0:00:01.500 --> 0:00:04.340
<v Speaker 1>Today's biggest news from the Australian. I'm Claire Harvey with

0:00:04.360 --> 0:00:09.450
<v Speaker 1>the front's afternoon headlines. Brendan Nugent, the man accused of

0:00:09.510 --> 0:00:13.020
<v Speaker 1>deliberately running over independent MP Helen Haynes with his car,

0:00:13.340 --> 0:00:17.700
<v Speaker 1>has a rare neurological disorder. That's according to his lawyer,

0:00:17.800 --> 0:00:21.020
<v Speaker 1>who didn't apply for bail when Nugent appeared in Wangaratta

0:00:21.060 --> 0:00:25.349
<v Speaker 1>Magistrate's Court in country Victoria on Wednesday. Nugent, 43, is

0:00:25.390 --> 0:00:29.350
<v Speaker 1>accused of using his four-wheel drive to deliberately attack Haynes,

0:00:29.790 --> 0:00:33.129
<v Speaker 1>the independent MP for Indi, on Monday afternoon as she

0:00:33.229 --> 0:00:37.310
<v Speaker 1>returned to her electorate office. Bystanders had to free Haynes,

0:00:37.390 --> 0:00:40.710
<v Speaker 1>who was pinned by the vehicle. On Wednesday, defence lawyer

0:00:40.790 --> 0:00:44.870
<v Speaker 1>Shirag Patel told Magistrate Alison Vaughan his client was suffering

0:00:44.909 --> 0:00:50.260
<v Speaker 1>from a concussion and idiopathic transverse myelitis. That's a rare

0:00:50.380 --> 0:00:54.380
<v Speaker 1>neurological disorder that causes sudden inflammation across the spinal cord,

0:00:54.720 --> 0:00:58.490
<v Speaker 1>with no underlying cause. Patel said it was Nugent's first

0:00:58.530 --> 0:01:02.750
<v Speaker 1>time in custody. Prince Harry wants to reconcile with the

0:01:02.790 --> 0:01:05.650
<v Speaker 1>royals but says some people don't want that to happen.

0:01:06.110 --> 0:01:09.500
<v Speaker 1>Speaking on a GQ podcast, the Duke of Sussex said

0:01:09.540 --> 0:01:13.420
<v Speaker 1>people often told him about their own family dramas and

0:01:13.459 --> 0:01:15.560
<v Speaker 1>he felt they were looking to the royals to show

0:01:15.700 --> 0:01:19.020
<v Speaker 1>how these problems can be worked out. Don't forget, Harry

0:01:19.080 --> 0:01:21.600
<v Speaker 1>created some of the problems when he and wife Meghan

0:01:21.740 --> 0:01:24.830
<v Speaker 1>gave an interview to Oprah Winfrey claiming racism in the

0:01:24.890 --> 0:01:28.770
<v Speaker 1>royal family. And Harry published a book detailing his physical

0:01:29.090 --> 0:01:33.390
<v Speaker 1>and other fights with Prince William. We've got some great

0:01:33.490 --> 0:01:35.970
<v Speaker 1>analysis of that and all the rest of the world's

0:01:36.069 --> 0:01:41.399
<v Speaker 1>most engaging news right now at theaustralian.com.au. Plus, come back

<v Speaker 1>look at the frequent flyer hacks supercharging the tax officers'

0:01:47.020 --> 0:01:50.680
<v Speaker 1>war on credit cards. That's right here Thursday morning.
