0:00:12.940 --> 0:00:16.180
<v Speaker 1>Hello and welcome to The Update, I'm Mike Humphrey. The

0:00:16.200 --> 0:00:20.280
<v Speaker 1>Coalition's not happy over Labor's new migration policy. The government

0:00:20.340 --> 0:00:23.710
<v Speaker 1>cracking down on student and backpacker visas while reducing net

0:00:23.730 --> 0:00:29.030
<v Speaker 1>overseas migration to 225,000 a year. Opposition leader Angus Taylor

0:00:29.070 --> 0:00:31.510
<v Speaker 1>wants the target lower, keeping it in line with what

0:00:31.570 --> 0:00:34.750
<v Speaker 1>he believes to be the country's housing needs. Meanwhile, the

<v Speaker 1>PM flies to California today ahead of meetings with tech

0:00:37.870 --> 0:00:42.340
<v Speaker 1>leaders at Apple's HQ. Anthony Albanese talking AI as Labor

0:00:42.360 --> 0:00:46.120
<v Speaker 1>looks to put guardrails around its development in Oz. Experts

0:00:46.180 --> 0:00:48.240
<v Speaker 1>are warning of more pain at the petrol bowser as

0:00:48.280 --> 0:00:51.229
<v Speaker 1>global oil markets continue to spin out over wars in

0:00:51.240 --> 0:00:55.320
<v Speaker 1>the Mideast. The national average for unleaded now above $ 2. 30

0:00:54.480 --> 0:00:57.470
<v Speaker 1>a litre, with calls for the government to reintroduce the

0:00:57.510 --> 0:01:01.090
<v Speaker 1>fuel excise cut growing louder. While our love for utes

0:01:01.130 --> 0:01:04.729
<v Speaker 1>and four-wheel drives has helped cut driver fatalities, it's being

0:01:04.770 --> 0:01:08.590
<v Speaker 1>blamed for more deaths among pedestrians. Researchers finding the taller

0:01:08.630 --> 0:01:12.569
<v Speaker 1>the grill, the lower a pedestrian's chances of survival. Qantas

0:01:12.590 --> 0:01:14.890
<v Speaker 1>ground workers are planning a strike next week as part

0:01:14.910 --> 0:01:18.470
<v Speaker 1>of their fight for better wages and job security. Around

<v Speaker 1>600 poised to walk off the job. Overseas, Russians are

0:01:21.560 --> 0:01:24.060
<v Speaker 1>heading to the polls for parliamentary elections over the next

0:01:24.100 --> 0:01:26.679
<v Speaker 1>few days. Critics say the vote won't be a fair

0:01:26.800 --> 0:01:29.459
<v Speaker 1>one and that President Vladimir Putin will use the result

0:01:29.500 --> 0:01:33.420
<v Speaker 1>to reintroduce conscription. And King Charles is joining the chorus

0:01:33.459 --> 0:01:37.080
<v Speaker 1>of those worried over artificial intelligence. He's calling on tech

0:01:37.100 --> 0:01:40.340
<v Speaker 1>leaders and governments to control it before it's too late.

<v Speaker 1>the country. The Queenslander without an international century in three years,

0:01:51.850 --> 0:01:54.150
<v Speaker 1>responding to calls for him to be dropped ahead of

<v Speaker 1>the Dockers with an unchanged line-up for the SCG clash. Meanwhile,

0:02:09.000 --> 0:02:12.340
<v Speaker 1>Essendon is reportedly in talks with former bomber Mark Johnson

0:02:12.380 --> 0:02:15.320
