --> 00:28:42,000 Speaker 7: with FC Cincinnati being able to find these absolutely fantastastic 517 00:28:42,080 --> 00:28:43,040 Speaker 7: left foot wing backs. 518 00:28:43,160 --> 00:28:45,240 Speaker 9: I don't what what is where is. 519 00:28:45,280 --> 00:28:49,160 Speaker 7: Chris Albright shopping? Because first it was alvar Obarial and 520 00:28:49,200 --> 00:28:51,680 Speaker 7: then you lost him, you replaced him with Origiano, who 521 00:28:51,720 --> 00:28:53,959 Speaker 7: looked like a match winner, and then you get rid 522 00:28:54,000 --> 00:28:56,440 Speaker 7: of Origiano and now you have Ramirez, who looks like 523 00:28:56,480 --> 00:28:58,959 Speaker 7: a fantastic addition and a great piece to the puzzle. 524 00:28:59,280 --> 00:29:03,080 Speaker 7: So I've just been really impressed continually with Chris Albright 525 00:29:03,120 --> 00:29:06,200 Speaker 7: and his ability to go and replace important players and 526 00:29:06,240 --> 00:29:09,320 Speaker 7: make sure that Pat Noonan is constantly able to refresh 527 00:29:09,400 --> 00:29:09,880 Speaker 7: this roster. 528 00:29:11,720 --> 00:29:15,360 Speaker 2: It's going to be a Saturday afternoon match on Saturday afternoon, 529 00:29:15,400 --> 00:29:17,880 Speaker 2: because that's when Saturday Afternoon matches take place. Thursdays we talk you 558 00:31:01,320 --> 00:31:04,480 Speaker 2: see sports with our guy Chad Brendle, Bearcat Journal dot 559 00:31:04,480 --> 00:31:07,920 Speaker 2: com man who hosted this show on Monday and Tuesday 560 00:31:07,960 --> 00:31:11,520 Speaker 2: of this week. And there's a lot to discuss, hi chat. 561 00:31:13,360 --> 00:31:17,480 Speaker 6: I know, I think I'm hosting the show Thursday and 562 00:31:17,520 --> 00:31:20,640 Speaker 6: Friday also of next week, and then I. 563 00:31:20,560 --> 00:31:24,320 Speaker 2: Believe the following Monday, right, yeah. 564 00:31:23,720 --> 00:31:26,840 Speaker 6: And Monday. Yeah? Is that your spring training trip? 565 00:31:27,680 --> 00:31:31,800 Speaker 2: That's the annual spring training track? Yes, yes, yes, yeah, 566 00:31:32,280 --> 00:31:35,360 Speaker 2: you and you and Jimmy have a good time counting 567 00:31:35,400 --> 00:31:37,840 Speaker 2: down the counting down the minutes. Not gonna lie to 568 00:31:37,840 --> 00:31:41,680 Speaker 2: you counting down the minutes to uh my first Arizona beer. 569 00:31:41,840 --> 00:31:46,280 Speaker 2: No question, Uh is UC versus Brendan Soresby ever actually 570 00:31:46,280 --> 00:31:49,760 Speaker 2: gonna make it to a courtroom. 571 00:31:49,960 --> 00:31:57,520 Speaker 6: I mean, I have no cluemo. This thing seems so 572 00:31:57,720 --> 00:32:01,320 Speaker 6: cut and dry, but it's all built on such a 573 00:32:01,520 --> 00:32:05,800 Speaker 6: house of cards that I mean, I guess there's a 574 00:32:05,840 --> 00:32:09,000 Speaker 6: way for them to prove through Ohio law that it 575 00:32:09,160 --> 00:32:14,160 Speaker 6: wasn't a binding contract. But I mean, if these things 576 00:32:14,200 --> 00:32:17,320 Speaker 6: aren't by like, what are we doing well? If you 577 00:32:17,440 --> 00:32:21,000 Speaker 6: can't sign a guy to a two year contract and 578 00:32:21,040 --> 00:32:24,640 Speaker 6: then hold them to the buyout in that contract, like 579 00:32:24,760 --> 00:32:29,320 Speaker 6: this thing, it's not sustained. I mean, it already doesn't 580 00:32:29,360 --> 00:32:34,680 Speaker 6: feel sustainable if this wins in court. Like, I don't know, man, 581 00:32:34,840 --> 00:32:35,320 Speaker 6: I don't know. 582 00:32:38,080 --> 00:32:41,600 Speaker 2: Do you think do you think that Joe Royer should 583 00:32:41,600 --> 00:32:43,960 Speaker 2: sue Brendan Sorosby for never throwing him the football? 584 00:32:45,520 --> 00:32:54,040 Speaker 6: Maybe? Yeah, breach a contract? Right? They were roommates, so 585 00:32:54,160 --> 00:32:56,920 Speaker 6: maybe there's like, you know, something in there that they 586 00:32:56,960 --> 00:33:00,280 Speaker 6: could he could go after. I mean, I don't know, 587 00:33:00,320 --> 00:33:04,240 Speaker 6: there's got to be a way that I just don't 588 00:33:04,320 --> 00:33:08,440 Speaker 6: I don't understand it. You you did, you see get 589 00:33:08,520 --> 00:33:12,560 Speaker 6: value out of having Brendan Soresby back for this year 590 00:33:12,640 --> 00:33:18,240 Speaker 6: from January to October. Absolutely, can they sue him back 591 00:33:18,280 --> 00:33:19,000 Speaker 6: for November? 592 00:33:23,760 --> 00:33:25,880 Speaker 2: Here's what I want to know. So you see plays 593 00:33:25,920 --> 00:33:31,040 Speaker 2: Texas Tech on October the twenty fourth, it's it's Cincinnati's homecoming. 594 00:33:31,080 --> 00:33:34,560 Speaker 2: They have the reigning Big Twelve champs in for homecoming. 595 00:33:34,960 --> 00:33:38,280 Speaker 2: Have we ever had a college football game where there's 596 00:33:38,360 --> 00:33:42,160 Speaker 2: been active litigation between one of the schools in the 597 00:33:42,200 --> 00:33:48,680 Speaker 2: game and one of the players on the other team. 598 00:33:46,600 --> 00:33:48,560 Speaker 6: You think might like, would there be a like if 599 00:33:48,600 --> 00:33:50,880 Speaker 6: he doesn't pay, would there be like a warrant out 600 00:33:50,880 --> 00:33:54,680 Speaker 6: for his arrests? Would the fuzz be with those would 601 00:33:54,720 --> 00:33:58,760 Speaker 6: those like you know, the guys that lee and those 602 00:33:58,760 --> 00:34:01,560 Speaker 6: guys that they pay for security down on the field, 603 00:34:02,160 --> 00:34:04,800 Speaker 6: would they be able to like go arrest Brendan Soresby 604 00:34:04,800 --> 00:34:05,440 Speaker 6: and warm ups? 605 00:34:07,320 --> 00:34:10,640 Speaker 2: Wouldn't that be a scene that would be fun? Yes, 606 00:34:10,719 --> 00:34:12,080 Speaker 2: that would be That would be yeah. 607 00:34:12,080 --> 00:34:15,360 Speaker 6: That would being the Bearcat get arrested right about a 608 00:34:15,400 --> 00:34:16,680 Speaker 6: closing teams quarterback. 609 00:34:17,480 --> 00:34:19,840 Speaker 2: So that's that's one of the things I might really 610 00:34:19,920 --> 00:34:22,000 Speaker 2: like about this era of college sports that we're in 611 00:34:22,080 --> 00:34:24,200 Speaker 2: is we're going to have schools suing players and then 612 00:34:24,239 --> 00:34:26,600 Speaker 2: those players having to play against the school, the school 613 00:34:26,640 --> 00:34:29,279 Speaker 2: that suit them, and it just it it ratchet is 614 00:34:29,320 --> 00:34:31,200 Speaker 2: it ratchets things up a little bit? And I'm here 615 00:34:31,239 --> 00:34:31,560 Speaker 2: for it. 616 00:34:33,640 --> 00:34:37,040 Speaker 6: Yeah. I I don't know, man, Like you made a 617 00:34:37,080 --> 00:34:39,719 Speaker 6: lot of money at you see, Brendan, you made a 618 00:34:39,719 --> 00:34:44,440 Speaker 6: lot of money going to Texas Tech. Like to me, 619 00:34:44,520 --> 00:34:45,360 Speaker 6: you know what it sounds like. 620 00:34:45,440 --> 00:34:52,280 Speaker 11: No one these crooked ass agents in college are taking 621 00:34:52,440 --> 00:34:56,200 Speaker 11: twenty percent off the top of these contracts. 622 00:34:57,960 --> 00:35:00,759 Speaker 6: I mean, is this guy acting the way he is 623 00:35:00,800 --> 00:35:06,439 Speaker 6: his agent because it's gonna cost him two hundred thousand dollars? Right? 624 00:35:07,120 --> 00:35:12,600 Speaker 2: Yeah, h fair question. Chad brenda Is at Journal dot com. Hey, 625 00:35:13,080 --> 00:35:16,279 Speaker 2: I get it. I am amused by the fact that 626 00:35:16,320 --> 00:35:19,719 Speaker 2: you have a school suing a player who may play 627 00:35:19,719 --> 00:35:22,040 Speaker 2: against him in October, Like, well, you won't play against 628 00:35:22,080 --> 00:35:24,160 Speaker 2: him in October barring injury, and we'll see if there's 629 00:35:24,160 --> 00:35:27,960 Speaker 2: still active litigation. But no, man, I'm your basic premise. 630 00:35:28,000 --> 00:35:30,719 Speaker 2: I agree with if if you can't enforce this contract, 631 00:35:30,800 --> 00:35:33,360 Speaker 2: then legitimately, what are we doing? And we ask that 632 00:35:33,480 --> 00:35:36,719 Speaker 2: somewhat rhetorically, but in an era where you know, the 633 00:35:37,120 --> 00:35:40,319 Speaker 2: entire foundation of college sports seems to have never been 634 00:35:40,360 --> 00:35:43,680 Speaker 2: flimsier than it is right now. Contracts may be the 635 00:35:43,719 --> 00:35:45,640 Speaker 2: last thing holding it up. And so if we decide 636 00:35:45,640 --> 00:35:47,680 Speaker 2: that they're null and void and can't be enforced, then 637 00:35:48,000 --> 00:35:49,319 Speaker 2: then what's the point of any of us. 638 00:35:50,680 --> 00:35:53,240 Speaker 6: I mean, here's the question, bro. If Brendan Sorsby plays 639 00:35:53,280 --> 00:35:59,200 Speaker 6: two games last year and suffers an injury that you know, 640 00:35:59,320 --> 00:36:02,840 Speaker 6: God forbid severely limits the rest of his playing career, 641 00:36:04,000 --> 00:36:06,680 Speaker 6: could Cincinnati have backed out of that two year contract 642 00:36:06,840 --> 00:36:10,040 Speaker 6: and said we're not paying twenty twenty six Because I'm 643 00:36:10,040 --> 00:36:14,120 Speaker 6: guessing if that was the case, Brendon Soorsby's lawyers would 644 00:36:14,160 --> 00:36:17,840 Speaker 6: be knocking on Cincinnati's door saying, we want our money. 645 00:36:20,400 --> 00:36:26,080 Speaker 2: Yeah, let's switch gears. Can the Bearcats win the remaining 646 00:36:26,080 --> 00:36:27,800 Speaker 2: three regular season basketball games? 647 00:36:30,080 --> 00:36:35,520 Speaker 6: Can they? Sure? I mean, I was busy working the 648 00:36:35,600 --> 00:36:39,760 Speaker 6: other night and I got done working and I looked 649 00:36:39,840 --> 00:36:43,920 Speaker 6: up and UCF was up seventy five to thirty on 650 00:36:44,040 --> 00:36:56,360 Speaker 6: BYU seventy five to thirty. Now, in the next sixteen minutes, 651 00:36:57,360 --> 00:37:01,600 Speaker 6: I think BYU scored something like fifty six points in 652 00:37:01,640 --> 00:37:04,719 Speaker 6: the next sixteen minutes. So beating them is not going 653 00:37:04,800 --> 00:37:09,239 Speaker 6: to be easy. But I mean, Oklahoma State is struggling 654 00:37:09,320 --> 00:37:13,120 Speaker 6: right now, their best, second best player gets hurt in 655 00:37:13,160 --> 00:37:17,359 Speaker 6: the final five seconds of overtime in that West Virginia game. 656 00:37:19,239 --> 00:37:23,640 Speaker 6: You should have an advantage there. BYU, you know a 657 00:37:23,640 --> 00:37:25,640 Speaker 6: lot of it. I think a lot of BYU. Devans 658 00:37:25,800 --> 00:37:29,680 Speaker 6: is gonna get his he's incredible. Can you shut down 659 00:37:29,760 --> 00:37:32,560 Speaker 6: Rob Right? If you can shut down Rob Right and 660 00:37:32,640 --> 00:37:36,800 Speaker 6: they don't have Richie Saunders Sanders like you got a 661 00:37:36,880 --> 00:37:42,880 Speaker 6: chance against BYU. I mean the toughest one might be TCU. 662 00:37:42,960 --> 00:37:46,560 Speaker 6: At home, they're on the bubble, they're gonna be playing 663 00:37:46,600 --> 00:37:50,960 Speaker 6: for their tournament life. Jamie Dixon's teams over the past 664 00:37:50,960 --> 00:37:55,800 Speaker 6: couple of years have historically been significantly better at home 665 00:37:55,840 --> 00:37:58,759 Speaker 6: than they are on the road. That one's gonna be 666 00:37:59,719 --> 00:38:03,080 Speaker 6: I mean b YU and tc You're both gonna be 667 00:38:03,080 --> 00:38:06,600 Speaker 6: really difficult. But I mean that TCU one boy, and 668 00:38:06,640 --> 00:38:10,080 Speaker 6: that would be kind of the epitome of what we've 669 00:38:10,080 --> 00:38:12,560 Speaker 6: gone through the last five years. Right, they win these two, 670 00:38:13,120 --> 00:38:16,239 Speaker 6: now everybody's got them in the next four out, the 671 00:38:16,239 --> 00:38:19,440 Speaker 6: first four out. Can they get this last win and 672 00:38:19,520 --> 00:38:22,320 Speaker 6: then pop goes the bubble? 673 00:38:24,760 --> 00:38:27,000 Speaker 2: Do you subscribe to the belief that they have a 674 00:38:27,120 --> 00:38:29,839 Speaker 2: chance if they win the next three, and then two 675 00:38:29,880 --> 00:38:30,720 Speaker 2: in Kansas City. 676 00:38:33,560 --> 00:38:35,920 Speaker 6: What I subscribe to, what you should subscribe to is 677 00:38:35,920 --> 00:38:39,560 Speaker 6: Bearcat Journal dot com. What I don't subscribe to MO 678 00:38:39,960 --> 00:38:43,560 Speaker 6: is that conference tournaments matter at all anymore. Yeah, I 679 00:38:43,640 --> 00:38:48,080 Speaker 6: just don't think the election committee good. 680 00:38:49,000 --> 00:38:50,839 Speaker 2: I was gonna say. I think if there's been one 681 00:38:50,880 --> 00:38:53,360 Speaker 2: takeaway about this entire process that I've had for the 682 00:38:53,440 --> 00:38:55,479 Speaker 2: last decade, it's exactly what you just said. 683 00:38:57,080 --> 00:38:59,600 Speaker 6: They don't matter at all. They don't care. Like especially 684 00:38:59,680 --> 00:39:04,120 Speaker 6: the last probably five years, there's been multiple cases of 685 00:39:04,719 --> 00:39:07,440 Speaker 6: if this team wins one or two in the conference tournament, 686 00:39:07,480 --> 00:39:10,160 Speaker 6: they're playing their way in, and then that team's on 687 00:39:10,360 --> 00:39:13,200 Speaker 6: like the next four out like they weren't even close. 688 00:39:13,840 --> 00:39:17,800 Speaker 6: So there's a million bits of evidence here showing us. 689 00:39:18,200 --> 00:39:21,839 Speaker 6: I mean, maybe it's like, you know, you beat Arizona 690 00:39:22,160 --> 00:39:27,239 Speaker 6: and Houston on your way to the Big twelve title game, 691 00:39:28,680 --> 00:39:34,600 Speaker 6: but those odds are not great. So if you're gonna 692 00:39:34,640 --> 00:39:37,239 Speaker 6: get it done, you gotta win these next three. Let 693 00:39:37,239 --> 00:39:40,320 Speaker 6: the chips fall where they may. I think they probably 694 00:39:40,360 --> 00:39:43,880 Speaker 6: have dug themselves a hall that's too deep. I do 695 00:39:43,960 --> 00:39:46,040 Speaker 6: think there was if they had won at Texas Tech. 696 00:39:46,080 --> 00:39:49,319 Speaker 6: I thought there was a path, yes, because that would 697 00:39:49,360 --> 00:39:53,520 Speaker 6: have been another top fifteen type road win that really 698 00:39:53,520 --> 00:39:58,560 Speaker 6: would have enhanced your resume. You know, beating BYU at 699 00:39:58,560 --> 00:40:01,759 Speaker 6: home is gonna help. But I don't think anybody's gonna 700 00:40:01,760 --> 00:40:04,319 Speaker 6: look at that and go, damn, that's that's a team 701 00:40:04,400 --> 00:40:08,120 Speaker 6: that we've got to put in. So I don't think 702 00:40:08,200 --> 00:40:13,799 Speaker 6: the tournament, the Big Twelve Tournament, helps any Maybe you 703 00:40:13,880 --> 00:40:16,319 Speaker 6: get right there to the cut line, if you go 704 00:40:16,400 --> 00:40:19,520 Speaker 6: three and oh to end the regular season, I just 705 00:40:19,600 --> 00:40:22,839 Speaker 6: don't think there's enough meat on the bone that's gonna 706 00:40:22,840 --> 00:40:24,840 Speaker 6: get them over that hurdle. 707 00:40:24,960 --> 00:40:29,440 Speaker 2: Right now, you and I talked last Thursday. The Bearcats 708 00:40:29,440 --> 00:40:31,640 Speaker 2: were in the middle of a three game winning streak 709 00:40:31,920 --> 00:40:35,439 Speaker 2: that had it felt like change the conversation about Wes 710 00:40:35,520 --> 00:40:39,759 Speaker 2: Miller's future. What did saturdays blowout win at Kansas do 711 00:40:39,880 --> 00:40:40,680 Speaker 2: for that conversation. 712 00:40:42,400 --> 00:40:46,719 Speaker 6: I mean it solidified some of the belief that there's 713 00:40:46,760 --> 00:40:51,040 Speaker 6: a chance he can play his way back into consideration 714 00:40:52,920 --> 00:40:56,440 Speaker 6: and rightfully so, like you know, you go to Kansas 715 00:40:56,440 --> 00:41:00,520 Speaker 6: to be Kansas by sixteen, fully healthy Kansas. Since Darreon 716 00:41:00,560 --> 00:41:05,640 Speaker 6: Peterson plays the entire game, you know, nothing fluky happened 717 00:41:05,880 --> 00:41:09,560 Speaker 6: in that game that that was just Cincinnati played better 718 00:41:09,600 --> 00:41:14,320 Speaker 6: than Kansas, you know, it certainly helps. I still think 719 00:41:16,040 --> 00:41:18,360 Speaker 6: it's going to be a really hard sell to the 720 00:41:18,400 --> 00:41:22,719 Speaker 6: fan base if they don't make the NCAA tournament. But 721 00:41:22,880 --> 00:41:27,360 Speaker 6: there are people that you know, they donate more to 722 00:41:27,520 --> 00:41:31,320 Speaker 6: U see than I'll make in a decade. Those people 723 00:41:31,360 --> 00:41:33,799 Speaker 6: have a lot of weight, and I think that there's 724 00:41:33,880 --> 00:41:37,200 Speaker 6: a portion of that group that really likes Wes Miller 725 00:41:38,080 --> 00:41:41,960 Speaker 6: and wants to see him succeed in this job. And 726 00:41:42,840 --> 00:41:45,080 Speaker 6: if they're ten and eight, you know, if they went 727 00:41:45,120 --> 00:41:47,680 Speaker 6: out and they still miss the tournament, but they're ten 728 00:41:47,680 --> 00:41:52,040 Speaker 6: and eight in the Big twelve, and you know, they 729 00:41:52,080 --> 00:41:55,520 Speaker 6: they prove kind of in Big twelve play that they 730 00:41:55,560 --> 00:41:59,520 Speaker 6: were legitimate. I there's there's you know, there's a decent 731 00:41:59,600 --> 00:42:01,480 Speaker 6: chance you see him back for your six. 732 00:42:02,960 --> 00:42:05,359 Speaker 2: Good stuff. As always, man, I will uh, I'll talk 733 00:42:05,360 --> 00:42:06,640 Speaker 2: to you in two weeks. Thanks so much. 734 00:42:08,480 --> 00:42:10,880 Speaker 6: Enjoy Arizona, though. 735 00:42:11,560 --> 00:42:15,239 Speaker 2: I most definitely will next Wednesday, four o'clock, ESPN fifteen thirty, 736 00:42:15,239 --> 00:42:16,160 Speaker 2: Cincinnati Sports Station. 737 00:42:16,440 --> 00:42:18,000 Speaker 3: Cincinnati Sports Station. 738 00:42:19,040 --> 00:42:21,200 Speaker 2: There you go, five minutes after four o'clock. This is 739 00:42:21,440 --> 00:42:23,359 Speaker 2: ESPN fifteen thirty on my legg or. By the way, 740 00:42:23,400 --> 00:42:25,160 Speaker 2: I can't even believe I have to like to make 741 00:42:25,200 --> 00:42:29,839 Speaker 2: this distinction, but I'm going to anyway based on an 742 00:42:29,880 --> 00:42:34,320 Speaker 2: email I got just a few minutes ago. I don't. 743 00:42:34,480 --> 00:42:38,160 Speaker 2: I don't actually think that Joe Royer should sue Brendan 744 00:42:38,239 --> 00:42:41,719 Speaker 2: Sorosby for not throwing him the football. See what we 745 00:42:41,719 --> 00:42:44,120 Speaker 2: were doing when we said that, is we were referencing 746 00:42:44,160 --> 00:42:46,360 Speaker 2: something that's happening right now in the news, which is 747 00:42:46,520 --> 00:42:50,840 Speaker 2: U see suing Brendan Soresby. And then you know, rolling 748 00:42:50,960 --> 00:42:55,120 Speaker 2: into the conversation the fact that Joe Royer, who has 749 00:42:55,360 --> 00:42:58,440 Speaker 2: a legitimate chance to play in the NFL, like is, 750 00:42:58,440 --> 00:43:00,279 Speaker 2: is going to be drafted. I would be stuck if 751 00:43:00,320 --> 00:43:04,560 Speaker 2: Joe Royer is not drafted. But his last season of college. 752 00:43:05,080 --> 00:43:08,000 Speaker 2: One of the storylines, even when the Bearcats were playing 753 00:43:08,040 --> 00:43:12,120 Speaker 2: well in September and October, was man like, everybody says, 754 00:43:12,160 --> 00:43:13,680 Speaker 2: this is one of the very best tight ends in 755 00:43:13,719 --> 00:43:16,279 Speaker 2: the country, but it feels like they never throw him 756 00:43:16,320 --> 00:43:20,080 Speaker 2: the football. And then is November unfolded, where you know 757 00:43:20,520 --> 00:43:23,759 Speaker 2: the offense wasn't as good. How many times if you're 758 00:43:23,760 --> 00:43:25,920 Speaker 2: a Bearcat fan, did you go, man, why aren't they 759 00:43:25,920 --> 00:43:29,360 Speaker 2: throwing Joe Royer the football? Joe Royer, I don't believe 760 00:43:29,600 --> 00:43:34,080 Speaker 2: NFL people will hold that against him. At least smart 761 00:43:34,239 --> 00:43:37,440 Speaker 2: NFL people won't hold that against him. But I do 762 00:43:37,480 --> 00:43:41,160 Speaker 2: think when it comes to stuff like postseason Big twelve accolades, etc. 763 00:43:42,960 --> 00:43:45,560 Speaker 2: It hurt him. I don't actually believe that Joe Royer 764 00:43:45,680 --> 00:43:48,319 Speaker 2: is going to sue Brendan Sorosby. I cannot believe I've 765 00:43:48,320 --> 00:43:52,120 Speaker 2: gotten two emails about this since two forty five this afternoon. No, 766 00:43:53,320 --> 00:43:57,280 Speaker 2: it's it's lightheartedness. It's fun might not have been funny 767 00:43:57,719 --> 00:44:01,000 Speaker 2: first to admit the things that come out of my 768 00:44:01,000 --> 00:44:06,160 Speaker 2: mouth and aren't that funny, but haha, laugh, lighting up. 769 00:44:06,239 --> 00:44:09,000 Speaker 2: Thank you Reds for playing the Padres today. The game 770 00:44:09,080 --> 00:44:10,960 Speaker 2: is in Goodyear. Top of the fourth inning, it is 771 00:44:11,239 --> 00:44:15,520 Speaker 2: tied at three. Cincinnati got three in the bottom of 772 00:44:16,080 --> 00:44:19,839 Speaker 2: the second inning. Chase Burns started for Cincinnati, and we'll 773 00:44:19,840 --> 00:44:22,840 Speaker 2: tell you how he did in just a second. The 774 00:44:22,920 --> 00:44:26,920 Speaker 2: Reds got their runs because Will Banfield drove in all 775 00:44:26,920 --> 00:44:29,480 Speaker 2: three with a basis clearing double. Chase Burns two and 776 00:44:29,520 --> 00:44:33,919 Speaker 2: a third gave up two hits, struck out five, walk two, 777 00:44:34,760 --> 00:44:38,040 Speaker 2: and currently on the mound for Cincinnati is Chase Benny. 778 00:44:38,160 --> 00:44:40,080 Speaker 2: After Nick Sando gave up a couple of runs. Three 779 00:44:40,120 --> 00:44:43,200 Speaker 2: to three. Top three Reds are the home team today 780 00:44:43,800 --> 00:44:45,640 Speaker 2: in goodyear. Remember a couple of weeks ago we found 781 00:44:45,680 --> 00:44:49,799 Speaker 2: out that the NFLPA was told by a judge that 782 00:44:49,880 --> 00:44:54,920 Speaker 2: you can't publicize your report cards. So every year, for 783 00:44:55,040 --> 00:44:59,560 Speaker 2: like four years now, the NFL surveys it's players, every 784 00:44:59,600 --> 00:45:02,400 Speaker 2: player who's been on an active roster during a season. 785 00:45:02,520 --> 00:45:06,680 Speaker 2: Some choose to participate, some choose not to participate, but 786 00:45:06,800 --> 00:45:10,000 Speaker 2: they conduct surveys of all their players. So this year 787 00:45:11,880 --> 00:45:15,919 Speaker 2: the survey got responses from over seventeen hundred players. All 788 00:45:16,000 --> 00:45:18,640 Speaker 2: players who were on a twenty twenty five roster at 789 00:45:18,640 --> 00:45:21,400 Speaker 2: the time of the survey were eligible to participate. The 790 00:45:21,440 --> 00:45:27,040 Speaker 2: survey this year was conducted from November two to December eleventh. Now, 791 00:45:27,080 --> 00:45:30,160 Speaker 2: a court, federal court said about a month ago that 792 00:45:30,239 --> 00:45:36,520 Speaker 2: the NFLPA is not allowed to release officially release these grades. 793 00:45:37,840 --> 00:45:42,840 Speaker 2: Owners filed a grievance, and the owners won their grievance, 794 00:45:44,400 --> 00:45:48,360 Speaker 2: so it was an arbor. It wasn't a federal judge. 795 00:45:48,360 --> 00:45:52,759 Speaker 2: An arbiter ruled that you can't release the grades, but 796 00:45:53,719 --> 00:45:58,439 Speaker 2: ambitious and industrious reporters are certainly free to hunt them down. 797 00:45:59,320 --> 00:46:02,440 Speaker 2: And I think what most of us concluded was the 798 00:46:02,560 --> 00:46:06,719 Speaker 2: NFLPA may not officially release the grades, but we're gonna 799 00:46:06,760 --> 00:46:09,879 Speaker 2: find out what they are anyway, because someone's gonna lead 800 00:46:09,920 --> 00:46:13,960 Speaker 2: them to a reporter. Well, Uh, Kaylan Kaylor And if 801 00:46:14,000 --> 00:46:17,399 Speaker 2: I am mispronouncing Kaylin's last name, my apologies. It's either 802 00:46:17,480 --> 00:46:22,879 Speaker 2: Kaylan Kaylor or Kaylen Koller. She has obtained the NFLPA 803 00:46:23,000 --> 00:46:27,520 Speaker 2: report card. Miami ranks number one for the third year 804 00:46:27,520 --> 00:46:32,239 Speaker 2: in a row. I'm gonna read for you, and I 805 00:46:32,440 --> 00:46:37,799 Speaker 2: haven't seen the entire survey results, so I cannot tell 806 00:46:37,840 --> 00:46:41,520 Speaker 2: you where the Bengals rank. But I'm gonna read something 807 00:46:41,520 --> 00:46:43,239 Speaker 2: for you here, ok And I want you to tell 808 00:46:43,239 --> 00:46:45,960 Speaker 2: me which NFL team I am more likely to be 809 00:46:46,040 --> 00:46:50,120 Speaker 2: talking about. Okay, Uh, let's see. Let's see. Let's see. 810 00:46:50,960 --> 00:46:56,920 Speaker 2: Scrolling through the story right here at ESPN dot com, 811 00:46:58,880 --> 00:47:02,760 Speaker 2: this particular team receive low grades in several categories. According 812 00:47:02,760 --> 00:47:06,600 Speaker 2: to the results obtained by ESPN. I'm leaving out the 813 00:47:06,640 --> 00:47:10,880 Speaker 2: name of the team. This owner ranks last in the 814 00:47:10,920 --> 00:47:15,160 Speaker 2: league for willingness to invest in facilities, a trend reflected 815 00:47:15,200 --> 00:47:19,319 Speaker 2: in this team's poor facility ratings across the board. In 816 00:47:19,360 --> 00:47:22,200 Speaker 2: a new category added this year, this team had the 817 00:47:22,239 --> 00:47:25,240 Speaker 2: lowest rated home field in the league by a wide margin. 818 00:47:26,239 --> 00:47:29,600 Speaker 2: Players cite the inadequate maintenance and excessive war from hosting 819 00:47:30,239 --> 00:47:34,120 Speaker 2: other events. Players across the league note the poor condition 820 00:47:34,239 --> 00:47:36,880 Speaker 2: of the field and emphasized the need for investment to 821 00:47:36,920 --> 00:47:40,120 Speaker 2: bring it up to standard. This team's locker room graded 822 00:47:40,160 --> 00:47:45,680 Speaker 2: an F this team, according to players. They report that 823 00:47:45,719 --> 00:47:50,440 Speaker 2: this team's training room lacks updated recovery technology and modalities. 824 00:47:51,280 --> 00:47:57,160 Speaker 2: This team strength coaches ranked last in the NFL. Says 825 00:47:57,239 --> 00:47:59,560 Speaker 2: this team quote, we are not going to comment on 826 00:47:59,680 --> 00:48:02,600 Speaker 2: a report that we have not seen in its entirety. Now, 827 00:48:03,120 --> 00:48:06,239 Speaker 2: who does that sound like? Who does that sound like? 828 00:48:08,360 --> 00:48:10,640 Speaker 2: You might be going, Wait a minute, that kind of 829 00:48:10,640 --> 00:48:12,880 Speaker 2: sounds like the Bengals. Oh, though they don't have a 830 00:48:12,960 --> 00:48:15,680 Speaker 2: ton of events at their stadium and the field's not 831 00:48:15,760 --> 00:48:18,040 Speaker 2: real grass, so the field can't be that bad. But 832 00:48:18,200 --> 00:48:24,000 Speaker 2: like outdated facilities, poor conditions, bad locker room. By the way, 833 00:48:24,080 --> 00:48:27,200 Speaker 2: this team only five bathroom stalls for the entire team. 834 00:48:27,680 --> 00:48:31,959 Speaker 2: Training room lacks what it needs. He might be going, 835 00:48:32,000 --> 00:48:36,520 Speaker 2: that kind of sounds like the Bengals. It's the Pittsburgh Steelers. 836 00:48:40,320 --> 00:48:44,960 Speaker 2: The Pittsburgh Steelers finished in last place for the first 837 00:48:44,960 --> 00:48:48,200 Speaker 2: time in the four year history of this survey. Last 838 00:48:48,239 --> 00:48:52,440 Speaker 2: place last year Pittsburgh was twenty eighth. Cardinals finished thirty 839 00:48:52,480 --> 00:48:55,480 Speaker 2: first after a last place finished last year. The Browns 840 00:48:55,480 --> 00:48:58,480 Speaker 2: finished in thirtieth, same as twenty twenty five. Again, I'm 841 00:48:58,480 --> 00:49:02,960 Speaker 2: reading from kaylin ko story ESPN, and she doesn't have 842 00:49:03,040 --> 00:49:06,080 Speaker 2: the full list of all the great so I can't 843 00:49:06,080 --> 00:49:08,800 Speaker 2: tell you where the Bengals are. The Bengals may rank poorly. 844 00:49:08,880 --> 00:49:12,279 Speaker 2: I don't know if you remember last year they got 845 00:49:12,320 --> 00:49:15,560 Speaker 2: mocked for finishing pretty low. I believe as it relates 846 00:49:15,600 --> 00:49:19,920 Speaker 2: to like treatment of families, that sort of stuff. But 847 00:49:20,000 --> 00:49:22,160 Speaker 2: I was thinking about this as I was reading back 848 00:49:22,440 --> 00:49:25,640 Speaker 2: toward the end of the season. The Steelers lose in 849 00:49:25,680 --> 00:49:31,000 Speaker 2: the postseason again and Mike Tomlin leaves, and it sort 850 00:49:31,000 --> 00:49:32,880 Speaker 2: of felt like it was time. I made the comment 851 00:49:32,920 --> 00:49:36,400 Speaker 2: that I feel like there are more similarities between the 852 00:49:36,440 --> 00:49:39,960 Speaker 2: Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers than many would care to 853 00:49:40,040 --> 00:49:43,040 Speaker 2: realize or care to admit. And the reason I say 854 00:49:43,080 --> 00:49:47,040 Speaker 2: that is I'm not around the Pittsburgh Steelers. But you 855 00:49:47,120 --> 00:49:49,920 Speaker 2: listen to people who cover Pittsburgh football, you listen to 856 00:49:49,920 --> 00:49:52,759 Speaker 2: people who do sports talk radio in Pittsburgh, you hear 857 00:49:52,840 --> 00:49:57,360 Speaker 2: Pittsburgh Steelers fans, you understand things about that franchise, a 858 00:49:57,400 --> 00:50:00,080 Speaker 2: lot of the same things that people have said about 859 00:50:00,080 --> 00:50:02,960 Speaker 2: the Bengals for years. You know, mom and pop ownership, 860 00:50:03,600 --> 00:50:09,799 Speaker 2: local family run business. The facilities are outmoded, they're kind 861 00:50:09,840 --> 00:50:12,840 Speaker 2: of cheap, they're sort of stubborn and said in their ways, 862 00:50:13,200 --> 00:50:16,480 Speaker 2: there's an unwillingness or inability to kind of get with 863 00:50:16,520 --> 00:50:19,600 Speaker 2: the times. These are all things that have for years 864 00:50:19,680 --> 00:50:24,319 Speaker 2: been said about the Bengals, and sometimes very accurately. They're 865 00:50:24,360 --> 00:50:28,680 Speaker 2: actually often said about the Pittsburgh Steelers. And it's interesting 866 00:50:28,719 --> 00:50:31,439 Speaker 2: to me for two reasons. One is Pittsburgh has always 867 00:50:31,520 --> 00:50:34,440 Speaker 2: kind of looked up as a barometer, a franchise that 868 00:50:34,480 --> 00:50:36,960 Speaker 2: you should aspire to be like. And there's no questioning 869 00:50:36,960 --> 00:50:40,600 Speaker 2: their stability. That franchise hasn't had a losing season in forever. 870 00:50:40,920 --> 00:50:44,200 Speaker 2: They obviously have Super Bowls in their history, although it's 871 00:50:44,239 --> 00:50:47,239 Speaker 2: a more and more distant history with every passing year. 872 00:50:48,000 --> 00:50:50,480 Speaker 2: But the Steelers are often held up as a franchise 873 00:50:50,560 --> 00:50:53,600 Speaker 2: that everybody, especially in this part of the country, should 874 00:50:53,640 --> 00:50:57,920 Speaker 2: be aspiring to be number one. There's been a profound 875 00:50:58,000 --> 00:51:02,640 Speaker 2: lack of postseason success. Two, some of the same criticisms 876 00:51:02,719 --> 00:51:04,680 Speaker 2: you often hear about the Bengals have been applied to 877 00:51:04,760 --> 00:51:07,959 Speaker 2: the Pittsburgh Steelers. Number two, The second thing that makes 878 00:51:08,000 --> 00:51:12,080 Speaker 2: this interesting to me is I'm far from the first 879 00:51:12,160 --> 00:51:14,399 Speaker 2: person that you'll ever hear who complains about the way 880 00:51:14,440 --> 00:51:17,000 Speaker 2: the Bengals are talked about nationally. In fact, I'm gonna 881 00:51:17,000 --> 00:51:19,680 Speaker 2: have audio for you later on where one one of 882 00:51:19,680 --> 00:51:21,560 Speaker 2: those dudes on one of those cable shows where they 883 00:51:21,600 --> 00:51:24,520 Speaker 2: scream about sports talks about how the Bengals aren't a 884 00:51:24,640 --> 00:51:27,319 Speaker 2: very good team, and he's not necessarily wrong. We'll have 885 00:51:27,360 --> 00:51:30,520 Speaker 2: that in the five o'clock hour. But it is interesting 886 00:51:31,280 --> 00:51:34,560 Speaker 2: that the Bengals are often a punchline whenever things like 887 00:51:34,640 --> 00:51:36,600 Speaker 2: this come up, because people love to talk about their 888 00:51:36,640 --> 00:51:39,600 Speaker 2: frugality and people love to talk about how outdated the 889 00:51:39,640 --> 00:51:43,200 Speaker 2: Bengals are. I wonder if the Pittsburgh Steelers this go 890 00:51:43,320 --> 00:51:48,440 Speaker 2: around will get treated similarly because they are the Steelers. 891 00:51:48,680 --> 00:51:52,959 Speaker 2: It is the Rooney family. There's a certain brand there 892 00:51:53,080 --> 00:51:54,800 Speaker 2: that you know, by the way, the way the Pittsburgh 893 00:51:54,800 --> 00:51:57,560 Speaker 2: Steelers have played in recent years hasn't necessarily fit the brand. 894 00:51:57,600 --> 00:51:59,880 Speaker 2: I'm not doing this to pick on the Pittsburgh Steelers. 895 00:52:00,120 --> 00:52:02,400 Speaker 2: I have no incentive to pick on the Pittsburgh Steelers. 896 00:52:02,600 --> 00:52:05,240 Speaker 2: I'm guessing you right now could not really care less 897 00:52:05,440 --> 00:52:08,400 Speaker 2: about the Pittsburgh Steelers. But you and I both probably 898 00:52:08,440 --> 00:52:10,760 Speaker 2: agree that the way the two franchises are talked about 899 00:52:10,920 --> 00:52:14,759 Speaker 2: completely different, even though there's actually more similarities between the 900 00:52:14,800 --> 00:52:19,160 Speaker 2: two than some might be willing to admit. Like if 901 00:52:19,160 --> 00:52:23,279 Speaker 2: the Bengals finish dead last in this survey, which I 902 00:52:23,280 --> 00:52:26,200 Speaker 2: don't believe they ever have, and I'm not here to 903 00:52:26,239 --> 00:52:28,680 Speaker 2: tell you the Bengals are a perfect organization or run 904 00:52:28,719 --> 00:52:31,000 Speaker 2: to perfection or anything like that, But if the Bengals 905 00:52:31,200 --> 00:52:36,239 Speaker 2: finish dead last, I would be willing to met we 906 00:52:36,360 --> 00:52:39,480 Speaker 2: would be hearing about it from folks here and around 907 00:52:39,480 --> 00:52:43,839 Speaker 2: the country. Will we be hearing about it from people 908 00:52:43,840 --> 00:52:47,759 Speaker 2: around the country when it comes to the vaunted venerable 909 00:52:48,160 --> 00:52:53,239 Speaker 2: Pittsburgh Steelers, Like if I read those quotes and I 910 00:52:53,320 --> 00:52:55,480 Speaker 2: leave out the name of the franchise and you know 911 00:52:55,640 --> 00:52:58,759 Speaker 2: nothing about either the Bengals or the Steelers, you would 912 00:52:58,880 --> 00:53:04,080 Speaker 2: probably assume I'm talking talking about Cincinnati, it's talking about Pittsburgh. 913 00:53:04,600 --> 00:53:07,839 Speaker 2: So I bring this up a it's kind of fun 914 00:53:07,840 --> 00:53:11,560 Speaker 2: to punch away at the Steelers. B I think I'm 915 00:53:11,600 --> 00:53:15,520 Speaker 2: right about this. There are more similarities between those two franchises. 916 00:53:15,560 --> 00:53:18,319 Speaker 2: I'm not talking about their history, not talking about what 917 00:53:18,360 --> 00:53:21,040 Speaker 2: they were in the seventies or the nineties, or not 918 00:53:21,080 --> 00:53:23,840 Speaker 2: talking about Super Bowls that were won two decades ago, 919 00:53:24,520 --> 00:53:28,719 Speaker 2: talking about the way they've been run recently. There are 920 00:53:28,760 --> 00:53:31,840 Speaker 2: more similarities between those two franchises than one might be 921 00:53:33,160 --> 00:53:38,080 Speaker 2: even willing to realize or certainly willing to admit. And 922 00:53:38,200 --> 00:53:40,520 Speaker 2: I do think it will be fascinating to see if 923 00:53:40,520 --> 00:53:43,120 Speaker 2: the Steelers get the level of criticism the Bengals would 924 00:53:43,160 --> 00:53:46,200 Speaker 2: have gotten had they finished dead last in this survey. 925 00:53:46,280 --> 00:53:48,680 Speaker 2: By the way, Bengals may have done very poorly in 926 00:53:48,719 --> 00:53:51,520 Speaker 2: the survey, I don't know. But the headline is about 927 00:53:51,520 --> 00:53:53,640 Speaker 2: the Pittsburgh Steelers, and then I'm sure the rest of 928 00:53:53,640 --> 00:53:57,080 Speaker 2: the results will be released, assuming the journalist here has them. 929 00:53:58,160 --> 00:54:01,560 Speaker 2: But what I'm reading about the Steelers, what players have 930 00:54:02,280 --> 00:54:06,600 Speaker 2: had to say about facilities and things of that nature, 931 00:54:07,640 --> 00:54:10,080 Speaker 2: they read an awful lot like things we've read about 932 00:54:10,080 --> 00:54:12,319 Speaker 2: the Bengals in the past. When we've read them about 933 00:54:12,320 --> 00:54:16,080 Speaker 2: the Bengals in the past, they get crushed. Well, the 934 00:54:16,120 --> 00:54:20,520 Speaker 2: Steelers get crushed seventeen after four. Sam Bruckhaus is going 935 00:54:20,560 --> 00:54:23,279 Speaker 2: to join the Summer Sports dot Com from the combine. 936 00:54:23,400 --> 00:54:27,040 Speaker 2: We'll ask him about Reuben Bain's arm length. He's got 937 00:54:27,120 --> 00:54:30,200 Speaker 2: historically short arms. Should it matter? Sam will tell us 938 00:54:30,480 --> 00:54:33,680 Speaker 2: coming up in just about fifteen minutes on ESPN fifteen 939 00:54:33,719 --> 00:54:35,080 Speaker 2: thirty Cincinnati Sports. 940 00:54:34,800 --> 00:54:38,760 Speaker 3: Station Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty. 941 00:54:39,760 --> 00:54:43,640 Speaker 4: Traffic from the UC Health Traffic Center at u See Health. 942 00:54:43,680 --> 00:54:46,200 Speaker 4: They never miss a beat. This is the one time 963 00:55:52,600 --> 00:55:54,919 Speaker 2: of year where the three of us get a chance 964 00:55:54,960 --> 00:55:57,160 Speaker 2: to broadcast together. We are on from noon to three. 965 00:55:57,239 --> 00:55:59,160 Speaker 2: The game is at four to ten blocking a bridge 966 00:55:59,160 --> 00:56:02,840 Speaker 2: away from the ballpark, and it's gonna be an absolute blast. 967 00:56:02,840 --> 00:56:04,920 Speaker 2: The folks that Smoke Justice are so good to us. 968 00:56:05,360 --> 00:56:09,120 Speaker 2: It is a great venue. Can't wait for opening day. By the way, 1014 00:58:42,920 --> 00:58:45,640 Speaker 2: rad Speaking of Opening Day, Reds are playing today in 1015 00:58:45,680 --> 00:58:48,320 Speaker 2: a goodyear. Top of the fifth inning, three all against 1016 00:58:48,320 --> 00:58:52,480 Speaker 2: the San Diego Padres. Chase Burns made his second start 1017 00:58:52,480 --> 00:58:57,120 Speaker 2: of the spring for Cincinnati and it went okay ish, 1018 00:58:57,320 --> 00:59:00,640 Speaker 2: I guess, wild pitch, couple of hits, two walks on 1019 00:59:00,680 --> 00:59:03,320 Speaker 2: the bad side the good side, just one run, and 1020 00:59:03,600 --> 00:59:06,880 Speaker 2: struck out five. More on that coming up here in 1021 00:59:07,160 --> 00:59:09,720 Speaker 2: uh in just a bit. I'm not here to take 1022 00:59:09,800 --> 00:59:12,480 Speaker 2: up for the Bengals. When the Bengals deserve criticism, I 1023 00:59:12,600 --> 00:59:15,200 Speaker 2: give it to you. I just I feel like sometimes 1024 00:59:15,240 --> 00:59:18,200 Speaker 2: what they do gets framed in a way that at 1025 00:59:18,280 --> 00:59:24,080 Speaker 2: times is unfair. At times it's unfair, you know, when 1026 00:59:24,880 --> 00:59:29,240 Speaker 2: when they don't retain a player, it's they're being cheap. 1027 00:59:30,160 --> 00:59:33,200 Speaker 2: And I'm not sure it's always frugality, right. They've They've 1028 00:59:33,200 --> 00:59:35,200 Speaker 2: paid a lot of guys a lot of money. They've 1029 00:59:35,200 --> 00:59:38,160 Speaker 2: paid a lot of players very good, fair market deals. 1030 00:59:38,560 --> 00:59:40,920 Speaker 2: AJ Green at one point, for about five minutes, was 1031 00:59:40,960 --> 00:59:44,120 Speaker 2: the highest paid player at his position. Geno Atkins was two. 1032 00:59:44,480 --> 00:59:48,800 Speaker 2: DJ Reeder was the highest paid interior defensive lineman free 1033 00:59:48,800 --> 00:59:52,080 Speaker 2: agent signee of all time. Joe Burrow, for about two minutes, 1034 00:59:52,200 --> 00:59:54,840 Speaker 2: was the highest paid player in the league. Jamar Chase 1035 00:59:54,920 --> 00:59:57,440 Speaker 2: was the highest paid non quarterback in the league. Do 1036 00:59:57,480 --> 01:00:00,680 Speaker 2: they make some bad decisions? Yes, Do they make some 1037 01:00:00,800 --> 01:00:03,560 Speaker 2: decisions that have just had a huge ripple effect that 1038 01:00:03,560 --> 01:00:05,920 Speaker 2: they haven't been able to stop. Yes, But I just 1039 01:00:06,000 --> 01:00:08,560 Speaker 2: I feel like whenever the Bengals go in the wrong 1040 01:00:08,600 --> 01:00:11,479 Speaker 2: direction or don't get it right, it just it gets 1041 01:00:11,520 --> 01:00:16,080 Speaker 2: pinned as something that it's not outdated, outmoded, stubborn, frugal. 1042 01:00:17,280 --> 01:00:19,640 Speaker 2: A lot of those same criticisms seem to apply to 1043 01:00:19,640 --> 01:00:22,920 Speaker 2: the Pittsburgh Steelers, and now their own players are telling 1044 01:00:22,920 --> 01:00:26,120 Speaker 2: you as much. We'll see how it gets talked about. 1045 01:00:26,840 --> 01:00:29,520 Speaker 2: We'll see how it gets talked about. Your phone calls 1046 01:00:29,560 --> 01:00:31,600 Speaker 2: are coming up here in just a bit five point three, seven, 1047 01:00:31,640 --> 01:00:34,240 Speaker 2: four nine, fifteen thirty adjustin five of the Cyclones is 1048 01:00:34,280 --> 01:00:38,120 Speaker 2: set to become the franchisees all time leader in points. 1049 01:00:38,160 --> 01:00:39,800 Speaker 2: He is going to join us at five twenty. Sam, what's going on? 1070 01:01:47,600 --> 01:01:50,400 Speaker 5: Hey, I'm here at the Combine, And honestly, this is 1071 01:01:50,440 --> 01:01:52,320 Speaker 5: my favorite event in the year. And the reason why 1072 01:01:52,360 --> 01:01:54,560 Speaker 5: is because as a data scientist, it's my job to 1073 01:01:54,600 --> 01:01:57,200 Speaker 5: gather data points and I'm able to get so many 1074 01:01:57,200 --> 01:02:02,280 Speaker 5: good data points from analysts and agents and team guys 1075 01:02:02,400 --> 01:02:04,560 Speaker 5: and et cetera, et cetera on this draft class. 1076 01:02:04,560 --> 01:02:05,680 Speaker 9: I'm happy to talk about here. 1077 01:02:06,960 --> 01:02:09,640 Speaker 2: How much should I care about ruben Bain's arm size? 1078 01:02:12,040 --> 01:02:14,680 Speaker 5: So look, I mean there's like broad what I call 1079 01:02:14,720 --> 01:02:18,080 Speaker 5: broadcast stats, like the first time since X and something 1080 01:02:18,120 --> 01:02:21,400 Speaker 5: since why, Like I believe the statistic that's floating around 1081 01:02:21,520 --> 01:02:22,120 Speaker 5: is that a. 1082 01:02:22,080 --> 01:02:25,720 Speaker 9: Player with the arm length or below that arm lest. 1083 01:02:25,880 --> 01:02:30,120 Speaker 5: Has not seen a ten ten stacked season in like 1084 01:02:30,160 --> 01:02:33,040 Speaker 5: twenty years or something like that. That being said, you 1085 01:02:33,040 --> 01:02:35,640 Speaker 5: look at his wingspan, it's actually not that bad. And 1086 01:02:35,680 --> 01:02:37,680 Speaker 5: you try to consider what ruben Bain did and it 1087 01:02:37,680 --> 01:02:39,640 Speaker 5: reminds me a lot of the Will Campbell stuff from 1088 01:02:39,720 --> 01:02:44,280 Speaker 5: last year. And realistically, we're hard on Will Campbell because 1089 01:02:44,320 --> 01:02:46,560 Speaker 5: of his performance in the Super Bowl, But who doesn't. 1090 01:02:46,280 --> 01:02:49,080 Speaker 9: Look bad when Mike McDonald is scheming up against you? 1091 01:02:49,240 --> 01:02:53,240 Speaker 5: And also Drake May himself is a high sack player 1092 01:02:54,200 --> 01:02:56,320 Speaker 5: and sometimes invites pressure by moving. 1093 01:02:56,160 --> 01:02:57,880 Speaker 9: Up in the pocket and dropping deep. 1094 01:02:58,040 --> 01:02:59,680 Speaker 12: So there are elements of Will Campbell. 1095 01:02:59,680 --> 01:03:01,960 Speaker 5: But I guarantee you if you go ask Mike Brabil 1096 01:03:02,160 --> 01:03:04,320 Speaker 5: if he could have gotten quality start after quality start 1097 01:03:04,360 --> 01:03:06,280 Speaker 5: out of Will Campbell, like he did for the majority 1098 01:03:06,280 --> 01:03:07,800 Speaker 5: of this year. If he would still take him at three, 1099 01:03:07,880 --> 01:03:10,360 Speaker 5: he would. And so I think there are certain players 1100 01:03:10,360 --> 01:03:13,240 Speaker 5: that you just have to make you have to make 1101 01:03:13,400 --> 01:03:16,120 Speaker 5: exceptions for, and in my opinion, that is Ruben Bain 1102 01:03:16,160 --> 01:03:19,080 Speaker 5: because we see multiple blue chip analytical traits from him, 1103 01:03:19,520 --> 01:03:22,400 Speaker 5: and typically that means that you're a pretty good prospect. 1104 01:03:22,440 --> 01:03:22,880 Speaker 12: So if the. 1105 01:03:23,000 --> 01:03:26,479 Speaker 5: Arms aren't as long as they need to be, Bain 1106 01:03:26,560 --> 01:03:31,200 Speaker 5: has clearly figured it out, operated around it, and succeeded 1107 01:03:31,200 --> 01:03:31,440 Speaker 5: at the. 1108 01:03:32,960 --> 01:03:35,840 Speaker 9: Power flove level. And so I think given. 1109 01:03:35,600 --> 01:03:38,000 Speaker 5: That production profile, which is up there with the likes 1110 01:03:38,000 --> 01:03:41,640 Speaker 5: of Aiden Hutchinson and others, I do think he's a 1111 01:03:41,760 --> 01:03:43,560 Speaker 5: top tier blue chip player in this draft. 1112 01:03:44,800 --> 01:03:48,080 Speaker 2: You love data, and this week you can swim in 1113 01:03:48,240 --> 01:03:50,760 Speaker 2: all the data coming out of the combine. What data 1114 01:03:50,800 --> 01:03:52,800 Speaker 2: this week should I be paying attention to the most? 1115 01:03:54,080 --> 01:03:56,200 Speaker 12: Yeah, the reality of the situation is. 1116 01:03:56,120 --> 01:03:59,280 Speaker 5: When you're looking at the actual athletic drills, which everyone 1117 01:03:59,400 --> 01:04:02,560 Speaker 5: is watching right now and everyone will be watching throughout 1118 01:04:02,560 --> 01:04:04,960 Speaker 5: the weekend. If I had to rank it out of 1119 01:04:05,040 --> 01:04:09,320 Speaker 5: ten how much I care, or rather how predictive it 1120 01:04:09,400 --> 01:04:11,320 Speaker 5: is of future performance. 1121 01:04:10,960 --> 01:04:13,720 Speaker 9: I'll rank it about a three of ten. Now, what 1122 01:04:13,760 --> 01:04:16,400 Speaker 9: does that mean, it means. It means it is enough. 1123 01:04:16,520 --> 01:04:19,480 Speaker 5: It's not a one or a zero. It's enough to 1124 01:04:19,560 --> 01:04:22,400 Speaker 5: care about. But it's certainly a part of the puzzle, 1125 01:04:22,440 --> 01:04:24,080 Speaker 5: and it's not a massive part of the puzzle. The 1126 01:04:24,080 --> 01:04:26,360 Speaker 5: way I like to describe it is if you are 1127 01:04:26,400 --> 01:04:29,240 Speaker 5: within a blue hip grade in a scouting system, which 1128 01:04:29,240 --> 01:04:31,360 Speaker 5: basically means you expect a player to be a Pro 1129 01:04:31,480 --> 01:04:34,800 Speaker 5: Bowl or an All Pro, or looking at some of 1130 01:04:34,800 --> 01:04:36,120 Speaker 5: the other grades, you think that you could be a. 1131 01:04:36,040 --> 01:04:37,680 Speaker 9: Starter or a backup or something like that. 1132 01:04:37,920 --> 01:04:41,040 Speaker 5: You may move someone with the exact same grade up 1133 01:04:41,080 --> 01:04:43,600 Speaker 5: a spot on your big board because of his forty 1134 01:04:43,680 --> 01:04:46,640 Speaker 5: yard dash if you're a defensive end, for example, or 1135 01:04:46,720 --> 01:04:51,560 Speaker 5: because of his short shuttle, if you're a if you're 1136 01:04:51,600 --> 01:04:54,440 Speaker 5: an interier offensive line, and maybe you'll do that, but 1137 01:04:54,560 --> 01:04:56,560 Speaker 5: in reality it's still a three out of ten. 1138 01:04:56,640 --> 01:04:57,800 Speaker 9: That's my true belief. 1139 01:04:57,880 --> 01:05:00,360 Speaker 5: That's what the correlations show, and I think that is 1140 01:05:00,400 --> 01:05:04,160 Speaker 5: what you got to look at during the combine. 1141 01:05:03,360 --> 01:05:07,840 Speaker 2: At which position can the combine best predict future success 1142 01:05:07,840 --> 01:05:08,480 Speaker 2: for these guys? 1143 01:05:09,800 --> 01:05:12,640 Speaker 5: Yeah, so if you're looking at the maximum, So if 1144 01:05:12,640 --> 01:05:14,440 Speaker 5: you're looking at the forty yard dash, what can I 1145 01:05:14,480 --> 01:05:17,840 Speaker 5: most clean from that? That's little inside linebacker position. Problem 1146 01:05:17,920 --> 01:05:20,120 Speaker 5: is most of the other drills are pretty useless for 1147 01:05:20,120 --> 01:05:23,040 Speaker 5: inside backers. So if you're looking on average, it's the 1148 01:05:23,080 --> 01:05:24,160 Speaker 5: offensive line, and. 1149 01:05:24,240 --> 01:05:26,320 Speaker 9: Boy are we happy that it's the offensive. 1150 01:05:25,920 --> 01:05:29,480 Speaker 5: Line, because it's difficult to find other data points that 1151 01:05:29,520 --> 01:05:33,000 Speaker 5: can really help us. Historically, I'm talking going back twenty 1152 01:05:33,040 --> 01:05:36,120 Speaker 5: thirty years. Historically, it's hard to find other data points 1153 01:05:36,400 --> 01:05:40,800 Speaker 5: that can compare and contrast offensive linemen. So it's about 1154 01:05:40,840 --> 01:05:45,760 Speaker 5: a two point seven across all of offensive line metrics 1155 01:05:45,800 --> 01:05:50,720 Speaker 5: and particularly tackles. The adage from the scouting community draft 1156 01:05:50,720 --> 01:05:53,440 Speaker 5: athletic tackles does not come from nowhere. It actually shows 1157 01:05:53,480 --> 01:05:55,680 Speaker 5: up in that historical combine day to going back twenty 1158 01:05:55,800 --> 01:05:59,000 Speaker 5: or thirty years, it shows that when you get can 1159 01:05:59,040 --> 01:06:01,479 Speaker 5: get fast tackles than you can get tackles that can move, 1160 01:06:01,720 --> 01:06:06,040 Speaker 5: as evidenced by the athletic tests, it actually means something 1161 01:06:06,080 --> 01:06:08,680 Speaker 5: good or it can nudge you up in the big board, 1162 01:06:09,320 --> 01:06:10,960 Speaker 5: and it can predict slightly. 1163 01:06:11,240 --> 01:06:12,520 Speaker 9: It can be a part of your. 1164 01:06:12,360 --> 01:06:14,800 Speaker 12: Prediction for your performance at the next level. 1165 01:06:15,960 --> 01:06:19,440 Speaker 2: Sim Brookhouse from Sumer Sports is with us. The combine 1166 01:06:19,480 --> 01:06:23,240 Speaker 2: in Indianapolis is happening right now. How often do you go, 1167 01:06:23,880 --> 01:06:25,160 Speaker 2: you know, you and I talked. You were at the 1168 01:06:25,200 --> 01:06:27,040 Speaker 2: Senior Bowl, right, So that's when you start to get 1169 01:06:27,080 --> 01:06:29,760 Speaker 2: a sense of you know, at which position is the 1170 01:06:29,800 --> 01:06:33,120 Speaker 2: class of players deep? At which position is there may 1171 01:06:33,160 --> 01:06:36,080 Speaker 2: be not as many high end prospects. How often do 1172 01:06:36,120 --> 01:06:39,040 Speaker 2: you go into the combine thinking one thing about players 1173 01:06:39,040 --> 01:06:41,720 Speaker 2: at a certain position or maybe a class as a whole, 1174 01:06:41,720 --> 01:06:43,480 Speaker 2: and then come out of it feeling a different way. 1175 01:06:44,720 --> 01:06:45,760 Speaker 9: It happens quite a bit. 1176 01:06:45,920 --> 01:06:48,160 Speaker 5: And again, like I'm a data scientist, I'm trying to 1177 01:06:48,160 --> 01:06:51,840 Speaker 5: figure out the consensus and prove or disprove the consensus 1178 01:06:51,840 --> 01:06:53,720 Speaker 5: because that's what the wisdom of the crowd is and 1179 01:06:53,760 --> 01:06:57,080 Speaker 5: that's how data is best used. So I was coming 1180 01:06:57,120 --> 01:06:59,280 Speaker 5: into the combine thinking that this was a really good 1181 01:06:59,280 --> 01:07:02,080 Speaker 5: defensive tackle class. And they're on the field right now 1182 01:07:02,160 --> 01:07:05,000 Speaker 5: in Indy as I speak to you right now, Guys 1183 01:07:05,040 --> 01:07:08,680 Speaker 5: like Caleb Banks, guy like guys like Lee Hunter. Uh, 1184 01:07:08,840 --> 01:07:11,920 Speaker 5: there's a big kind of uh Kayla McDonald. 1185 01:07:11,640 --> 01:07:12,880 Speaker 12: Out of Ohio State. 1186 01:07:12,880 --> 01:07:15,480 Speaker 9: There's a big number and a big name. 1187 01:07:15,680 --> 01:07:18,880 Speaker 5: List of defensive tackles that I had in my mind 1188 01:07:19,000 --> 01:07:21,560 Speaker 5: that indicated that this was a really good defensive tackle 1189 01:07:21,600 --> 01:07:24,600 Speaker 5: class and people could find a position that it's rising 1190 01:07:24,960 --> 01:07:28,840 Speaker 5: in its premiership due to you know, the success of 1191 01:07:28,840 --> 01:07:31,720 Speaker 5: the Mike McDonald defense and the and the big Fangio 1192 01:07:31,840 --> 01:07:33,920 Speaker 5: defenses that like to drop a lot of guys back 1193 01:07:34,200 --> 01:07:37,000 Speaker 5: and utilize the defensive tackles to stuff to run on first. 1194 01:07:36,760 --> 01:07:37,480 Speaker 9: And second down. 1195 01:07:38,480 --> 01:07:41,800 Speaker 5: I don't necessarily think that is the consensus case anymore, 1196 01:07:41,800 --> 01:07:43,880 Speaker 5: and I'm interested to dive deeper into data to try 1197 01:07:43,880 --> 01:07:47,040 Speaker 5: to prove or disprove that. I was noticing that guys 1198 01:07:47,080 --> 01:07:50,160 Speaker 5: like Lee Hunter, for example, did not have great data profiles. 1199 01:07:50,480 --> 01:07:52,680 Speaker 5: But what I've kind of learned coming in and talking 1200 01:07:52,680 --> 01:07:55,560 Speaker 5: to multiple analysts and seeing their data and comparing it 1201 01:07:55,600 --> 01:07:58,160 Speaker 5: to what we have, or maybe it's some new pieces 1202 01:07:58,160 --> 01:08:01,000 Speaker 5: of data that some people thought to look into, it 1203 01:08:01,080 --> 01:08:04,080 Speaker 5: seems that this this could be a really good defensive 1204 01:08:04,120 --> 01:08:07,640 Speaker 5: tackle class, and it's a deep class. However, there's probably 1205 01:08:07,680 --> 01:08:11,640 Speaker 5: not any top fifteen level players, which means probably not 1206 01:08:11,720 --> 01:08:14,400 Speaker 5: any defensive tackles that will end up being all pros 1207 01:08:14,480 --> 01:08:17,880 Speaker 5: on average based on their prospect profile in this draft 1208 01:08:17,920 --> 01:08:18,280 Speaker 5: at all. 1209 01:08:18,760 --> 01:08:20,560 Speaker 9: And so what does that mean. There's gonna be a 1210 01:08:20,600 --> 01:08:21,520 Speaker 9: lot of teams. 1211 01:08:21,240 --> 01:08:23,840 Speaker 5: That really struggle the stuff to run that are going 1212 01:08:23,880 --> 01:08:26,800 Speaker 5: to be lacking and betting that some of these guys 1213 01:08:26,800 --> 01:08:29,400 Speaker 5: that don't have as good of a profile can work 1214 01:08:29,400 --> 01:08:31,960 Speaker 5: out for them. That was a radically different thing than 1215 01:08:32,000 --> 01:08:33,920 Speaker 5: I thought was going to be the case coming in. 1216 01:08:34,280 --> 01:08:35,400 Speaker 9: And now that I've kind of. 1217 01:08:35,560 --> 01:08:38,280 Speaker 5: Seen the consensus and seen what the film guys think, 1218 01:08:38,520 --> 01:08:38,960 Speaker 5: I'm going to. 1219 01:08:39,040 --> 01:08:40,840 Speaker 9: Keep digging into this in the next couple of weeks. 1220 01:08:40,840 --> 01:08:43,080 Speaker 5: Hopefully we'll have an answer by the time we get 1221 01:08:43,080 --> 01:08:45,920 Speaker 5: to the Pro Days. But that was definitely something shocking 1222 01:08:45,960 --> 01:08:49,200 Speaker 5: to me and kind of changed my hypothesis about what 1223 01:08:49,320 --> 01:08:51,479 Speaker 5: this draft should be. And I'm getting ready to test 1224 01:08:51,479 --> 01:08:52,519 Speaker 5: that hypothesis once. 1225 01:08:52,400 --> 01:08:55,080 Speaker 2: I leave Indy. You know, I don't have many folks 1226 01:08:55,160 --> 01:08:58,120 Speaker 2: on this show who use the word hypothesis, which is 1227 01:08:58,120 --> 01:09:00,679 Speaker 2: why we call you, Sam. Let me ask you about downs. 1228 01:09:01,320 --> 01:09:05,640 Speaker 2: So when you just watch him on tape, and I've 1229 01:09:05,760 --> 01:09:08,120 Speaker 2: watched really smart people kind of point out some of 1230 01:09:08,120 --> 01:09:11,320 Speaker 2: the things he can do, it's I mean, you walk 1231 01:09:11,360 --> 01:09:12,960 Speaker 2: away from it going I'm not sure there's a better 1232 01:09:12,960 --> 01:09:15,519 Speaker 2: football player in this class. But he plays safety, right, 1233 01:09:15,560 --> 01:09:18,360 Speaker 2: so the question of positional value comes into play. We've 1234 01:09:18,360 --> 01:09:20,960 Speaker 2: talked about him a lot here because the Bengals need 1235 01:09:21,000 --> 01:09:23,240 Speaker 2: safety help. If he's there at ten, there's going to 1236 01:09:23,280 --> 01:09:25,000 Speaker 2: be a lot of teams that decide, you know, we 1237 01:09:25,080 --> 01:09:27,080 Speaker 2: love him, but we're not going to take a safety 1238 01:09:27,160 --> 01:09:29,280 Speaker 2: in the top nine. Maybe the Bengals don't take a 1239 01:09:29,320 --> 01:09:31,680 Speaker 2: safety in the top ten. What does data tell you 1240 01:09:31,760 --> 01:09:34,519 Speaker 2: about a player like him when you go okay on film? 1241 01:09:34,560 --> 01:09:37,759 Speaker 2: He does all these things, but he plays a position 1242 01:09:37,840 --> 01:09:40,160 Speaker 2: that is not regarded as a premium position. 1243 01:09:41,439 --> 01:09:43,400 Speaker 5: So I think there's a couple things, and I'll start 1244 01:09:43,439 --> 01:09:47,000 Speaker 5: off with the premium position comment. I am a data scientist. 1245 01:09:47,080 --> 01:09:50,960 Speaker 5: My goal is to value these players, and as a result, 1246 01:09:51,040 --> 01:09:53,800 Speaker 5: I would really really struggle to take a safety, a 1247 01:09:53,880 --> 01:09:59,599 Speaker 5: running back, or an inside linebacker anywhere, definitely before pick fifteen, 1248 01:10:00,160 --> 01:10:02,360 Speaker 5: And in the case of running backs, I really wouldn't 1249 01:10:02,360 --> 01:10:04,200 Speaker 5: even do it in the first round. I'd start to 1250 01:10:04,240 --> 01:10:08,480 Speaker 5: consider linebackers around maybe pick twenty. 1251 01:10:08,200 --> 01:10:09,000 Speaker 9: Pick twenty five. 1252 01:10:09,360 --> 01:10:13,000 Speaker 5: I'd start to consider safeties around pick fifteen. Now let's 1253 01:10:13,000 --> 01:10:16,559 Speaker 5: move on into the Caleb Downs discussion. Here's the guy 1254 01:10:16,720 --> 01:10:20,000 Speaker 5: who is positionally versatile, can basically do it all. Our 1255 01:10:20,040 --> 01:10:22,759 Speaker 5: scouts think that he potentially could even stretch out to cornerback. 1256 01:10:22,800 --> 01:10:25,720 Speaker 5: We don't have any data on that, but he has 1257 01:10:25,800 --> 01:10:27,880 Speaker 5: basically done it all and done it all well. 1258 01:10:28,040 --> 01:10:30,599 Speaker 9: Whether that was at Alabama or whether that was at 1259 01:10:30,720 --> 01:10:31,519 Speaker 9: Ohio State. 1260 01:10:31,640 --> 01:10:33,680 Speaker 5: So the data does like him. It thinks he's a 1261 01:10:33,760 --> 01:10:38,280 Speaker 5: quality college prospect. Let's go one step further. The consensus 1262 01:10:38,280 --> 01:10:42,479 Speaker 5: big board this year will likely settle with three players 1263 01:10:42,520 --> 01:10:45,800 Speaker 5: at the top who are all non premium positions. 1264 01:10:46,160 --> 01:10:46,639 Speaker 6: Number one. 1265 01:10:46,640 --> 01:10:48,040 Speaker 12: We've heard a lot of people that think it could 1266 01:10:48,040 --> 01:10:48,719 Speaker 12: be Caleb Downs. 1267 01:10:48,760 --> 01:10:50,519 Speaker 5: We think we've talked to a lot of people who 1268 01:10:50,560 --> 01:10:51,720 Speaker 5: think it could be Jeremiah Love. 1269 01:10:52,160 --> 01:10:55,559 Speaker 9: And then Sonny Styles seems to be I don't know 1270 01:10:55,560 --> 01:10:56,080 Speaker 9: if you can. 1271 01:10:55,960 --> 01:10:57,839 Speaker 12: Call him a riser, but as we kind. 1272 01:10:57,640 --> 01:11:00,400 Speaker 5: Of dust off the diamond here on the since this 1273 01:11:00,520 --> 01:11:03,240 Speaker 5: big board, it seems as if Sonny Styles could be 1274 01:11:03,320 --> 01:11:06,040 Speaker 5: in the consensus third best player at his position in 1275 01:11:06,080 --> 01:11:08,840 Speaker 5: this draft. Here's what people need to get out of 1276 01:11:08,880 --> 01:11:11,000 Speaker 5: their mind, though, And I really found this out this 1277 01:11:11,040 --> 01:11:12,560 Speaker 5: week and I double checked it with the data, and 1278 01:11:12,600 --> 01:11:15,439 Speaker 5: it turns out to be correct. People want to go 1279 01:11:15,479 --> 01:11:17,200 Speaker 5: get Nick him and worry. They want to go get 1280 01:11:17,240 --> 01:11:19,479 Speaker 5: Kyle Hamilton, they want to go get Derwin James. Because 1281 01:11:19,520 --> 01:11:22,839 Speaker 5: there's three really really good defenses. And that's three defenses 1282 01:11:22,880 --> 01:11:25,360 Speaker 5: that have these kind of big nickel safeties that allow 1283 01:11:25,479 --> 01:11:28,720 Speaker 5: teams to play a nickel against. 1284 01:11:28,320 --> 01:11:30,080 Speaker 9: Thirteen personnel or twelve personnel. 1285 01:11:30,400 --> 01:11:32,920 Speaker 5: Caleb Downs is not that, and I think that's a 1286 01:11:33,000 --> 01:11:36,400 Speaker 5: misconception that people really think that because he's positionally versatile, 1287 01:11:36,600 --> 01:11:38,960 Speaker 5: he's going to be the type of run defender banger 1288 01:11:39,320 --> 01:11:41,040 Speaker 5: that we've seen from those defenses. 1289 01:11:41,240 --> 01:11:42,280 Speaker 9: I don't think that's the case. 1290 01:11:42,320 --> 01:11:45,680 Speaker 5: I think a better comparable in terms of size that 1291 01:11:45,760 --> 01:11:47,760 Speaker 5: I've heard is someone like Buddha Baker, a guy who 1292 01:11:47,760 --> 01:11:50,479 Speaker 5: can make every tackle but isn't necessarily going to be 1293 01:11:50,520 --> 01:11:53,679 Speaker 5: acting like a linebacker or an edge rusher anytime soon. 1294 01:11:54,040 --> 01:11:56,560 Speaker 5: So I think that's the misconception with Caleb Downs. I 1295 01:11:56,600 --> 01:11:58,559 Speaker 5: think that's the reason why we could see him fall 1296 01:11:58,760 --> 01:12:01,240 Speaker 5: past five. But a lot of people seem to believe 1297 01:12:01,240 --> 01:12:04,320 Speaker 5: that he's the best player at his position in this draft. 1298 01:12:04,760 --> 01:12:07,720 Speaker 9: I for one of a positional value guy. Thus, I wouldn't. 1299 01:12:07,400 --> 01:12:10,439 Speaker 5: Really consider drafting him over an excellent EDG rusher, excellent 1300 01:12:10,439 --> 01:12:13,880 Speaker 5: wide receiver, excellent tackle. If I were a general manager. 1301 01:12:14,880 --> 01:12:17,280 Speaker 2: Well put, Sam, enjoy the combine, man, Thanks so much, 1302 01:12:18,320 --> 01:12:21,360 Speaker 2: Thank you, ell so much. That's our guy. Sam brouckowse 1303 01:12:21,360 --> 01:12:24,200 Speaker 2: suomer Sports check out Summer Sports dot Com, s U 1304 01:12:24,520 --> 01:12:28,800 Speaker 2: M R. Sam does a terrific job. Uses the word 1305 01:12:28,880 --> 01:12:33,840 Speaker 2: hypothesis a lot. We appreciate his time. If Caleb Downs 1306 01:12:33,920 --> 01:12:40,240 Speaker 2: is there at ten, I'm taking them. I've watched the 1307 01:12:40,280 --> 01:12:43,040 Speaker 2: Bengals B and I don't have the twenty twenty five 1308 01:12:43,120 --> 01:12:44,479 Speaker 2: numbers in front of me, but I watched them in 1309 01:12:44,520 --> 01:12:47,360 Speaker 2: twenty twenty four B by far and away the worst 1310 01:12:47,360 --> 01:12:50,680 Speaker 2: team in the NFL at giving up explosive plays. I 1311 01:12:50,680 --> 01:12:53,120 Speaker 2: would imagine they're not that far removed from the bottom 1312 01:12:53,240 --> 01:12:59,639 Speaker 2: in twenty twenty five. I'm taking Caleb Downs thirteen away 1313 01:12:59,640 --> 01:13:03,600 Speaker 2: from five o'clock. But I mean, that's it's it's a 1314 01:13:04,160 --> 01:13:07,800 Speaker 2: very relevant discussion, right, There's a reason why it was. 1315 01:13:07,880 --> 01:13:10,559 Speaker 2: Jamal Adams was the last safety go, the last safety 1316 01:13:10,560 --> 01:13:12,839 Speaker 2: to go in the top eight. If I'm not mistaken, 1317 01:13:12,960 --> 01:13:17,559 Speaker 2: Like there's discussions about positional value that are there, and 1318 01:13:17,680 --> 01:13:20,880 Speaker 2: they're fair and they're legitimate, and they don't just happen here. 1319 01:13:21,439 --> 01:13:24,320 Speaker 2: Twelve away from five o'clock, five point three, seven, four, nine, 1320 01:13:24,360 --> 01:13:27,320 Speaker 2: fifteen thirty. So what 1344 01:14:39,920 --> 01:14:42,920 Speaker 2: does that mean for us? Is Bruno Mars is going 1345 01:14:43,000 --> 01:14:44,920 Speaker 2: to be doing sports talk on this station later. 1346 01:14:44,840 --> 01:14:49,200 Speaker 1: Tonight, maybe anything to promote his new album, which I 1347 01:14:49,200 --> 01:14:49,880 Speaker 1: don't know the name of. 1348 01:14:51,000 --> 01:14:53,880 Speaker 2: Oh, I'm sure it's great though. We don't have any 1356 01:15:16,320 --> 01:15:20,080 Speaker 2: live games or anything. Correct, No, kay, there's no Kentucky's 1357 01:15:20,120 --> 01:15:23,680 Speaker 2: not playing FC Cincinnati's not playing well. The Reds are 1358 01:15:24,040 --> 01:15:27,240 Speaker 2: beating the Padres. They have scored six times and they're 1359 01:15:27,240 --> 01:15:29,479 Speaker 2: still batting in the bottom of the fifth inning. Dane 1360 01:15:29,479 --> 01:15:33,360 Speaker 2: Myers has just doubled in a run Noelve. Marte scoring 1361 01:15:33,560 --> 01:15:38,200 Speaker 2: uh Noelve, has had a three RBI day. Will Benson's 1362 01:15:38,240 --> 01:15:40,200 Speaker 2: been on base a couple of times and scored twice. 1363 01:15:40,240 --> 01:15:42,400 Speaker 2: Spencer Steer has been on base three times and he 1364 01:15:42,439 --> 01:15:45,519 Speaker 2: has scored twice. Ellie Dela Cruz has driven in two runs. 1365 01:15:45,560 --> 01:15:48,920 Speaker 2: He has two hits, including a triple, also has to 1366 01:15:49,000 --> 01:15:50,720 Speaker 2: double the triple. By the way, the Red showed a 1367 01:15:50,760 --> 01:15:53,599 Speaker 2: highlight of and watching Ellie Dela Cruz go from home 1368 01:15:53,600 --> 01:15:56,120 Speaker 2: to third is always a lot of fun. Nine to three. 1369 01:15:56,160 --> 01:16:00,439 Speaker 2: They've played five innings. It's an official game. It's an 1370 01:16:00,439 --> 01:16:04,639 Speaker 2: official game that doesn't count Radsley the Padres nine to three. 1371 01:16:04,960 --> 01:16:07,200 Speaker 2: As San Diego gets set to come to the plate. 1372 01:16:07,240 --> 01:16:12,640 Speaker 2: In the top of the sixth inning, Manny Machado hit 1373 01:16:12,680 --> 01:16:15,880 Speaker 2: a home run for San Diego. We were talking before 1374 01:16:16,080 --> 01:16:19,320 Speaker 2: about Jordan Battle. Al Golden had a bunch of really 1375 01:16:19,439 --> 01:16:22,920 Speaker 2: nice things to say yesterday at the Combine about Jordan 1376 01:16:23,000 --> 01:16:26,639 Speaker 2: Battle and talked about how he's just now scratching the surface. 1377 01:16:27,160 --> 01:16:29,679 Speaker 2: Let's put a good group around him, and that's where 1378 01:16:29,720 --> 01:16:34,800 Speaker 2: the force the force multiplier term comes in, right. I 1379 01:16:34,840 --> 01:16:38,040 Speaker 2: guess there's room for multiple truths. We say this all 1380 01:16:38,080 --> 01:16:40,800 Speaker 2: the time. Jordan Battle last year did some really nice 1381 01:16:40,840 --> 01:16:43,679 Speaker 2: things and did some things that would make you believe 1382 01:16:43,760 --> 01:16:45,320 Speaker 2: like that's a guy who can be a part of 1383 01:16:45,360 --> 01:16:48,280 Speaker 2: the team moving forward. I think what would be awesome 1384 01:16:48,320 --> 01:16:50,760 Speaker 2: would be if Jordan Battle were in a safety mix 1385 01:16:50,800 --> 01:16:55,400 Speaker 2: that included maybe drafting the best guy available and signing 1386 01:16:55,479 --> 01:16:58,719 Speaker 2: a starting caliber player in free agency. And then giving 1387 01:16:58,800 --> 01:17:03,040 Speaker 2: Al Golden Moore Pols more toys to play with at 1388 01:17:03,080 --> 01:17:06,000 Speaker 2: the safety spot. But I kind of felt like when 1389 01:17:06,080 --> 01:17:10,960 Speaker 2: last season ended, there was a real consensus belief that 1390 01:17:11,120 --> 01:17:17,200 Speaker 2: Jordan Battle had finally played at a level that enabled 1391 01:17:17,240 --> 01:17:21,960 Speaker 2: him to kind of move into that, you know, foundational 1392 01:17:22,040 --> 01:17:27,000 Speaker 2: piece group moving forward. I don't know that having Jordan 1393 01:17:27,040 --> 01:17:29,479 Speaker 2: Battle on your team should preclude you from taking the 1394 01:17:29,520 --> 01:17:32,160 Speaker 2: best safety available if Caleb Downs is there at number ten. 1395 01:17:32,600 --> 01:17:34,840 Speaker 2: I'm not sure that Jordan Battle should preclude you from 1396 01:17:34,880 --> 01:17:39,720 Speaker 2: finding better players in free agency. But it's okay. It's 1397 01:17:39,720 --> 01:17:42,000 Speaker 2: okay to have more than two safeties. I know we 1398 01:17:43,000 --> 01:17:44,960 Speaker 2: spent a lot of time in recent years, even when 1399 01:17:44,960 --> 01:17:47,679 Speaker 2: the Bengals have been really good at safety, watching them 1400 01:17:47,720 --> 01:17:51,479 Speaker 2: basically just use two guys. But I don't know that 1401 01:17:51,520 --> 01:17:56,679 Speaker 2: the endorsement of Jordan Battle was misplaced, Like, yeah, okay, 1402 01:17:56,680 --> 01:17:59,400 Speaker 2: your last year, and trust me, I think anybody could 1403 01:17:59,400 --> 01:18:01,960 Speaker 2: play safety look better when you're playing next to Gino Stone. 1404 01:18:02,040 --> 01:18:04,000 Speaker 2: So you know, maybe you take what he did last 1405 01:18:04,000 --> 01:18:06,720 Speaker 2: season with a grain of salt. But I don't know 1406 01:18:06,760 --> 01:18:09,400 Speaker 2: that anybody who watched last season thought by the end 1407 01:18:09,439 --> 01:18:11,360 Speaker 2: of the year like it's time to move on from 1408 01:18:11,439 --> 01:18:13,800 Speaker 2: Jordan Battle. That's a guy who looks like he should 1409 01:18:13,840 --> 01:18:17,559 Speaker 2: be a part of the solution moving forward. But if 1410 01:18:18,439 --> 01:18:20,880 Speaker 2: it's we're not gonna take Caleb downs because we have 1411 01:18:21,000 --> 01:18:26,280 Speaker 2: Jordan Battle, I don't know that that's necessarily the proper strategy. Again, 1412 01:18:26,320 --> 01:18:29,120 Speaker 2: there are very good conversations about whether or not he's there, 1413 01:18:29,439 --> 01:18:32,280 Speaker 2: about if he's also there with Ruben Bain, about what 1414 01:18:32,320 --> 01:18:35,360 Speaker 2: other options are available at safety? Do you really take 1415 01:18:35,360 --> 01:18:37,559 Speaker 2: a safety with a tenth overall pick? Can you maybe 1416 01:18:37,600 --> 01:18:39,599 Speaker 2: take him a little bit later? But like the Jordan 1417 01:18:39,680 --> 01:18:42,800 Speaker 2: Battle pushback that was online yesterday, First of all, it's online, 1418 01:18:42,880 --> 01:18:46,799 Speaker 2: so there's pushback to everything, like there's online the puppies 1419 01:18:46,840 --> 01:18:49,040 Speaker 2: and pancakes on social media, So do what you want 1420 01:18:49,120 --> 01:18:51,559 Speaker 2: with that. But I thought he played at a level 1421 01:18:51,600 --> 01:18:53,240 Speaker 2: last year that made you feel like he can be 1422 01:18:53,320 --> 01:18:56,559 Speaker 2: one of those pieces moving forward. They need more And 1423 01:18:56,600 --> 01:18:58,240 Speaker 2: I think that was also the crux of what al 1424 01:18:58,280 --> 01:19:00,920 Speaker 2: Golden had to say yesterday. But there was something to 1425 01:19:01,080 --> 01:19:05,439 Speaker 2: like about the way Jordan Battle played last season. The 1426 01:19:05,640 --> 01:19:08,920 Speaker 2: question is a can he do better? Be what else 1427 01:19:08,960 --> 01:19:12,599 Speaker 2: do they do with him at that particular position. Five 1428 01:19:13,800 --> 01:19:20,240 Speaker 2: fifteen thirty is our phone number. That's all right, Well, 1429 01:19:19,840 --> 01:19:22,599 Speaker 2: we'll listen to the Bruno Mars promo coming up after 1430 01:19:22,640 --> 01:19:24,679 Speaker 2: the top of the ave. We'll tease that it's coming 1431 01:19:24,760 --> 01:19:29,479 Speaker 2: up on five o'clock. What's that five o'clock on ESPN 1432 01:19:29,560 --> 01:19:32,360 Speaker 2: fifteen thirty. 1433 01:19:31,320 --> 01:19:34,799 Speaker 13: Looking for the best in Flag thirty Cincinnati Sports station. 1434 01:19:35,479 --> 01:19:38,760 Speaker 2: Nobody covers the Bengals like ESPN fifteen thirty. We've got 1435 01:19:38,840 --> 01:19:43,040 Speaker 2: good guests from the Combine this week now, not as 1436 01:19:43,080 --> 01:19:45,400 Speaker 2: good as if we would have broadcast from the Combine, 1437 01:19:45,400 --> 01:19:48,719 Speaker 2: which is my goal for next year. We will see 1438 01:19:49,720 --> 01:19:52,280 Speaker 2: we've had good guests on from the Combine. By the way, 1439 01:19:52,320 --> 01:19:55,120 Speaker 2: I just saw this headline. And when I say I 1440 01:19:55,200 --> 01:19:57,720 Speaker 2: just saw the headline, I acknowledge I have not yet 1441 01:19:57,760 --> 01:20:00,040 Speaker 2: had time to click on the link to read the 1442 01:20:00,360 --> 01:20:04,080 Speaker 2: But the Bengals have met with Dante Corleone, the Godfather, 1443 01:20:05,600 --> 01:20:09,320 Speaker 2: who last year was really interesting. We all loved Dante 1444 01:20:09,360 --> 01:20:12,559 Speaker 2: Corleone last year. You know, two years ago he was 1445 01:20:12,600 --> 01:20:17,560 Speaker 2: coming off the blood clot which completely destroyed his offseason 1446 01:20:17,720 --> 01:20:22,400 Speaker 2: and impacted, by his own admission, his conditioning and his 1447 01:20:22,400 --> 01:20:25,080 Speaker 2: preparedness for the twenty twenty four season. This past year, 1448 01:20:25,160 --> 01:20:28,760 Speaker 2: he had a quote normal offseason. It was weird, how 1449 01:20:28,760 --> 01:20:31,200 Speaker 2: they used him. It was weird how he was often 1450 01:20:31,400 --> 01:20:35,400 Speaker 2: not one hundred percent, and when he's healthy and available, 1451 01:20:35,400 --> 01:20:37,760 Speaker 2: that defense was entirely different than when he wasn't on 1452 01:20:37,800 --> 01:20:40,720 Speaker 2: the field. He just wasn't on the field as much 1453 01:20:40,800 --> 01:20:42,960 Speaker 2: as I think he would have liked and as much 1454 01:20:42,960 --> 01:20:45,640 Speaker 2: as as a as a UC fan, I would have 1455 01:20:45,720 --> 01:20:47,880 Speaker 2: liked that, and I would imagine most Bearcad fans would agree. 1456 01:20:47,920 --> 01:20:50,320 Speaker 2: So his what happens with him at the next level 1457 01:20:50,520 --> 01:20:53,240 Speaker 2: unroot like hell for that dude. But what happens with 1458 01:20:53,360 --> 01:20:54,880 Speaker 2: him at the next level I think is going to 1459 01:20:54,920 --> 01:20:57,320 Speaker 2: be interesting to pay attention to. The Bengals have at 1460 01:20:57,400 --> 01:21:01,960 Speaker 2: least met with him. We're gonna chat with Cyclones legend 1461 01:21:02,120 --> 01:21:04,639 Speaker 2: Justin Vive coming up in just about fifteen minutes. Reds 1462 01:21:04,640 --> 01:21:07,559 Speaker 2: are playing this afternoon high scoring game against the Padres 1463 01:21:07,640 --> 01:21:10,080 Speaker 2: nine to five during Goodyear Today, top of the sixth inning, 1464 01:21:10,160 --> 01:21:13,640 Speaker 2: San Diego is batting, Cincinnati scored six times. In the 1465 01:21:13,680 --> 01:21:16,559 Speaker 2: bottom of the fifth inning, Ellie Dela Cruz has doubled 1466 01:21:16,560 --> 01:21:20,320 Speaker 2: and tripled. Chase Burns pitch today went two and a third, 1467 01:21:21,080 --> 01:21:23,760 Speaker 2: struggled with his control a bit, walked to had a 1468 01:21:23,760 --> 01:21:26,320 Speaker 2: while pitch gave up a couple of hits also struck 1469 01:21:26,360 --> 01:21:30,439 Speaker 2: out five. Tarn wants to do this, and so we'll 1470 01:21:30,520 --> 01:21:32,759 Speaker 2: do this and then we'll move on. But I believe 1471 01:21:32,800 --> 01:21:39,439 Speaker 2: we will have fulfilled our obligation to mention this. I 1509 01:24:04,439 --> 01:24:07,800 Speaker 1: don't have to beautiful people. What about does ugly people 1510 01:24:07,800 --> 01:24:11,599 Speaker 1: like myself? And then my little radio station come on? 1511 01:24:11,640 --> 01:24:11,840 Speaker 9: Now? 1512 01:24:12,920 --> 01:24:14,479 Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you're on, Like you're gonna be on 1513 01:24:14,479 --> 01:24:16,880 Speaker 2: like a thousand radio stations on and the biggest like 1514 01:24:16,960 --> 01:24:19,320 Speaker 2: audio company in the world. Like you would think somebody 1515 01:24:19,360 --> 01:24:21,400 Speaker 2: at the at the mothership would have caught that. But like, 1516 01:24:21,720 --> 01:24:23,960 Speaker 2: what if I spend the rest of the hour talking 1517 01:24:23,960 --> 01:24:26,280 Speaker 2: about Brendan Sorees being getting sued by the University of 1518 01:24:26,320 --> 01:24:29,479 Speaker 2: Cincinnati and uh, he's gonna have to fuck over a 1519 01:24:29,520 --> 01:24:32,160 Speaker 2: million dollars, but he doesn't want to be sued. And 1520 01:24:32,200 --> 01:24:36,040 Speaker 2: so this adds a dimension to that game on in 1521 01:24:36,080 --> 01:24:39,320 Speaker 2: October when they come here, it's homecoming. Like I kind 1522 01:24:39,320 --> 01:24:42,400 Speaker 2: of feel like I'm I'm doing Bruno Mars and Dusty Rhodes, 1523 01:24:44,000 --> 01:24:46,040 Speaker 2: Like I I don't know that I I don't know 1524 01:24:46,080 --> 01:24:48,280 Speaker 2: that I could could pull that off. That's why Bruno 1525 01:24:48,439 --> 01:24:50,920 Speaker 2: Mars is who he is, and that's why I am 1526 01:24:50,960 --> 01:24:53,720 Speaker 2: who I am. Like I don't I don't know that 1527 01:24:53,800 --> 01:24:55,559 Speaker 2: I I don't know that I could channel the same 1528 01:24:55,680 --> 01:24:57,960 Speaker 2: energy if I go, hey man, the combine is happening. 1529 01:24:58,479 --> 01:25:01,520 Speaker 2: Oh baby, the combine has happened right now in Indianapolis. 1530 01:25:01,720 --> 01:25:05,120 Speaker 2: Ruben Bains got those small arms, baby, But man, I 1531 01:25:05,200 --> 01:25:07,120 Speaker 2: tell you what. You watch them on tape and the 1532 01:25:07,200 --> 01:25:11,200 Speaker 2: guy can get after the quarterback like I am, I am, 1533 01:25:11,360 --> 01:25:13,280 Speaker 2: I am. I'm willing to do this in an effort 1534 01:25:13,280 --> 01:25:17,519 Speaker 2: to promote Bruno Mars in romantic an ad workout here. 1535 01:25:17,560 --> 01:25:20,839 Speaker 2: Please keep going. You're doing an ad workout in the studio. 1536 01:25:20,880 --> 01:25:24,000 Speaker 2: That's what's going on right now. Okay, all right, I mean, look, 1537 01:25:24,240 --> 01:25:26,680 Speaker 2: it's it's it's hard to keep up. Like what you 1538 01:25:26,840 --> 01:25:28,559 Speaker 2: just heard there from brun Omar was like a thirty 1539 01:25:28,600 --> 01:25:32,200 Speaker 2: second promo. And you know, we've been asked to promote this, 1540 01:25:32,240 --> 01:25:33,720 Speaker 2: and let's be honest. You know, we don't do a 1541 01:25:33,720 --> 01:25:35,400 Speaker 2: lot of Bruno Mars. We don't do a lot, we 1542 01:25:35,400 --> 01:25:36,960 Speaker 2: don't do a lot of music on this show. It's 1543 01:25:37,000 --> 01:25:40,760 Speaker 2: an AM sports talk radio show. But perhaps in an 1544 01:25:40,840 --> 01:25:46,200 Speaker 2: effort to uh to talk about Bruno Mars, we talk 1545 01:25:46,400 --> 01:25:50,000 Speaker 2: like Bruno Mars as we put forth the the sports 1546 01:25:50,040 --> 01:25:54,400 Speaker 2: talk radio. Now when we interview Justin Vive of the Cyclones, 1547 01:25:54,840 --> 01:25:58,760 Speaker 2: who is a point away from being the Cyclones all 1548 01:25:58,800 --> 01:26:00,920 Speaker 2: time leader in point score. This guy's a legend. He's 1549 01:26:00,920 --> 01:26:03,360 Speaker 2: played in a billion games for the Cyclones and they're 1550 01:26:03,360 --> 01:26:06,840 Speaker 2: wearing their Skyline three way jerseys on Saturday. Do you 1551 01:26:06,840 --> 01:26:09,559 Speaker 2: think Justin Vive will be weirded out if when he 1552 01:26:09,640 --> 01:26:11,600 Speaker 2: joins the show and we put the phone call on 1553 01:26:11,640 --> 01:26:15,479 Speaker 2: the air, I say to him, Justin Vive, you beautiful 1554 01:26:15,520 --> 01:26:18,479 Speaker 2: hockey player. You about to score that big goal and 1555 01:26:18,600 --> 01:26:22,320 Speaker 2: be the all time leading points? Is it points score 1556 01:26:22,600 --> 01:26:25,639 Speaker 2: in hockey because you get a point for getting an assist? 1557 01:26:27,000 --> 01:26:30,160 Speaker 2: Justin Vive, Baby, You've been with the Cyclones for years, 1558 01:26:30,720 --> 01:26:33,080 Speaker 2: and I'll tell you what. The Cyclones have a kind 1559 01:26:33,080 --> 01:26:35,160 Speaker 2: of an up and down season again. I I sort 1560 01:26:35,200 --> 01:26:38,000 Speaker 2: of feel like I'm morphing into a bad version of 1561 01:26:38,080 --> 01:26:41,200 Speaker 2: Dusty Rhodes. Don't do that, I don't know. Don't that 1562 01:26:41,320 --> 01:26:43,240 Speaker 2: a guest, I don't know. Don't do that with guests. 1563 01:26:43,360 --> 01:26:45,559 Speaker 2: Just do it when I'm like talking. What about when 1564 01:26:45,600 --> 01:26:51,240 Speaker 2: we take calls? I'm sure, I'm sure? Now can we 1565 01:26:51,280 --> 01:26:53,760 Speaker 2: get the people on hold to talk the same way 1566 01:26:53,800 --> 01:26:56,600 Speaker 2: that Bruno mars Jess was like, I know Mike is 1567 01:26:56,640 --> 01:26:59,600 Speaker 2: on hold, and uh because he calls every day and 1568 01:27:00,200 --> 01:27:02,960 Speaker 2: I'm sure we'll have time for him. One might argue, 1569 01:27:03,080 --> 01:27:05,240 Speaker 2: we should talk to him right now. But when we 1570 01:27:05,280 --> 01:27:07,679 Speaker 2: put Mike on the air, do you think Mike will 1571 01:27:07,720 --> 01:27:11,559 Speaker 2: react well? If I put him on a go Mike, Mike, 1572 01:27:11,720 --> 01:27:14,840 Speaker 2: you beautiful sports talk radio collar. It is awesome to 1573 01:27:14,880 --> 01:27:16,160 Speaker 2: hear from you. What do you want to say about 1574 01:27:16,160 --> 01:27:20,000 Speaker 2: your Dodgers. I don't know. I don't know. I think 1575 01:27:20,040 --> 01:27:23,479 Speaker 2: we've overdone this bit quite frankly, I don't know that 1576 01:27:23,640 --> 01:27:27,120 Speaker 2: another fifty minutes of it is sustainable. But make sure 1577 01:27:27,160 --> 01:27:31,600 Speaker 2: you check out Bruno Mar's Romantic Radio tonight across a 1578 01:27:31,640 --> 01:27:37,160 Speaker 2: number of different iHeart Radio stations and on TikTok. And 1579 01:27:37,240 --> 01:27:39,160 Speaker 2: I can tell you this. You try to keep me 1580 01:27:39,200 --> 01:27:43,080 Speaker 2: away from TikTok when I'm in my free time. You know, 1581 01:27:43,120 --> 01:27:45,680 Speaker 2: there's Twitter's fun, but I'm a bit I have a 1582 01:27:45,720 --> 01:27:47,920 Speaker 2: burner TikTok account and I don't use my real name. 1583 01:27:48,040 --> 01:27:50,320 Speaker 2: I'm just tiktoking all over the place. And I'll be 1584 01:27:50,360 --> 01:27:54,759 Speaker 2: watching Bruno Tonight Romantic Radio at nine pm. And if 1585 01:27:54,800 --> 01:27:57,200 Speaker 2: you can't find it on TikTok, then I'm sure on 1586 01:27:57,320 --> 01:28:04,400 Speaker 2: your favorite Romantic radio iHeart radio station. That was not 1587 01:28:04,439 --> 01:28:07,360 Speaker 2: a part of the show that we planned before three o'clock. 1588 01:28:08,400 --> 01:28:09,920 Speaker 6: That wut there. 1589 01:28:11,000 --> 01:28:13,519 Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll tell you someone, I'm gonna be having it 1590 01:28:13,560 --> 01:28:15,680 Speaker 2: and win. In a marcan we could pull out the 1591 01:28:15,680 --> 01:28:17,800 Speaker 2: stuff that was actually good. And you know what you 1592 01:28:17,800 --> 01:28:19,280 Speaker 2: gotta do to one of Marconi is you have to 1593 01:28:19,320 --> 01:28:23,200 Speaker 2: nominate yourself. Uh. I don't know if we're gonna be 1594 01:28:23,240 --> 01:28:27,000 Speaker 2: doing that. Twelve after five o'clock, ESPN fifteen thirty. Reuben 1595 01:28:27,040 --> 01:28:29,480 Speaker 2: Bain has historically short arms. 1596 01:28:31,080 --> 01:28:31,920 Speaker 4: And like this is. 1597 01:28:33,360 --> 01:28:36,880 Speaker 2: You don't ignore it, right, It is a measurable that 1598 01:28:36,960 --> 01:28:41,120 Speaker 2: they chart at the combine for a reason. Somebody is 1599 01:28:41,240 --> 01:28:46,160 Speaker 2: interested in that data. Somebody, let's say it's about the Bengals. 1600 01:28:46,520 --> 01:28:49,439 Speaker 2: Somebody in that room, even though the Bengals don't have 1601 01:28:49,520 --> 01:28:52,680 Speaker 2: as many people in the room as other teams, somebody 1602 01:28:52,720 --> 01:28:57,200 Speaker 2: in that room will be tasked with talking about and 1603 01:28:57,280 --> 01:29:00,799 Speaker 2: maybe making the case for leaning into his arm size 1604 01:29:00,840 --> 01:29:03,800 Speaker 2: as a reason to not draft him. By the way, 1605 01:29:03,840 --> 01:29:06,800 Speaker 2: the Bengals aren't picking first or third or fifth, and 1606 01:29:07,000 --> 01:29:08,880 Speaker 2: who knows, Man, the dude may be gone by the 1607 01:29:08,880 --> 01:29:11,120 Speaker 2: time the Bengals go on the clock. Bengals may have 1608 01:29:11,160 --> 01:29:14,160 Speaker 2: a dress pass rush. But like, you can't help but 1609 01:29:14,200 --> 01:29:16,680 Speaker 2: talk about him in relation to the Bengals because the 1610 01:29:16,680 --> 01:29:20,000 Speaker 2: Bengals told us to Duke Tobin when he said pass 1611 01:29:20,080 --> 01:29:25,640 Speaker 2: rush is king, I think dramatically sent the offseason conversation 1612 01:29:26,240 --> 01:29:29,519 Speaker 2: toward a very specific direction. How do they get better 1613 01:29:29,520 --> 01:29:32,160 Speaker 2: at getting after the quarterback? Now that's gonna happen with 1614 01:29:32,240 --> 01:29:36,280 Speaker 2: internal options. It's impossible to imagine the Bengals pass rush 1615 01:29:36,320 --> 01:29:39,280 Speaker 2: being better in twenty twenty six if Miles Murphy doesn't 1616 01:29:39,320 --> 01:29:42,400 Speaker 2: continue his ascension. And one of the cool stories in 1617 01:29:42,439 --> 01:29:44,400 Speaker 2: the second half of the season was felt like the 1618 01:29:44,479 --> 01:29:47,040 Speaker 2: light bulb came on with Miles Murphy. It is really 1619 01:29:47,080 --> 01:29:50,639 Speaker 2: hard to imagine the pass rush getting dramatically better if 1620 01:29:50,640 --> 01:29:54,960 Speaker 2: Shamar Stewart isn't at least on the field and hopefully productive. 1621 01:29:55,600 --> 01:29:57,719 Speaker 2: And then it's you know, you talk about free agency. 1622 01:29:57,760 --> 01:30:00,160 Speaker 2: They need they need inside pass rush help. They are 1623 01:30:00,200 --> 01:30:02,439 Speaker 2: going to be able to They're gonna need an outside 1624 01:30:02,479 --> 01:30:04,519 Speaker 2: pass rush out. It's hard to imagine the Bengals pass 1625 01:30:04,600 --> 01:30:08,240 Speaker 2: rush being dramatically better, being king if you will, if 1626 01:30:08,280 --> 01:30:10,960 Speaker 2: they don't address it in a free agency. But if 1627 01:30:10,960 --> 01:30:14,639 Speaker 2: you're the team that's replacing Trey Hendrickson and the team 1628 01:30:14,640 --> 01:30:17,720 Speaker 2: that's needed an upgrade at getting after the quarterback for 1629 01:30:17,760 --> 01:30:20,880 Speaker 2: a while now, going back to when they took Miles Murphy, 1630 01:30:21,240 --> 01:30:24,760 Speaker 2: and this dude's available and nine teams have passed on him. 1631 01:30:25,120 --> 01:30:28,360 Speaker 2: How do you not at least talk about drafting Reuben Bain. 1632 01:30:28,840 --> 01:30:32,920 Speaker 2: What's interesting about the Bengals is they're the team that 1633 01:30:33,080 --> 01:30:39,240 Speaker 2: has kind of prioritized traits. Now, it is an oversimplification 1634 01:30:39,360 --> 01:30:43,040 Speaker 2: to say that Shamar Stewart didn't produce in college because 1635 01:30:43,080 --> 01:30:46,439 Speaker 2: he was disruptive. Like he did wreak some havoc. He 1636 01:30:46,560 --> 01:30:50,880 Speaker 2: constantly beat his blocker. He was disruptive, and disruptions are 1637 01:30:51,280 --> 01:30:54,920 Speaker 2: not insignificant. They can translate to the NFL. If you 1638 01:30:55,040 --> 01:30:57,719 Speaker 2: got an edge who's disruptive, good things are gonna happen, 1639 01:30:57,800 --> 01:31:01,400 Speaker 2: even if he's not finishing plays. But I do think 1640 01:31:01,439 --> 01:31:03,840 Speaker 2: there's like a baseline number of sacks you are looking 1641 01:31:03,920 --> 01:31:06,960 Speaker 2: for and jam or Jamar Shamar Stewart did not post 1642 01:31:06,960 --> 01:31:09,400 Speaker 2: that number of sacks either in his last year at 1643 01:31:09,439 --> 01:31:11,240 Speaker 2: Texas A and M or over the course of his 1644 01:31:11,400 --> 01:31:14,519 Speaker 2: entire college football career. But the Bengals still took him. 1645 01:31:14,520 --> 01:31:18,920 Speaker 2: Why because they loved the measurables. They leaned on the measurables. 1646 01:31:19,000 --> 01:31:24,679 Speaker 2: They prioritize the measurables. Does that work in the opposite direction. 1647 01:31:24,760 --> 01:31:27,759 Speaker 2: When it comes to a guy like Ruben Bain, Hey, look, man, 1648 01:31:28,200 --> 01:31:30,519 Speaker 2: we see what he does on tape twenty and a 1649 01:31:30,560 --> 01:31:33,280 Speaker 2: half sacks in his college career, nine and a half 1650 01:31:33,360 --> 01:31:36,920 Speaker 2: last season in the National Title game, he was I 1651 01:31:36,920 --> 01:31:39,000 Speaker 2: thought at times he was the best player on the field. 1652 01:31:39,160 --> 01:31:42,560 Speaker 2: He was awesome. I don't know if you root for 1653 01:31:42,600 --> 01:31:45,080 Speaker 2: an NFL team that needs a better pass rush, I 1654 01:31:45,120 --> 01:31:47,720 Speaker 2: don't know how he'll watch that game against against Indiana 1655 01:31:47,840 --> 01:31:49,960 Speaker 2: and didn't think about what that dude would look like 1656 01:31:50,000 --> 01:31:52,160 Speaker 2: in your team's uniform, which for us as the Bengals, 1657 01:31:53,479 --> 01:31:56,200 Speaker 2: So is it like the opposite this year where they go, God, 1658 01:31:56,280 --> 01:31:58,280 Speaker 2: you know what, look at the film, Look at what 1659 01:31:58,320 --> 01:32:01,040 Speaker 2: he does. He sack in the quarter, he's making plays 1660 01:32:01,080 --> 01:32:03,840 Speaker 2: against the run, he's disruptive. Hell, he had a pick 1661 01:32:03,920 --> 01:32:09,280 Speaker 2: last year. Yeah, but you know what, short arms. I 1662 01:32:09,320 --> 01:32:11,479 Speaker 2: don't know that any of us have the answer. We 1663 01:32:11,560 --> 01:32:13,519 Speaker 2: may have what we would want the answer to be, 1664 01:32:13,640 --> 01:32:17,040 Speaker 2: which for me, it's just watch the tape. Dude, dude 1665 01:32:17,040 --> 01:32:19,800 Speaker 2: can play. He had short arms in college, played at 1666 01:32:19,800 --> 01:32:22,200 Speaker 2: a really high level. And if it's not Ruben Bain 1667 01:32:22,280 --> 01:32:24,880 Speaker 2: and you still need an edge rusher in the draft, cool, 1668 01:32:25,040 --> 01:32:27,360 Speaker 2: then who you're gonna get When are you gonna get him? 1669 01:32:27,640 --> 01:32:31,120 Speaker 2: That's also a part of this. But what makes the 1670 01:32:31,120 --> 01:32:35,240 Speaker 2: Bengals really interesting is they're the team that in the 1671 01:32:35,240 --> 01:32:39,040 Speaker 2: first round last year raised eyebrows taking a guy who 1672 01:32:39,120 --> 01:32:45,000 Speaker 2: wasn't that productive because they loved the measurable. The opposite 1673 01:32:45,200 --> 01:32:48,439 Speaker 2: is a dude on tape is doing everything you could 1674 01:32:48,479 --> 01:32:52,280 Speaker 2: ever ask. But there's this one measurable to not like 1675 01:32:53,000 --> 01:32:55,599 Speaker 2: does that compel them to not take him? And if 1676 01:32:55,600 --> 01:32:57,840 Speaker 2: they don't, and if he ends up being as good 1677 01:32:57,920 --> 01:33:00,320 Speaker 2: as a lot of people think he can be a 1678 01:33:01,120 --> 01:33:03,679 Speaker 2: what will they have done in lieu of taking Rubin 1679 01:33:03,720 --> 01:33:06,720 Speaker 2: Bain two? How bad are they gonna look if he 1680 01:33:06,800 --> 01:33:10,000 Speaker 2: ends up being as good at the next level as 1681 01:33:10,000 --> 01:33:16,040 Speaker 2: he was in Miami despite having short arms. For me 1682 01:33:16,080 --> 01:33:18,120 Speaker 2: and I think for a lot of us, it's just 1683 01:33:18,360 --> 01:33:21,240 Speaker 2: put the tape on dudes making football plays. He'll figure 1684 01:33:21,280 --> 01:33:23,719 Speaker 2: it out. None of us are dismissing what short arms 1685 01:33:23,720 --> 01:33:26,040 Speaker 2: can mean for an edge guy. None of us are 1686 01:33:26,080 --> 01:33:29,960 Speaker 2: dismissing the metric itself. And by the way, it's only one, like, 1687 01:33:30,000 --> 01:33:33,240 Speaker 2: there's other things you're gonna look at. But will the 1688 01:33:33,240 --> 01:33:36,439 Speaker 2: Bengals do what they did with Schamar Stewart last year, 1689 01:33:36,479 --> 01:33:40,280 Speaker 2: but in a bizarro world, Shamar Stewart didn't put as 1690 01:33:40,360 --> 01:33:42,840 Speaker 2: much on tape as many would like. Bengals were cool 1691 01:33:42,880 --> 01:33:46,280 Speaker 2: with have taken them because boy, the the tape measure 1692 01:33:46,320 --> 01:33:50,880 Speaker 2: stuff looked really good. The tape measure thing. It's one 1693 01:33:50,920 --> 01:33:53,479 Speaker 2: thing with Ruben Bain doesn't look nearly as good. If 1694 01:33:53,560 --> 01:33:57,719 Speaker 2: he's there, big if will they not take him despite 1695 01:33:57,720 --> 01:34:00,960 Speaker 2: what he put on film. And I would say, 1742 01:36:29,120 --> 01:36:30,880 Speaker 8: you know, a good percentage of the time, the guys 1743 01:36:30,920 --> 01:36:32,519 Speaker 8: come back the next day in the locker room and 1744 01:36:32,560 --> 01:36:34,240 Speaker 8: they're actually pleasantly surprised. 1745 01:36:35,200 --> 01:36:37,880 Speaker 2: Yeah, this is what real leadership in the locker room 1746 01:36:37,920 --> 01:36:40,080 Speaker 2: is all about. You know, the guy who's been here 1747 01:36:40,160 --> 01:36:42,320 Speaker 2: for a while, who knows where to go get making 1748 01:36:42,360 --> 01:36:44,559 Speaker 2: sure the guys go to skyline and have a great experience. 1749 01:36:44,720 --> 01:36:47,040 Speaker 2: More than anything you do on the ice, this is pivotal. 1750 01:36:48,560 --> 01:36:49,919 Speaker 6: I would say so myself. 1751 01:36:50,120 --> 01:36:52,840 Speaker 8: I mean I got kind of turned onto it early 1752 01:36:52,880 --> 01:36:57,160 Speaker 8: on here and ever since I've been a massive supporter, 1753 01:36:57,280 --> 01:37:00,080 Speaker 8: and you know, I'm just pumped out we're partnering with 1754 01:37:00,120 --> 01:37:01,400 Speaker 8: them again for another jersey. 1755 01:37:02,760 --> 01:37:05,240 Speaker 2: No, it's cool. The jerseys are are terrific. 1756 01:37:05,479 --> 01:37:05,639 Speaker 6: You. 1757 01:37:05,760 --> 01:37:08,160 Speaker 2: Earlier this year we had you on when you you 1758 01:37:08,160 --> 01:37:10,560 Speaker 2: played in your five hundredth game as a member of 1759 01:37:10,560 --> 01:37:14,639 Speaker 2: the Cincinnati Cyclones. You are a point away from becoming 1760 01:37:14,720 --> 01:37:18,120 Speaker 2: the franchise's all time leader endpoints. What will that record 1761 01:37:18,160 --> 01:37:18,559 Speaker 2: mean to you? 1762 01:37:20,920 --> 01:37:23,519 Speaker 8: Kind of along though, the same line as the last 1763 01:37:23,560 --> 01:37:27,880 Speaker 8: time we chatted, I actually didn't really know where I fell, 1764 01:37:28,320 --> 01:37:32,519 Speaker 8: like in the order of things, just because it's a 1765 01:37:32,520 --> 01:37:35,800 Speaker 8: bit confusing with all the different kind of leagues and 1766 01:37:35,840 --> 01:37:38,559 Speaker 8: the different franchises moving to different cities and. 1767 01:37:38,479 --> 01:37:39,160 Speaker 6: Stuff like that. 1768 01:37:39,360 --> 01:37:43,519 Speaker 8: But Rudy actually kind of told me last week that 1769 01:37:43,600 --> 01:37:45,120 Speaker 8: I was two back, and I was able to get 1770 01:37:45,120 --> 01:37:46,559 Speaker 8: a point this past weekend, so. 1771 01:37:48,200 --> 01:37:49,160 Speaker 6: Now it's one back. 1772 01:37:49,240 --> 01:37:53,360 Speaker 8: But no, it's I mean, another kind of awesome milestone 1773 01:37:53,680 --> 01:37:56,759 Speaker 8: to look back on and kind of, you know, reflect 1774 01:37:56,800 --> 01:37:59,240 Speaker 8: on an awesome career here in Cincy and the place 1775 01:37:59,280 --> 01:38:01,519 Speaker 8: that I've spent the majority of my time and you know, 1776 01:38:01,520 --> 01:38:05,400 Speaker 8: all placed obviously that will probably be home for the 1777 01:38:05,439 --> 01:38:08,800 Speaker 8: remainder of my career for sure. And probably well on 1778 01:38:08,880 --> 01:38:10,280 Speaker 8: into my kids future. 1779 01:38:12,280 --> 01:38:16,200 Speaker 2: You joined me, as I mentioned when you became, you know, 1780 01:38:15,920 --> 01:38:19,200 Speaker 2: you played in your five hundredth game and there was 1781 01:38:19,240 --> 01:38:22,200 Speaker 2: a very brief workstoppage in the EHL, And I've been 1782 01:38:22,200 --> 01:38:24,600 Speaker 2: thinking a lot about the schedule, so I want you 1783 01:38:24,640 --> 01:38:26,640 Speaker 2: to kind of take me into inside this weekend. So 1784 01:38:26,720 --> 01:38:29,080 Speaker 2: you guys play a game match, you play a game 1785 01:38:29,080 --> 01:38:31,479 Speaker 2: on Friday at Fort Wayne. You're then going to come 1786 01:38:31,479 --> 01:38:34,080 Speaker 2: back and play the Cincinnati three Ways night on Saturday. 1787 01:38:34,160 --> 01:38:36,240 Speaker 2: Then you'll have a day game at three o'clock game, 1788 01:38:36,240 --> 01:38:39,840 Speaker 2: but a day game against Kalamazoo on Sunday. What are 1789 01:38:39,880 --> 01:38:43,200 Speaker 2: these weekends like when you're playing three games in two 1790 01:38:43,280 --> 01:38:48,360 Speaker 2: cities in less than forty eight hours. 1791 01:38:48,400 --> 01:38:53,080 Speaker 8: The easy answer probably just a blur, you know, And 1792 01:38:53,160 --> 01:38:56,960 Speaker 8: I mean with the game last night too. When you 1793 01:38:57,000 --> 01:39:01,120 Speaker 8: play on a Wednesday at really adds a wrinkle to 1794 01:39:01,160 --> 01:39:03,320 Speaker 8: the week because usually you can kind of rest up 1795 01:39:03,360 --> 01:39:06,919 Speaker 8: and gear up kind of like a full week to prepare. 1796 01:39:07,640 --> 01:39:10,160 Speaker 8: When you play Wednesday, it's kind of it's just it's 1797 01:39:10,200 --> 01:39:13,519 Speaker 8: a lot of balance. You know, guys played last night 1798 01:39:13,640 --> 01:39:17,080 Speaker 8: and then today's more of like an optional recovery day, 1799 01:39:17,200 --> 01:39:20,360 Speaker 8: and then you know you're in four Wayne Friday, get 1800 01:39:20,400 --> 01:39:24,679 Speaker 8: back late two three a m. Saturday, turn around play 1801 01:39:24,760 --> 01:39:28,400 Speaker 8: Saturday night, and then the Sunday one that is usually 1802 01:39:28,479 --> 01:39:32,320 Speaker 8: the one where you know, the word the blur comes 1803 01:39:32,360 --> 01:39:37,080 Speaker 8: into it, saying, oh, you're kind of sleep deprived, you're sore, 1804 01:39:36,920 --> 01:39:40,200 Speaker 8: you know, obviously tired, and but at the same time, 1805 01:39:40,240 --> 01:39:41,960 Speaker 8: it's you know, those are the games at the end 1806 01:39:42,000 --> 01:39:43,800 Speaker 8: of the year that you know, if you miss the 1807 01:39:43,800 --> 01:39:46,600 Speaker 8: playoffs by two, four, six points, whatever it is, you 1808 01:39:46,600 --> 01:39:48,880 Speaker 8: know you kind of look back to those those kind 1809 01:39:48,880 --> 01:39:51,559 Speaker 8: of sleepy Sunday games where you're like, oh, man, I 1810 01:39:51,640 --> 01:39:53,840 Speaker 8: really you know, I wish we brought it a little 1811 01:39:53,880 --> 01:39:55,840 Speaker 8: more on that Sunday. We could have stolen one here 1812 01:39:55,960 --> 01:39:58,000 Speaker 8: or there. And you know, it's the difference at the end. 1813 01:39:57,960 --> 01:40:01,240 Speaker 2: Of the year is for the young guys who are 1814 01:40:01,280 --> 01:40:03,960 Speaker 2: just getting their first taste of pro hockey, Is this 1815 01:40:04,040 --> 01:40:06,000 Speaker 2: the time of year that can be most difficult where 1816 01:40:06,040 --> 01:40:08,800 Speaker 2: you guys have been added for months and yet that 1817 01:40:08,880 --> 01:40:10,920 Speaker 2: light at the end of the tunnel is still way 1818 01:40:10,920 --> 01:40:13,200 Speaker 2: in the distance. Is this is this the hardest time 1819 01:40:13,200 --> 01:40:15,719 Speaker 2: of year to make the adjustment for those young guys 1820 01:40:15,720 --> 01:40:18,600 Speaker 2: just getting used to pro hockey. In the schedule, one 1821 01:40:18,720 --> 01:40:19,240 Speaker 2: hundred percent. 1822 01:40:19,520 --> 01:40:23,479 Speaker 8: I say every year, like the dog days between kind 1823 01:40:23,479 --> 01:40:28,479 Speaker 8: of mid February to mid March are also, I say, 1824 01:40:28,560 --> 01:40:30,639 Speaker 8: is kind of when seasons are you know, a lot 1825 01:40:30,680 --> 01:40:34,760 Speaker 8: of times one or loss. You know, you're sometimes you're 1826 01:40:34,760 --> 01:40:37,280 Speaker 8: a few points in kind of with teams chasing you, 1827 01:40:37,479 --> 01:40:40,519 Speaker 8: or you're a few points out team like you're trying 1828 01:40:40,560 --> 01:40:43,320 Speaker 8: to chase teams. So it's kind of that really kind 1829 01:40:43,320 --> 01:40:46,080 Speaker 8: of moving in the standing time. But also a lot 1830 01:40:46,120 --> 01:40:48,439 Speaker 8: of these guys played college hockey, so they're you know, 1831 01:40:48,439 --> 01:40:52,320 Speaker 8: they only played thirty five forty games max, and we 1832 01:40:52,680 --> 01:40:54,639 Speaker 8: just kind of hit that mark a few weeks ago, 1833 01:40:54,760 --> 01:40:58,919 Speaker 8: so they're not really been used to playing this many games. 1834 01:40:59,000 --> 01:41:01,240 Speaker 8: So that's definitely the biggest adjustment too. 1835 01:41:02,520 --> 01:41:04,759 Speaker 2: How much Olympic hockey did you get to watch? 1836 01:41:07,640 --> 01:41:08,120 Speaker 6: Quite a bit? 1837 01:41:08,240 --> 01:41:12,880 Speaker 8: Actually, I watched basically all the knockout round and then 1838 01:41:13,040 --> 01:41:15,479 Speaker 8: I was able to watch the majority of the US 1839 01:41:15,479 --> 01:41:18,560 Speaker 8: and Canada's all their round robin games. 1840 01:41:19,479 --> 01:41:22,519 Speaker 2: Are you able to watch those games purely for enjoyment 1841 01:41:22,560 --> 01:41:25,719 Speaker 2: as a fan or you like, are you putting yourself 1842 01:41:25,760 --> 01:41:28,040 Speaker 2: on the ice? Are you watching it like a coach? Like? 1843 01:41:28,080 --> 01:41:29,360 Speaker 2: How do you consume those games? 1844 01:41:31,040 --> 01:41:36,040 Speaker 8: I would say a little bit of kind of comparing, contrasting, 1845 01:41:36,120 --> 01:41:37,360 Speaker 8: kind of studying, taking some. 1846 01:41:37,360 --> 01:41:38,080 Speaker 6: Notes or whatever. 1847 01:41:38,160 --> 01:41:41,160 Speaker 8: But for the most part, a lot is for enjoyment. 1848 01:41:41,680 --> 01:41:41,880 Speaker 6: You know. 1849 01:41:41,960 --> 01:41:46,240 Speaker 8: It's such a kind of rare thing nowadays with them 1850 01:41:46,280 --> 01:41:48,360 Speaker 8: not going to a few Olympics and stuff. It's just 1851 01:41:48,439 --> 01:41:50,759 Speaker 8: kind of the ability to sit back and see best 1852 01:41:50,800 --> 01:41:54,120 Speaker 8: on best is just so cool and just so fun 1853 01:41:54,160 --> 01:41:57,519 Speaker 8: for obviously people that have grown up loving hockey, like 1854 01:41:57,800 --> 01:42:01,640 Speaker 8: most Canadians, so it's really cool thing just to be 1855 01:42:01,640 --> 01:42:03,120 Speaker 8: able to sit there and watch. I guess I'm a 1856 01:42:03,160 --> 01:42:06,200 Speaker 8: little new unique since I'm a dual citizen, so I'm 1857 01:42:06,280 --> 01:42:09,160 Speaker 8: kind of neutral when it came to the gold medal game. 1858 01:42:09,240 --> 01:42:14,759 Speaker 2: But yeah, so you had no rooting interest on Sunday morning. 1859 01:42:16,479 --> 01:42:22,000 Speaker 8: Ah, Honestly, like so many people ask me, I now, officially, 1860 01:42:22,040 --> 01:42:25,839 Speaker 8: I think spent exactly half my life in both country, 1861 01:42:26,479 --> 01:42:29,679 Speaker 8: so right, I mean, And so that's kind. 1862 01:42:29,520 --> 01:42:30,519 Speaker 6: Of a toss up. 1863 01:42:30,560 --> 01:42:34,360 Speaker 8: I guess technically, since I've played for Team USA in 1864 01:42:34,400 --> 01:42:38,559 Speaker 8: the Junior World Championships and stuff like that, I leaned 1865 01:42:38,600 --> 01:42:42,200 Speaker 8: towards the US when it comes internationally, but not by much. 1866 01:42:43,640 --> 01:42:47,200 Speaker 2: What can an event like that, because I don't care 1867 01:42:47,280 --> 01:42:49,680 Speaker 2: which country you were rooting for obviously here we were 1868 01:42:49,760 --> 01:42:51,719 Speaker 2: rooting for the United States. It was just an awesome 1869 01:42:51,760 --> 01:42:54,880 Speaker 2: sporting event, right, it was. It was great hockey. Folks 1870 01:42:54,920 --> 01:42:57,320 Speaker 2: who typically don't watch a lot of hockey were like 1871 01:42:57,439 --> 01:43:00,880 Speaker 2: completely invested. Can what can the game like that? What 1872 01:43:00,960 --> 01:43:03,519 Speaker 2: can an event like that won by the United States? 1873 01:43:03,600 --> 01:43:05,400 Speaker 2: What can that mean for hockey in this country? 1874 01:43:07,080 --> 01:43:07,240 Speaker 6: Oh? 1875 01:43:07,920 --> 01:43:11,280 Speaker 8: I mean it's massive, Like just I would say, with 1876 01:43:11,760 --> 01:43:14,400 Speaker 8: the women doing what they did through the tournament and 1877 01:43:14,800 --> 01:43:19,280 Speaker 8: just dismantling basically every team they played, and then the 1878 01:43:19,360 --> 01:43:22,960 Speaker 8: men come up and you know, some tougher, hard fought games, 1879 01:43:23,000 --> 01:43:25,080 Speaker 8: but at the end of the day they also bring 1880 01:43:25,120 --> 01:43:27,360 Speaker 8: a gold back. It's like I feel like anytime I 1881 01:43:27,439 --> 01:43:29,360 Speaker 8: picked my phone up or turn on the TV for 1882 01:43:29,439 --> 01:43:33,479 Speaker 8: the last week, it's something about the gold medal hockey 1883 01:43:33,560 --> 01:43:37,240 Speaker 8: teams and just the US is so massive and so 1884 01:43:37,439 --> 01:43:40,680 Speaker 8: many kids watching all that stuff that. I mean, it 1885 01:43:40,800 --> 01:43:44,000 Speaker 8: kind of that's how Canada got as big as they 1886 01:43:44,000 --> 01:43:46,519 Speaker 8: are with hockey. Is you know, growing up, it was 1887 01:43:46,600 --> 01:43:50,519 Speaker 8: just every four years and it's gonna win gold. They're 1888 01:43:50,520 --> 01:43:52,439 Speaker 8: gonna have a good shot at it, whatever it is. 1889 01:43:52,479 --> 01:43:55,040 Speaker 8: It's just that's how you kind of grow up and 1890 01:43:55,080 --> 01:43:58,000 Speaker 8: you know, hopefully a lot of kids were watching those games, 1891 01:43:58,040 --> 01:44:00,360 Speaker 8: and you know, stick with it, and you know, hockey 1892 01:44:00,439 --> 01:44:03,559 Speaker 8: just continues to grow and produce more and more talent, 1893 01:44:03,680 --> 01:44:06,080 Speaker 8: and you know, the game just keeps getting better and better. 1894 01:44:07,400 --> 01:44:10,520 Speaker 2: You're a Miami University guy, do you follow the basketball 1895 01:44:10,560 --> 01:44:11,040 Speaker 2: team at all? 1896 01:44:13,680 --> 01:44:18,479 Speaker 8: I got to come clean. This Reds Padres 1968 01:48:14,800 --> 01:48:17,040 Speaker 2: game is like never gonna end. During the bottom of 1969 01:48:17,040 --> 01:48:19,160 Speaker 2: the seventh inning by them. Sure the players are delighted. 1970 01:48:19,520 --> 01:48:22,679 Speaker 2: It's ten to nine, the Reds lead. Here's the good 1971 01:48:22,720 --> 01:48:25,800 Speaker 2: stuff that happened in this game. Ellie deler Cruz had 1972 01:48:25,800 --> 01:48:27,320 Speaker 2: a double and a triple and he drove in a 1973 01:48:27,320 --> 01:48:30,280 Speaker 2: couple of runs. Spencer Steer reached base three times and 1974 01:48:30,520 --> 01:48:36,759 Speaker 2: scored twice. What else? Noelve Marte drove in three runs. 1975 01:48:37,080 --> 01:48:41,680 Speaker 2: Tyler Callahan hit a home run, Will Banfield cleared the 1976 01:48:41,720 --> 01:48:44,120 Speaker 2: bases with a double. Chase Burns went two and a 1977 01:48:44,160 --> 01:48:45,920 Speaker 2: third and gave up a run, struck out five. Here's 1978 01:48:45,960 --> 01:48:52,080 Speaker 2: the bad. Nick Sando, whose work I'm not all that 1979 01:48:52,200 --> 01:48:55,240 Speaker 2: familiar with, gave up two runs in two thirds of 1980 01:48:55,280 --> 01:48:58,879 Speaker 2: an inning. He was one of the nasty boys compared 1981 01:48:58,880 --> 01:49:02,599 Speaker 2: to Graham Ashcraft, who gave up six runs, all earned, 1982 01:49:02,720 --> 01:49:05,680 Speaker 2: in one third of an inning. But the Reds do 1983 01:49:05,800 --> 01:49:07,800 Speaker 2: lead the game ten to nine as they bat in 1984 01:49:07,840 --> 01:49:10,040 Speaker 2: the bottom of the seventh inning. What else do we 1985 01:49:10,040 --> 01:49:12,559 Speaker 2: have for sports headlines? Got Blue Jackets are back in 1986 01:49:12,600 --> 01:49:16,959 Speaker 2: action tonight in Boston. Coming off the Olympic break. Columbus 1987 01:49:17,000 --> 01:49:20,400 Speaker 2: had won ten out of eleven before everybody in the 1988 01:49:20,479 --> 01:49:22,639 Speaker 2: NHL had to take a break. We were talking before 1989 01:49:22,640 --> 01:49:26,639 Speaker 2: about the Steelers poor ranking in the NFLPA report cards, 1990 01:49:26,680 --> 01:49:29,760 Speaker 2: which they've not publicized but which have leaked. Here are 1991 01:49:29,800 --> 01:49:34,720 Speaker 2: the grades the NFLPA grades the Bengals have gotten. I 1992 01:49:34,720 --> 01:49:38,479 Speaker 2: got this off the Twitter feed of Andrew fox Miller, 1993 01:49:38,520 --> 01:49:41,760 Speaker 2: who does a great job with James Rapine on Cincinnati 1994 01:49:41,800 --> 01:49:44,720 Speaker 2: Bengals talk. All right, here we go, I'll run them 1995 01:49:44,720 --> 01:49:46,439 Speaker 2: down for you, and I'm just I'm reading them in 1996 01:49:46,600 --> 01:49:54,439 Speaker 2: order that they're listed here. Treatment of families F minus 1997 01:49:54,680 --> 01:50:01,400 Speaker 2: home game field D minus. Food and dining area F minus. 1998 01:50:01,840 --> 01:50:07,080 Speaker 2: How bad must that be? There are? And I'm not 1999 01:50:07,120 --> 01:50:10,440 Speaker 2: going to mention what they are. There are two national 2000 01:50:10,520 --> 01:50:14,600 Speaker 2: chain restaurants that I will not eat at. One that 2001 01:50:14,680 --> 01:50:17,479 Speaker 2: I haven't eaten at in twenty nine years. The other 2002 01:50:17,640 --> 01:50:20,760 Speaker 2: I haven't eaten at in maybe like twenty one, twenty two, 2003 01:50:20,800 --> 01:50:25,639 Speaker 2: twenty three years. I will not eat at now. If 2004 01:50:25,680 --> 01:50:28,760 Speaker 2: I was forced to, I would. I don't know why 2005 01:50:28,800 --> 01:50:31,840 Speaker 2: I would be forced to. But as bad as they are, 2006 01:50:32,320 --> 01:50:35,880 Speaker 2: and I'm not gonna mention them, don't ask, I still 2007 01:50:35,960 --> 01:50:42,040 Speaker 2: wouldn't give them F minuses. Like F minuses, if you 2008 01:50:42,120 --> 01:50:44,439 Speaker 2: eat the food, it's gonna kill you food, and it's 2009 01:50:44,560 --> 01:50:46,840 Speaker 2: food and dining areas, so maybe it's not just like 2010 01:50:46,960 --> 01:50:50,240 Speaker 2: the taste of the food. F minus nutrition is dietitian 2011 01:50:50,520 --> 01:50:56,439 Speaker 2: F Locker room A minus training room A minus training 2012 01:50:56,520 --> 01:51:01,640 Speaker 2: staff A minus weight room A minus strength coaches A 2013 01:51:02,760 --> 01:51:08,680 Speaker 2: position coaches B minus. Offensive coordinator A minus not insignificant, 2014 01:51:09,080 --> 01:51:14,000 Speaker 2: defensive coordinator B plus not insignificant. Special teams coordinator B 2015 01:51:14,120 --> 01:51:19,840 Speaker 2: plus team travel C minus head coach not insignificant, A 2016 01:51:20,080 --> 01:51:27,519 Speaker 2: minus general manager C team ownership D plus team ownership 2017 01:51:27,600 --> 01:51:30,320 Speaker 2: is Andrew points out in his tweet was a C 2018 01:51:30,800 --> 01:51:33,960 Speaker 2: in last year's grade, and this year it's a D plus. 2019 01:51:35,040 --> 01:51:42,120 Speaker 2: So some good and some awful for the Bengals, but 2020 01:51:42,320 --> 01:51:46,400 Speaker 2: the Steelers were worse. So we have that Bengals got 2021 01:51:46,439 --> 01:51:51,960 Speaker 2: a better NFLPA report guard than the Steelers. Uh what 2022 01:51:52,080 --> 01:51:54,519 Speaker 2: do we have? Five point three seven four nine fifteen thirty. 2023 01:51:54,560 --> 01:51:56,840 Speaker 2: I guess I mentioned before he was waiting on hold. 2024 01:51:56,880 --> 01:51:59,760 Speaker 2: It would be rather mean of me than not take 2025 01:51:59,800 --> 01:52:00,439 Speaker 2: a phone call. 2026 01:52:00,520 --> 01:52:00,680 Speaker 5: Mike. 2027 01:52:00,720 --> 01:52:02,479 Speaker 2: Go ahead, You're on ESPM fifteen thirty. 2028 01:52:04,640 --> 01:52:04,920 Speaker 6: Thanks. 2029 01:52:04,960 --> 01:52:06,400 Speaker 15: I got a little nosebleed now. 2030 01:52:06,439 --> 01:52:08,280 Speaker 16: It kind of breaks me out a little bit. 2031 01:52:10,880 --> 01:52:13,839 Speaker 6: Uh, anyway, do you think. 2032 01:52:13,720 --> 01:52:15,599 Speaker 2: It would be prudent to go ahead and then you're 2033 01:52:15,800 --> 01:52:17,679 Speaker 2: You're welcome? But do you think it would be prudent 2034 01:52:17,800 --> 01:52:21,880 Speaker 2: to address the nosebleed instead of talking about sports on 2035 01:52:21,880 --> 01:52:22,280 Speaker 2: the radio? 2036 01:52:23,439 --> 01:52:25,000 Speaker 16: Yeah, it can wait for a few minutes. 2037 01:52:25,760 --> 01:52:29,360 Speaker 6: Okay, listen, cowboy, after what I've done through. 2038 01:52:30,760 --> 01:52:33,439 Speaker 2: Nosebleed is no big deal. I understand, I understand. 2039 01:52:34,120 --> 01:52:36,280 Speaker 16: Hey, you know what, you know what I'm really excited 2040 01:52:36,280 --> 01:52:38,439 Speaker 16: about is Jolly Bono being on MBC. 2041 01:52:38,720 --> 01:52:43,720 Speaker 15: I'm so excited. I'm with you last like nobody ever. 2042 01:52:44,920 --> 01:52:47,519 Speaker 2: I think he's going to be awesome. You know his 2043 01:52:48,640 --> 01:52:50,960 Speaker 2: I guess what's second to last year with the Reds. 2044 01:52:51,360 --> 01:52:53,360 Speaker 2: Maybe last, maybe it wasn't his last year, but have 2045 01:52:53,400 --> 01:52:55,120 Speaker 2: been his whatever. Toward the end of his career with 2046 01:52:55,160 --> 01:52:57,639 Speaker 2: the Reds when he wasn't healthy and he spent time 2047 01:52:57,680 --> 01:53:00,760 Speaker 2: in the booth doing mainly TV, but there was one 2048 01:53:00,880 --> 01:53:04,600 Speaker 2: memorable game where he did radio. He was terrific. And 2049 01:53:05,800 --> 01:53:09,800 Speaker 2: I think with Joey you get humor. Although I'm sure 2050 01:53:09,840 --> 01:53:12,280 Speaker 2: they're gonna be viewers who don't get his brand of humor, 2051 01:53:12,320 --> 01:53:16,360 Speaker 2: but there's gonna be humor. I think few players of 2052 01:53:16,520 --> 01:53:22,280 Speaker 2: Joey's generation are as thoughtful and are as dedicated to 2053 01:53:22,320 --> 01:53:24,800 Speaker 2: their craft. Like this strikes me. If Joey Vado is 2054 01:53:24,800 --> 01:53:26,960 Speaker 2: going to do something, he's really gonna work at it. 2055 01:53:27,080 --> 01:53:29,519 Speaker 2: You and I both know that there are former players 2056 01:53:30,040 --> 01:53:31,840 Speaker 2: who have gone into the booth and you could tell 2057 01:53:31,960 --> 01:53:34,559 Speaker 2: like they really don't work at it. You get the sense, 2058 01:53:34,640 --> 01:53:37,479 Speaker 2: I get the sense at least that Joey is is 2059 01:53:37,640 --> 01:53:40,519 Speaker 2: really gonna work at his craft. He's gonna work really hard, 2060 01:53:41,400 --> 01:53:43,160 Speaker 2: and he's going to bring to the table all the 2061 01:53:43,240 --> 01:53:45,800 Speaker 2: things that we saw certainly over the second half of 2062 01:53:45,840 --> 01:53:50,280 Speaker 2: his career, his personality, his willingness to analyze and dissect. 2063 01:53:50,680 --> 01:53:53,599 Speaker 2: He's obviously going to bring a former player's perspective who 2064 01:53:53,640 --> 01:53:57,599 Speaker 2: played across a long stretch of time. I'm with you, Mike. 2065 01:53:57,840 --> 01:54:01,160 Speaker 2: I think Joey Vada doing games is going to be terrific. 2066 01:54:02,439 --> 01:54:03,320 Speaker 15: Yeah, I can't wait. 2067 01:54:04,000 --> 01:54:04,160 Speaker 4: Do you? 2068 01:54:04,360 --> 01:54:04,479 Speaker 2: Uh? 2069 01:54:05,560 --> 01:54:08,120 Speaker 16: Did you have you heard any inkling to the Alex 2070 01:54:08,200 --> 01:54:09,559 Speaker 16: Pierce going to the Steelers? 2071 01:54:11,600 --> 01:54:11,720 Speaker 8: Uh? 2072 01:54:12,160 --> 01:54:14,360 Speaker 2: I think Alec Peerce is going to have a whole 2073 01:54:14,400 --> 01:54:16,800 Speaker 2: lot of suitors. I haven't. I don't know that I've seen. 2074 01:54:17,080 --> 01:54:19,320 Speaker 2: If I've seen Alec Pierce and the Steelers, it hasn't 2075 01:54:19,360 --> 01:54:23,080 Speaker 2: necessarily stood out to me. I think Alec Pierce. I 2076 01:54:23,120 --> 01:54:24,840 Speaker 2: mean right now, one of the things they're wondering in 2077 01:54:24,880 --> 01:54:27,400 Speaker 2: Indianapolis is like, can they really afford to let him walk? 2078 01:54:27,640 --> 01:54:30,439 Speaker 2: If they do, there's probably a lot of teams interested 2079 01:54:30,479 --> 01:54:31,160 Speaker 2: in Alec Peers. 2080 01:54:32,480 --> 01:54:34,120 Speaker 15: Yeah, that I think he's foolish. 2081 01:54:34,160 --> 01:54:35,600 Speaker 16: So I love that guy, don't you. 2082 01:54:37,240 --> 01:54:37,280 Speaker 8: Have? 2083 01:54:37,440 --> 01:54:41,160 Speaker 2: Since he was in school? Yeah, I mean, look back 2084 01:54:41,200 --> 01:54:43,400 Speaker 2: to back years. Has led the league in yards per reception, 2085 01:54:44,200 --> 01:54:46,360 Speaker 2: which you know, if you watched him at you see Mike, 2086 01:54:46,600 --> 01:54:49,120 Speaker 2: you always knew he could go catch the deep ball, 2087 01:54:49,320 --> 01:54:52,520 Speaker 2: like he was kind of the deep ball specialist. And 2088 01:54:52,600 --> 01:54:55,800 Speaker 2: then in his last season you saw him run you know, 2089 01:54:56,160 --> 01:54:58,320 Speaker 2: every route on the tree as they say, like he 2090 01:54:58,520 --> 01:55:02,200 Speaker 2: just he expanded what he could do. But his deep 2091 01:55:02,280 --> 01:55:06,200 Speaker 2: threat playmaking ability, which team in the league wouldn't want 2092 01:55:06,240 --> 01:55:09,400 Speaker 2: that had over twenty one yards per reception last year. 2093 01:55:09,920 --> 01:55:12,000 Speaker 2: He can run streak routes, He can run a lot 2094 01:55:12,000 --> 01:55:14,360 Speaker 2: of different types of routes. Alec Pearce is going to 2095 01:55:14,400 --> 01:55:16,200 Speaker 2: make a lot of money this offseason. 2096 01:55:17,280 --> 01:55:19,800 Speaker 15: I hope so, because he just seems like such a 2097 01:55:19,840 --> 01:55:21,880 Speaker 15: good kid or a young man, not a kid. 2098 01:55:22,960 --> 01:55:27,880 Speaker 16: And how about how about what well Bruno Marsh I'm sorry, 2099 01:55:28,000 --> 01:55:31,160 Speaker 16: I I'm just I know the guy's a great talent, 2100 01:55:31,240 --> 01:55:33,280 Speaker 16: and every day I'm just not down with Bruno Mars. 2101 01:55:34,040 --> 01:55:37,520 Speaker 15: I'd rather hear Sly in the family stone myself. But anyway, 2102 01:55:37,680 --> 01:55:43,040 Speaker 15: that's a different genre. But how about those Florida Gators 2103 01:55:43,160 --> 01:55:45,800 Speaker 15: eight in a row on the road in Texas where 2104 01:55:46,000 --> 01:55:48,040 Speaker 15: this team is dangerous? 2105 01:55:48,200 --> 01:55:52,800 Speaker 2: Moll awesome, They're awesome. Yeah, they're they're they're peaking at 2106 01:55:52,960 --> 01:55:56,680 Speaker 2: at precisely the right time, top thirteen in both offensive 2107 01:55:56,800 --> 01:56:00,680 Speaker 2: and defensive efficiency. That they haven't lost since one of 2108 01:56:00,720 --> 01:56:03,000 Speaker 2: the more puzzling losses of the season. They've they've actually 2109 01:56:03,040 --> 01:56:05,480 Speaker 2: got a couple. They lost to Auburn, and I was 2110 01:56:05,560 --> 01:56:07,680 Speaker 2: thinking about them today because you ceased to last to 2111 01:56:07,720 --> 01:56:10,480 Speaker 2: play TCU. That's a TCU team that has some head 2112 01:56:10,520 --> 01:56:14,120 Speaker 2: scratching losses. TCU got Florida at the right time because 2113 01:56:14,120 --> 01:56:18,080 Speaker 2: it was Thanksgiving. But TCU beat Florida. Since then, they've 2114 01:56:18,160 --> 01:56:21,040 Speaker 2: taken care of business against Alabama, they have beaten Kentucky, 2115 01:56:21,120 --> 01:56:26,520 Speaker 2: they've beaten Georgia, beat Texas last night. Running away with 2116 01:56:26,560 --> 01:56:32,080 Speaker 2: the SEC.
