A bye 18 00:01:04,640 --> 00:01:07,360 Speaker 4: week for Cincinnati, a bye week for the Bearcats, a 19 00:01:07,440 --> 00:01:10,800 Speaker 4: bye week for the Bengals, Yet no shortage of things 20 00:01:10,800 --> 00:01:13,959 Speaker 4: to discuss over the course of the next two hours 21 00:01:14,000 --> 00:01:17,600 Speaker 4: and forty six minutes. You just heard Joe Burrow live 22 00:01:17,800 --> 00:01:21,319 Speaker 4: on ESPN fifteen thirty chatting with the media down there 23 00:01:21,360 --> 00:01:24,399 Speaker 4: at the avenue originally known as Paul Brown Stadium. On 24 00:01:24,520 --> 00:01:26,680 Speaker 4: the day we found out that he has been cleared 25 00:01:26,680 --> 00:01:31,320 Speaker 4: to return. He is practicing, though on a very limited scale. 26 00:01:31,840 --> 00:01:35,920 Speaker 4: So not a very busy weekend, but a newsworthy Monday 27 00:01:35,920 --> 00:01:37,479 Speaker 4: for the Bengals tone huge. 28 00:01:37,920 --> 00:01:40,040 Speaker 5: The only news of the weekend essentially were the Bearcats 29 00:01:40,040 --> 00:01:43,280 Speaker 5: one Friday night, an FC Cincinnati got rid of Columbus 30 00:01:43,640 --> 00:01:46,520 Speaker 5: on Saturday. And now we get this and you know 31 00:01:46,560 --> 00:01:48,680 Speaker 5: the interesting part is now the twenty one day window. 32 00:01:48,840 --> 00:01:49,000 Speaker 6: Yep. 33 00:01:49,320 --> 00:01:51,280 Speaker 5: I think when this happened, I think everyone was like, Okay, 34 00:01:51,280 --> 00:01:54,280 Speaker 5: Miami would be today, Circle circle Miami. If you're looking 35 00:01:54,280 --> 00:01:56,400 Speaker 5: at the twenty one day window, and then you follow 36 00:01:56,440 --> 00:01:59,200 Speaker 5: along with what Jake Glacier reported today, Now you're starting 37 00:01:59,200 --> 00:02:03,520 Speaker 5: to think of maybe even Thanksgiving against the Baltimore Ravens. 38 00:02:03,600 --> 00:02:06,160 Speaker 3: That's where my head is now. 39 00:02:06,320 --> 00:02:09,120 Speaker 4: The question is number one, when he plays, if he 40 00:02:09,200 --> 00:02:13,320 Speaker 4: plays against Baltimore on Thanksgiving, will he play defense? And 41 00:02:13,680 --> 00:02:16,720 Speaker 4: number two, can Flacco play defense? What will the Bengals 42 00:02:16,720 --> 00:02:19,440 Speaker 4: record be going into that game. Those to me, I. 43 00:02:19,480 --> 00:02:21,160 Speaker 6: Just I. 44 00:02:22,840 --> 00:02:25,200 Speaker 3: Don't know anything. I haven't been told anything. 45 00:02:25,400 --> 00:02:27,919 Speaker 4: I just I feel like this setting it this setting 46 00:02:27,960 --> 00:02:29,720 Speaker 4: itself up, and I can be dead wrong about this. 47 00:02:30,040 --> 00:02:32,560 Speaker 4: I feel like this is setting itself up for Joe 48 00:02:32,639 --> 00:02:35,840 Speaker 4: Burrow to make his triumphant return in Baltimore on Thanksgiving night. 49 00:02:35,919 --> 00:02:37,680 Speaker 7: Are they playing for anything in the playoffs? Is the 50 00:02:37,680 --> 00:02:38,160 Speaker 7: main question. 51 00:02:38,400 --> 00:02:42,440 Speaker 5: And it's been such a surreal day because every message 52 00:02:42,480 --> 00:02:46,160 Speaker 5: I've received has been why, like instead of the excitement, 53 00:02:46,280 --> 00:02:49,200 Speaker 5: because put the shoe on the other foot. They score 54 00:02:49,240 --> 00:02:51,200 Speaker 5: thirty eight and forty two. If they win both of those, 55 00:02:51,280 --> 00:02:53,560 Speaker 5: they're five and four, and then you get the shot 56 00:02:53,600 --> 00:02:55,000 Speaker 5: in the arm of this message today. 57 00:02:55,080 --> 00:02:56,520 Speaker 3: Yeah, it just feels. 58 00:02:56,280 --> 00:02:58,560 Speaker 5: Different at three and six, and you wonder how much 59 00:02:59,240 --> 00:03:01,520 Speaker 5: they have left in They've got to go to Pittsburgh 60 00:03:01,560 --> 00:03:04,079 Speaker 5: and find a way to win. Arguably the best team 61 00:03:04,120 --> 00:03:06,400 Speaker 5: in the AFC comes to your building after that in 62 00:03:06,480 --> 00:03:10,880 Speaker 5: New England Patriots. It's it's a little bit different how 63 00:03:10,919 --> 00:03:14,359 Speaker 5: I expected this news to go over based on the response. 64 00:03:14,040 --> 00:03:17,919 Speaker 4: You've heard, Well, I'll give you my reaction. Number one cool. 65 00:03:18,200 --> 00:03:22,200 Speaker 4: Number two that doesn't fix their problem now is say 66 00:03:22,200 --> 00:03:24,320 Speaker 4: what you want about how great Joe Flacco has been 67 00:03:24,360 --> 00:03:26,320 Speaker 4: and say what you want about how the offense will 68 00:03:26,360 --> 00:03:29,639 Speaker 4: have to adjust when Joe Burrow comes back whenever. 69 00:03:29,680 --> 00:03:30,080 Speaker 3: That is. 70 00:03:30,880 --> 00:03:32,760 Speaker 4: The Bengals problem in the last three weeks has not 71 00:03:32,800 --> 00:03:35,680 Speaker 4: been quarterback play. The Bengals offense over the last month 72 00:03:35,760 --> 00:03:39,520 Speaker 4: has been fine. Yeah, they're losing games in spite of 73 00:03:39,600 --> 00:03:41,840 Speaker 4: their offensive fireworks. 74 00:03:42,040 --> 00:03:44,520 Speaker 3: So my first thought was, that's cool. 75 00:03:44,600 --> 00:03:48,080 Speaker 4: If they were losing games during Joe's absence ten to seven. 76 00:03:48,200 --> 00:03:51,320 Speaker 5: If it was the ten Minnesota back to back weeks, yeah, 77 00:03:51,360 --> 00:03:54,680 Speaker 5: ten and three, Yeah, yes, need him right, Thirty eight 78 00:03:54,720 --> 00:03:55,640 Speaker 5: and forty two is different. 79 00:03:55,720 --> 00:03:58,640 Speaker 4: So sign me up for Joe Burrow inching closer to health. 80 00:03:58,840 --> 00:04:01,280 Speaker 4: Sign me up for a ten sign that you know what. 81 00:04:01,880 --> 00:04:05,040 Speaker 4: That window we talked about in mid December, now that's 82 00:04:05,200 --> 00:04:07,920 Speaker 4: very much in play, and even before we've talked about 83 00:04:07,960 --> 00:04:10,480 Speaker 4: like just get to the postseason and have him healthy. 84 00:04:10,640 --> 00:04:13,440 Speaker 4: Feels like he'll be healthy come postseason. Will the Bengals 85 00:04:13,480 --> 00:04:16,400 Speaker 4: be there? That's the question. But yeah, like my excitement 86 00:04:16,480 --> 00:04:20,640 Speaker 4: was muted because his return doesn't solve their biggest issue. 87 00:04:20,640 --> 00:04:23,080 Speaker 4: We have a lot of ground to cover between now 88 00:04:23,080 --> 00:04:25,320 Speaker 4: and six o'clock. We're here at Twin Peaks in Westchester. 89 00:04:25,640 --> 00:04:29,000 Speaker 4: In Florence next week. We'll worry about that next week, 90 00:04:29,440 --> 00:04:32,120 Speaker 4: day after the Bengals take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, right 91 00:04:32,160 --> 00:04:33,760 Speaker 4: off I seventy five, by the way. 92 00:04:34,240 --> 00:04:35,599 Speaker 3: As miserable as. 93 00:04:35,480 --> 00:04:38,719 Speaker 4: A weather morning and early afternoon as it was, it 94 00:04:38,839 --> 00:04:40,440 Speaker 4: is gorgeous out right now. Now. 95 00:04:40,440 --> 00:04:41,279 Speaker 3: It's cold. 96 00:04:41,440 --> 00:04:44,040 Speaker 4: The little snowfall we got, which this morning, you would 97 00:04:44,040 --> 00:04:45,880 Speaker 4: have thought we were getting twenty eight inches of snow. 98 00:04:46,800 --> 00:04:50,000 Speaker 4: The limited snow we got that that's not melting. It's 99 00:04:50,040 --> 00:04:53,599 Speaker 4: still cool. But the roads are fine, not covered in 100 00:04:53,680 --> 00:04:57,120 Speaker 4: snow suns out right off I seventy five Union Center 101 00:04:57,120 --> 00:04:59,760 Speaker 4: Boulevard exit. So Joe Burrow has returned to practice 124 00:06:17,480 --> 00:06:21,440 Speaker 4: limited capacity. Zach Taylor earlier today said they're not planning 125 00:06:21,440 --> 00:06:24,040 Speaker 4: on having him play on Sunday or anything like that. 126 00:06:24,480 --> 00:06:27,159 Speaker 4: But you talked about how most people that you have 127 00:06:27,279 --> 00:06:30,279 Speaker 4: seen react to this are kind of shrugging their shoulders. 128 00:06:30,440 --> 00:06:31,320 Speaker 4: You know, who is not. 129 00:06:33,080 --> 00:06:34,120 Speaker 7: Who Vegas? 130 00:06:34,440 --> 00:06:34,719 Speaker 6: WHOA? 131 00:06:35,360 --> 00:06:38,880 Speaker 4: So here are my show notes from this morning. Yeah, 132 00:06:38,920 --> 00:06:41,120 Speaker 4: because I was gonna start with what happened last night 133 00:06:41,120 --> 00:06:44,640 Speaker 4: between Pittsburgh and the Chargers. Bengals played the Steelers on Sunday. 134 00:06:45,160 --> 00:06:48,440 Speaker 4: There were the AFC North odds. This is as of 135 00:06:48,480 --> 00:06:52,839 Speaker 4: about ten thirty this morning. Baltimore the clear favorite minus 136 00:06:52,880 --> 00:06:58,080 Speaker 4: two seventy, Pittsburgh plus two seventy, Cincinnati plus seventeen hundred. 137 00:06:59,279 --> 00:07:02,760 Speaker 4: Right now Cincinnati is at plus eleven hundred. 138 00:07:03,240 --> 00:07:04,039 Speaker 7: That's significant. 139 00:07:04,120 --> 00:07:05,200 Speaker 3: It's significant movement. 140 00:07:05,320 --> 00:07:08,880 Speaker 5: That's a significant jump, and if they beat Pittsburgh that 141 00:07:09,040 --> 00:07:12,520 Speaker 5: number only goes up. You know it's it is the 142 00:07:12,640 --> 00:07:17,720 Speaker 5: Joe Burrow effect. But again, if this was the Minnesota 143 00:07:17,760 --> 00:07:20,600 Speaker 5: Denver game that had just happened, right, you would think, 144 00:07:20,880 --> 00:07:24,200 Speaker 5: Holy col thank you. It's an offense that put up 145 00:07:24,200 --> 00:07:26,480 Speaker 5: thirty eight and forty two in back to back losses. 146 00:07:27,200 --> 00:07:29,720 Speaker 5: And I genuine I think Joe Burrow is one of 147 00:07:29,720 --> 00:07:31,920 Speaker 5: the best quarterbacks on the planet. I don't think they 148 00:07:31,920 --> 00:07:33,200 Speaker 5: could have done any better than what they did the 149 00:07:33,280 --> 00:07:37,600 Speaker 5: last two games. Offensively hard to imagine. And knowing that, 150 00:07:38,000 --> 00:07:41,520 Speaker 5: again out of the buy, is there something they can 151 00:07:41,560 --> 00:07:44,080 Speaker 5: do better defensively that makes you or gives you hope 152 00:07:44,080 --> 00:07:47,960 Speaker 5: into what they can be until we see that it's awesome. 153 00:07:48,040 --> 00:07:51,640 Speaker 5: I think I think it speaks to the work ethic 154 00:07:51,640 --> 00:07:54,000 Speaker 5: of Joe Burrow, the teammate that Joe Burrow is, because 155 00:07:54,000 --> 00:07:57,160 Speaker 5: it would be very easy to watch what's transpired and 156 00:07:57,240 --> 00:07:59,240 Speaker 5: come out of a buy and like, ah, I'm not 157 00:07:59,280 --> 00:07:59,880 Speaker 5: gonna try it. 158 00:08:00,000 --> 00:08:00,880 Speaker 7: Sure, I don't want to. 159 00:08:00,920 --> 00:08:01,400 Speaker 3: I don't want to. 160 00:08:01,400 --> 00:08:03,560 Speaker 5: Push this too far. Not only is you want to 161 00:08:03,560 --> 00:08:05,840 Speaker 5: get back. He wants to get back in like shatter 162 00:08:05,960 --> 00:08:09,800 Speaker 5: rehab records. He wants to get back quicker than anyone thought. 163 00:08:10,600 --> 00:08:12,720 Speaker 5: And I think there's a point to that that that 164 00:08:12,800 --> 00:08:15,400 Speaker 5: he wants to make. But also at the same time, 165 00:08:16,880 --> 00:08:19,520 Speaker 5: you think about this guy's future as well, and you 166 00:08:19,560 --> 00:08:23,120 Speaker 5: think about the long term availability of Joe Burrow. And 167 00:08:23,160 --> 00:08:25,920 Speaker 5: that's why I just wonder how much the next two 168 00:08:25,960 --> 00:08:28,080 Speaker 5: weeks would play into this, Because I'm with you. 169 00:08:28,480 --> 00:08:29,480 Speaker 7: As soon as. 170 00:08:29,680 --> 00:08:31,800 Speaker 5: They asked him today about playing in Baltimore in your 171 00:08:31,800 --> 00:08:36,000 Speaker 5: AFC North and that rivalry, you knew by his answer 172 00:08:36,000 --> 00:08:37,120 Speaker 5: that's where he wants to get back. 173 00:08:37,200 --> 00:08:38,840 Speaker 4: That's two weeks from this third. 174 00:08:38,840 --> 00:08:42,200 Speaker 5: Day, that's where he wants to circle. I was surprised 175 00:08:42,240 --> 00:08:45,760 Speaker 5: watching the video today, like at cleats on what the 176 00:08:45,840 --> 00:08:46,720 Speaker 5: room was making throws. 177 00:08:46,840 --> 00:08:48,559 Speaker 4: He looked like a guy getting ready to go through 178 00:08:48,559 --> 00:08:49,200 Speaker 4: a full practice. 179 00:08:49,240 --> 00:08:49,600 Speaker 3: Correct. 180 00:08:50,080 --> 00:08:53,760 Speaker 5: So for me, obviously, I think the next two weeks 181 00:08:53,760 --> 00:08:57,600 Speaker 5: are meaningful. But if they drop the next two and 182 00:08:57,760 --> 00:09:01,520 Speaker 5: you're three and eight and your season is over, is 183 00:09:01,559 --> 00:09:03,800 Speaker 5: there a value behind an offensive line that I know 184 00:09:03,840 --> 00:09:07,280 Speaker 5: they've played better? But even with the toe, I don't 185 00:09:07,280 --> 00:09:09,160 Speaker 5: imagine Joe would come back and say, all right, let's 186 00:09:09,200 --> 00:09:11,719 Speaker 5: go under center. He would want to be comfortable with 187 00:09:11,800 --> 00:09:14,880 Speaker 5: a shotgun. I don't know that I'm confident enough in 188 00:09:14,880 --> 00:09:15,560 Speaker 5: the old line. 189 00:09:16,000 --> 00:09:16,360 Speaker 4: I don't know. 190 00:09:16,440 --> 00:09:19,640 Speaker 5: I'm surely not confident enough in the defense. So if 191 00:09:19,679 --> 00:09:22,000 Speaker 5: you if you don't win the next two, what's the point? 192 00:09:22,160 --> 00:09:27,120 Speaker 5: And I think that's the overall resounding sentiment from folks 193 00:09:27,160 --> 00:09:31,800 Speaker 5: that I've heard from today. Win the next two. Yeah, okay, 194 00:09:31,880 --> 00:09:34,960 Speaker 5: I'll listen right now. It's interesting. Had they won the 195 00:09:35,000 --> 00:09:39,080 Speaker 5: last two, I'm very interested right now, season back on. 196 00:09:39,240 --> 00:09:39,640 Speaker 7: Let's go. 197 00:09:40,559 --> 00:09:43,839 Speaker 5: I just I wonder how much of what happens in 198 00:09:43,880 --> 00:09:47,840 Speaker 5: the next two goes into determining what that date and 199 00:09:47,880 --> 00:09:48,800 Speaker 5: timeline could look like. 200 00:09:49,040 --> 00:09:51,800 Speaker 4: I think if Joe Burrow wants to play, he's gonna play. 201 00:09:51,960 --> 00:09:53,880 Speaker 4: I don't care if they're three and eight. I don't 202 00:09:53,880 --> 00:09:56,560 Speaker 4: care if he doesn't play against Baltimore and they lose 203 00:09:56,600 --> 00:09:59,320 Speaker 4: that one and they're three and nine, Like, I don't 204 00:09:59,320 --> 00:10:01,920 Speaker 4: think they have any who's gonna tell him no. I'm 205 00:10:01,960 --> 00:10:05,880 Speaker 4: of the belief that of Joe Burrow between let's say 206 00:10:05,920 --> 00:10:08,600 Speaker 4: Thanksgiving in the end of the season, regardless of where 207 00:10:08,640 --> 00:10:11,320 Speaker 4: they are in the standings, if he can physically go, 208 00:10:12,040 --> 00:10:16,319 Speaker 4: he's gonna go. Yes, let's talk about the game on Sunday. 209 00:10:16,320 --> 00:10:20,120 Speaker 4: Though this is not an overreaction to last night, but 210 00:10:20,280 --> 00:10:23,920 Speaker 4: last night, the Pittsburgh Steelers did nothing to make anybody 211 00:10:23,960 --> 00:10:27,400 Speaker 4: think that's a team worth taking seriously. In the AFC, 212 00:10:27,920 --> 00:10:32,800 Speaker 4: Aaron Rodgers played like he was my age, slow, inaccurate, 213 00:10:32,960 --> 00:10:34,559 Speaker 4: didn't have command of the offense. 214 00:10:35,400 --> 00:10:36,880 Speaker 3: Pittsburgh has now lost three. 215 00:10:36,760 --> 00:10:40,080 Speaker 4: Out of four, So all the things we have said 216 00:10:40,080 --> 00:10:43,520 Speaker 4: about the Bengals over the last month are valid. Defensively, 217 00:10:43,559 --> 00:10:46,840 Speaker 4: they're a train wreck. They're leaning way too heavily on 218 00:10:46,920 --> 00:10:49,439 Speaker 4: an old quarterback who just got here a month ago. 219 00:10:49,840 --> 00:10:53,080 Speaker 4: But coming off a bye against a team that you 220 00:10:53,120 --> 00:10:56,560 Speaker 4: have already beaten with an offense that is playing at 221 00:10:56,559 --> 00:10:59,559 Speaker 4: a really high level, Vegas is gonna say and they 222 00:10:59,600 --> 00:11:02,400 Speaker 4: have Cincinnati is a five and a half point dog. 223 00:11:03,000 --> 00:11:06,200 Speaker 4: I don't care. You're supposed to win this game on Sunday. 224 00:11:07,280 --> 00:11:10,880 Speaker 4: I mean again, we saw what happened the first time 225 00:11:10,920 --> 00:11:14,520 Speaker 4: they were here when Aaron Rodgers and Pat fryremouth exposed 226 00:11:14,600 --> 00:11:17,000 Speaker 4: became the latest to expose how bad the Bengals safety 227 00:11:17,040 --> 00:11:20,439 Speaker 4: play is. But I'm watching the last night, and I've 228 00:11:20,480 --> 00:11:23,880 Speaker 4: watched the Steelers over the course of the last five games, 229 00:11:23,920 --> 00:11:27,480 Speaker 4: and I go, They're not great. They're not imposing, they 230 00:11:27,480 --> 00:11:29,920 Speaker 4: don't physically beat you up the way you expected. Mike 231 00:11:29,960 --> 00:11:33,959 Speaker 4: Tomlin team too. The quarterback is old and ancient and 232 00:11:34,000 --> 00:11:36,520 Speaker 4: not playing at a high level. Joe Flaco may be 233 00:11:36,640 --> 00:11:38,360 Speaker 4: old and ancient, but he is playing at a really 234 00:11:38,440 --> 00:11:39,000 Speaker 4: high level. 235 00:11:39,920 --> 00:11:40,880 Speaker 3: That's a game. 236 00:11:40,720 --> 00:11:43,880 Speaker 4: On Sunday with your season hanging in the balance and 237 00:11:43,920 --> 00:11:48,000 Speaker 4: the carrot being dangled of number nine could come back 238 00:11:48,080 --> 00:11:51,400 Speaker 4: here soon and help you in the postseason. This is 239 00:11:51,440 --> 00:11:55,080 Speaker 4: a game on Sunday. You're supposed to win until you 240 00:11:55,160 --> 00:11:58,360 Speaker 4: realize that no changes were made to the Bengals defense 241 00:11:58,559 --> 00:11:59,960 Speaker 4: since they last played. 242 00:12:00,160 --> 00:12:02,440 Speaker 5: Hard part and Joe Goodburry put it out there on 243 00:12:02,440 --> 00:12:06,319 Speaker 5: social media day because I on since he three to 244 00:12:06,360 --> 00:12:10,079 Speaker 5: sixty today, I was looking for tangible things they could 245 00:12:10,320 --> 00:12:11,400 Speaker 5: correct in the second half. 246 00:12:12,320 --> 00:12:14,520 Speaker 7: What are actual attainable. 247 00:12:14,280 --> 00:12:16,240 Speaker 5: Goals that you can look to this defense and say, 248 00:12:16,320 --> 00:12:18,520 Speaker 5: how can they improve in the second half? And to me, 249 00:12:19,360 --> 00:12:21,960 Speaker 5: the biggest one figure out who you got going forward, 250 00:12:22,240 --> 00:12:25,120 Speaker 5: figure out which young players can play. Joe Goodberry tweeted 251 00:12:25,120 --> 00:12:28,200 Speaker 5: out though in weeks one through nine. Since twenty nineteen, 252 00:12:28,240 --> 00:12:31,440 Speaker 5: the Bengals have ranked thirty first in defense in EPA 253 00:12:31,520 --> 00:12:35,959 Speaker 5: per play. In twenty twenty one, weeks one through nine, 254 00:12:35,960 --> 00:12:38,760 Speaker 5: they were twenty ninth ranked defense in EPA per play. 255 00:12:39,080 --> 00:12:43,880 Speaker 5: Run defense was thirtieth under Zach Taylor weeks ten through eighteen. 256 00:12:43,960 --> 00:12:45,880 Speaker 5: Since twenty twenty one, it goes up to eighteenth and 257 00:12:45,920 --> 00:12:47,959 Speaker 5: EPA per play in sixteenth in run defense. 258 00:12:48,559 --> 00:12:50,440 Speaker 7: So under Zach Taylor, they. 259 00:12:50,320 --> 00:12:53,600 Speaker 5: Have improved coming out of this stretch in the regular 260 00:12:53,640 --> 00:12:56,640 Speaker 5: season to not be a terrible defense, but a middle 261 00:12:56,640 --> 00:12:59,400 Speaker 5: of the pack defense. Now, obviously that was under lu 262 00:12:59,360 --> 00:13:02,760 Speaker 5: An Arumo. He's not here, and we were also talking 263 00:13:02,800 --> 00:13:05,160 Speaker 5: about a bad defense. Right now we're talking about historically 264 00:13:05,200 --> 00:13:08,600 Speaker 5: one of the worst in the NFL history. So for me, 265 00:13:09,600 --> 00:13:12,160 Speaker 5: is there things they can learn over the by that 266 00:13:12,240 --> 00:13:14,560 Speaker 5: are tangible that they can put into. 267 00:13:14,840 --> 00:13:16,160 Speaker 7: To play, how to tackle. 268 00:13:16,600 --> 00:13:18,800 Speaker 5: And that's the thing, Like when you look at the 269 00:13:18,800 --> 00:13:21,040 Speaker 5: mistackle lists and see all these Bengal players on it, 270 00:13:21,520 --> 00:13:25,199 Speaker 5: if they just tackle better, that's tangible. Are there things 271 00:13:25,240 --> 00:13:29,400 Speaker 5: they can note that that they can find to get 272 00:13:29,400 --> 00:13:32,120 Speaker 5: an increase in production on first down or second down 273 00:13:32,200 --> 00:13:34,520 Speaker 5: or getting off the field on third down. That all 274 00:13:34,520 --> 00:13:37,720 Speaker 5: becomes much more interesting. If you're now talking with the 275 00:13:37,760 --> 00:13:40,160 Speaker 5: thought of Joe Burrow potentially being back in the future. 276 00:13:40,240 --> 00:13:42,320 Speaker 4: I guess for me, the tangible things would number one, 277 00:13:42,559 --> 00:13:44,160 Speaker 4: have Trey Hendrickson be on the field. 278 00:13:44,440 --> 00:13:46,760 Speaker 7: Doesn't sound good, right, Yeah, I. 279 00:13:46,720 --> 00:13:51,000 Speaker 4: Mean, you know, have your best defensive player on the field. 280 00:13:51,040 --> 00:13:53,240 Speaker 5: That would help, Yeah, which doesn't seem to be the 281 00:13:53,240 --> 00:13:54,520 Speaker 5: case from Zach Taylor today. 282 00:13:54,480 --> 00:13:57,480 Speaker 7: Yeah, he's still doubtful tackle yeah. 283 00:13:57,480 --> 00:14:00,160 Speaker 4: I mean is as stupid and as basic as and 284 00:14:00,280 --> 00:14:02,439 Speaker 4: sounds tackle. 285 00:14:02,600 --> 00:14:03,840 Speaker 6: Yeah. 286 00:14:03,880 --> 00:14:07,239 Speaker 4: And they're just gonna have to be better at getting turnovers. 287 00:14:08,320 --> 00:14:10,720 Speaker 5: Austin alluded to this a couple of weeks ago. It's 288 00:14:10,760 --> 00:14:15,480 Speaker 5: not this doesn't just stop at the players. You're evaluating 289 00:14:15,520 --> 00:14:18,160 Speaker 5: coaches now down the stretch as well. Of course, Montgomery 290 00:14:18,520 --> 00:14:21,840 Speaker 5: was bad in New England last year. He left along 291 00:14:21,880 --> 00:14:23,840 Speaker 5: with Peters. They're they're now one of the best teams 292 00:14:23,840 --> 00:14:24,520 Speaker 5: in the AFC. 293 00:14:25,160 --> 00:14:25,840 Speaker 3: Al Golden. 294 00:14:26,760 --> 00:14:29,640 Speaker 5: I talked about this with Austin all the time. Al Golden, 295 00:14:29,640 --> 00:14:32,960 Speaker 5: in the most meaningful play of Notre Dame season last year, 296 00:14:33,800 --> 00:14:35,280 Speaker 5: went one on one with Jeremia in. 297 00:14:35,280 --> 00:14:36,360 Speaker 6: The National championship game. 298 00:14:36,400 --> 00:14:39,880 Speaker 5: Yeah, at that point I remember talking to you, like, 299 00:14:40,840 --> 00:14:44,800 Speaker 5: are we sure we texted that night? Yeah, biggest player 300 00:14:44,800 --> 00:14:48,640 Speaker 5: of your season, national title. You went one on one 301 00:14:48,680 --> 00:14:50,920 Speaker 5: with the best player on the field who no one 302 00:14:50,920 --> 00:14:53,120 Speaker 5: can stop him one on one. So I need to 303 00:14:53,160 --> 00:14:55,560 Speaker 5: see more from Al Golden coming out of a bye 304 00:14:55,560 --> 00:14:57,280 Speaker 5: with the second half of the season still in front 305 00:14:57,320 --> 00:14:57,480 Speaker 5: of you. 306 00:14:57,560 --> 00:14:59,760 Speaker 7: So it's a lot to take in. 307 00:15:01,280 --> 00:15:03,240 Speaker 5: I hate going back because it would have been so 308 00:15:03,320 --> 00:15:05,080 Speaker 5: much sweeter to be five and four and say, man, 309 00:15:05,120 --> 00:15:06,880 Speaker 5: the defense stinks. But hey, they're five and four and 310 00:15:06,920 --> 00:15:10,520 Speaker 5: now Joe Burrows opened the twenty one day window. Unfortunately 311 00:15:10,560 --> 00:15:14,800 Speaker 5: you can't. You don't have Luayna Rumo. You got Al Golden. 312 00:15:15,120 --> 00:15:18,040 Speaker 5: You got a defense right now full of misfits. Trey 313 00:15:18,080 --> 00:15:21,160 Speaker 5: Hendrickson's health is a question. He's doubtful, not sure about 314 00:15:21,160 --> 00:15:21,920 Speaker 5: Shamar Stewart. 315 00:15:23,280 --> 00:15:27,920 Speaker 4: It's again the Alt Golden comparison. I will make is 316 00:15:27,960 --> 00:15:30,400 Speaker 4: to Mike Zimmer At the end of the two thousand 317 00:15:30,440 --> 00:15:32,120 Speaker 4: and eight season. That was the year where the Bengals 318 00:15:32,120 --> 00:15:35,640 Speaker 4: lost their first eight games. Ryan Fitzpatrick played I think 319 00:15:35,680 --> 00:15:38,160 Speaker 4: twelve of the sixteen games. Carson Palmer got hurt Week 320 00:15:38,160 --> 00:15:40,640 Speaker 4: three or four. By the end of the season last 321 00:15:40,720 --> 00:15:45,120 Speaker 4: year with a defense filled with guys who they pulled 322 00:15:45,120 --> 00:15:47,280 Speaker 4: off the street, with the unit that you had to 323 00:15:47,360 --> 00:15:49,200 Speaker 4: kind of tape together, by the end of the season, 324 00:15:49,240 --> 00:15:52,360 Speaker 4: they were pitching shutouts. Yeah, And I remember that that 325 00:15:52,480 --> 00:15:55,320 Speaker 4: period of time you were trying to just grasp onto anything, 326 00:15:55,320 --> 00:15:58,120 Speaker 4: and I remember thinking, like, I think they've got a 327 00:15:58,120 --> 00:15:59,280 Speaker 4: good defensive coordinator. 328 00:15:59,360 --> 00:15:59,720 Speaker 6: Yeah. 329 00:16:00,080 --> 00:16:01,560 Speaker 4: The next year they go ten and six or at 330 00:16:01,600 --> 00:16:03,800 Speaker 4: least with with a vision. But like the way they 331 00:16:03,880 --> 00:16:07,000 Speaker 4: played down the stretch, those games meant nothing because they 332 00:16:07,000 --> 00:16:08,240 Speaker 4: got off to an OH to eight start. 333 00:16:08,280 --> 00:16:09,400 Speaker 3: Those games meant nothing. 334 00:16:09,440 --> 00:16:13,280 Speaker 4: The Bengals could still play in some very meaningful football games. 335 00:16:13,760 --> 00:16:15,200 Speaker 4: But I think by the end of the season you 336 00:16:15,280 --> 00:16:17,080 Speaker 4: thought you saw enough that you're like, all right, that's 337 00:16:17,120 --> 00:16:17,520 Speaker 4: the DC. 338 00:16:18,040 --> 00:16:19,360 Speaker 3: Can I get that from Al Golden. 339 00:16:19,480 --> 00:16:22,040 Speaker 5: The biggest thing now for me coming out of this 340 00:16:22,160 --> 00:16:27,600 Speaker 5: by Pittsburgh you mentioned putrid last night offensively was awful, 341 00:16:27,920 --> 00:16:30,360 Speaker 5: And I do think Pittsburgh's better defensively. They moved Jalen 342 00:16:30,400 --> 00:16:33,400 Speaker 5: Ramsey to safety. I think they're getting better in the defense. 343 00:16:33,520 --> 00:16:35,560 Speaker 5: For much of the night that worked correct. Yeah, I 344 00:16:35,560 --> 00:16:39,000 Speaker 5: think they're getting better there. My question is, though, if 345 00:16:39,040 --> 00:16:41,080 Speaker 5: you don't see it from Al Golden to the defense 346 00:16:41,160 --> 00:16:44,680 Speaker 5: this week, you're gonna see it against New England. Are 347 00:16:44,680 --> 00:16:47,080 Speaker 5: you going to see it against Baltimore twice down the stretch? 348 00:16:47,160 --> 00:16:49,800 Speaker 5: Are you going to see it against Buffalo on the road? 349 00:16:50,320 --> 00:16:50,520 Speaker 7: Hell? 350 00:16:50,600 --> 00:16:53,920 Speaker 5: At this point with Chris Greer gone, are you gonna 351 00:16:53,920 --> 00:16:56,960 Speaker 5: see it in Miami? I mean Miami took the Bills 352 00:16:56,960 --> 00:16:59,800 Speaker 5: to the woodshed yesterday. Yeah, that's a team that's not 353 00:17:00,720 --> 00:17:03,880 Speaker 5: it's a team that's playing well. So it'd be one 354 00:17:03,880 --> 00:17:05,520 Speaker 5: thing if you're coming up on the stretch that they 355 00:17:05,600 --> 00:17:07,840 Speaker 5: just finished right coming out of the by, if you 356 00:17:07,840 --> 00:17:10,240 Speaker 5: have the Jets and like, okay, we get something together. 357 00:17:10,640 --> 00:17:13,440 Speaker 5: If you don't show it against Pittsburgh, good luck showing 358 00:17:13,480 --> 00:17:14,480 Speaker 5: it anytime going forward. 359 00:17:14,560 --> 00:17:17,840 Speaker 4: Well, last year they go on a run right win 360 00:17:17,880 --> 00:17:20,720 Speaker 4: their last five. But look at the quarterbacks they play. 361 00:17:20,880 --> 00:17:22,879 Speaker 4: I think Bo Nicks was the best one in that 362 00:17:22,960 --> 00:17:24,720 Speaker 4: game where they beat him on a Saturday night. 363 00:17:25,320 --> 00:17:27,800 Speaker 3: Beyond that, there was a lot of Cooper Rush right. 364 00:17:28,400 --> 00:17:31,040 Speaker 4: That ain't the case here moving forward, now they've the 365 00:17:31,040 --> 00:17:33,000 Speaker 4: Bengals are going to be playing teams that have issues 366 00:17:33,040 --> 00:17:33,520 Speaker 4: of their own. 367 00:17:33,640 --> 00:17:35,000 Speaker 3: I think Aaron Rodgers looked. 368 00:17:34,840 --> 00:17:38,160 Speaker 4: Ancient last night, but he did just nearly come from 369 00:17:38,160 --> 00:17:41,639 Speaker 4: behind in Beach a few weeks ago. Drake May and 370 00:17:41,720 --> 00:17:44,359 Speaker 4: the New England Page Patriots have been a revelation for 371 00:17:44,440 --> 00:17:45,480 Speaker 4: a lot of people right now. 372 00:17:45,520 --> 00:17:47,000 Speaker 3: The one seed in the AFC. 373 00:17:46,760 --> 00:17:48,840 Speaker 5: Drake May has a lot of people's MVP. Mike Rabel's 374 00:17:48,840 --> 00:17:50,000 Speaker 5: a lot of people's Coach of the Year. 375 00:17:50,119 --> 00:17:53,679 Speaker 4: Yeah, although he nearly committed a faux pall before halftime 376 00:17:53,760 --> 00:17:57,400 Speaker 4: yesterday that we are going to talk about Lamar Jackson 377 00:17:57,480 --> 00:18:01,240 Speaker 4: twice within two weeks in the middle of that, Josh 378 00:18:01,320 --> 00:18:05,440 Speaker 4: Allen on the road, a Miami team that hasn't given up, 379 00:18:06,080 --> 00:18:10,840 Speaker 4: and then Jacoby Brissette later on. But it's a lot 380 00:18:10,920 --> 00:18:14,000 Speaker 4: more of a gauntlet than what they went through last year. 381 00:18:14,240 --> 00:18:16,359 Speaker 4: Last year, what they did they deserve credit for. It 382 00:18:16,400 --> 00:18:21,159 Speaker 4: was improbable, but they took advantage of bad quarterbacks and 383 00:18:21,200 --> 00:18:21,760 Speaker 4: bad offense. 384 00:18:21,800 --> 00:18:24,520 Speaker 5: But last year the thing was doesn't matter what happens 385 00:18:24,520 --> 00:18:26,600 Speaker 5: on defense, because Burrow will carry them. 386 00:18:26,720 --> 00:18:28,720 Speaker 7: Well, guess what we've seen this year. 387 00:18:28,760 --> 00:18:31,080 Speaker 5: It does matter on defense because we're not talking about 388 00:18:31,119 --> 00:18:33,800 Speaker 5: a bad defense, We're talking about getting through the by 389 00:18:33,920 --> 00:18:36,840 Speaker 5: the halfway point of the season at a historic pace 390 00:18:36,920 --> 00:18:39,000 Speaker 5: is one of the worst defenses that's ever taken a 391 00:18:39,040 --> 00:18:43,960 Speaker 5: field in the NFL. So no longer is the conversation of, well, 392 00:18:44,400 --> 00:18:47,359 Speaker 5: if you got Burrow and Chasing Higgins, you got a chance. 393 00:18:48,000 --> 00:18:51,119 Speaker 5: They've had Flacco, Chase and Higgins and have had more 394 00:18:51,160 --> 00:18:54,600 Speaker 5: than a chance to just get two extra stops one 395 00:18:54,640 --> 00:18:57,960 Speaker 5: extra stop a game and you're five and four. You're 396 00:18:58,080 --> 00:18:59,800 Speaker 5: five and four coming out of the by with Joe 397 00:18:59,840 --> 00:19:02,120 Speaker 5: Burroll on the practice field today. Yeah, By 465 00:22:27,080 --> 00:22:28,560 Speaker 4: the way, look at where some of those players have 466 00:22:28,760 --> 00:22:31,200 Speaker 4: ended up and look how they have started at their 467 00:22:31,240 --> 00:22:34,320 Speaker 4: new schools. A lot of good players, pieces didn't fit. 468 00:22:35,720 --> 00:22:38,639 Speaker 4: The first two games of this season. You kind of 469 00:22:38,680 --> 00:22:41,439 Speaker 4: say the same thing. A lot of good players do 470 00:22:41,520 --> 00:22:44,720 Speaker 4: the pieces fit. Yeah, I don't think they did on Friday. No, 471 00:22:45,640 --> 00:22:48,800 Speaker 4: it's November. There's plenty of time, big picture. 472 00:22:48,760 --> 00:22:50,600 Speaker 5: But you're thinking like watching that Friday, like, all right, 473 00:22:50,640 --> 00:22:54,199 Speaker 5: one more tune up before a good contest. Yeah, with 474 00:22:54,320 --> 00:22:56,840 Speaker 5: Dayton coming in? Yeah, how do you make the most 475 00:22:56,840 --> 00:23:00,159 Speaker 5: of it? It was not inspiring by any means on 476 00:23:00,160 --> 00:23:00,680 Speaker 5: Friday night. 477 00:23:01,040 --> 00:23:06,119 Speaker 4: Poor outside shooting, poor free throw shooting, lots of turnovers. Yeah, 478 00:23:06,160 --> 00:23:11,160 Speaker 4: and an offense that it just didn't connect just to Yeah, yep, 479 00:23:12,480 --> 00:23:14,360 Speaker 4: I hate that they play it is. 480 00:23:15,520 --> 00:23:18,200 Speaker 3: I want more regional games. I don't want this one. 481 00:23:18,280 --> 00:23:18,480 Speaker 6: Yep. 482 00:23:19,520 --> 00:23:22,679 Speaker 5: I'm not conflicted. You know who I'd rest, Yes, but 483 00:23:23,560 --> 00:23:24,200 Speaker 5: I don't like it. 484 00:23:25,400 --> 00:23:28,760 Speaker 4: I don't like it. Since we last talked on this show, 485 00:23:29,840 --> 00:23:33,360 Speaker 4: the NFL trade deadline is coming gone. The Bengals did 486 00:23:33,400 --> 00:23:37,040 Speaker 4: not trade Trey Hendrickson. It is being reported that the 487 00:23:37,080 --> 00:23:39,080 Speaker 4: best offer of the Bengals got was for a fourth 488 00:23:39,160 --> 00:23:39,640 Speaker 4: round pick. 489 00:23:40,440 --> 00:23:41,240 Speaker 7: Yeah. 490 00:23:41,520 --> 00:23:45,240 Speaker 5: When I read that today, to me, I don't blame 491 00:23:45,280 --> 00:23:47,560 Speaker 5: the Bengals for not moving Trey Hendrickson. No, I don't either, 492 00:23:47,600 --> 00:23:50,320 Speaker 5: like that been reported today, Like, hey, the Bengals they 493 00:23:50,320 --> 00:23:52,639 Speaker 5: only received one offer for a second rounder, then I 494 00:23:52,680 --> 00:23:53,800 Speaker 5: would have been like what are we doing? 495 00:23:54,000 --> 00:23:55,480 Speaker 7: Like second rounder? 496 00:23:55,600 --> 00:23:57,760 Speaker 5: Yes, I would have maybe even jumped at a third rounder, 497 00:23:58,320 --> 00:24:01,080 Speaker 5: fourth rounder for the defense, I mean, sac leader in 498 00:24:01,119 --> 00:24:04,719 Speaker 5: the National Football League and still a great player when 499 00:24:04,760 --> 00:24:07,680 Speaker 5: he's healthy. I think that's too low. I think that's 500 00:24:07,760 --> 00:24:10,200 Speaker 5: enough for me to say, Okay, let's hang on to him. 501 00:24:10,320 --> 00:24:12,879 Speaker 5: Anything higher I think I would have probably lean to 502 00:24:12,960 --> 00:24:15,520 Speaker 5: jump on it. But fourth round, I think is almost 503 00:24:15,600 --> 00:24:17,040 Speaker 5: disrespectful for Trey Henderson. 504 00:24:17,119 --> 00:24:20,800 Speaker 4: I think the part of the Trey Hendrickson conversation that 505 00:24:20,880 --> 00:24:23,600 Speaker 4: didn't materialize the way it should have leaning up to 506 00:24:23,640 --> 00:24:25,480 Speaker 4: the trade deadline is the part where you have to 507 00:24:25,520 --> 00:24:26,720 Speaker 4: acknowledge he's hurt. 508 00:24:26,920 --> 00:24:30,000 Speaker 5: Yeah, And that's I think what we're learning today as well. 509 00:24:30,720 --> 00:24:33,280 Speaker 5: You don't play, you go into a bye, you come 510 00:24:33,280 --> 00:24:36,439 Speaker 5: out of a bye, and already you're doubtful. Right, Like 511 00:24:36,480 --> 00:24:38,600 Speaker 5: if Zach Taylor's on the podium today, like, hey, we'll 512 00:24:38,640 --> 00:24:41,760 Speaker 5: see this week with Trey, because Zach usually holds stuff 513 00:24:41,800 --> 00:24:46,520 Speaker 5: pretty close to the vest Monday, doubtful. That's not ideal 514 00:24:46,560 --> 00:24:48,000 Speaker 5: for a guy that just had a whole week to 515 00:24:49,600 --> 00:24:53,840 Speaker 5: rest and recoup and get healthy. That's worrisome. And I 516 00:24:53,840 --> 00:24:57,479 Speaker 5: wonder how many teams that reached out you know, were 517 00:24:57,520 --> 00:25:01,239 Speaker 5: made aware or you know, asked a little bit more 518 00:25:01,240 --> 00:25:04,400 Speaker 5: about the injury and maybe shielded from giving anything higher 519 00:25:04,440 --> 00:25:04,919 Speaker 5: than a fourth. 520 00:25:04,960 --> 00:25:07,640 Speaker 4: Since we last did this show together, Logan Wilson has 521 00:25:07,680 --> 00:25:11,040 Speaker 4: been traded, issued a farewell message and didn't mention Zach Taylor. 522 00:25:11,119 --> 00:25:11,840 Speaker 7: Yeah, that was odd. 523 00:25:12,680 --> 00:25:14,280 Speaker 5: It was odd in a sense that he went out 524 00:25:14,280 --> 00:25:17,919 Speaker 5: of his way to single out a ton of players, 525 00:25:18,119 --> 00:25:22,679 Speaker 5: a ton of people coaches, position players, defensive coordinators that 526 00:25:22,800 --> 00:25:26,040 Speaker 5: have impacted him along the way, and left out the 527 00:25:26,040 --> 00:25:26,520 Speaker 5: head coach. 528 00:25:26,920 --> 00:25:28,879 Speaker 7: Seemingly weird. 529 00:25:29,040 --> 00:25:31,520 Speaker 5: Also, you feel for the guy from going to the 530 00:25:31,560 --> 00:25:33,480 Speaker 5: worst defense in the NFL or the second worst defense 531 00:25:33,520 --> 00:25:34,040 Speaker 5: in the NFL. 532 00:25:34,119 --> 00:25:35,920 Speaker 4: As I said on social media, it was like being 533 00:25:35,920 --> 00:25:37,840 Speaker 4: treated from the Titanic to the Hindenburg. 534 00:25:37,960 --> 00:25:38,240 Speaker 6: Dang. 535 00:25:39,359 --> 00:25:43,280 Speaker 4: I think Logan Wilson only at that statement so he 536 00:25:43,320 --> 00:25:44,400 Speaker 4: could ignore Zach. 537 00:25:44,240 --> 00:25:47,080 Speaker 3: Taylor on it. Yeah, that's the only reason he said that. 538 00:25:47,080 --> 00:25:48,760 Speaker 5: That's the only reason you said anything like that. It's 539 00:25:48,800 --> 00:25:50,760 Speaker 5: the only reason you go out of your way to 540 00:25:50,800 --> 00:25:53,080 Speaker 5: mention some people and not the head coach. Correct if 541 00:25:53,119 --> 00:25:54,760 Speaker 5: it was just like, I want to thank the organization 542 00:25:54,800 --> 00:25:58,400 Speaker 5: as a whole, players, coaches, evers, fans. Then you keep 543 00:25:58,400 --> 00:26:02,160 Speaker 5: it broad when you sing, so many people out because 544 00:26:02,160 --> 00:26:04,560 Speaker 5: that was the only take from it, Like no, it 545 00:26:04,600 --> 00:26:06,399 Speaker 5: was like, oh, what a heartfelt trait was right. He 546 00:26:06,440 --> 00:26:08,880 Speaker 5: didn't say anything about Zach You. 547 00:26:08,840 --> 00:26:13,800 Speaker 4: Know I noticed during your brief time away. Yeah, you 548 00:26:13,840 --> 00:26:15,320 Speaker 4: didn't mention me in your farewell. 549 00:26:15,480 --> 00:26:16,680 Speaker 7: No, nope. 550 00:26:17,560 --> 00:26:19,840 Speaker 5: Oh my second my main farewell was going to come 551 00:26:19,840 --> 00:26:22,719 Speaker 5: after that, after I gathered myself and sat back and 552 00:26:22,760 --> 00:26:24,240 Speaker 5: listened to the obituaries be read. 553 00:26:24,960 --> 00:26:31,640 Speaker 4: And since we last talked, the Bengals have not fired anybody, 554 00:26:31,640 --> 00:26:33,440 Speaker 4: have not moved on from anybody. I think there's a 555 00:26:33,480 --> 00:26:35,480 Speaker 4: lot of folks. You know, you and I were doing 556 00:26:35,480 --> 00:26:38,000 Speaker 4: the show last Monday. The Bengals had just lost another 557 00:26:38,080 --> 00:26:41,240 Speaker 4: game in heartbreaking fashion to the Chicago Bears, and I 558 00:26:41,240 --> 00:26:42,719 Speaker 4: think there are a lot of folks who woke up 559 00:26:42,800 --> 00:26:45,280 Speaker 4: last Monday morning thinking, well, they'll do something. 560 00:26:45,040 --> 00:26:45,480 Speaker 7: They do not. 561 00:26:46,560 --> 00:26:50,080 Speaker 5: I get that it's maybe too early to pull the 562 00:26:50,119 --> 00:26:54,359 Speaker 5: plug on Al Golden. What surprises me? And we have 563 00:26:54,400 --> 00:26:57,280 Speaker 5: a caller on three sixty John from Boston that calls in. 564 00:26:57,600 --> 00:26:58,760 Speaker 7: He's a Patriot fan. 565 00:26:58,720 --> 00:27:02,800 Speaker 5: Yeah, and he has been Adaman since day one. Jerry 566 00:27:02,800 --> 00:27:05,560 Speaker 5: Montgomery and Scott Peters were at the helm of some 567 00:27:05,600 --> 00:27:07,479 Speaker 5: of the worst units in football last year in New 568 00:27:07,480 --> 00:27:11,720 Speaker 5: England and look what you've done now. New England is 569 00:27:11,720 --> 00:27:13,680 Speaker 5: a team we're talking about as potentially the best team 570 00:27:13,680 --> 00:27:16,520 Speaker 5: in the AFC, while here are the struggles on both 571 00:27:16,560 --> 00:27:19,520 Speaker 5: lines for the Bengals. So it's one thing to say, 572 00:27:19,560 --> 00:27:21,760 Speaker 5: well and not moving on from Duke or Zach or 573 00:27:21,920 --> 00:27:23,040 Speaker 5: any of the coordinators. 574 00:27:25,400 --> 00:27:26,560 Speaker 7: Would you have been alarmed? 575 00:27:26,560 --> 00:27:29,560 Speaker 5: Would you have would shockwaves have been sent to the 576 00:27:29,600 --> 00:27:31,800 Speaker 5: city if you had moved on from an O line 577 00:27:31,880 --> 00:27:34,560 Speaker 5: or D line coach that has underperformed for much of 578 00:27:34,560 --> 00:27:38,080 Speaker 5: the year Like that to me was a little surprising, But. 579 00:27:39,800 --> 00:27:40,880 Speaker 3: I wasn't surprised at all. 580 00:27:41,040 --> 00:27:43,600 Speaker 5: Yeah, were you more surprised by that? Or that we 581 00:27:43,600 --> 00:27:47,120 Speaker 5: didn't hear anything from Duke Tobin during the bye? Not 582 00:27:47,119 --> 00:27:50,720 Speaker 5: that we ever do, but I just thought, like for me, 583 00:27:51,760 --> 00:27:53,200 Speaker 5: I just thought it would have went a long way 584 00:27:53,760 --> 00:27:57,400 Speaker 5: with where the franchise is, things spiraling out of control 585 00:27:57,840 --> 00:28:00,280 Speaker 5: the last two games before the bye, and how bad 586 00:28:00,320 --> 00:28:02,800 Speaker 5: they were, it would be nice for someone to get 587 00:28:02,880 --> 00:28:05,960 Speaker 5: up and say, Okay, it's not been good enough. We've 588 00:28:05,960 --> 00:28:08,680 Speaker 5: got a plan to identify the problems and address them. 589 00:28:09,160 --> 00:28:10,800 Speaker 5: And you don't even need to go into the details. 590 00:28:11,240 --> 00:28:13,320 Speaker 5: But it just would have showed a little bit of urgency. 591 00:28:13,520 --> 00:28:13,960 Speaker 6: Yeah. 592 00:28:14,040 --> 00:28:16,680 Speaker 5: If, oh man, we really don't hear from Duke Tobin 593 00:28:16,720 --> 00:28:19,000 Speaker 5: at all, but he's going to speak during the bye week, 594 00:28:19,040 --> 00:28:20,959 Speaker 5: I think that would be that would have been important. 595 00:28:20,960 --> 00:28:22,439 Speaker 5: I think that would have went a long way to 596 00:28:22,520 --> 00:28:23,119 Speaker 5: a lot of folks. 597 00:28:23,240 --> 00:28:25,399 Speaker 4: My take on this, and I talked about it last week, 598 00:28:25,520 --> 00:28:28,439 Speaker 4: is if I was Duke Tobin and I have my 599 00:28:28,640 --> 00:28:33,199 Speaker 4: coach three times per week have to answer questions for 600 00:28:33,320 --> 00:28:36,639 Speaker 4: things that I'm responsible for, I would have taken the 601 00:28:36,680 --> 00:28:38,800 Speaker 4: bye week as an opportunity to go, you know what, Zach, 602 00:28:38,840 --> 00:28:39,560 Speaker 4: you don't take care of it? 603 00:28:39,760 --> 00:28:40,520 Speaker 3: I got it, yep. 604 00:28:40,960 --> 00:28:44,760 Speaker 4: I just on a human level, I refuse to believe 605 00:28:45,800 --> 00:28:48,480 Speaker 4: that the people that Duke Tobin works for would not 606 00:28:48,680 --> 00:28:51,160 Speaker 4: let him do that. Like if Duke said, you know what, 607 00:28:52,240 --> 00:28:55,239 Speaker 4: my roster decisions are fair game, I'll answer for them. 608 00:28:55,280 --> 00:28:58,440 Speaker 4: I'll try to explain as best I can why I 609 00:28:58,480 --> 00:29:00,960 Speaker 4: think we are where we are and where we're going 610 00:29:01,000 --> 00:29:03,920 Speaker 4: to go. I cannot imagine that the people that Duke 611 00:29:03,960 --> 00:29:06,120 Speaker 4: works for would say, Nope, you're not allowed to do that. 612 00:29:06,800 --> 00:29:11,000 Speaker 4: I just if I was Duke, I have Jamar Chase 613 00:29:11,040 --> 00:29:13,840 Speaker 4: having to answer questions about my defense. I have Chase 614 00:29:13,880 --> 00:29:16,760 Speaker 4: Brown having to answer questions about my defense. Heck, Joe 615 00:29:16,840 --> 00:29:20,400 Speaker 4: Burrow today having to answer questions about my defense the 616 00:29:20,480 --> 00:29:22,280 Speaker 4: head coach of the team. That coach of the team 617 00:29:22,320 --> 00:29:26,440 Speaker 4: is basically the spokesperson for the organization. He's obviously very 618 00:29:26,440 --> 00:29:29,080 Speaker 4: complicit in the team's demise. But I would say to 619 00:29:29,480 --> 00:29:31,640 Speaker 4: Zach Taylor and those players, you know what, it's time 620 00:29:31,680 --> 00:29:34,320 Speaker 4: for me to take some medicine. And for this week 621 00:29:34,360 --> 00:29:36,840 Speaker 4: and maybe this week only, I'll be the guy who 622 00:29:36,840 --> 00:29:40,719 Speaker 4: answers the questions about a roster that I am primarily 623 00:29:40,760 --> 00:29:41,479 Speaker 4: responsible for. 624 00:29:41,640 --> 00:29:45,640 Speaker 5: Also a tough week as a player personnel guy to 625 00:29:45,720 --> 00:29:49,120 Speaker 5: watch on a bye week. Former players of the Bengals 626 00:29:49,240 --> 00:29:52,080 Speaker 5: have such impact in games. Yep, Sheldon Rankins had a 627 00:29:52,080 --> 00:29:55,920 Speaker 5: defensive touchdown yesterday. Jesse Bates force fumble in an interception. 628 00:29:57,520 --> 00:30:00,760 Speaker 5: Who's the guy for the Jets the returner? It's Isaiah 629 00:30:00,760 --> 00:30:04,000 Speaker 5: Williams score a touchdown on a return. I mean DJ 630 00:30:04,080 --> 00:30:07,000 Speaker 5: readers played at a highlight Shadobi a Woozia like there 631 00:30:07,080 --> 00:30:09,080 Speaker 5: were every time I feel like I looked at a 632 00:30:09,120 --> 00:30:11,080 Speaker 5: highlight yesterday, I was like, Oh, that's a former Bengal, 633 00:30:11,240 --> 00:30:13,920 Speaker 5: Oh that's a former Bengal And meanwhile, during a bye week, 634 00:30:13,920 --> 00:30:16,000 Speaker 5: you don't get to hear from anyone in the personnel 635 00:30:16,040 --> 00:30:20,000 Speaker 5: department about how the roster is currently constructed and players 636 00:30:20,000 --> 00:30:21,680 Speaker 5: that are no longer here and why they're not here, 637 00:30:21,680 --> 00:30:24,160 Speaker 5: and what the plan is getting better going forward. I 638 00:30:24,200 --> 00:30:26,880 Speaker 5: think that's a miss on all levels in this organization. 639 00:30:27,440 --> 00:30:31,240 Speaker 5: But to you, at your point, you expect Zach Taylor 640 00:30:31,240 --> 00:30:35,400 Speaker 5: to get up there and take fire and have to 641 00:30:35,400 --> 00:30:37,840 Speaker 5: answer all these questions and go to bat for everybody, 642 00:30:38,160 --> 00:30:40,320 Speaker 5: and you ask the same thing of your players. He 643 00:30:40,360 --> 00:30:43,040 Speaker 5: has the same thing of Joe Burrow today, who's working 644 00:30:43,080 --> 00:30:45,640 Speaker 5: on his tail off to get better, to get back 645 00:30:45,680 --> 00:30:48,600 Speaker 5: to this team way earlier than anyone thought, and he's 646 00:30:48,600 --> 00:30:51,320 Speaker 5: got to take questions about the defense and about the 647 00:30:51,320 --> 00:30:55,040 Speaker 5: players out there. And yet Duke Tobin never seen from, 648 00:30:55,080 --> 00:30:59,000 Speaker 5: never heard. I think that's weak on all accounts. And 649 00:30:59,040 --> 00:31:00,440 Speaker 5: it's not like he's not being given time. 650 00:31:00,920 --> 00:31:02,040 Speaker 3: Well, it's weak. 651 00:31:02,120 --> 00:31:06,680 Speaker 4: And also I think there there's a lot of confusion 652 00:31:06,800 --> 00:31:10,680 Speaker 4: as to who's calling the shots. I think there's a 653 00:31:10,720 --> 00:31:14,080 Speaker 4: lot of built in confusion as to who does what, 654 00:31:14,280 --> 00:31:17,280 Speaker 4: who's responsible for what. And I think in part Duke 655 00:31:17,320 --> 00:31:22,160 Speaker 4: Tobin's relative anonymity feeds that, and so I get for me. 656 00:31:22,440 --> 00:31:25,240 Speaker 4: And again, if I'm putting myself in Duke tobin shoes, 657 00:31:25,640 --> 00:31:28,520 Speaker 4: I go, you know what, the team that I built 658 00:31:28,560 --> 00:31:32,200 Speaker 4: is not living up to expectation. I have to answer 659 00:31:32,240 --> 00:31:35,840 Speaker 4: for this. Yeah, throw the questions at me. Nobody may 660 00:31:35,960 --> 00:31:39,760 Speaker 4: like the answers. Chances are nobody would. I just I 661 00:31:39,760 --> 00:31:43,240 Speaker 4: think it's a weak act when you hide, and Duke Tobin, 662 00:31:43,760 --> 00:31:49,840 Speaker 4: in very adverse times is hiding. I respect the heck 663 00:31:49,880 --> 00:31:52,640 Speaker 4: gut of the fact that when they're good, it's not 664 00:31:52,680 --> 00:31:55,160 Speaker 4: like Duke Tobin makes himself available and takes all the credit. 665 00:31:55,480 --> 00:31:56,880 Speaker 3: I think there's something cool about that. 666 00:31:57,480 --> 00:32:01,040 Speaker 4: But when times are tough and other have to answer 667 00:32:01,160 --> 00:32:04,440 Speaker 4: for things that they're not responsible for and you hide, 668 00:32:04,840 --> 00:32:06,000 Speaker 4: that is weak as hell. 669 00:32:06,280 --> 00:32:10,520 Speaker 5: For three years now, all I've wanted to know was 670 00:32:10,600 --> 00:32:14,440 Speaker 5: how that working relationship with Zach and Duke operates, because 671 00:32:14,440 --> 00:32:17,640 Speaker 5: for three years I've wondered, it doesn't feel like the 672 00:32:17,680 --> 00:32:22,960 Speaker 5: personnel in the scheme match when you're evaluating talent Duke Tobin. 673 00:32:23,520 --> 00:32:25,000 Speaker 7: How involved does Zach Taylor with you? 674 00:32:26,120 --> 00:32:28,720 Speaker 5: What does that relationship look like on a day to 675 00:32:28,800 --> 00:32:33,080 Speaker 5: day basis, in season out of season? Because the longer 676 00:32:33,160 --> 00:32:36,400 Speaker 5: this goes on, the more I'm convinced they don't talk. 677 00:32:36,960 --> 00:32:39,360 Speaker 5: That's how I view it, because there's no way that 678 00:32:39,440 --> 00:32:42,240 Speaker 5: the personnel that is on this roster matches the scheme 679 00:32:42,280 --> 00:32:45,840 Speaker 5: that Zach Taylor's trying to run. And that to me, okay, 680 00:32:45,880 --> 00:32:48,640 Speaker 5: does that trickle into the defense. 681 00:32:48,680 --> 00:32:48,880 Speaker 6: Now? 682 00:32:49,480 --> 00:32:52,160 Speaker 5: How much does Duke Tobin and Al Golden talk like 683 00:32:52,200 --> 00:32:54,760 Speaker 5: did I'll come in and say, okay, if you want 684 00:32:54,800 --> 00:32:56,880 Speaker 5: me to be successful, these are the types of players 685 00:32:56,880 --> 00:33:00,520 Speaker 5: I need? Or is it Duke saying here are the 686 00:33:00,520 --> 00:33:04,080 Speaker 5: players you have make it work? Because those types of 687 00:33:04,080 --> 00:33:08,400 Speaker 5: relationships don't work like that? To me, I come back 688 00:33:08,560 --> 00:33:10,560 Speaker 5: during this bye, I've thought time and time again about 689 00:33:10,560 --> 00:33:14,000 Speaker 5: just the word urgency within the organization. How do these 690 00:33:14,040 --> 00:33:17,120 Speaker 5: things get fixed? Is it communication? Does someone's head have 691 00:33:17,200 --> 00:33:21,280 Speaker 5: to roll? And then again, like I watch the Lions, 692 00:33:21,280 --> 00:33:22,720 Speaker 5: I feel like have been a good team all year. 693 00:33:23,280 --> 00:33:25,800 Speaker 5: Lions had one bad offensive week, yes and all of 694 00:33:25,840 --> 00:33:27,920 Speaker 5: a sudden, I turn on the game yesterday, Dan Campbell's 695 00:33:27,920 --> 00:33:33,280 Speaker 5: calling plays. It took them one bad not like abysmal, yeah, 696 00:33:33,440 --> 00:33:37,600 Speaker 5: just a bad offensive week and Dan Campbell's calling plays yesterday, 697 00:33:37,640 --> 00:33:40,480 Speaker 5: and I'm like, man, that's an organization right now that's 698 00:33:40,520 --> 00:33:45,160 Speaker 5: operating with urgency. And you see those teams across the NFL, 699 00:33:47,120 --> 00:33:50,840 Speaker 5: however you view them, are the Bengals operating behind those 700 00:33:50,880 --> 00:33:53,920 Speaker 5: closed doors, Duke Tobin and Zach Taylor with the utmost 701 00:33:54,080 --> 00:33:56,280 Speaker 5: urgency and where they're at. And when you go into 702 00:33:56,360 --> 00:33:59,200 Speaker 5: a buy losing games in which you've scored thirty eight 703 00:33:59,240 --> 00:34:02,160 Speaker 5: and forty two and you say we're not doing anything, 704 00:34:02,200 --> 00:34:05,480 Speaker 5: everyone's safe. Duke's not gonna talk like that to me? 705 00:34:05,560 --> 00:34:06,240 Speaker 5: Is status quo? 706 00:34:06,360 --> 00:34:06,600 Speaker 6: Yep? 707 00:34:07,160 --> 00:34:09,320 Speaker 7: And status quo with this team right now is not 708 00:34:09,360 --> 00:34:09,880 Speaker 7: good enough. 709 00:34:09,880 --> 00:34:14,120 Speaker 4: Correct. I just every year, 756 00:36:58,480 --> 00:37:02,760 Speaker 5: I feel like it's the same thing. Yeah it was today, 757 00:37:03,120 --> 00:37:04,440 Speaker 5: well because it was so early. 758 00:37:04,680 --> 00:37:09,160 Speaker 4: Yeah it typically we don't get snow in just November tenth, right. 759 00:37:09,680 --> 00:37:11,120 Speaker 7: Well that and like two days is gonna be back 760 00:37:11,120 --> 00:37:11,560 Speaker 7: to sixty. 761 00:37:12,080 --> 00:37:12,680 Speaker 3: I can't wait. 762 00:37:13,000 --> 00:37:14,880 Speaker 7: I think this Saturday for the Bearcats is gonna be 763 00:37:14,880 --> 00:37:15,600 Speaker 7: like a high of sixty. 764 00:37:15,640 --> 00:37:16,680 Speaker 3: It's gonna be a great day. 765 00:37:18,000 --> 00:37:20,760 Speaker 4: I had to explain to my daughter that just because 766 00:37:20,800 --> 00:37:24,080 Speaker 4: we got a tiny, tiny, tiny bit of snow, Yeah, 767 00:37:24,520 --> 00:37:25,760 Speaker 4: they weren't canceling school. 768 00:37:26,120 --> 00:37:28,560 Speaker 5: Yeah, do you like subscribe to like the Farmer's Almanac 769 00:37:28,600 --> 00:37:30,400 Speaker 5: and stuff and see like, well, you know, based on 770 00:37:30,440 --> 00:37:32,640 Speaker 5: this shadow or based on these signs, it's gonna be 771 00:37:32,680 --> 00:37:33,320 Speaker 5: a tough winner. 772 00:37:33,400 --> 00:37:34,359 Speaker 1: No, I don't either. 773 00:37:35,280 --> 00:37:37,839 Speaker 4: I watched Jennifer Ketchmark in the morning on Channel nine 774 00:37:37,880 --> 00:37:39,320 Speaker 4: and she says, it's gonna snow. 775 00:37:39,440 --> 00:37:41,439 Speaker 7: It's snows Yep. Pretty simple. 776 00:37:41,520 --> 00:37:42,880 Speaker 3: That's that's how I get my weather. 777 00:37:44,400 --> 00:37:46,239 Speaker 4: Speaking of the Bearcats, we are going to talk about 778 00:37:46,280 --> 00:37:48,680 Speaker 4: UC versus Arizona coming up, a game that I think 779 00:37:48,719 --> 00:37:51,040 Speaker 4: a lot of people are kind of overlooking. Yeah, spend 780 00:37:51,040 --> 00:37:53,960 Speaker 4: a few minutes on Texas Tech and BYU, a game 781 00:37:54,120 --> 00:37:56,640 Speaker 4: to shape the Big twelve race and the play of 782 00:37:56,680 --> 00:37:59,360 Speaker 4: the year in college football, turned in by Omar Cooper 783 00:37:59,400 --> 00:38:00,480 Speaker 4: of Indiana University. 784 00:38:01,239 --> 00:38:02,239 Speaker 3: Joe Burrow is back. 785 00:38:02,440 --> 00:38:06,360 Speaker 4: He is practicing limited capacity, not exactly doing eleven on 786 00:38:06,560 --> 00:38:10,279 Speaker 4: eleven work, but the window is open for him to 787 00:38:10,320 --> 00:38:13,759 Speaker 4: play in these next twenty one days, and theoretically he 788 00:38:13,800 --> 00:38:16,160 Speaker 4: could still practice and they could decide after twenty one 789 00:38:16,239 --> 00:38:19,880 Speaker 4: days to bag the whole thing entirely. We will see 790 00:38:20,120 --> 00:38:24,600 Speaker 4: Bengals and Steelers on Sunday at one o'clock. Pittsburgh loses. 791 00:38:24,719 --> 00:38:29,400 Speaker 4: Last night, Baltimore wins. I saw something yesterday that I 792 00:38:29,480 --> 00:38:33,320 Speaker 4: thought had probably never happened, but it actually had twenty 793 00:38:33,320 --> 00:38:37,120 Speaker 4: five years ago. A team playing at home getting eight 794 00:38:37,200 --> 00:38:40,360 Speaker 4: fall starts incredible, like the Minnesota Vikings did yesterday. 795 00:38:40,719 --> 00:38:44,160 Speaker 5: I one of the more puzzling things in the NFL 796 00:38:44,920 --> 00:38:49,120 Speaker 5: is what Minnesota is doing at quarterback, yeah, because to me, 797 00:38:49,920 --> 00:38:53,000 Speaker 5: it's almost like they're allowing the greatness of Kevin O'Connell 798 00:38:53,840 --> 00:38:57,960 Speaker 5: to like who you are a huge, huge fan of Yeah, 799 00:38:58,040 --> 00:38:59,839 Speaker 5: and on the defensive side of the ball floors as well. 800 00:38:59,840 --> 00:39:02,360 Speaker 5: But it's like, right, well, he's such a great coach 801 00:39:02,400 --> 00:39:04,040 Speaker 5: that we don't have to get a great quarterback. We 802 00:39:04,080 --> 00:39:08,680 Speaker 5: can just out coach, Like, just get a good quarterback. 803 00:39:09,480 --> 00:39:13,280 Speaker 5: Doesn't have to be like elite Hall of Fame level quarterback, 804 00:39:13,400 --> 00:39:14,160 Speaker 5: just get a good one. 805 00:39:14,920 --> 00:39:17,040 Speaker 7: I've seen an I don't think J. J. McCarthy's that guy. 806 00:39:17,600 --> 00:39:19,080 Speaker 7: I really don't. 807 00:39:19,640 --> 00:39:21,919 Speaker 5: I've never felt at that point, yestually watching that game 808 00:39:21,960 --> 00:39:23,120 Speaker 5: like Baltimore was in trouble. 809 00:39:24,239 --> 00:39:27,120 Speaker 4: No, although they've had so many sort of dumb meltdown 810 00:39:27,160 --> 00:39:30,160 Speaker 4: quarter losses that the door was. It may have been 811 00:39:30,600 --> 00:39:33,800 Speaker 4: the worst like two minute drill I've ever watched a 812 00:39:33,840 --> 00:39:37,600 Speaker 4: team run with Minnesota's last offensive drive. The amount of 813 00:39:37,640 --> 00:39:39,759 Speaker 4: time they were wasting and taking their time, it just 814 00:39:40,200 --> 00:39:44,279 Speaker 4: it was awful. I just I don't understand how if 815 00:39:44,280 --> 00:39:46,160 Speaker 4: you're Minnesota you can't just go get a top tier 816 00:39:46,280 --> 00:39:50,920 Speaker 4: quarterback and then use Justin Jefferson and Kevin O'Connell in 817 00:39:50,920 --> 00:39:53,000 Speaker 4: a way the best one bring out there. At You 818 00:39:53,080 --> 00:39:56,600 Speaker 4: would argue they had one Sam Dark Yeah, moved on, 819 00:39:56,920 --> 00:39:58,400 Speaker 4: They mean one would nothing. 820 00:40:00,040 --> 00:40:01,080 Speaker 7: Talking about a team right now? 821 00:40:01,160 --> 00:40:04,480 Speaker 3: Right they had one. Seattle's a wagon. 822 00:40:04,200 --> 00:40:07,279 Speaker 5: For thirty eight in the first half, two defensive touchdowns yesterday, 823 00:40:07,960 --> 00:40:11,400 Speaker 5: just completely overmatched the Arizona Cardinals. I'll tell you the 824 00:40:11,520 --> 00:40:16,120 Speaker 5: NFC that the NFC playoffs are going to be insane, Yes, 825 00:40:16,600 --> 00:40:19,520 Speaker 5: because I can make a case for Seattle. The two 826 00:40:19,560 --> 00:40:21,800 Speaker 5: games tonight, or two teams tonight, Green Bay and Philly, 827 00:40:22,120 --> 00:40:26,960 Speaker 5: Tampa Detroit, the Rams Matthew Stafford right now I think 828 00:40:27,000 --> 00:40:29,960 Speaker 5: would be my MVP four touchdown passes in the last 829 00:40:30,000 --> 00:40:33,600 Speaker 5: three games each. Like the NFC from top to bottom 830 00:40:34,360 --> 00:40:36,920 Speaker 5: is incredible right now, Like that is going to be 831 00:40:36,960 --> 00:40:38,360 Speaker 5: cinema in the playoffs. 832 00:40:38,400 --> 00:40:43,560 Speaker 4: So with JJ McCarthy, it's not that dissimilar from Des Ritter, 833 00:40:44,320 --> 00:40:48,359 Speaker 4: where I watched a lot more Dez than I did 834 00:40:48,400 --> 00:40:51,759 Speaker 4: to J McCarthy. But I remember, after having watched him 835 00:40:51,760 --> 00:40:53,800 Speaker 4: at Michigan, where he had a terrific career, won a 836 00:40:53,880 --> 00:40:58,600 Speaker 4: national championship. But after having watched him at Michigan, when 837 00:40:58,640 --> 00:41:01,200 Speaker 4: you would hear people talk about a first round grade 838 00:41:01,280 --> 00:41:04,600 Speaker 4: on him, I'm no talent evaluator by any stretch, but 839 00:41:04,640 --> 00:41:09,200 Speaker 4: I would go like, really, and you know, Des was 840 00:41:09,200 --> 00:41:11,160 Speaker 4: not taken in the first round, but there was quote 841 00:41:11,160 --> 00:41:14,120 Speaker 4: first round buzz around Des and I remember going, man, 842 00:41:14,160 --> 00:41:17,239 Speaker 4: I love him, Yeah, but I watched every snap and 843 00:41:17,560 --> 00:41:19,800 Speaker 4: I don't know that he's a starting caliber quarterback in 844 00:41:19,840 --> 00:41:22,680 Speaker 4: the NFL. I think JJ McCarthy is a better quarterback, 845 00:41:22,719 --> 00:41:25,560 Speaker 4: better pro prospect, but not a great pro prospect. 846 00:41:26,600 --> 00:41:32,759 Speaker 3: Baltimore's defense, the Bears, Yeah, you know what, they do. 847 00:41:32,719 --> 00:41:34,440 Speaker 7: It again, William finding ways to get it done. 848 00:41:34,520 --> 00:41:36,080 Speaker 3: They do it again. Coaching matters. 849 00:41:36,120 --> 00:41:38,200 Speaker 4: They come back and beat the Giants yesterday caused Brian 850 00:41:38,280 --> 00:41:43,000 Speaker 4: Daballa's job with Baltimore. In the first half of the 851 00:41:43,000 --> 00:41:46,279 Speaker 4: first half of the season, the defense was Bengals esque. 852 00:41:47,200 --> 00:41:49,880 Speaker 4: Last four games, they have allowed twenty points or fewer 853 00:41:49,880 --> 00:41:52,720 Speaker 4: in each. They have won three of those four games. 854 00:41:53,239 --> 00:41:55,319 Speaker 4: They are now the odds on favorite to win the 855 00:41:55,320 --> 00:41:58,880 Speaker 4: AFC North. They've gotten healthier. They have to do everything 856 00:41:58,920 --> 00:42:04,839 Speaker 4: safety and in Brian Hamilton, but they Kyle Hamilton, they 857 00:42:05,160 --> 00:42:08,720 Speaker 4: you're allowed to get better on defense within a season. 858 00:42:09,000 --> 00:42:13,160 Speaker 4: There can be incremental improvements, and they have two great 859 00:42:13,160 --> 00:42:15,560 Speaker 4: safeties because they took Starks, the kid that we talked 860 00:42:15,600 --> 00:42:17,080 Speaker 4: a lot about in the in the run up to 861 00:42:17,120 --> 00:42:21,480 Speaker 4: the draft, and not from what they were to what 862 00:42:21,560 --> 00:42:25,120 Speaker 4: they are now. So my question is, can we can 863 00:42:25,160 --> 00:42:27,879 Speaker 4: we see something similar take hold here? 864 00:42:27,960 --> 00:42:30,880 Speaker 7: I hope so. Have you seen any of the groundwork 865 00:42:30,920 --> 00:42:31,399 Speaker 7: for that yet? 866 00:42:31,480 --> 00:42:33,520 Speaker 5: Absolutely not, because when I look at the Ravens, I've 867 00:42:33,560 --> 00:42:37,000 Speaker 5: thought nothing adds up because they've actually got talented players 868 00:42:37,000 --> 00:42:40,520 Speaker 5: over there, like Kyle Hamilton's a really good player, Marlon 869 00:42:40,520 --> 00:42:43,279 Speaker 5: has a good corner. Alex Ki Starks I thought was 870 00:42:43,280 --> 00:42:47,200 Speaker 5: a great prospect. Rokwan Smith is a great linebacker. Your 871 00:42:47,200 --> 00:42:49,160 Speaker 5: thought they got to figure it out at some point. 872 00:42:49,320 --> 00:42:50,120 Speaker 3: Similar to what I thought. 873 00:42:50,320 --> 00:42:52,959 Speaker 5: I just don't see that talent on the Bengals roster. 874 00:42:53,480 --> 00:42:56,839 Speaker 5: And to to your Ravens point, they come out, they 875 00:42:56,840 --> 00:42:59,759 Speaker 5: play Cleveland next, and then the Jets. I mean they're 876 00:42:59,760 --> 00:43:03,319 Speaker 5: gonna right back over five hundred the Jets. By the way, 877 00:43:04,400 --> 00:43:08,680 Speaker 5: did you see justin fields line yesterday? His idea, his 878 00:43:08,760 --> 00:43:11,480 Speaker 5: final stat line had Granted he had a forty two 879 00:43:11,560 --> 00:43:14,440 Speaker 5: yard touchdown pass to Breeze Hall. He finished six of 880 00:43:14,480 --> 00:43:17,000 Speaker 5: eleven for fifty six yards. 881 00:43:17,480 --> 00:43:19,520 Speaker 4: Yeah, in a win. 882 00:43:20,280 --> 00:43:21,520 Speaker 3: And by the way, they don't win. 883 00:43:21,640 --> 00:43:25,760 Speaker 4: The good players they traded were not offensive guys. 884 00:43:25,800 --> 00:43:30,440 Speaker 5: Correct, I've never seen anything six of eleven under sixty 885 00:43:30,520 --> 00:43:33,920 Speaker 5: yards and one was a forty two yard completion to 886 00:43:33,960 --> 00:43:34,520 Speaker 5: the running back. 887 00:43:34,600 --> 00:43:36,080 Speaker 4: How many points did they score here? 888 00:43:37,719 --> 00:43:44,359 Speaker 5: Seventy thirty nine, thirty nine points and then from that 889 00:43:44,480 --> 00:43:47,520 Speaker 5: to two defensive touchdowns to get to twenty seven on 890 00:43:47,560 --> 00:43:48,000 Speaker 5: the Browns. 891 00:43:48,080 --> 00:43:50,040 Speaker 4: Well, if you look at the bengals last three games 892 00:43:50,080 --> 00:43:52,560 Speaker 4: in Chicago, did come back and win that game yesterday, 893 00:43:52,640 --> 00:43:56,840 Speaker 4: but we're talking about a Pittsburgh team that the Bengals 894 00:43:56,840 --> 00:43:59,759 Speaker 4: did beat, that scored a garbage time touchdown late. 895 00:43:59,840 --> 00:44:01,400 Speaker 3: Yet yesterday was on the. 896 00:44:01,480 --> 00:44:06,080 Speaker 4: Verge of scoring just three points against the Chargers, the Jets, 897 00:44:06,440 --> 00:44:10,319 Speaker 4: who have bookended just total ineptitude with a Bengals game 898 00:44:10,360 --> 00:44:13,120 Speaker 4: in the middle where they had their way with Cincinnati's 899 00:44:13,120 --> 00:44:16,160 Speaker 4: defense in the second half, and then the Bears last week. 900 00:44:16,400 --> 00:44:18,840 Speaker 4: And that's the scary thing about the next few games 901 00:44:18,880 --> 00:44:23,000 Speaker 4: for me is you're struggling to beat now. Caleb Williams 902 00:44:23,000 --> 00:44:25,360 Speaker 4: and the Bears are interesting and they've got some good weaponry, 903 00:44:25,400 --> 00:44:29,120 Speaker 4: but Roman Dunze wasn't a big factor in the Bengals game, right. 904 00:44:29,160 --> 00:44:34,360 Speaker 4: They didn't have their top running back Swift. The issue 905 00:44:34,360 --> 00:44:36,480 Speaker 4: with the bad defense is how you can make a 906 00:44:36,480 --> 00:44:39,200 Speaker 4: bad offense be good and a decent offense be great. 907 00:44:40,040 --> 00:44:42,840 Speaker 4: They're gonna play some like MVP candidate guys here in the. 908 00:44:42,840 --> 00:44:46,319 Speaker 5: Company, and like, if you're Pittsburgh right now, like this 909 00:44:46,520 --> 00:44:48,960 Speaker 5: is like, man, thankfully we got the Bengals to get 910 00:44:48,960 --> 00:44:51,879 Speaker 5: ourselves back, right, That's what the talk has to be. Yeah, 911 00:44:51,960 --> 00:44:54,360 Speaker 5: as bad as yesterday was, all right, well, the Bengals 912 00:44:54,360 --> 00:44:56,520 Speaker 5: are coming in, so let's get right on offense because 913 00:44:56,560 --> 00:44:59,759 Speaker 5: if not, then there's a big issue. 914 00:44:59,680 --> 00:45:01,239 Speaker 7: In I think of it. 915 00:45:01,280 --> 00:45:05,319 Speaker 5: Like we talked about the NFC side, and we you know, 916 00:45:05,320 --> 00:45:07,759 Speaker 5: there's a pipe dream and a small percentage chance of 917 00:45:07,760 --> 00:45:09,719 Speaker 5: how can the Bengals get themselves back in and can 918 00:45:09,760 --> 00:45:12,960 Speaker 5: the Bengals buy for a playoff spot. I already wonder 919 00:45:13,000 --> 00:45:16,080 Speaker 5: about teams in the AFC that I think are playoff 920 00:45:16,080 --> 00:45:19,920 Speaker 5: teams getting in, like right now if the season ended, indeed, Denver, 921 00:45:20,000 --> 00:45:24,240 Speaker 5: New England, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Buffalo, Jacksonville the seven playoff teams. 922 00:45:25,120 --> 00:45:27,320 Speaker 5: I think Kansas City's a playoff team. I think Baltimore's 923 00:45:27,320 --> 00:45:30,839 Speaker 5: a playoff team, but that would require two teams that 924 00:45:30,880 --> 00:45:34,120 Speaker 5: are in to fall out. Which teams in the AFC 925 00:45:34,280 --> 00:45:36,200 Speaker 5: right now do you see falling out? I don't know 926 00:45:36,239 --> 00:45:39,480 Speaker 5: if Jacksonville's got stay in power. Can you lose twenty 927 00:45:39,480 --> 00:45:42,560 Speaker 5: six nothing to Davis Mills in the fourth quarter, That 928 00:45:42,560 --> 00:45:44,360 Speaker 5: could be one that kind of breaks your season. But 929 00:45:45,400 --> 00:45:47,360 Speaker 5: I don't think Buffalo is gonna fall all the way out. 930 00:45:47,719 --> 00:45:49,920 Speaker 5: The Chargers. I give the Chargers a ton of credit 931 00:45:50,400 --> 00:45:54,600 Speaker 5: because they've lost two extremely talented tackles and have found 932 00:45:54,640 --> 00:45:56,239 Speaker 5: a way to be seven to three. And by the way, 933 00:45:56,280 --> 00:45:59,759 Speaker 5: I think the Chargers their next two they play the 934 00:45:59,840 --> 00:46:03,239 Speaker 5: Race and the Jags. So I think the Chargers will 935 00:46:03,239 --> 00:46:07,239 Speaker 5: be just fine. But if you're Kansas City, Baltimore, if 936 00:46:07,280 --> 00:46:13,240 Speaker 5: you're even Cincinnati, in Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, and then who else 937 00:46:13,760 --> 00:46:15,080 Speaker 5: would melt down for you to have. 938 00:46:15,080 --> 00:46:17,040 Speaker 3: A spot at the table. That's the hard part. 939 00:46:17,040 --> 00:46:19,960 Speaker 5: The numbers are extremely hard in the AFC right now, 940 00:46:20,400 --> 00:46:22,000 Speaker 5: and not a lot of great teams at the top. 941 00:46:22,280 --> 00:46:25,400 Speaker 4: I mean from a Buffalo perspective, you do look at 942 00:46:25,440 --> 00:46:30,840 Speaker 4: their schedule and it's challenging. Tampa Bay and home at Houston. 943 00:46:31,040 --> 00:46:34,239 Speaker 4: The Texans are plucky. Their offensive line is terrible, but 944 00:46:35,600 --> 00:46:41,719 Speaker 4: certainly have some interesting players on offense. Davis Mills, I 945 00:46:41,719 --> 00:46:44,319 Speaker 4: don't know how much I would call him interesting, but 946 00:46:44,440 --> 00:46:46,400 Speaker 4: was really good yesterday. And they have to go to Pittsburgh, 947 00:46:46,400 --> 00:46:47,759 Speaker 4: which is not going to be easy. They have to 948 00:46:48,080 --> 00:46:51,440 Speaker 4: host the Bengals at New England. They still have the 949 00:46:51,480 --> 00:46:55,799 Speaker 4: Eagles on their schedule. Like I think the Bills are 950 00:46:55,800 --> 00:46:58,799 Speaker 4: a little shaky. Kansas City, I don't know, you would 951 00:46:58,840 --> 00:47:03,640 Speaker 4: expect to mean terrible start, then Mahomes plays like Mahomes again, 952 00:47:04,560 --> 00:47:07,360 Speaker 4: and now it's you know, they're on the outside looking in. 953 00:47:07,440 --> 00:47:10,520 Speaker 5: But for the Chiefs, they play at Denver this week, 954 00:47:10,680 --> 00:47:14,879 Speaker 5: right and then Indy, so I mean, let's just if 955 00:47:14,920 --> 00:47:17,560 Speaker 5: you look at where the Chiefs are and everyone just 956 00:47:17,560 --> 00:47:20,000 Speaker 5: seems to think Kansas City will get it right, if 957 00:47:20,040 --> 00:47:24,200 Speaker 5: they lose the next two they're five and six, that 958 00:47:24,400 --> 00:47:27,160 Speaker 5: math becomes a lot harder. And that's a team that 959 00:47:27,239 --> 00:47:30,719 Speaker 5: still has the Chargers the Broncos twice. They got to 960 00:47:30,719 --> 00:47:32,200 Speaker 5: go on the road to the coup. Like, there's just 961 00:47:32,600 --> 00:47:33,520 Speaker 5: there's still a lot. 962 00:47:33,400 --> 00:47:34,439 Speaker 7: That can play out. 963 00:47:34,800 --> 00:47:41,319 Speaker 5: But from a numbers standpoint, it would not only take 964 00:47:41,360 --> 00:47:43,520 Speaker 5: the Bengals being a lot better, it would take some 965 00:47:43,560 --> 00:47:50,040 Speaker 5: other teams collapsing down the stretch. You so, like Joe Sah, 966 00:47:50,080 --> 00:47:51,680 Speaker 5: you look at the AFC North if you. 967 00:47:51,719 --> 00:47:54,520 Speaker 4: Well, yes, but I mean like to attach a number 968 00:47:54,640 --> 00:47:56,600 Speaker 4: that they would get in without having to lean on 969 00:47:56,640 --> 00:47:58,480 Speaker 4: a tie breaker. You got to get to ten, yeah, 970 00:47:58,600 --> 00:48:00,680 Speaker 4: which means they can lose just one more game. Now 971 00:48:00,680 --> 00:48:03,120 Speaker 4: they would win the head to head tiebreaker with Jacksonville. 972 00:48:03,640 --> 00:48:05,480 Speaker 4: If they were to beat the Buffalo Bills and being 973 00:48:05,520 --> 00:48:07,040 Speaker 4: a tiebreaker with them, they would win the head to 974 00:48:07,040 --> 00:48:10,560 Speaker 4: head tiebreaker with Buffalo. But to get in as a 975 00:48:10,640 --> 00:48:13,960 Speaker 4: wild card, they have to win all but one game 976 00:48:14,680 --> 00:48:20,000 Speaker 4: right to win the AFC North, nine wins may do it. 977 00:48:20,120 --> 00:48:22,719 Speaker 3: This division's not great. Nine wins may do it. 978 00:48:22,760 --> 00:48:25,400 Speaker 5: What Joe alluded to that today, I mean Joe's quote was, 979 00:48:25,480 --> 00:48:27,640 Speaker 5: it will be very hard for us to be a 980 00:48:27,719 --> 00:48:28,520 Speaker 5: wild card team. 981 00:48:28,680 --> 00:48:28,919 Speaker 6: Right. 982 00:48:29,200 --> 00:48:33,439 Speaker 5: The AFC North is a priority. And again, as bad 983 00:48:33,480 --> 00:48:35,560 Speaker 5: as it's been, you've taken care of business in the 984 00:48:35,560 --> 00:48:36,839 Speaker 5: AFC North so far this year. 985 00:48:36,880 --> 00:48:39,560 Speaker 4: And if you win one on Sunday, it's you head 986 00:48:39,600 --> 00:48:41,080 Speaker 4: to head with Pittsburgh as in the bag. 987 00:48:41,160 --> 00:48:45,319 Speaker 7: Correct, see, and we're talking ourselves back mo so. 988 00:48:45,719 --> 00:48:48,160 Speaker 4: But to get to nine wins, you gotta go six 989 00:48:48,239 --> 00:48:51,480 Speaker 4: and two. Yeah, how much money would you put on 990 00:48:51,480 --> 00:48:52,960 Speaker 4: this tackling six and two the rest. 991 00:48:52,840 --> 00:48:54,279 Speaker 3: Of the way. 992 00:48:54,480 --> 00:48:56,280 Speaker 7: I think I'd probably invested elsewhere. 993 00:48:57,080 --> 00:48:59,440 Speaker 4: I mean, like, and I know what folks are gonna do. 994 00:48:59,480 --> 00:49:01,880 Speaker 4: They're gonna clan to what they did last year. Yes, well, 995 00:49:01,920 --> 00:49:03,400 Speaker 4: they won five straight games. 996 00:49:04,000 --> 00:49:05,440 Speaker 7: I want this team. You don't want to see him. 997 00:49:05,719 --> 00:49:06,479 Speaker 3: I would look at. 998 00:49:06,360 --> 00:49:10,360 Speaker 4: Those five games versus any five game stretch they have 999 00:49:10,520 --> 00:49:13,240 Speaker 4: remaining and go, it ain't apples to apples. 1000 00:49:13,640 --> 00:49:19,040 Speaker 5: Give me the last three, Miami, Arizona, Cleveland. Sure, if 1001 00:49:19,120 --> 00:49:20,200 Speaker 5: you can get you to what six? 1002 00:49:20,440 --> 00:49:22,920 Speaker 4: If you can get me to that, if you can 1003 00:49:22,960 --> 00:49:26,640 Speaker 4: win four to the next five, yes, because that gets 1004 00:49:26,680 --> 00:49:28,400 Speaker 4: you to get you seven. 1005 00:49:29,120 --> 00:49:33,120 Speaker 5: And then you finish with I think three winnable games. 1006 00:49:33,200 --> 00:49:35,560 Speaker 3: Yeah, Miami on the road, Arizona, Cleveland here yep. 1007 00:49:37,120 --> 00:49:40,040 Speaker 5: And again that Miami game may be totally different because 1008 00:49:40,040 --> 00:49:43,040 Speaker 5: that Miami team that I watched yesterday looked completely different 1009 00:49:43,080 --> 00:49:45,360 Speaker 5: than the Miami team that I thought was ready to 1010 00:49:45,440 --> 00:49:48,440 Speaker 5: roll over completely going into that week. I mean, they 1011 00:49:49,160 --> 00:49:50,359 Speaker 5: dominated Buffalo. 1012 00:49:50,800 --> 00:49:55,160 Speaker 4: So the variable here is Baltimore playing well, improved defensively, 1013 00:49:56,160 --> 00:49:57,560 Speaker 4: softest schedule. 1014 00:49:57,600 --> 00:50:01,680 Speaker 5: And we've talked about this team's and ability to tackle, 1015 00:50:02,280 --> 00:50:04,320 Speaker 5: and they've not been asked to tackle Derek Henry and 1016 00:50:04,400 --> 00:50:08,440 Speaker 5: Lamar Jackson this year. They've not been asked to tackle 1017 00:50:09,160 --> 00:50:13,200 Speaker 5: you know, James Cook and Josh Allen this year. They've 1018 00:50:13,239 --> 00:50:15,760 Speaker 5: not been able to tackle, which no one could do. Yesterday, 1019 00:50:16,320 --> 00:50:19,919 Speaker 5: a Trayvon Henderson for New England running at a high level. 1020 00:50:20,000 --> 00:50:23,640 Speaker 5: We already watched them make, you know, Pat Fryermouth and 1021 00:50:23,719 --> 00:50:26,880 Speaker 5: Aaron Rodgers look like you know, Mahomes and Kelsey in 1022 00:50:26,920 --> 00:50:30,160 Speaker 5: their prime. So, as you the main point that I 1023 00:50:30,200 --> 00:50:34,160 Speaker 5: took today and as you've driven in, it's not like 1024 00:50:35,040 --> 00:50:37,839 Speaker 5: you've got this schedule shaping up to where you're going 1025 00:50:37,880 --> 00:50:40,200 Speaker 5: to be favored in six of the next seven. Right, 1026 00:50:40,880 --> 00:50:45,480 Speaker 5: your schedule alone, even if Burrow's the quarterback this week, 1027 00:50:46,000 --> 00:50:50,839 Speaker 5: is daunting. The schedule alone with this defense unless there 1028 00:50:50,920 --> 00:50:54,960 Speaker 5: is a major major change, I just don't see how 1029 00:50:55,000 --> 00:50:57,560 Speaker 5: the defense, even if Burrow's back, can do enough. 1030 00:50:57,600 --> 00:50:59,719 Speaker 4: A team that has lost six out of its last 1031 00:50:59,719 --> 00:51:02,719 Speaker 4: seven games has to play three of its next four 1032 00:51:02,880 --> 00:51:07,440 Speaker 4: on the road. Three of the quarterbacks they have played 1033 00:51:07,840 --> 00:51:11,440 Speaker 4: or will play have won the MVP Award, and Drake 1034 00:51:11,560 --> 00:51:15,640 Speaker 4: may may win it this year. Yeah, like, all right, 1035 00:51:15,760 --> 00:51:19,600 Speaker 4: Burrow is practicing. That is awesome. I think the reason 1036 00:51:19,600 --> 00:51:23,759 Speaker 4: why the excitement is muted is three and six, how 1037 00:51:23,760 --> 00:51:26,240 Speaker 4: they've looked and who they have to play. 1038 00:51:26,280 --> 00:51:28,919 Speaker 5: And I also, like before the Borough news broke today, 1039 00:51:28,920 --> 00:51:32,120 Speaker 5: what I was gonna talk about was like, there are 1040 00:51:32,160 --> 00:51:34,200 Speaker 5: the cast of teams you always know are gonna be 1041 00:51:34,440 --> 00:51:36,600 Speaker 5: tough to beat. I have seen North, You're gonna bounce 1042 00:51:36,640 --> 00:51:39,560 Speaker 5: back next year. You would imagine Cleveland has done a 1043 00:51:39,560 --> 00:51:41,840 Speaker 5: great job drafting, They're gonna be poised to be in 1044 00:51:41,840 --> 00:51:44,399 Speaker 5: a better spot. But now all of a sudden, I'm 1045 00:51:44,400 --> 00:51:49,760 Speaker 5: looking at Indy, New England, Denver. Now there's new teams 1046 00:51:49,760 --> 00:51:52,960 Speaker 5: to the party. Chargers are gonna get healthy, Kansas City 1047 00:51:53,000 --> 00:51:55,160 Speaker 5: will still be there with Mahomes, Josh Allen and Buffalo. 1048 00:51:55,520 --> 00:51:57,640 Speaker 5: All of a sudden, you start to think, like, well, 1049 00:51:57,880 --> 00:52:00,319 Speaker 5: it's not just about getting like you've got to make 1050 00:52:00,440 --> 00:52:03,720 Speaker 5: steps to make sure you're staying competitive in the AFC 1051 00:52:03,760 --> 00:52:06,319 Speaker 5: as a whole, because there are teams right now that 1052 00:52:06,360 --> 00:52:08,239 Speaker 5: have kind of taken the AFC by storm that you 1053 00:52:08,239 --> 00:52:10,920 Speaker 5: weren't counting on. Look at the top of the AFC Indian, 1054 00:52:10,920 --> 00:52:15,120 Speaker 5: New England and Depper Before the year it was what Baltimore, Buffalo, 1055 00:52:15,280 --> 00:52:18,000 Speaker 5: Kansas City. All of a sudden, there's a lot more 1056 00:52:18,080 --> 00:52:20,520 Speaker 5: teams at the at the table that you're gonna have 1057 00:52:20,520 --> 00:52:22,560 Speaker 5: to answer to, not just this year, but in the 1058 00:52:22,600 --> 00:52:25,799 Speaker 5: coming years. Are you equipping yourself the best way to 1059 00:52:25,840 --> 00:52:28,839 Speaker 5: compete going forward, not only the rest of this year, 1060 00:52:28,880 --> 00:52:32,319 Speaker 5: but going forward Like that, to me, that's the most 1061 00:52:32,360 --> 00:52:36,680 Speaker 5: fascinating thing, Like if the if you're putting your money 1062 00:52:36,680 --> 00:52:40,880 Speaker 5: down today AFC, who do you still have at the 1063 00:52:40,920 --> 00:52:44,240 Speaker 5: top to win like right now, to win the conference? 1064 00:52:44,400 --> 00:52:46,520 Speaker 5: Teams come what team comes out of the AFC. Indy, 1065 00:52:47,160 --> 00:52:49,680 Speaker 5: you like your that because like part of me is 1066 00:52:49,680 --> 00:52:52,400 Speaker 5: like still got to go through Mahomes, Like until I 1067 00:52:52,440 --> 00:52:56,399 Speaker 5: see it differently. Somebody's got to beat Mahomes, and two 1068 00:52:56,400 --> 00:52:58,239 Speaker 5: weeks from now it could be Buffalo because they could 1069 00:52:58,239 --> 00:53:01,200 Speaker 5: turn it around and play great. Sure, Baltimore could go 1070 00:53:01,200 --> 00:53:04,759 Speaker 5: on a run. Okay, there's still part of me that's 1071 00:53:05,080 --> 00:53:07,760 Speaker 5: and it's crazy because they're not even in the playoff field. Right, 1072 00:53:07,800 --> 00:53:09,879 Speaker 5: there's still part of me that's like Kansas City. 1073 00:53:09,920 --> 00:53:12,239 Speaker 4: No, it's just you say the same thing about them 1074 00:53:12,280 --> 00:53:14,719 Speaker 4: we said about the Bengals in December last year. Right, 1075 00:53:14,760 --> 00:53:17,680 Speaker 4: if you're hosting a playoff game and Number nine comes 1076 00:53:17,680 --> 00:53:19,960 Speaker 4: walking in, you don't feel great. It's the same about 1077 00:53:20,040 --> 00:53:24,960 Speaker 4: number fifteen. But having watched a half season, the team 1078 00:53:25,000 --> 00:53:27,719 Speaker 4: that has most consistently impressed me with the way they 1079 00:53:27,719 --> 00:53:29,719 Speaker 4: can throw it, run it and play bed but don't 1080 00:53:29,719 --> 00:53:32,240 Speaker 4: break defense. And they just got a great corner added 1081 00:53:32,280 --> 00:53:34,520 Speaker 4: to them. Yeh, I'll take the Colts. Yeah, twenty five 1082 00:53:34,560 --> 00:53:37,279 Speaker 4: after four. Hold the thought there on next year because 1083 00:53:37,280 --> 00:53:38,680 Speaker 4: I want to get to that. Right from there 1168 00:58:27,080 --> 00:58:27,960 Speaker 5: to the west end. 1169 00:58:28,240 --> 00:58:29,080 Speaker 3: You could pull it off. 1170 00:58:29,200 --> 00:58:29,439 Speaker 6: Yep. 1171 00:58:29,640 --> 00:58:30,240 Speaker 7: It's doable. 1172 00:58:30,280 --> 00:58:36,320 Speaker 4: It is doable. Street car gets you there, Street Carl'll 1173 00:58:36,360 --> 00:58:38,840 Speaker 4: get you there. Uber will get you there. Walking will 1174 00:58:38,880 --> 00:58:41,040 Speaker 4: get you there. You think walking would make. 1175 00:58:40,920 --> 00:58:43,480 Speaker 3: It, You can walk from absolutely. 1176 00:58:44,360 --> 00:58:47,720 Speaker 4: I used to live in the Turret Lost building, which 1177 00:58:47,800 --> 00:58:51,040 Speaker 4: is right next to TQL Stadium, so I walk from 1178 00:58:51,040 --> 00:58:54,760 Speaker 4: that building to PBS a few times. Yeah, it's do 1179 00:58:54,760 --> 00:58:56,840 Speaker 4: Double dip might be kind of cold. Hopefully it's not 1180 00:58:56,880 --> 00:59:00,760 Speaker 4: a daylight today, We'll see double dip. Let's see Tony 1181 00:59:00,800 --> 00:59:03,240 Speaker 4: and Mo Football Show, ESPN fifteen thirty. You want to 1182 00:59:03,280 --> 00:59:05,960 Speaker 4: do some college stuff in the five o'clock hour. 1183 00:59:06,040 --> 00:59:06,480 Speaker 7: I got that. 1184 00:59:07,400 --> 00:59:09,640 Speaker 4: But you brought this up as it relates to the Bengals, 1185 00:59:09,720 --> 00:59:15,840 Speaker 4: and I'm here for the very small surge of optimism 1186 00:59:15,880 --> 00:59:17,880 Speaker 4: that came with finding out that Joe Burrow is back 1187 00:59:17,880 --> 00:59:20,440 Speaker 4: in the practice field. That is a good thing. But 1188 00:59:20,520 --> 00:59:24,040 Speaker 4: you talked about like the AFC this year, which is 1189 00:59:24,120 --> 00:59:26,440 Speaker 4: wide open for the season. It was, well, there's a 1190 00:59:26,440 --> 00:59:29,720 Speaker 4: big three. It's Buffalo, Kansas City and Baltimore. Who else 1191 00:59:29,800 --> 00:59:32,640 Speaker 4: joins them? And I'm not sure any of those three 1192 00:59:32,720 --> 00:59:35,000 Speaker 4: teams would make up a Big Three right now. So 1193 00:59:35,040 --> 00:59:37,800 Speaker 4: the AFC is wide open, but you've got good franchises 1194 00:59:37,800 --> 00:59:40,320 Speaker 4: who are probably going to reload. You've got teams that 1195 00:59:40,320 --> 00:59:43,320 Speaker 4: are that feel like they're kind of set for long 1196 00:59:43,480 --> 00:59:44,560 Speaker 4: ish term success. 1197 00:59:45,240 --> 00:59:46,120 Speaker 3: Here's my question. 1198 00:59:46,320 --> 00:59:48,600 Speaker 4: The Bengals don't have a championship roster right now. Would 1199 00:59:48,600 --> 00:59:52,880 Speaker 4: you agree correct? Can you turn that in one year? 1200 00:59:53,400 --> 00:59:56,040 Speaker 4: Can you go from what the Bengals were prior to 1201 00:59:56,080 --> 00:59:58,560 Speaker 4: this season, which was a team that we thought had 1202 00:59:58,600 --> 01:00:01,320 Speaker 4: a chance to be pretty good, but we weren't talking 1203 01:00:01,320 --> 01:00:04,320 Speaker 4: about in championship terms, to a team that this year 1204 01:00:05,200 --> 01:00:08,080 Speaker 4: as maybe the worst defense in the history of the sport, 1205 01:00:08,360 --> 01:00:12,080 Speaker 4: to one that next year is legitimately thought of as 1206 01:00:12,120 --> 01:00:14,240 Speaker 4: a Super Bowl championship. 1207 01:00:13,680 --> 01:00:17,400 Speaker 5: Contender without any major changes in the staff. I don't 1208 01:00:17,400 --> 01:00:21,360 Speaker 5: think so, Like say what you want, Duke Tobin has 1209 01:00:21,400 --> 01:00:23,680 Speaker 5: not been able to get this together, and it's not 1210 01:00:23,800 --> 01:00:28,080 Speaker 5: just been under Joe Burrow. After Carson signed his deal, 1211 01:00:28,760 --> 01:00:31,640 Speaker 5: they had a under five hundred record and the remaining 1212 01:00:32,080 --> 01:00:36,080 Speaker 5: tenure of Carson Palmer, after Andy Dalton's deal under five 1213 01:00:36,160 --> 01:00:39,080 Speaker 5: hundred in the remaining tenure of Andy Dalton, and since 1214 01:00:39,120 --> 01:00:42,040 Speaker 5: Burrow signed his deal, they're now under five hundred in 1215 01:00:42,120 --> 01:00:44,480 Speaker 5: the tenure, so it's not just been a flash in 1216 01:00:44,520 --> 01:00:47,960 Speaker 5: the pan. Duke Tobin has been fantastic when it comes 1217 01:00:48,000 --> 01:00:49,760 Speaker 5: to putting a roster together. 1218 01:00:49,560 --> 01:00:51,720 Speaker 7: With a quarterback on a team friendly deal. 1219 01:00:52,520 --> 01:00:54,640 Speaker 5: When you got to pay the quarterback and in their case, 1220 01:00:54,640 --> 01:00:57,720 Speaker 5: you got to pay both wide receivers, how are you 1221 01:00:58,360 --> 01:01:00,720 Speaker 5: able to build that roster successful? They've not done it 1222 01:01:00,720 --> 01:01:03,440 Speaker 5: in the draft. They've hit on some free agents, but 1223 01:01:03,440 --> 01:01:07,080 Speaker 5: they've also missed on decisions like they are still reeling 1224 01:01:07,120 --> 01:01:10,680 Speaker 5: from letting Andrew Whitworth go, they are still reeling from 1225 01:01:10,760 --> 01:01:16,960 Speaker 5: letting Jesse Bates go. It's just where where is the 1226 01:01:17,000 --> 01:01:19,560 Speaker 5: equity been built up that they can get this thing 1227 01:01:19,600 --> 01:01:21,240 Speaker 5: turned around and build it And to your point, like 1228 01:01:22,400 --> 01:01:24,680 Speaker 5: Buffalo's gonna have staying power as long as Josh Allen's 1229 01:01:24,680 --> 01:01:31,720 Speaker 5: the quarterback. New England Drake May rookie quarterback, that's gonna 1230 01:01:31,760 --> 01:01:35,480 Speaker 5: be easy, easier to build around. In the AFC North, 1231 01:01:36,080 --> 01:01:39,360 Speaker 5: I don't expect Pittsburgh to disappear for long in the 1232 01:01:39,400 --> 01:01:43,040 Speaker 5: AFC North. I don't expect the Baltimore Ravens to go 1233 01:01:43,080 --> 01:01:47,520 Speaker 5: anywhere in the South Indy like they've got it with 1234 01:01:47,600 --> 01:01:50,600 Speaker 5: Daniel Jones. They just went all in with Sauce Gardner 1235 01:01:51,320 --> 01:01:55,120 Speaker 5: not going anywhere anytime soon, and and and the rest 1236 01:01:55,120 --> 01:01:57,920 Speaker 5: of the South, Like I think Cohen's a good spot 1237 01:01:57,920 --> 01:02:02,560 Speaker 5: in Jacksonville, Houston's an interesting team. And then in the West, 1238 01:02:03,040 --> 01:02:05,800 Speaker 5: as long as Mahomes is the quarterback, they'll have a say. 1239 01:02:06,400 --> 01:02:09,919 Speaker 5: The Chargers under Harball with Herbert and getting their two 1240 01:02:09,960 --> 01:02:13,080 Speaker 5: tackles back next year, are going to have a significant 1241 01:02:13,080 --> 01:02:17,160 Speaker 5: seat at the table. And the Denver Broncos right now 1242 01:02:17,560 --> 01:02:19,440 Speaker 5: have the longest winning streak and football with the New 1243 01:02:19,440 --> 01:02:24,480 Speaker 5: England Patriots. So like is it's becoming harder and harder 1244 01:02:24,480 --> 01:02:26,960 Speaker 5: and harder. I mentioned this before going into this year. 1245 01:02:27,000 --> 01:02:30,320 Speaker 5: It was Buffalo, Kansas City, Baltimore, That's all anyone talks about. 1246 01:02:31,120 --> 01:02:34,600 Speaker 5: And now you're talking about much deeper AFC. And it 1247 01:02:34,640 --> 01:02:36,840 Speaker 5: doesn't feel like any of the teams we just talked 1248 01:02:36,840 --> 01:02:39,600 Speaker 5: about are one and done type teams. It feels like 1249 01:02:39,640 --> 01:02:43,840 Speaker 5: they're here to be competitive going forward. What do you 1250 01:02:43,880 --> 01:02:45,760 Speaker 5: have for the Bengals that makes you think, Okay, they're 1251 01:02:45,760 --> 01:02:48,160 Speaker 5: going to be able to reload in a year with 1252 01:02:48,480 --> 01:02:51,000 Speaker 5: how bad this defense is and probably still figure out 1253 01:02:51,040 --> 01:02:53,160 Speaker 5: things on the offensive line and get it fixed. 1254 01:02:53,200 --> 01:02:57,360 Speaker 4: And I'm not interested in Hey, next year if they 1255 01:02:57,440 --> 01:03:01,480 Speaker 4: missed the postseason this year, year year, they can get 1256 01:03:01,480 --> 01:03:04,400 Speaker 4: to nine wins. Ah, that's not as the seventh. This 1257 01:03:04,480 --> 01:03:08,240 Speaker 4: is super winning a championship. And I think that's the 1258 01:03:08,280 --> 01:03:10,840 Speaker 4: issue right now. It feels like they are so far 1259 01:03:10,920 --> 01:03:16,200 Speaker 4: away A with the roster, B with the the landscape 1260 01:03:16,200 --> 01:03:19,440 Speaker 4: of the AFC and C with what you just outlined, 1261 01:03:19,480 --> 01:03:22,880 Speaker 4: the poor track record of Duke Tobin trying to build 1262 01:03:23,000 --> 01:03:26,760 Speaker 4: Super Bowl championship teams when he's got the quarterback under 1263 01:03:26,760 --> 01:03:30,320 Speaker 4: a second deal. Do you think though, that if the 1264 01:03:30,360 --> 01:03:33,840 Speaker 4: Bengals moved on from Duke Tobin, that his success or 1265 01:03:33,880 --> 01:03:41,400 Speaker 4: whoever that is, could put the Bengals in a position 1266 01:03:41,480 --> 01:03:44,400 Speaker 4: to compete for a championship next year? Like, is that 1267 01:03:44,560 --> 01:03:47,800 Speaker 4: undertaking doable if you hired the right guy? 1268 01:03:47,840 --> 01:03:50,280 Speaker 5: I think so yeah, Because again I think the biggest 1269 01:03:50,320 --> 01:03:53,840 Speaker 5: disconnect has been scheme versus personnel. So if a new 1270 01:03:53,880 --> 01:03:56,080 Speaker 5: guy is coming in, that has to be the first 1271 01:03:56,080 --> 01:03:59,080 Speaker 5: thing you're on. Is Zach the head coach? And if so, 1272 01:03:59,440 --> 01:04:04,800 Speaker 5: does the g matched the scheme and personnel roster that 1273 01:04:05,480 --> 01:04:08,360 Speaker 5: they want to run with. This roster doesn't match with 1274 01:04:08,400 --> 01:04:10,960 Speaker 5: the scheme. It doesn't the way the offensive line is 1275 01:04:11,000 --> 01:04:14,920 Speaker 5: a symbol doesn't match with who they are offensively, defense 1276 01:04:15,160 --> 01:04:19,480 Speaker 5: meshes nowhere together, and again to me, it's you know, 1277 01:04:19,560 --> 01:04:21,480 Speaker 5: people go back. Well, Duke Tobin was the executive of 1278 01:04:21,480 --> 01:04:25,520 Speaker 5: the year. I get that, Duke Tobin, and I pulled 1279 01:04:25,520 --> 01:04:29,120 Speaker 5: the stat up. Duke Tobin has always built a competitive 1280 01:04:29,120 --> 01:04:31,920 Speaker 5: team until he's had to pay the quarterback. Carson Palmer 1281 01:04:31,960 --> 01:04:35,120 Speaker 5: got paid in two thousand and five after that thirty 1282 01:04:35,120 --> 01:04:37,760 Speaker 5: three and forty six, one playoff appearance and a loss. 1283 01:04:38,200 --> 01:04:41,280 Speaker 5: Andy Dalton got paid in twenty fourteen, thirty three and 1284 01:04:41,360 --> 01:04:44,480 Speaker 5: forty six after that one playoff appearance and a loss. 1285 01:04:44,840 --> 01:04:48,960 Speaker 5: Since Joe Burrow got paid zero playoff appearances and they're 1286 01:04:49,000 --> 01:04:53,040 Speaker 5: twelve and fourteen, Like that is that's a track record. 1287 01:04:53,880 --> 01:04:56,800 Speaker 5: Great when you got a rookie deal. Bad after that, 1288 01:04:57,280 --> 01:05:00,000 Speaker 5: this team and they've not been able to figure out 1289 01:05:00,080 --> 01:05:02,680 Speaker 5: how to formulate the roster when you've got to pay 1290 01:05:02,680 --> 01:05:04,840 Speaker 5: a quarterback a lot of money and not only a quarterback, 1291 01:05:05,840 --> 01:05:06,440 Speaker 5: a wide. 1292 01:05:06,200 --> 01:05:08,760 Speaker 7: Receiver, two wide receivers. Yeah, so top end money. 1293 01:05:08,800 --> 01:05:12,120 Speaker 5: So that that's an uphill battle, right, So you have 1294 01:05:12,160 --> 01:05:13,720 Speaker 5: to do what draft well. 1295 01:05:13,600 --> 01:05:15,479 Speaker 4: Well, yeah, you have to try to build the team 1296 01:05:15,520 --> 01:05:17,880 Speaker 4: moving forward the same way that Duke Tobin has tried 1297 01:05:17,880 --> 01:05:19,400 Speaker 4: to build the team the last couple of years and 1298 01:05:19,400 --> 01:05:22,640 Speaker 4: has failed miserably. So why am I to believe that 1299 01:05:22,680 --> 01:05:24,880 Speaker 4: if you give him more cracks of doing the same thing, 1300 01:05:25,400 --> 01:05:27,120 Speaker 4: that he's going to achieve better results. 1301 01:05:27,640 --> 01:05:28,080 Speaker 3: You can't. 1302 01:05:28,240 --> 01:05:31,320 Speaker 5: And for years it was what it was, Well, you 1303 01:05:31,360 --> 01:05:33,520 Speaker 5: can't pay Whitworth and still put this team together. You 1304 01:05:33,560 --> 01:05:36,400 Speaker 5: can't pay Jesse Bates and still put this team together, 1305 01:05:36,720 --> 01:05:38,240 Speaker 5: and then it will well you can't pay Tea and 1306 01:05:38,280 --> 01:05:41,240 Speaker 5: then keep trying like it's always something. You can't do 1307 01:05:41,280 --> 01:05:43,880 Speaker 5: this and have that. Good teams find a way to 1308 01:05:43,880 --> 01:05:46,320 Speaker 5: make it work. Good teams find a way to build 1309 01:05:46,360 --> 01:05:49,120 Speaker 5: the roster. Good teams find a way to identify talent 1310 01:05:49,200 --> 01:05:52,440 Speaker 5: in the draft. That again I went. I mentioned this 1311 01:05:52,480 --> 01:05:56,680 Speaker 5: with Jack Sawyer last week. I watched Ohio State play, 1312 01:05:57,200 --> 01:05:59,800 Speaker 5: and when I watched Ohio State play, I thought to myself, 1313 01:06:00,040 --> 01:06:03,440 Speaker 5: Jack Sawyer is a good football play. Jack Sawyer is 1314 01:06:03,440 --> 01:06:06,720 Speaker 5: one of the highest graded rookies in the National Football 1315 01:06:06,760 --> 01:06:09,040 Speaker 5: League right now heading out. He was directed in the 1316 01:06:09,040 --> 01:06:11,600 Speaker 5: fourth round. A lot of teams passed on him. But 1317 01:06:12,000 --> 01:06:15,200 Speaker 5: all we're told here normally is other's The numbers just 1318 01:06:15,240 --> 01:06:19,480 Speaker 5: don't match he's a step slow or doesn't jump as 1319 01:06:19,600 --> 01:06:24,320 Speaker 5: the explosiveness, you know, undersized. Instead, all we're told is 1320 01:06:24,360 --> 01:06:28,960 Speaker 5: what measurables. Going back to John Ross, what about John 1321 01:06:29,040 --> 01:06:31,520 Speaker 5: Ross other than you had the fastest forty made him 1322 01:06:31,560 --> 01:06:35,480 Speaker 5: a viable option? What about Shamar Stewart this year? Four 1323 01:06:35,560 --> 01:06:39,440 Speaker 5: and a half sacks in three years at college? But man, 1324 01:06:39,600 --> 01:06:43,920 Speaker 5: look at the physical traits that you cannot rely on 1325 01:06:43,960 --> 01:06:46,320 Speaker 5: that when you're trying to build a super Bowl winning team, 1326 01:06:46,640 --> 01:06:49,520 Speaker 5: you can't just rely on Well, the production wasn't there, 1327 01:06:49,560 --> 01:06:50,440 Speaker 5: but we'll get it out of him. 1328 01:06:50,440 --> 01:06:52,760 Speaker 3: Here, go get guys at play Like. 1329 01:06:52,840 --> 01:06:55,480 Speaker 5: You watch enough football, you can turn on a game 1330 01:06:56,200 --> 01:06:57,760 Speaker 5: and see, Okay, that guy's a playmaker. 1331 01:06:57,880 --> 01:06:59,800 Speaker 7: That's not Rodriguez from Texas Tech. 1332 01:07:00,120 --> 01:07:01,840 Speaker 5: I'm sure there'll be people that's why he's a little 1333 01:07:01,840 --> 01:07:04,280 Speaker 5: bit undersize, or maybe he's a step slow. I watch 1334 01:07:04,320 --> 01:07:05,880 Speaker 5: that guy and I think that dude can make place. 1335 01:07:06,600 --> 01:07:09,520 Speaker 5: Give me eleven of those guys on the defensive side 1336 01:07:09,520 --> 01:07:13,280 Speaker 5: of the ball that are productive and not just well, 1337 01:07:13,320 --> 01:07:15,440 Speaker 5: we got to develop and the physical traits are there. 1338 01:07:15,440 --> 01:07:18,720 Speaker 5: Because I heard that with Miles Murphy, heard that with Josephosai, 1339 01:07:19,200 --> 01:07:22,400 Speaker 5: I've heard that with Shamar Stewart. I heard a lot 1340 01:07:22,400 --> 01:07:25,760 Speaker 5: about Barret Carter and Demetrius Knight. They're smart because they're older. 1341 01:07:27,560 --> 01:07:30,800 Speaker 5: The trade stuff just is give me production, Give me 1342 01:07:30,920 --> 01:07:33,760 Speaker 5: guys that produce and win in college and build your 1343 01:07:33,760 --> 01:07:34,360 Speaker 5: team that way. 1344 01:07:35,960 --> 01:07:38,120 Speaker 7: I don't trust right now that Duke Tobin can do that. 1345 01:07:38,720 --> 01:07:44,040 Speaker 4: And I don't maybe, but I don't envision a scenario 1346 01:07:44,520 --> 01:07:48,080 Speaker 4: where the Bengals shift their priorities when it comes to 1347 01:07:48,120 --> 01:07:51,160 Speaker 4: what they prefer with kids coming out of college. 1348 01:07:52,040 --> 01:07:53,680 Speaker 3: I just maybe I'm wrong. 1349 01:07:54,120 --> 01:07:56,840 Speaker 4: Maybe the bottoming out, of the bottoming out of the 1350 01:07:56,880 --> 01:07:59,400 Speaker 4: defense and all the failed draft choices in recent years 1351 01:08:00,600 --> 01:08:02,640 Speaker 4: is gonna compel Duke Tobin to go. You know what, 1352 01:08:03,000 --> 01:08:04,840 Speaker 4: I need to focus more on what the guy does 1353 01:08:04,880 --> 01:08:06,640 Speaker 4: in games. I need to look at the statute. I 1354 01:08:06,720 --> 01:08:10,040 Speaker 4: need to actually watch the tape of the game itself, sure, 1355 01:08:10,240 --> 01:08:14,720 Speaker 4: instead of, you know, paying attention to the raw measurables. 1356 01:08:15,160 --> 01:08:17,400 Speaker 4: But I don't think that's gonna happen, right I think 1357 01:08:17,439 --> 01:08:20,719 Speaker 4: this is a franchise that is famously stubborn. Duke Tobin 1358 01:08:20,760 --> 01:08:23,439 Speaker 4: is a big part of this franchise. My guess is 1359 01:08:23,600 --> 01:08:27,880 Speaker 4: next year, in the draft, at some point early we're 1360 01:08:27,880 --> 01:08:29,640 Speaker 4: gonna hear about a guy who's a little bit of 1361 01:08:29,680 --> 01:08:30,320 Speaker 4: a project. 1362 01:08:30,400 --> 01:08:32,760 Speaker 7: Oh but but I mean you see his forty. 1363 01:08:32,800 --> 01:08:36,559 Speaker 4: Marcus Hunt was drafted by this team in twenty thirteen. 1364 01:08:37,479 --> 01:08:40,920 Speaker 4: And what I remember about Marcus Hunt was, you know 1365 01:08:41,000 --> 01:08:43,960 Speaker 4: what he is great throwing the shot put? 1366 01:08:44,400 --> 01:08:46,000 Speaker 7: Yeah, do you see his broad jump? 1367 01:08:46,400 --> 01:08:49,240 Speaker 4: But when you get to look at this dude's frame 1368 01:08:49,320 --> 01:08:52,160 Speaker 4: and I go, yeah, but at SMU he didn't make 1369 01:08:52,200 --> 01:08:55,120 Speaker 4: any plays. Well, he was really good at blocking kicks. Like, 1370 01:08:55,240 --> 01:08:57,639 Speaker 4: that's neat took a guy in the second round because 1371 01:08:57,640 --> 01:08:59,520 Speaker 4: he could throw the shot put in block kicks. 1372 01:08:59,479 --> 01:09:03,200 Speaker 5: Right, That was that who It's been twelve years ago. 1373 01:09:06,160 --> 01:09:09,280 Speaker 5: Like Miles Murphy. You go to a training camp practice. 1374 01:09:09,400 --> 01:09:11,720 Speaker 5: You look at Miles Murphy like that guy's got to 1375 01:09:11,720 --> 01:09:14,519 Speaker 5: be an all pro, Yes, but he didn't produce. It's 1376 01:09:14,800 --> 01:09:16,519 Speaker 5: one thing to look that way. It's one thing to 1377 01:09:16,560 --> 01:09:20,160 Speaker 5: have the measurables. You also got to be a football player. Like, 1378 01:09:20,600 --> 01:09:22,240 Speaker 5: there are guys that can make up with a little 1379 01:09:22,280 --> 01:09:25,559 Speaker 5: lack of explosiveness just because they're smart. Like I go 1380 01:09:25,640 --> 01:09:27,840 Speaker 5: back to a guy that I got to watch, Luke 1381 01:09:27,920 --> 01:09:31,680 Speaker 5: Keigley was never gonna win a forty yard dash. He 1382 01:09:31,720 --> 01:09:33,840 Speaker 5: probably wasn't gonna be the most explosive guy in the 1383 01:09:33,920 --> 01:09:37,280 Speaker 5: room wasn't going to be the most athletic, but he's 1384 01:09:37,280 --> 01:09:40,080 Speaker 5: the smartest, yeah, and he knew what was coming, so 1385 01:09:40,120 --> 01:09:40,679 Speaker 5: he could. 1386 01:09:40,439 --> 01:09:41,760 Speaker 7: Get a head start that way. 1387 01:09:41,840 --> 01:09:45,440 Speaker 5: Like, there are ways to get around just raw athleticism 1388 01:09:45,800 --> 01:09:47,679 Speaker 5: and the problem they've just not been able. 1389 01:09:47,479 --> 01:09:49,599 Speaker 7: To develop the players they've drafted. 1390 01:09:50,560 --> 01:09:52,240 Speaker 5: And then when you do take a chance on a 1391 01:09:52,240 --> 01:09:55,200 Speaker 5: Shamar Stewart, you can't have the guy sit out all 1392 01:09:55,240 --> 01:09:59,080 Speaker 5: off season Like that just makes it worse. Right, here's 1393 01:09:59,120 --> 01:10:01,360 Speaker 5: a guy that had four and a half sacks in 1394 01:10:01,439 --> 01:10:05,240 Speaker 5: three years and he's not gonna do anything in the offseason, 1395 01:10:05,439 --> 01:10:06,880 Speaker 5: but then he's gonna be really a guy that you 1396 01:10:06,960 --> 01:10:08,400 Speaker 5: got to rely on to help win games. 1397 01:10:08,560 --> 01:10:11,720 Speaker 4: I guess the frustrating thing about Shamar Stewart in particular 1398 01:10:12,000 --> 01:10:14,200 Speaker 4: is it was a really good class of edge guys. 1399 01:10:14,200 --> 01:10:17,640 Speaker 5: Oh right, yep, you know, I watched Dophin Azeraku. I 1400 01:10:17,640 --> 01:10:20,080 Speaker 5: mean there's but that's the same thing we're talking about. 1401 01:10:20,160 --> 01:10:23,559 Speaker 5: We talked about last week about what receivers from last 1402 01:10:23,640 --> 01:10:26,280 Speaker 5: year's draft, and we're talking about Jermaine Burton that's not 1403 01:10:26,360 --> 01:10:30,320 Speaker 5: dressed like McKinley Jackson. It just it goes on and 1404 01:10:30,360 --> 01:10:33,360 Speaker 5: on with so many different it's not one position specific, 1405 01:10:34,400 --> 01:10:36,719 Speaker 5: it's just it's been a comedy of airs. 1406 01:10:37,439 --> 01:10:39,840 Speaker 4: It is eight away from five o'clock where a Twin 1407 01:10:39,880 --> 01:10:42,200 Speaker 4: Peaks in Westchester. Joe Burrow back practicing 1456 01:13:13,560 --> 01:13:17,840 Speaker 4: limited capacity. He's not gonna play on Sunday. That's what 1457 01:13:17,960 --> 01:13:21,920 Speaker 4: Zach Taylor says. Here's what I want to know. What 1458 01:13:22,080 --> 01:13:27,519 Speaker 4: will the Bengals record be on Thanksgiving morning? Bengals play 1459 01:13:27,600 --> 01:13:32,800 Speaker 4: Baltimore that day. I think the target is for Joe 1460 01:13:32,840 --> 01:13:35,480 Speaker 4: Burrow to come back and play against the Ravens. Yeah, 1461 01:13:35,600 --> 01:13:39,519 Speaker 4: they have two games at Pittsburgh, home for New England. 1462 01:13:40,520 --> 01:13:43,599 Speaker 4: Little Twitter poll, Oh thanks to night at Heartland Insurance 1463 01:13:43,680 --> 01:13:46,720 Speaker 4: check out you someone could just go to yeah i 1464 01:13:46,960 --> 01:13:49,880 Speaker 4: ns dot com vote and vote right now. Just posted it. 1465 01:13:50,560 --> 01:13:56,679 Speaker 4: Five and six, four and seven, three and eight or 1466 01:13:56,760 --> 01:13:57,959 Speaker 4: a tie will be involved. 1467 01:13:58,080 --> 01:14:07,200 Speaker 5: Oh oh, four and seven. Find a way to win 1468 01:14:07,200 --> 01:14:11,280 Speaker 5: one of the next two. I don't see a I 1469 01:14:11,280 --> 01:14:17,720 Speaker 5: don't see a path that they win both. Yeah, I 1470 01:14:19,080 --> 01:14:20,439 Speaker 5: think I would lean four and seven. 1471 01:14:21,120 --> 01:14:22,720 Speaker 3: If they are four and seven. 1472 01:14:24,320 --> 01:14:29,000 Speaker 4: And Joe has responded well to practice and he's getting better, 1473 01:14:29,040 --> 01:14:32,120 Speaker 4: and he's in a place physically and mentally where he 1474 01:14:32,160 --> 01:14:32,799 Speaker 4: thinks he could. 1475 01:14:32,680 --> 01:14:35,679 Speaker 3: Play against Baltimore, would you run him out there. 1476 01:14:36,240 --> 01:14:39,320 Speaker 5: At four and seven? There will still probably be a chance, 1477 01:14:40,000 --> 01:14:43,280 Speaker 5: knowing Joe Burrow, like Joe Burrow is going to put 1478 01:14:43,439 --> 01:14:46,360 Speaker 5: himself out there, So yeah, I think he'll still be 1479 01:14:46,400 --> 01:14:51,639 Speaker 5: out there. I worry because so much of what we've 1480 01:14:52,280 --> 01:14:56,080 Speaker 5: built the Joe Flacco conversation with is the under center stuff. 1481 01:14:56,840 --> 01:15:00,760 Speaker 5: I just don't I just don't view Joe is saying 1482 01:15:00,760 --> 01:15:02,599 Speaker 5: I'm gonna come back and know I'm gonna go under center, 1483 01:15:03,040 --> 01:15:06,639 Speaker 5: especially with the left toe. Like I just logistic wise, 1484 01:15:06,880 --> 01:15:08,960 Speaker 5: if you're lining up under center, the left foot is 1485 01:15:08,960 --> 01:15:10,880 Speaker 5: what you're gonna push off of every time you get 1486 01:15:10,920 --> 01:15:13,080 Speaker 5: away from center. I just don't think you want to 1487 01:15:13,080 --> 01:15:15,000 Speaker 5: mess with that as much. Right, So then you're gonna 1488 01:15:15,000 --> 01:15:18,160 Speaker 5: have to go back and resort to what shotgun, which 1489 01:15:18,360 --> 01:15:20,200 Speaker 5: the running game couldn't get going in shotgun. 1490 01:15:20,560 --> 01:15:22,360 Speaker 7: The old line struggled with the shotgun. 1491 01:15:22,920 --> 01:15:25,840 Speaker 5: I just think you're running yourself in circles because I 1492 01:15:25,840 --> 01:15:27,639 Speaker 5: don't think the old line's good enough. 1493 01:15:27,640 --> 01:15:27,800 Speaker 6: Now. 1494 01:15:27,840 --> 01:15:30,160 Speaker 5: Do I think they'll put him back out there? Absolutely, 1495 01:15:30,280 --> 01:15:32,160 Speaker 5: it's a way to I mean people are gonna come 1496 01:15:32,200 --> 01:15:35,439 Speaker 5: and want to watch that anyway. Even I think if 1497 01:15:35,439 --> 01:15:36,880 Speaker 5: they're three and eight, they'll put them out there. 1498 01:15:37,320 --> 01:15:37,760 Speaker 6: I don't think. 1499 01:15:37,800 --> 01:15:40,320 Speaker 3: I don't agree with it, but I think they will. 1500 01:15:40,560 --> 01:15:41,320 Speaker 3: At three and eight. 1501 01:15:41,400 --> 01:15:44,599 Speaker 4: I would tell Joe, here's a ball cap, correct said, 1502 01:15:45,120 --> 01:15:46,360 Speaker 4: enjoy watching Joe Flacca. 1503 01:15:46,479 --> 01:15:47,640 Speaker 7: What would be his response? 1504 01:15:48,200 --> 01:15:49,800 Speaker 3: He wouldn't be happy about it. That's fine. I don't 1505 01:15:49,800 --> 01:15:50,280 Speaker 3: want him to be. 1506 01:15:50,320 --> 01:15:52,840 Speaker 5: But that's the same thing like he wasn't happy about 1507 01:15:52,880 --> 01:15:56,320 Speaker 5: the under center conversation, and they came back and didn't 1508 01:15:56,320 --> 01:15:59,280 Speaker 5: go under center again, even though we saw Jake Browning 1509 01:15:59,360 --> 01:16:03,439 Speaker 5: have success running under center, so like we've already seen 1510 01:16:03,479 --> 01:16:06,880 Speaker 5: this before. Of well, they operate better than but Joe 1511 01:16:06,880 --> 01:16:08,920 Speaker 5: don't like to do it, and they're gonna do what 1512 01:16:09,000 --> 01:16:09,960 Speaker 5: Joe is wanting to do. 1513 01:16:10,080 --> 01:16:12,400 Speaker 7: So I think overall that's my concern. 1514 01:16:12,520 --> 01:16:14,599 Speaker 4: I think, if if he could play, as long as 1515 01:16:14,600 --> 01:16:18,719 Speaker 4: they are mathematically alive, if he can play, if they're 1516 01:16:18,720 --> 01:16:21,960 Speaker 4: mathematically alive, which they're they're not gonna be mathematically eliminated 1517 01:16:21,960 --> 01:16:24,760 Speaker 4: from a playoff spot if they lose their next two. 1518 01:16:26,080 --> 01:16:26,840 Speaker 4: He's gonna play. 1519 01:16:27,040 --> 01:16:27,280 Speaker 6: Yeah. 1520 01:16:27,560 --> 01:16:30,000 Speaker 4: I mean, it's not like they benched him last year 1521 01:16:30,000 --> 01:16:31,439 Speaker 4: towards the end of the year because they had a 1522 01:16:31,439 --> 01:16:34,599 Speaker 4: mathematical chance of making the postseason until the very last game. 1523 01:16:34,680 --> 01:16:37,080 Speaker 5: Three and eight with six to go would almost be 1524 01:16:37,160 --> 01:16:38,280 Speaker 5: mathematically eliminated. 1525 01:16:39,880 --> 01:16:40,120 Speaker 4: Yeah. 1526 01:16:41,120 --> 01:16:43,480 Speaker 7: I think I think ten has to be the number. 1527 01:16:43,640 --> 01:16:44,720 Speaker 3: To get it as a wild card. 1528 01:16:44,840 --> 01:16:47,280 Speaker 7: Yes, you only got six games left. 1529 01:16:47,479 --> 01:16:49,599 Speaker 4: Yeah, but then nine and eight. Can nine and eight 1530 01:16:49,640 --> 01:16:50,360 Speaker 4: get the division? 1531 01:16:50,560 --> 01:16:52,480 Speaker 6: Yeah? 1532 01:16:52,840 --> 01:16:57,439 Speaker 4: I think it's a fascinating conversation when you talk about 1533 01:16:57,720 --> 01:17:01,040 Speaker 4: what Joe wants versus what the team wants. Yeah, Joe 1534 01:17:01,120 --> 01:17:03,519 Speaker 4: is very powerful. He's the reason why T Higgins is 1535 01:17:03,560 --> 01:17:08,040 Speaker 4: on this roster. But you are allowed to tell him no. 1536 01:17:08,120 --> 01:17:11,360 Speaker 4: And like, I expect the guy to want to play. 1537 01:17:11,880 --> 01:17:14,960 Speaker 4: He's a competitive dude. He loves to play, Like I 1538 01:17:15,080 --> 01:17:19,040 Speaker 4: expect him to want to play. I appreciate that the 1539 01:17:19,080 --> 01:17:22,800 Speaker 4: Bengals have to protect their investment. He remains the most 1540 01:17:22,840 --> 01:17:25,640 Speaker 4: important investment in the history of the franchise. 1541 01:17:25,240 --> 01:17:25,880 Speaker 7: Without a doubt. 1542 01:17:25,960 --> 01:17:29,720 Speaker 4: Putting him out there in games that don't count is irresponsible. 1543 01:17:31,560 --> 01:17:35,760 Speaker 5: Yeah, And my concern would be, what's the worst case 1544 01:17:35,760 --> 01:17:38,360 Speaker 5: scenario he gets hurt again? He gets he goes out 1545 01:17:38,400 --> 01:17:40,200 Speaker 5: there and he gets hurt again. Yeah, and then the 1546 01:17:40,240 --> 01:17:43,720 Speaker 5: whole the conversation completely changes about your future as a franchise. 1547 01:17:44,520 --> 01:17:48,360 Speaker 5: So yeah, it's hard to Again, this would be so 1548 01:17:48,439 --> 01:17:50,760 Speaker 5: much easier had they just by scoring thirty eight and 1549 01:17:50,800 --> 01:17:53,360 Speaker 5: forty two won both games. And they're five and four today, right, 1550 01:17:53,680 --> 01:17:56,040 Speaker 5: and it's like five and four going to Pittsburgh sethons 1551 01:17:56,040 --> 01:17:56,320 Speaker 5: back on. 1552 01:17:57,120 --> 01:17:57,439 Speaker 7: They're not. 1553 01:17:58,439 --> 01:17:59,799 Speaker 3: They are what their record shows. 1554 01:17:59,800 --> 01:18:03,360 Speaker 5: So you have to hold your players accountable with what's 1555 01:18:03,360 --> 01:18:06,160 Speaker 5: best for the future of the franchise as well. 1556 01:18:07,280 --> 01:18:11,760 Speaker 4: And yet, despite what we have watched from this team 1557 01:18:11,800 --> 01:18:14,960 Speaker 4: defensively all season long, despite the fact that they have 1558 01:18:15,040 --> 01:18:18,080 Speaker 4: lost six out of seven games, despite the fact that 1559 01:18:18,120 --> 01:18:21,440 Speaker 4: the five and a half point Dogs winning in Pittsburgh 1560 01:18:22,640 --> 01:18:23,720 Speaker 4: is not inconceivable. 1561 01:18:23,800 --> 01:18:26,439 Speaker 5: No, and if that's the case, it's not. If that's 1562 01:18:26,439 --> 01:18:29,200 Speaker 5: the case, then it's okay. New England's good, right, But 1563 01:18:29,240 --> 01:18:31,799 Speaker 5: can they find a way at home to beat New England, 1564 01:18:32,080 --> 01:18:34,519 Speaker 5: get a lead? Make drake Drake may play from behind, 1565 01:18:34,600 --> 01:18:37,439 Speaker 5: like there are conversations that you open yourself up to 1566 01:18:38,160 --> 01:18:41,640 Speaker 5: if you've been if you win in Pittsburgh, but you 1567 01:18:41,680 --> 01:18:43,519 Speaker 5: got to know what you're like We've talked for years 1568 01:18:43,520 --> 01:18:47,640 Speaker 5: about matching intensity, Like you know, Mike Tomlin carries this 1569 01:18:47,680 --> 01:18:48,799 Speaker 5: week differently in Pittsburgh. 1570 01:18:48,840 --> 01:18:50,360 Speaker 4: Yeah, but you know what, and you know, at five 1571 01:18:50,400 --> 01:18:52,840 Speaker 4: and four, I'll say this, I don't buy that nearly 1572 01:18:52,880 --> 01:18:53,320 Speaker 4: as much. 1573 01:18:53,560 --> 01:18:59,040 Speaker 5: I think they understand they're playing for their their season now. Yeah, 1574 01:18:59,120 --> 01:19:00,719 Speaker 5: like Baltimore is on their heel. 1575 01:19:00,960 --> 01:19:02,000 Speaker 6: Uh huh. 1576 01:19:02,280 --> 01:19:03,960 Speaker 5: I don't know if it's a different level of like 1577 01:19:04,000 --> 01:19:07,960 Speaker 5: that they looked last night unfocused, they looked last night 1578 01:19:08,400 --> 01:19:12,120 Speaker 5: ill prepared. Is that the same team you see? Like 1579 01:19:12,640 --> 01:19:15,120 Speaker 5: I was shocked when they came here. They ran man 1580 01:19:15,240 --> 01:19:17,400 Speaker 5: a man as much as they did right they got torched. 1581 01:19:18,400 --> 01:19:20,919 Speaker 5: Is it a team that now swallow takes their medicine 1582 01:19:21,360 --> 01:19:24,000 Speaker 5: and says, Okay, we're gonna go zone. We think we 1583 01:19:24,040 --> 01:19:26,559 Speaker 5: can still score on this Bengals defense, but we're gonna 1584 01:19:26,560 --> 01:19:28,760 Speaker 5: slow them down a little bit. Like I think there's 1585 01:19:28,800 --> 01:19:31,519 Speaker 5: so many fascinating things about it. But you know, if 1586 01:19:31,520 --> 01:19:34,559 Speaker 5: they find a way to win Sunday, then everyone jumps 1587 01:19:34,600 --> 01:19:34,880 Speaker 5: back in. 1588 01:19:35,000 --> 01:19:38,040 Speaker 4: No, no, no question on my mind. That the Pittsburgh thing. 1589 01:19:39,560 --> 01:19:43,160 Speaker 4: I know what that looks like. When the Mike Tomlin 1590 01:19:43,240 --> 01:19:47,120 Speaker 4: team shows up and is which I thought they did 1591 01:19:47,120 --> 01:19:48,200 Speaker 4: against Indy last week. 1592 01:19:48,280 --> 01:19:49,679 Speaker 3: Is there for a fight? Yeah? 1593 01:19:50,640 --> 01:19:52,120 Speaker 4: I thought we would see it when they were here 1594 01:19:52,160 --> 01:19:54,559 Speaker 4: because they had just beaten Cleveland and that that was 1595 01:19:54,560 --> 01:19:54,960 Speaker 4: the chance. 1596 01:19:54,960 --> 01:19:56,000 Speaker 3: We talked about it going in. 1597 01:19:57,520 --> 01:19:59,200 Speaker 7: They could put a stranglehold on the North. 1598 01:19:59,280 --> 01:20:02,920 Speaker 4: Pretty much, and the AFC North Race at least put 1599 01:20:02,960 --> 01:20:06,200 Speaker 4: Cincinnati out of its misery. Aaron Rodgers did a lot 1600 01:20:06,240 --> 01:20:09,360 Speaker 4: of awesome things against the terrible Bengals defense. Pat Fryermuth 1601 01:20:09,400 --> 01:20:11,719 Speaker 4: is an All Pro when he plays against Cincinnati. Yep, 1602 01:20:11,920 --> 01:20:15,080 Speaker 4: But I didn't see it from Mike Tomlin's team last night. 1603 01:20:15,720 --> 01:20:18,639 Speaker 4: Then I'm watching last night on Sunday Night Football, thinking, 1604 01:20:18,680 --> 01:20:20,640 Speaker 4: you know what, if you're a Steeler fan, it's like 1605 01:20:20,880 --> 01:20:22,639 Speaker 4: I already saw the Ravens win. We got that game 1606 01:20:22,680 --> 01:20:27,960 Speaker 4: against the Colts. We saw Baltimore win. Our season effectively 1607 01:20:28,000 --> 01:20:32,120 Speaker 4: starts tonight. Aaron Rodgers looked ancient. That team didn't bring 1608 01:20:32,120 --> 01:20:34,400 Speaker 4: the level of physicality that you expect. Come back to 1609 01:20:34,439 --> 01:20:37,240 Speaker 4: the playoff game last year, where the Baltimore Ravens didn't 1610 01:20:37,240 --> 01:20:40,720 Speaker 4: exactly dive deep into the playbook. They basically said we're 1611 01:20:40,760 --> 01:20:43,320 Speaker 4: gonna push you around, and they did. That was kind 1612 01:20:43,320 --> 01:20:47,439 Speaker 4: of Pittsburgh's mom down the stretch last year. So look, 1613 01:20:47,560 --> 01:20:50,720 Speaker 4: the Bengals against anybody, it's an uphill battle because defensively 1614 01:20:50,720 --> 01:20:51,560 Speaker 4: they're atrocious. 1615 01:20:52,280 --> 01:20:52,920 Speaker 3: But what you. 1616 01:20:52,880 --> 01:20:56,439 Speaker 4: Expect the Steelers to be often hasn't been what they've been. 1617 01:20:56,640 --> 01:20:58,559 Speaker 4: And I don't think that would be that surprising if 1618 01:20:58,560 --> 01:21:00,000 Speaker 4: that was the case on Sunday. 1619 01:21:00,160 --> 01:21:05,840 Speaker 5: Yeah, I just you know here in Cincinnati, if they 1620 01:21:05,880 --> 01:21:10,920 Speaker 5: can find a way to beat Pittsburgh, because then almost mentally, 1621 01:21:10,920 --> 01:21:13,560 Speaker 5: you check yourself into Burrow will be back against Baltimore. 1622 01:21:14,479 --> 01:21:16,040 Speaker 5: Can they get by a week? Can they find a 1623 01:21:16,040 --> 01:21:18,200 Speaker 5: way to win one game they're probably not supposed to 1624 01:21:18,240 --> 01:21:21,160 Speaker 5: win against New England and all of a sudden, it's 1625 01:21:21,200 --> 01:21:23,000 Speaker 5: go time, let's go, let's make a run at to 1626 01:21:23,080 --> 01:21:23,679 Speaker 5: down the stretch. 1627 01:21:24,200 --> 01:21:27,800 Speaker 4: Do you think Joe Burrow accelerated his recovery so he 1628 01:21:27,840 --> 01:21:29,679 Speaker 4: could practice against the Bengals defense. 1629 01:21:30,200 --> 01:21:31,559 Speaker 5: I think that would go a long way in it. 1630 01:21:31,960 --> 01:21:34,840 Speaker 5: I think him getting to practice against this first unit, Yeah, 1631 01:21:35,000 --> 01:21:37,560 Speaker 5: probably gives him confidence that would be unmatched. 1632 01:21:37,160 --> 01:21:39,080 Speaker 4: Which, like you know what, I don't know how good 1633 01:21:39,080 --> 01:21:41,000 Speaker 4: I'll be against the teams we play. 1634 01:21:41,200 --> 01:21:43,200 Speaker 5: I actually hope that UC would have done that during 1635 01:21:43,200 --> 01:21:47,400 Speaker 5: the bye week. I was hoping that Scott Sadderfield was like, hey, pal, 1636 01:21:48,320 --> 01:21:52,080 Speaker 5: your defense stinks. My offense needs to get this consistency thing. 1637 01:21:52,800 --> 01:21:54,639 Speaker 5: Let's go at it. But the Bengals can never cover 1638 01:21:54,720 --> 01:21:57,240 Speaker 5: tight ends. You think Joe Royer would get some touches 1639 01:21:57,479 --> 01:22:00,879 Speaker 5: in that make believe scrimmage. We're back 1664 01:23:21,439 --> 01:23:23,519 Speaker 4: in Florence a week from today, the day after the 1665 01:23:23,560 --> 01:23:31,080 Speaker 4: Bengals play the Pittsburgh Steelers next Monday. Will we be 1666 01:23:31,240 --> 01:23:38,040 Speaker 4: talking about a big twelve showdown between Cincinnati and BYU, 1667 01:23:38,120 --> 01:23:41,280 Speaker 4: both going in with one loss in the league. 1668 01:23:42,200 --> 01:23:42,600 Speaker 7: I think so. 1669 01:23:43,640 --> 01:23:48,000 Speaker 5: I mean, I think on the UC side of things, 1670 01:23:49,200 --> 01:23:51,920 Speaker 5: if you take care of your business early and get 1671 01:23:52,000 --> 01:23:54,800 Speaker 5: back to doing what you've done best, which is run 1672 01:23:54,840 --> 01:23:57,960 Speaker 5: the ball, you swersby and get him comfortable the passing 1673 01:23:58,000 --> 01:23:59,960 Speaker 5: game Ben, but don't break on the defensive side of 1674 01:24:00,040 --> 01:24:01,920 Speaker 5: More importantly, special teams has to get back to who 1675 01:24:01,920 --> 01:24:05,040 Speaker 5: they are. But I think I think they beat Arizona 1676 01:24:06,000 --> 01:24:09,639 Speaker 5: BYU and this will this will hold true for UC 1677 01:24:09,800 --> 01:24:12,400 Speaker 5: as well. That's a this is a tough spot for 1678 01:24:12,439 --> 01:24:14,760 Speaker 5: b YU because you go Texas Tech. You got UC 1679 01:24:14,960 --> 01:24:18,479 Speaker 5: next week. TCU is a good team. TCU can give 1680 01:24:18,680 --> 01:24:20,479 Speaker 5: BYU some fits this weekend. They've got to get it 1681 01:24:20,560 --> 01:24:23,320 Speaker 5: right as well. But yes, I think at this time 1682 01:24:23,400 --> 01:24:27,599 Speaker 5: next week UC had won, BYU had won, and we're 1683 01:24:27,640 --> 01:24:31,679 Speaker 5: talking about an opportunity to go into the final week 1684 01:24:31,680 --> 01:24:34,160 Speaker 5: of the season with a chance to go to a 1685 01:24:34,160 --> 01:24:35,000 Speaker 5: Big twelve title game. 1686 01:24:35,080 --> 01:24:35,280 Speaker 6: Yeah. 1687 01:24:35,360 --> 01:24:38,799 Speaker 4: Obviously, Texas Tech beat BYU and beat him pretty soundly. 1688 01:24:38,880 --> 01:24:42,400 Speaker 4: The Red Raiders right now, frankly, look like the best 1689 01:24:42,400 --> 01:24:44,719 Speaker 4: team in the conference, and they only have two league 1690 01:24:44,760 --> 01:24:48,200 Speaker 4: games remaining, and they're not against tough opponents West Virginia. 1691 01:24:48,320 --> 01:24:52,760 Speaker 5: I was told we went to lubback last year, and 1692 01:24:53,680 --> 01:24:55,280 Speaker 5: I remember I was talking to someone at the dinner. 1693 01:24:55,320 --> 01:24:58,120 Speaker 5: We went to a Texas Tech fan and he said, 1694 01:24:58,720 --> 01:25:02,200 Speaker 5: if they can identify the correct talent, they will be 1695 01:25:02,240 --> 01:25:06,880 Speaker 5: a perennial contender in this landscape of college sports. They 1696 01:25:06,920 --> 01:25:12,200 Speaker 5: have spent seven million dollars on their defensive line. They 1697 01:25:12,280 --> 01:25:16,040 Speaker 5: are a top ten offensive and defensive team in football. 1698 01:25:17,400 --> 01:25:20,519 Speaker 5: They are a I think a top ten basketball team. Yeah, 1699 01:25:20,960 --> 01:25:25,080 Speaker 5: like you think, Like it's what Jerry Jones Stadium that 1700 01:25:25,120 --> 01:25:27,960 Speaker 5: they play in, Patrick Mahomes. They've got a lucrative deal 1701 01:25:27,960 --> 01:25:29,840 Speaker 5: with Adidas. Are you trying to suck up the Joe 1702 01:25:29,840 --> 01:25:33,400 Speaker 5: Walter They've got well this Joe and I might have 1703 01:25:33,400 --> 01:25:36,720 Speaker 5: a side bet Hoppen, but they are. I think that 1704 01:25:36,840 --> 01:25:39,720 Speaker 5: the thing is they've identified the talent and they've got 1705 01:25:39,720 --> 01:25:43,000 Speaker 5: it right. They are as well balanced as you can get. 1706 01:25:43,640 --> 01:25:46,879 Speaker 5: But like there's no there's no talk of donor fatigue 1707 01:25:46,880 --> 01:25:51,519 Speaker 5: in Lubbock, Like that's not a thing there. It's oil 1708 01:25:52,360 --> 01:25:56,800 Speaker 5: Jerry Jones, Patrick Mahomes, Like there is there's money down there, 1709 01:25:56,800 --> 01:25:59,479 Speaker 5: like we we saw the facilities, we saw the press box, 1710 01:25:59,479 --> 01:26:03,280 Speaker 5: the stadium. I just think they've identified the talent. Like 1711 01:26:04,040 --> 01:26:06,479 Speaker 5: we talk about this with the Bengals, Like I think 1712 01:26:06,520 --> 01:26:09,519 Speaker 5: they know like how they want to build the roster 1713 01:26:09,560 --> 01:26:11,479 Speaker 5: based on how they want to play, and I think 1714 01:26:11,560 --> 01:26:13,759 Speaker 5: that matches and messes with what they're doing right now. 1715 01:26:14,280 --> 01:26:17,800 Speaker 5: They are they're twenty four and a half, their twenty 1716 01:26:17,800 --> 01:26:20,040 Speaker 5: four faite point favorite. This week, they're gonna be big 1717 01:26:20,080 --> 01:26:21,480 Speaker 5: favorites against West Virginia. 1718 01:26:21,600 --> 01:26:22,599 Speaker 7: Texas Tech's gonna. 1719 01:26:22,439 --> 01:26:27,160 Speaker 5: Play in Dallas. Yes you seeing BYU have a chance 1720 01:26:27,200 --> 01:26:29,559 Speaker 5: to go at it if both take care of business 1721 01:26:29,640 --> 01:26:32,320 Speaker 5: this weekend. To take one step further into who can 1722 01:26:32,400 --> 01:26:33,840 Speaker 5: be that team that goes and plays Texas Tech. 1723 01:26:33,840 --> 01:26:35,880 Speaker 4: If the bear Cats went out, they'll play the Texas 1724 01:26:35,920 --> 01:26:37,960 Speaker 4: Tech Red Raiders in Dallas. Will see how that goes. 1725 01:26:38,000 --> 01:26:39,920 Speaker 3: The Red Raiders have lost one game in the league. 1726 01:26:40,479 --> 01:26:43,920 Speaker 4: Their starting quarterback, Baron Morton didn't play against Arizona State. 1727 01:26:43,960 --> 01:26:46,920 Speaker 3: They lost that game by four. I'm curious. 1728 01:26:49,040 --> 01:26:51,680 Speaker 4: I guess what I'm curious about the Bearcats is how 1729 01:26:51,760 --> 01:26:55,000 Speaker 4: much of what we saw against Utah is a one off? 1730 01:26:55,479 --> 01:26:59,879 Speaker 4: The bad special teams play the turnovers, But more than anything, 1731 01:27:00,640 --> 01:27:02,880 Speaker 4: Brendan Sows the middle of the season last year has 1732 01:27:02,920 --> 01:27:05,760 Speaker 4: a bad game. Yep, never could put the toothpaste back 1733 01:27:05,800 --> 01:27:08,800 Speaker 4: in the tube. Does the Utah game prove to be 1734 01:27:08,960 --> 01:27:11,599 Speaker 4: just a bad night for him or is it the 1735 01:27:11,640 --> 01:27:16,280 Speaker 4: beginning of a personal slide that the team is maybe 1736 01:27:16,439 --> 01:27:18,639 Speaker 4: not quite good enough to help him recover from. 1737 01:27:18,920 --> 01:27:23,880 Speaker 5: Yeah, my worry with them. The two best defenses they've 1738 01:27:23,920 --> 01:27:29,840 Speaker 5: played this year. Wide receivers have struggled like they were 1739 01:27:29,920 --> 01:27:33,280 Speaker 5: couldn't get open. They were non existing against Nebraska, and 1740 01:27:35,240 --> 01:27:38,280 Speaker 5: they left Brendan Soresby no room to throw deep balls 1741 01:27:38,640 --> 01:27:43,479 Speaker 5: at Utah. I mean they were They were pushed out 1742 01:27:43,479 --> 01:27:46,400 Speaker 5: physical at the wide receiver level outside of the Cyrus 1743 01:27:46,400 --> 01:27:50,960 Speaker 5: Allen big play. Yeah, And what's been lacking or what 1744 01:27:51,000 --> 01:27:54,960 Speaker 5: hasn't been lacking, is the rhythm offensively. Sworsby didn't really 1745 01:27:55,040 --> 01:27:58,160 Speaker 5: use his legs against Utah. They were down Evan Pryor. 1746 01:27:58,200 --> 01:27:59,720 Speaker 5: I thought that'd be more of a game plan. You 1747 01:27:59,800 --> 01:28:03,680 Speaker 5: and I talk all the time about Joe Royer. It 1748 01:28:03,760 --> 01:28:06,120 Speaker 5: felt like it was weird because as bad as it was, 1749 01:28:06,200 --> 01:28:09,000 Speaker 5: it felt like the defense gave them chances. Yeah, they 1750 01:28:09,080 --> 01:28:11,680 Speaker 5: cut it to ten. Defense got a pick. Yeah, and 1751 01:28:11,720 --> 01:28:12,479 Speaker 5: the second half they. 1752 01:28:12,360 --> 01:28:13,040 Speaker 7: Got the ball back. 1753 01:28:13,720 --> 01:28:16,760 Speaker 5: But their margin for a Your margin for aer in 1754 01:28:16,800 --> 01:28:21,559 Speaker 5: big games is minuscule. We said going into the Utah game, 1755 01:28:22,920 --> 01:28:25,280 Speaker 5: you have no margin for air. And they had too 1756 01:28:25,320 --> 01:28:29,040 Speaker 5: many swords be fumbled inside the twenty he threw another interception. 1757 01:28:29,720 --> 01:28:33,720 Speaker 5: Special teams was a disaster. Too many things happen. You're 1758 01:28:33,720 --> 01:28:34,639 Speaker 5: not gonna win a game like. 1759 01:28:34,600 --> 01:28:35,000 Speaker 6: That, right. 1760 01:28:35,840 --> 01:28:38,479 Speaker 5: Can you get back to who you've been for a 1761 01:28:38,520 --> 01:28:41,439 Speaker 5: majority of the year, and more importantly, can you get 1762 01:28:41,439 --> 01:28:43,879 Speaker 5: that like swagger and confidence back that they've carried themselves 1763 01:28:43,880 --> 01:28:46,880 Speaker 5: with because that was gone last year. 1764 01:28:46,960 --> 01:28:50,519 Speaker 4: No outcome these final three games would surprise me. 1765 01:28:50,960 --> 01:28:52,160 Speaker 7: Yeah, I think that's the hard part. 1766 01:28:52,439 --> 01:28:56,040 Speaker 4: I mean, I certainly don't want this to happen. Yeah, 1767 01:28:56,080 --> 01:28:58,479 Speaker 4: but if they lost the next three, yep, I don't 1768 01:28:58,479 --> 01:28:59,439 Speaker 4: think that's a huge shock. 1769 01:28:59,479 --> 01:29:00,000 Speaker 7: I don't either. 1770 01:29:00,280 --> 01:29:03,200 Speaker 4: If they win the next three, I don't think that's 1771 01:29:03,200 --> 01:29:03,840 Speaker 4: a huge shock. 1772 01:29:04,080 --> 01:29:05,120 Speaker 6: Yeah. 1773 01:29:05,120 --> 01:29:09,960 Speaker 4: The possibilities kind of run the gamut. What that tells 1774 01:29:10,000 --> 01:29:11,920 Speaker 4: me is they're probably not going to do either. 1775 01:29:12,560 --> 01:29:13,679 Speaker 7: Yeah, be somewhere in the middle. 1776 01:29:13,800 --> 01:29:15,439 Speaker 3: Somewhere in the middle two and one or one and two. 1777 01:29:15,920 --> 01:29:19,439 Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I have not started a ton on 1778 01:29:19,520 --> 01:29:22,120 Speaker 5: Arizona yet, but I do know in a lot of 1779 01:29:22,160 --> 01:29:24,800 Speaker 5: their games they've been competitive this year. Yeah, six and three, 1780 01:29:24,840 --> 01:29:28,400 Speaker 5: I mean that BYU Arizona game. I remember watching over. 1781 01:29:28,479 --> 01:29:29,880 Speaker 5: We had a wedding that night. I remember going to 1782 01:29:29,920 --> 01:29:32,880 Speaker 5: we were watching the double overtime. It took b WYU 1783 01:29:32,920 --> 01:29:37,840 Speaker 5: to win that game. I'm interested. It feels like one 1784 01:29:37,880 --> 01:29:40,679 Speaker 5: of those games Arizona Houston was thirty one, twenty eight. 1785 01:29:41,400 --> 01:29:44,080 Speaker 5: It feels like one of those that you got to 1786 01:29:44,320 --> 01:29:46,639 Speaker 5: you gotta get up early. Yeah, you got to take 1787 01:29:46,640 --> 01:29:49,639 Speaker 5: care of business. Like you and I were both impressed 1788 01:29:49,640 --> 01:29:52,080 Speaker 5: with Kansas. They have a win against Kansas, like the 1789 01:29:52,200 --> 01:29:53,559 Speaker 5: Arizona's got some good wins this year. 1790 01:29:53,640 --> 01:29:55,120 Speaker 4: Won the game in Kansas kind of the way the 1791 01:29:55,160 --> 01:29:56,960 Speaker 4: Bearcats did with the last second touchdown. 1792 01:29:57,040 --> 01:29:57,920 Speaker 3: Yeah, this is. 1793 01:29:57,840 --> 01:30:01,280 Speaker 4: One of those where you know, folks don't love not 1794 01:30:01,479 --> 01:30:04,880 Speaker 4: having Nippet night with My guess is BYU will be 1795 01:30:04,960 --> 01:30:07,160 Speaker 4: a night game if it is what we think it 1796 01:30:07,200 --> 01:30:09,760 Speaker 4: can be. Yeah, and if you if you got to 1797 01:30:09,800 --> 01:30:12,160 Speaker 4: play a noon game, better to do it against a 1798 01:30:12,200 --> 01:30:13,880 Speaker 4: team that's traveling three times on And. 1799 01:30:13,840 --> 01:30:16,759 Speaker 5: It's also like it's been the game on the schedule 1800 01:30:16,760 --> 01:30:20,000 Speaker 5: that's just kind of sandwiched awkwardly. Everyone's talking about Utah, 1801 01:30:20,400 --> 01:30:24,000 Speaker 5: everyone's talking about BYU. You gotta take care of business Saturday, yeah, 1802 01:30:24,120 --> 01:30:26,439 Speaker 5: or else all the work you've done, yeah, kind of 1803 01:30:26,479 --> 01:30:28,680 Speaker 5: falls flat. Like think of the air out of the 1804 01:30:28,720 --> 01:30:31,439 Speaker 5: bubble if you lose Saturday and then the BYU game 1805 01:30:31,479 --> 01:30:34,200 Speaker 5: because now you're you know, it's an uphill battle and 1806 01:30:34,240 --> 01:30:35,800 Speaker 5: you're still playing for some because you never know how 1807 01:30:35,800 --> 01:30:39,200 Speaker 5: the two loss team can shake out. But man, I 1808 01:30:40,320 --> 01:30:43,200 Speaker 5: want so bad to have a nip at night with 1809 01:30:43,280 --> 01:30:45,439 Speaker 5: both BYU and UC with one loss in the league 1810 01:30:46,240 --> 01:30:49,360 Speaker 5: like that atmosphere. Yes, that that's what I want. That's 1811 01:30:49,400 --> 01:30:51,320 Speaker 5: what you signed up to play in the Big twelve? 1812 01:30:51,560 --> 01:30:52,799 Speaker 7: Correct? Correct? 1813 01:30:53,040 --> 01:30:55,200 Speaker 3: And it's attainable. 1814 01:30:56,880 --> 01:31:01,760 Speaker 4: I just again the Utah game, there were so many 1815 01:31:01,920 --> 01:31:07,280 Speaker 4: things that have been characteristic about this team that bubbled 1816 01:31:07,320 --> 01:31:10,920 Speaker 4: to the surface against the Utes. I'm interested in how 1817 01:31:11,000 --> 01:31:14,560 Speaker 4: much all that stuff proves to be an outlier. 1818 01:31:14,320 --> 01:31:18,880 Speaker 5: Yep or ends up being someone that dooms this season, 1819 01:31:18,960 --> 01:31:21,200 Speaker 5: Like by this time next week we're saying here we 1820 01:31:21,240 --> 01:31:23,920 Speaker 5: go again. Or man, they put that past them and 1821 01:31:24,000 --> 01:31:27,320 Speaker 5: it was one bad game, right, because the way Utah plays, 1822 01:31:28,040 --> 01:31:29,880 Speaker 5: a lot of teams probably say that was a bad 1823 01:31:29,880 --> 01:31:33,680 Speaker 5: game for us. I mean, they are physical, but you 1824 01:31:33,760 --> 01:31:36,040 Speaker 5: knew that. You knew that atmosphere out there was incredible, 1825 01:31:36,080 --> 01:31:36,479 Speaker 5: you knew. 1826 01:31:36,320 --> 01:31:37,599 Speaker 4: They were going to run the ball, you knew that 1827 01:31:37,680 --> 01:31:40,120 Speaker 4: it was how they how the Bearcats were complicit in 1828 01:31:40,120 --> 01:31:42,640 Speaker 4: their own demid Yep, specifically at quarterback. 1829 01:31:42,840 --> 01:31:43,200 Speaker 7: Correct. 1830 01:31:44,320 --> 01:31:46,800 Speaker 3: And I wonder about that because. 1831 01:31:46,560 --> 01:31:48,960 Speaker 4: Last year I saw Sores be down the stretch where 1832 01:31:48,960 --> 01:31:52,519 Speaker 4: it just it blew up and he said, a very 1833 01:31:52,560 --> 01:31:56,920 Speaker 4: good season. But I I am curious, does the one 1834 01:31:57,000 --> 01:31:59,760 Speaker 4: bad game end up being one bad game or does 1835 01:31:59,760 --> 01:32:02,040 Speaker 4: it into four because last year it turned into five. 1836 01:32:02,040 --> 01:32:03,639 Speaker 5: I'll tell you what I don't want to see Saturday. 1837 01:32:04,240 --> 01:32:07,080 Speaker 5: A ball batted down on the first possession because I 1838 01:32:07,479 --> 01:32:10,960 Speaker 5: legitimately thought that that that Toyd with sores be a 1839 01:32:10,960 --> 01:32:14,120 Speaker 5: little bit I think it. You know, you think of 1840 01:32:14,160 --> 01:32:17,599 Speaker 5: the next set of throws he made. None were over 1841 01:32:17,640 --> 01:32:20,599 Speaker 5: the middle for quite some time. It was low percentage 1842 01:32:20,640 --> 01:32:25,439 Speaker 5: outside throws that just low likelihood and completion. 1843 01:32:25,520 --> 01:32:26,719 Speaker 3: Let's tell you what I want to see. 1844 01:32:27,160 --> 01:32:28,720 Speaker 4: I want to see in the first play of the game, 1845 01:32:28,760 --> 01:32:30,559 Speaker 4: in eight yard pass to Joe Royer. 1846 01:32:31,120 --> 01:32:33,479 Speaker 5: You know what's crazy, I should love people you and 1847 01:32:33,520 --> 01:32:36,280 Speaker 5: I don't get paid money to talk about Joe Royer. No, 1848 01:32:36,640 --> 01:32:40,600 Speaker 5: Like I think Joe's a great player, great family. Like 1849 01:32:41,439 --> 01:32:44,320 Speaker 5: I just can't I can't fathom, like for like, from 1850 01:32:44,320 --> 01:32:49,439 Speaker 5: playing quarterback, a favorable matchup at tight end is one 1851 01:32:49,439 --> 01:32:52,160 Speaker 5: of the best things you can have, Like think of 1852 01:32:52,920 --> 01:32:55,680 Speaker 5: Mahomes and Kelsey, Like there's a reason that's been Like 1853 01:32:56,400 --> 01:32:59,160 Speaker 5: if you've got a favorable matchup at tight end that 1854 01:32:59,479 --> 01:33:02,840 Speaker 5: alleviate it's a lot of problems. H And I am 1855 01:33:02,960 --> 01:33:06,600 Speaker 5: shocked that we are in year two of this with 1856 01:33:06,720 --> 01:33:09,360 Speaker 5: three games to go, still talking about Man, it just 1857 01:33:09,400 --> 01:33:11,040 Speaker 5: doesn't feel like they're utilizing it. 1858 01:33:11,080 --> 01:33:13,160 Speaker 4: And you've brought this up before. We're not paid to 1859 01:33:13,200 --> 01:33:15,519 Speaker 4: talk about Joe vill No, but there's two things. 1860 01:33:15,560 --> 01:33:16,360 Speaker 3: I'll give you. One. 1861 01:33:16,600 --> 01:33:18,320 Speaker 4: You know, I live on the west side of Cincinnati. 1862 01:33:18,680 --> 01:33:21,360 Speaker 4: I can't go anywhere without somebody asking me, like, why 1863 01:33:21,840 --> 01:33:23,760 Speaker 4: why is it your guy throw Joe Royer at the ball? 1864 01:33:23,880 --> 01:33:24,360 Speaker 3: Number Two? 1865 01:33:25,240 --> 01:33:28,720 Speaker 4: You and I read draft list, Yes, we read evaluations. 1866 01:33:29,160 --> 01:33:29,639 Speaker 3: Everybody. 1867 01:33:29,800 --> 01:33:31,640 Speaker 4: The NFL people love Joe Royer. The people who do 1868 01:33:31,720 --> 01:33:34,599 Speaker 4: the NFL draft leees love Joe Royer and so. 1869 01:33:34,840 --> 01:33:37,240 Speaker 5: And by all accounts, like when I see stuff like 1870 01:33:37,360 --> 01:33:40,800 Speaker 5: posted by UC Yeah, I see traveling with the team. 1871 01:33:41,080 --> 01:33:44,200 Speaker 5: They're great friends. It's not like they hate each other 1872 01:33:44,280 --> 01:33:48,639 Speaker 5: off the field, like they are legitimately great friends. Nothing 1873 01:33:48,680 --> 01:33:50,679 Speaker 5: about it makes sense nothing. 1874 01:33:52,800 --> 01:33:54,599 Speaker 4: I'm pulling it up here. So that's why you hear 1875 01:33:54,680 --> 01:33:56,920 Speaker 4: the hesitation. But I mean, if you just look at 1876 01:33:56,920 --> 01:34:00,400 Speaker 4: the numbers, twenty three catches on the season for three 1877 01:34:00,479 --> 01:34:04,599 Speaker 4: hundred and fifty yards, and I think, what was it, 1878 01:34:05,439 --> 01:34:07,200 Speaker 4: five of those catches came in one game. 1879 01:34:07,680 --> 01:34:09,400 Speaker 3: Yeah, he's got a. 1880 01:34:09,400 --> 01:34:12,559 Speaker 4: Pass each each of the last two. Prior to the 1881 01:34:12,560 --> 01:34:15,200 Speaker 4: five catch game, that one went for sixty seven yards. 1882 01:34:15,200 --> 01:34:20,400 Speaker 4: He had two catches. Like what I watch on Saturdays 1883 01:34:20,720 --> 01:34:22,200 Speaker 4: doesn't mesh with. 1884 01:34:22,360 --> 01:34:25,320 Speaker 7: What two and a half catches per game, right, doesn't. 1885 01:34:24,880 --> 01:34:27,639 Speaker 4: Mesh with what I know about Joe Royer and how 1886 01:34:29,120 --> 01:34:31,479 Speaker 4: how in high regard he is held. 1887 01:34:31,680 --> 01:34:33,439 Speaker 3: And it's one thing when they're winning, Yep. 1888 01:34:33,920 --> 01:34:36,160 Speaker 4: It's something else when you see a game like Saturday 1889 01:34:36,200 --> 01:34:40,200 Speaker 4: against Utah last week and the offense isn't working and 1890 01:34:40,400 --> 01:34:41,880 Speaker 4: it felt like he wasn't even a part of the 1891 01:34:41,880 --> 01:34:42,320 Speaker 4: game plan. 1892 01:34:42,479 --> 01:34:45,120 Speaker 5: Yeah, in a game you were already shorthanded without your 1893 01:34:45,320 --> 01:34:49,559 Speaker 5: leading back right and your receivers were struggling to get separation. 1894 01:34:50,240 --> 01:34:53,360 Speaker 5: That didn't make sense. So yeah, the hope is it's 1895 01:34:53,360 --> 01:34:56,479 Speaker 5: a one off. The hopes is they bounce back and 1896 01:34:56,960 --> 01:34:57,639 Speaker 5: you go from there. 1897 01:34:57,760 --> 01:35:01,040 Speaker 4: I just first play, give me make it a ten, 1898 01:35:01,200 --> 01:35:03,559 Speaker 4: Make it a first and ten pass for ten yards. 1899 01:35:04,240 --> 01:35:07,040 Speaker 4: That number one is a high, high percentage completion for 1900 01:35:07,080 --> 01:35:09,960 Speaker 4: Brendan Sores. Meet number two announces, here's the guy you 1901 01:35:09,960 --> 01:35:13,160 Speaker 4: gotta stop. Yep, this is the NFL guy on our offense. 1902 01:35:13,240 --> 01:35:14,760 Speaker 7: Here's the guy. Yeah. 1903 01:35:15,120 --> 01:35:16,960 Speaker 4: During the by a week we decided, you know what, 1904 01:35:17,479 --> 01:35:19,080 Speaker 4: you're gonna have to figure out a way to stop 1905 01:35:19,120 --> 01:35:22,120 Speaker 4: our NFL tight end. I don't get it, man. 1906 01:35:22,280 --> 01:35:24,800 Speaker 7: Yeah, it's baffled me for a year and a half. 1907 01:35:25,120 --> 01:35:27,720 Speaker 4: Yeah, this goes back to last year. Yeah, like Joe 1908 01:35:27,800 --> 01:35:30,800 Speaker 4: Royer had forty five catches last season, which I think, Yeah, 1909 01:35:30,800 --> 01:35:34,080 Speaker 4: it's a team school school record. The numbers should have 1910 01:35:34,120 --> 01:35:37,799 Speaker 4: been closer to sixty five. I think 1970 01:38:35,560 --> 01:38:41,479 Speaker 5: the build up between Louisville and Kentucky, albeit like weird 1971 01:38:41,479 --> 01:38:45,000 Speaker 5: as you said, because they're playing so early, but the 1972 01:38:45,120 --> 01:38:49,280 Speaker 5: Louisville player essentially leaving the press conference with Antham, I 1973 01:38:49,280 --> 01:38:51,960 Speaker 5: think just adds to the rivalry. And I also think 1974 01:38:52,000 --> 01:38:55,800 Speaker 5: like more of a of a the personality the coach 1975 01:38:55,880 --> 01:38:58,240 Speaker 5: is showing through, Like I could see Kelsey in like 1976 01:38:58,280 --> 01:39:00,920 Speaker 5: the meetings, like, hey, this is Pope's just kind of 1977 01:39:00,920 --> 01:39:03,160 Speaker 5: like a little laid back and yeah, and I think 1978 01:39:03,160 --> 01:39:06,120 Speaker 5: that's how the two sides have kind of reacted towards it. 1979 01:39:05,960 --> 01:39:11,200 Speaker 4: It also feels like, you know, Louisville went through a lot, yeah, 1980 01:39:11,400 --> 01:39:15,920 Speaker 4: Chris Mack post Chris Mack, And it feels like Pat 1981 01:39:16,040 --> 01:39:20,240 Speaker 4: Kelsey has the program on very and I think Mark 1982 01:39:20,280 --> 01:39:22,479 Speaker 4: Pope has a team that has a shot at least 1983 01:39:22,479 --> 01:39:23,879 Speaker 4: offensively and being really. 1984 01:39:23,680 --> 01:39:25,040 Speaker 3: Good like it. 1985 01:39:25,040 --> 01:39:27,280 Speaker 4: It feels like, I have no idea why they're playing 1986 01:39:27,280 --> 01:39:31,519 Speaker 4: this early, but it feels like that rivalry has a 1987 01:39:31,680 --> 01:39:35,639 Speaker 4: chance to be what it should be and to a degree, 1988 01:39:35,760 --> 01:39:37,599 Speaker 4: really hasn't been in recent years. 1989 01:39:38,000 --> 01:39:40,040 Speaker 5: And both teams playing well in the early part of 1990 01:39:40,040 --> 01:39:45,519 Speaker 5: their schedule. And I think it's interesting watching tonight becuz 1991 01:39:45,520 --> 01:39:48,719 Speaker 5: they if you're two and zero, they've been tested twice. Yeah, 1992 01:39:48,760 --> 01:39:50,560 Speaker 5: and then the nine line is like three and a 1993 01:39:50,600 --> 01:39:53,280 Speaker 5: half or four and a half tonight. I think they're 1994 01:39:53,320 --> 01:39:55,919 Speaker 5: an interesting team to see how they improve going forward. 1995 01:39:57,000 --> 01:40:00,400 Speaker 5: But to me, like tomorrow night, like you said it 1996 01:40:00,720 --> 01:40:02,960 Speaker 5: selfishly for you because you're a fan of Dayton and 1997 01:40:03,040 --> 01:40:06,400 Speaker 5: you see you wish that game wasn't played selfishly for me, 1998 01:40:07,160 --> 01:40:10,840 Speaker 5: that's a good night at college basketball. Yes, like Wake Forest, 1999 01:40:10,880 --> 01:40:15,560 Speaker 5: Michigan can be good, Florida State, Florida can be good. Kentucky, Louisville, 2000 01:40:15,600 --> 01:40:19,200 Speaker 5: Texas Tech and Illinois play tomorrow night. Gonzog and Creighton 2001 01:40:19,280 --> 01:40:24,240 Speaker 5: is a top twenty five matchup. And you see, eventually 2002 01:40:24,280 --> 01:40:27,320 Speaker 5: we have to start talking about U see differently, eventually 2003 01:40:27,360 --> 01:40:29,000 Speaker 5: we have to start talking about them in the sense 2004 01:40:29,040 --> 01:40:32,479 Speaker 5: of okay, it feels like they're turning a corner under 2005 01:40:32,479 --> 01:40:34,880 Speaker 5: west Miller. I think you alluded to something earlier that 2006 01:40:34,960 --> 01:40:39,000 Speaker 5: I was watching over the weekend. Arrington Page can his 2007 01:40:39,080 --> 01:40:42,400 Speaker 5: debut at Northwestern like twenty five and twelve or something 2008 01:40:42,439 --> 01:40:46,200 Speaker 5: like that. Dylan Mitchell has been good for Saint John's. 2009 01:40:48,400 --> 01:40:51,559 Speaker 5: There are players that have left this program that are 2010 01:40:51,600 --> 01:40:55,880 Speaker 5: playing well early on elsewhere. Dan Skillings has said a 2011 01:40:55,920 --> 01:41:00,320 Speaker 5: good start to his Baylor tenure. My good players less 2012 01:41:00,520 --> 01:41:03,160 Speaker 5: that's the thing. Talented players I watched. I look back 2013 01:41:03,160 --> 01:41:06,640 Speaker 5: to the last year they were talented. I've been I 2014 01:41:06,720 --> 01:41:12,080 Speaker 5: went Friday. I think they have talented players like I. 2015 01:41:11,640 --> 01:41:14,519 Speaker 5: I think Chim is A is a talented big man. 2016 01:41:15,240 --> 01:41:17,400 Speaker 5: I think Bobob Miller is a really good player. I 2017 01:41:17,439 --> 01:41:20,920 Speaker 5: think Seana Bive like I just think they have really 2018 01:41:21,000 --> 01:41:24,120 Speaker 5: good pieces. But I left Friday wondering the same thing 2019 01:41:24,160 --> 01:41:26,040 Speaker 5: I wondered so much last year, as how do all 2020 01:41:26,040 --> 01:41:26,840 Speaker 5: these pieces fit? 2021 01:41:27,160 --> 01:41:29,559 Speaker 7: Yeah, Like, I get it's early on. 2022 01:41:30,680 --> 01:41:32,240 Speaker 5: I'm old I'm old school in the sense that I 2023 01:41:32,240 --> 01:41:33,599 Speaker 5: feel like at some point you got to get your 2024 01:41:33,600 --> 01:41:35,960 Speaker 5: lineup down to eight, seven or eight, or you got 2025 01:41:35,960 --> 01:41:38,479 Speaker 5: to go with it. I know it's harder in today's 2026 01:41:38,640 --> 01:41:40,760 Speaker 5: era because you want to make everyone happy and you're 2027 01:41:40,760 --> 01:41:44,519 Speaker 5: worried about guy. The most competitive teams, when the season 2028 01:41:44,640 --> 01:41:46,760 Speaker 5: gets to the thick of it, are going to play 2029 01:41:46,760 --> 01:41:49,120 Speaker 5: eight guys like they have to find a way to 2030 01:41:49,120 --> 01:41:49,599 Speaker 5: get to that. 2031 01:41:50,240 --> 01:41:51,760 Speaker 7: It makes uneasy conversations. 2032 01:41:51,800 --> 01:41:54,240 Speaker 5: I get that, But if you want to be a contender, 2033 01:41:54,960 --> 01:41:56,840 Speaker 5: you've got to be able to trim the roster. And 2034 01:41:58,240 --> 01:42:01,000 Speaker 5: I think one of the hardest things in coaching is 2035 01:42:01,040 --> 01:42:05,519 Speaker 5: adjusting on the fly. Like you start the game, someone 2036 01:42:05,560 --> 01:42:08,800 Speaker 5: doesn't have it or someone does have it, because you 2037 01:42:08,880 --> 01:42:11,360 Speaker 5: go into every game with a plan, right, And I 2038 01:42:11,720 --> 01:42:15,120 Speaker 5: genuinely think that Coach Miller goes into a game and says, hey, 2039 01:42:15,120 --> 01:42:18,600 Speaker 5: at this mark, we're subbing here. They're they're rotating so 2040 01:42:18,640 --> 01:42:20,840 Speaker 5: many guys and it doesn't feel at times like guys 2041 01:42:20,880 --> 01:42:24,360 Speaker 5: have a feel for the game. And that that, to me, 2042 01:42:24,439 --> 01:42:27,000 Speaker 5: I think, is if you're going to be a contender. 2043 01:42:29,280 --> 01:42:32,040 Speaker 5: You mentioned since here Harris was awesome early on night 2044 01:42:32,080 --> 01:42:34,840 Speaker 5: the other night, and then he came out for no 2045 01:42:34,920 --> 01:42:37,040 Speaker 5: other rhyme or reason other than that's his time to 2046 01:42:37,080 --> 01:42:40,760 Speaker 5: come out. Ride the hot hand. Somebody's making shots, if 2047 01:42:40,760 --> 01:42:44,000 Speaker 5: someone's struggling. I think that confidence for this team of 2048 01:42:44,080 --> 01:42:48,040 Speaker 5: Seannabie is going to be incredible. If I'm in an 2049 01:42:48,040 --> 01:42:51,040 Speaker 5: early on setting and I see that it's not going 2050 01:42:51,080 --> 01:42:53,000 Speaker 5: for him, is there something I can call to get 2051 01:42:53,040 --> 01:42:56,000 Speaker 5: him one, get him go to the basket, let him 2052 01:42:56,040 --> 01:42:59,000 Speaker 5: see one go in. Just the little stuff like that, 2053 01:42:59,680 --> 01:43:03,000 Speaker 5: and then I get it. They can't turn the ball over. 2054 01:43:03,760 --> 01:43:05,560 Speaker 5: They've been a bad shooting free throw team since I 2055 01:43:05,600 --> 01:43:08,880 Speaker 5: can remember. They've not shot the free throw well at all. 2056 01:43:09,040 --> 01:43:13,160 Speaker 5: They didn't shoot outside on Friday night particularly well. Again, 2057 01:43:13,600 --> 01:43:16,280 Speaker 5: I like the makeup of this team. They just got 2058 01:43:16,320 --> 01:43:17,080 Speaker 5: a lot of questions. 2059 01:43:17,160 --> 01:43:21,080 Speaker 4: So come back to three themes we've been talking about 2060 01:43:21,080 --> 01:43:24,920 Speaker 4: for a while. Depth is not overrated, But the idea 2061 01:43:25,000 --> 01:43:27,160 Speaker 4: that you're gonna play ten to eleven guys, I think 2062 01:43:27,320 --> 01:43:32,800 Speaker 4: is what I watch. Good college basketball teams play hard 2063 01:43:32,880 --> 01:43:36,880 Speaker 4: games in January and February for the most part, and 2064 01:43:36,920 --> 01:43:39,680 Speaker 4: there are exceptions, but for the most part, they're not 2065 01:43:39,720 --> 01:43:43,320 Speaker 4: playing eleven dudes, yep. They're playing eight in some cases 2066 01:43:43,400 --> 01:43:45,120 Speaker 4: seven and in some cases. 2067 01:43:45,120 --> 01:43:48,000 Speaker 7: Gets in foul trouble, get it, put. 2068 01:43:47,800 --> 01:43:54,439 Speaker 4: In a specialist, or there are exceptions. So I think 2069 01:43:54,479 --> 01:43:56,519 Speaker 4: what we've seen here over the last couple of years 2070 01:43:56,600 --> 01:43:58,879 Speaker 4: is a willingness to just play everybody. 2071 01:43:59,320 --> 01:43:59,599 Speaker 6: Yep. 2072 01:44:00,800 --> 01:44:04,400 Speaker 3: Early in the season. That's okay if you shrinking. 2073 01:44:17,800 --> 01:44:23,080 Speaker 8: Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty traffic in erl. 2074 01:44:22,920 --> 01:44:26,080 Speaker 9: Ainger on eastbound two seventy five, there's an accident on 2075 01:44:26,200 --> 01:44:29,400 Speaker 9: the right shoulder after seventy one seventy five. Police are 2076 01:44:29,400 --> 01:44:33,080 Speaker 9: there on scene. Also a crash westbound two seventy five 2077 01:44:33,200 --> 01:44:36,640 Speaker 9: after Lebanon Road, that one also on the right shoulder, 2078 01:44:36,800 --> 01:44:38,160 Speaker 9: and Anderson Berry Road. 2079 01:44:38,240 --> 01:44:41,200 Speaker 1: An accident at Juwelmar Drive. I met e Xelic with 2080 01:44:41,439 --> 01:44:44,080 Speaker 1: traffic looking for I solutions. 2081 01:44:45,000 --> 01:44:45,920 Speaker 7: Oh that's what happens. 2082 01:44:46,680 --> 01:44:49,679 Speaker 5: I bring up one college basketball second on a football 2083 01:44:49,680 --> 01:44:51,240 Speaker 5: shelf and we get pulled off the air. 2084 01:44:51,320 --> 01:44:53,000 Speaker 7: We get ripped off the air, all right? 2085 01:44:53,040 --> 01:44:55,800 Speaker 4: Really for a second, I was nervous, really quick. I 2086 01:44:55,840 --> 01:45:00,200 Speaker 4: wish we would play fewer guys. Yes, still try to 2087 01:45:00,200 --> 01:45:04,160 Speaker 4: figure out how the pieces are gonna fit, and the 2088 01:45:04,200 --> 01:45:10,120 Speaker 4: program needs a mood turning victory that you feel like 2089 01:45:10,280 --> 01:45:14,040 Speaker 4: is tangible proof of the program taking a hard pivot 2090 01:45:14,640 --> 01:45:16,679 Speaker 4: toward being an NCAA tournament mainstay. 2091 01:45:16,760 --> 01:45:19,160 Speaker 5: And I got an opportunity coming up next Friday. 2092 01:45:19,600 --> 01:45:22,400 Speaker 4: Against a really good Louisville team on what's going to 2093 01:45:22,439 --> 01:45:26,960 Speaker 4: be a neutral floor. Wes has not won a lot 2094 01:45:27,000 --> 01:45:29,800 Speaker 4: of those games, quite frankly. He's won some good Big 2095 01:45:29,840 --> 01:45:33,080 Speaker 4: twelve games, but I don't think he's won a game 2096 01:45:33,280 --> 01:45:37,599 Speaker 4: like that. And to me, like the program last year, 2097 01:45:37,640 --> 01:45:39,679 Speaker 4: there were a couple of times where before games Wes 2098 01:45:39,720 --> 01:45:42,160 Speaker 4: would say, no one thinks we have a chance to win. 2099 01:45:43,040 --> 01:45:47,160 Speaker 4: That has never been a part of my vocabulary as 2100 01:45:47,200 --> 01:45:50,360 Speaker 4: a Bearcat fan. With a handful of exceptions, mixed first 2101 01:45:50,400 --> 01:45:53,240 Speaker 4: year or two. That cannot continue. 2102 01:45:52,800 --> 01:45:53,320 Speaker 3: To be a thing. 2103 01:45:54,080 --> 01:45:57,280 Speaker 4: The way it ceases becoming a thing is winning games 2104 01:45:57,400 --> 01:45:59,679 Speaker 4: like that. I think the Dayton game will be a challenge. 2105 01:45:59,720 --> 01:46:03,160 Speaker 4: The Fly on Saturday against Maryland Baltimore County were not great. 2106 01:46:03,320 --> 01:46:05,960 Speaker 4: That Louisville game is going to be won. Yeah, and 2107 01:46:06,120 --> 01:46:07,960 Speaker 4: like at some point you gotta go get a game 2108 01:46:08,000 --> 01:46:08,519 Speaker 4: like that and. 2109 01:46:08,439 --> 01:46:10,960 Speaker 7: For that, like you know, Louisville inten tit wise is 2110 01:46:11,000 --> 01:46:11,479 Speaker 7: gonna bring it. 2111 01:46:11,640 --> 01:46:12,360 Speaker 3: Yeah. 2112 01:46:12,400 --> 01:46:14,960 Speaker 5: My whole life has been about intensity and toughness with 2113 01:46:15,080 --> 01:46:15,839 Speaker 5: UC basketball. 2114 01:46:15,880 --> 01:46:18,519 Speaker 7: It was lacking last year. They need to get it back. 2115 01:46:18,600 --> 01:46:19,439 Speaker 3: Yeah. And again like. 2116 01:46:20,880 --> 01:46:24,080 Speaker 4: Last year's team had good players, Yep, they didn't fit. 2117 01:46:25,280 --> 01:46:27,400 Speaker 4: I think this year's team has good players. It is 2118 01:46:27,760 --> 01:46:29,840 Speaker 4: fair to go. Look, it's gonna take more than two 2119 01:46:29,840 --> 01:46:32,559 Speaker 4: games for the pieces to fit, yep. But they better 2120 01:46:32,600 --> 01:46:34,720 Speaker 4: fit by next Friday. Frankly, they better fit by. 2121 01:46:34,680 --> 01:46:36,800 Speaker 5: Tomorrow, correct or else you're gonna get beating your home 2122 01:46:36,840 --> 01:46:40,720 Speaker 5: for who uh, who's your Who's your second best team? 2123 01:46:40,760 --> 01:46:43,559 Speaker 7: In college football? Are we? 2124 01:46:43,720 --> 01:46:45,880 Speaker 5: It's it's odd? Are we just not talking at all 2125 01:46:45,920 --> 01:46:48,879 Speaker 5: about Texas A and M. I was gonna say Alabama, 2126 01:46:49,120 --> 01:46:51,160 Speaker 5: I mean A and M went to Missouri top twenty 2127 01:46:51,200 --> 01:46:53,519 Speaker 5: five team took care of business. They're undefeated their third 2128 01:46:53,800 --> 01:46:55,679 Speaker 5: and I feel like they're the least talked about team 2129 01:46:55,680 --> 01:46:56,320 Speaker 5: in the top ten. 2130 01:46:56,760 --> 01:47:00,360 Speaker 4: I think ohiost eight is actually I think I think 2131 01:47:00,400 --> 01:47:02,080 Speaker 4: Ohio State is the least talked about team in the. 2132 01:47:02,080 --> 01:47:04,280 Speaker 7: Tam because they're alone at the top. 2133 01:47:04,120 --> 01:47:08,120 Speaker 4: Alone at the top, beating teams in solid fashion, but 2134 01:47:08,200 --> 01:47:12,360 Speaker 4: not overly spectacular. Julian saying, obviously is a fair bet 2135 01:47:12,400 --> 01:47:14,519 Speaker 4: to to win the Heisman for Nanda Mendoz is gonna 2136 01:47:14,520 --> 01:47:19,880 Speaker 4: have something to say about that as well.
